Jimmy doesn't get enough recognition for being one of the greatest and original bassists on the planet! His infectious grooves and tasty solos are undeniable and the Yellowjackets will never be the same without him. It's very hard for me to listen the the Yellowjackets without Jimmy.
Keith Copeland- Always loved his playing. Those first two or three YJ albums were the best (no offense to Will Kennedy or whomever)...
@@jukesjointOG I agree! Their debut record is one of the best debuts I've ever heard! The late great Ricky Lawson was a monster drummer and Robben Ford killed on guitar! And no, I'm not the great jazz drummer! No relation...that I know of anyway.
Keith Copeland- I was going to have you sign my book! But he passed away as well, I see. :(
really true
Jimmy doesn't remember this but I saw him with Yellowjackets in 1990 in Tokyo Blue Note. I was friends with the hostess that got me free tickets. After their show, Jimmy and William K. came and sat at my table and talked to me and another guy for at least 2 hours! Such gracious, humble, and down-to-earth guys! It was a night I'll never forget.
I just checked the GM 100 greatest Bass Players of all time... can you imagine how dissapointed I was Jimmy Haslip was not in there..... wow, just wow how dare they ha ha, Jimmy is a legend to me 💚
Cause he's off the charts!
@@johnhguitar I see what you did there 👌🏻
He is on the real list . A league on his own
@@ArturoVillarrealJAZZ indeed gentlmen indeed he is ha ha cheers
I can’t believe it
Jimmy is a Legend 🔥🔥🔥
Always enjoyed Haslip's playing. Especially his work on Brother to Brother
Yes
I loved him on different bands, Alan Holdsworths and Mike Stern’s Band. Great bass player.
Spoke with Jimmy at Ronnie Scotts back in 2012 when he was playing with Jeff Lorber Fusion. Not only a great bass player but a really nice guy!
Yea man
Cool. Music is my savior.
It has always been my rock through the worst of times. Everyday is a good day if I’m playing my Bass.
Music Has shaped my entire life.
What an awesome human being and a super musician 💯💥💯💥🎺🎸. Keep up the great work.
He looks great for 69 years old!
I am such a fan of yours with the Yellowjackets!! Your solos were outstanding! I saw you live in Miami, London, NYC!!
Just listen to his fantastic bass solo in Gino Vannelli's "Brother to brother"
What he does on that track is ungodly.
That was Jimmy Haslip? I didn't know that. It's one of my desert island tunes - and loved Yellowjackets way back when too.
Timeless and classic album.
@@RtripleA Talk about wayyyyy ahead of its time!
Jaco touched so many players. The mid 1970’s saw Jaco was at the top of the heap.
Just listen the Michael Francks album "Barefoot on the beach" Jimmy plays at perfection on this album.
"It'll never end." ... Great, ... opening door after door after door after door of creativity.
Hey Teddy, great to see you doing classes with a legendary bass virtuoso Mr.Haslip!
Great, great bass player! I miss in Yellowjackets...
Yeah I miss Jimmy in the yellowjackets, too. But that Dane Alderton is a beast on his own. They’ll be ok.😌🎶👍🏾
One of my two favorites
this dudes 70?
gimme whatever hes takin!
Jimmy is the man lovely bass player saw him live at st Kitts music festival with yellowjacket
JIMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Джако в моём сердце навсегда, хоть я с ним и не знаком очно, но он для меня как брат, учитель и вдохновитель.
One of thee baddest Bassist period!!
Awesome history !
Go JIMMY!!!!
This explains a lot, on so many levels and I'll just leave it at that.
Jimmy Haslip - TOMMY BOLIN BAND
Mark Egan started on trumpet too .. foundation of their melodic style?
Uuaaauu jaco and Allan two of the most innovative musicians In the last 50 years
Always wonder what Tommy Bolin and Jaco might have done had they played together. Jimmy apparently played with both.
Often wondered exactly the same. Right On !!!
Jimmy actually played with Tommy Bolin for a while.
I’ve never played a 6 string bass. The difference from nut to body on the fretboard is crazy. Seems like the strings would be really close together on the first few frets compared to a four string
Red Heat is in my Top 10 records 🌞👍
Some of the best bass solos with Allan Holdsworth!
You are an inspiration Jim! Thanks for sharing your journey so far!
He looks remarkable for his age
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Yo! a Lefty!!!
No instruments where harmed during this vid
:34. And the rest is history.
Endless true .college 2.
Isn't he talking about Pat Matheny?
Oz with the jokes 😂
so much spit jimmy has
Haslip's lefty has strings are in reversed gauge/pitch order..........I imagine he first played a right handed bass as a lefty without the ability to change the strings to a left handed in seating them properly for the corrected gauge/order of pitch and as a result just kept it that way throughout his career?..........
Its interesting some lefties keep the strings reversed even when they get left handed basses
I'm a lefty and I play guitar left handed, but I prefer bass strung in reverse. Gives a different dimension to the instrument.
Because they learned on an upside down righty and when they get a lefty instrument (for ergonomic reasons) they play the way they learned
CAPO
Do you still study ? Wow ! I can't EVER remember walking up to your hotel room and you're not in your room shedding.
V
And? Where’s the rest of the video?
Talking and talking . It's not a poetry evening is it
It's a tech course you dummy
It’s nice to hear there was a human side to Jaco.
lmnop otay- Unfortunately that is the opposite of my experience
@@jukesjointOG what happened In your experience with him?
@@wippi7071 ua-cam.com/video/HU7OfR6jn5w/v-deo.html
@@jukesjointOGplease elaborate
@@PatriotSteve See link above.
Haaaam,ham and haam,ham
Ironic he studied with Jaco and years later jaco’s son replaced him
That’s not the meaning of the word ironic.......look it up
@@101xaplax101 🥸
Its not ironic, thats normal in music industry. Life goes on, jimmy still play around the world with or without YJ
Coincidental at best. Hardly ironic. That isn't what the word means. Felix was with the band for about 5 minutes, so kind of a moot point anyway.

*smacks teeth*
Yo, I thought it was just me! That SMACKING between the VERY DEEP nose inhalation and the monotonous speech! I hadda go meditate to get over it! As I said elsewhere, NOTHING AT ALL against Jimmy himself, who's brought countless hours of musical bliss. Just my sensitivities peaking in the moment I'm sure.
@@TarentzMaurisse I guess his name ain’t Haslip for nothin’!
For those who decide to learn how to play an instrument that requires the use of both hands: there are no pianos for left-handed people therefore there is no need for building guitars for the left-handed nor "flipping" regular guitars to the "left" side because you still are going to have to use BOTH hands to play it.
funny, what the 2 musicians look like, as a back ground: simply bored by his speech, and hoping to the earliest moment to get back on their stuff!
Funny what 'I' look like: Simply bored by this droning on...That said, I'm sure it's just the moment. It's abundantly obvious Jimmy's among the greatest of bassists!
I still say that left handed guitars or basses are ridiculous!
Neither hand is more important than the other for guitars.
I’ve heard some idiotic
and uniformed so called left handed players say that the picking/ strumming hand is more important, but that’s BS.
My point was just made by the guitar player talking about the Trumpet. Although the trumpet does use 1 hand for fingering only. It’s questionable though. Is the trumpet better for a lefty, because the left hand holds the trumpet up or the right hand for fingering.
Ever heard of a left handed piano, trumpet, flute, sax, bone, clarinet, etc...
You seriously end up, making playing the guitar harder for yourself. Most books are written 1 way. There’s a bigger choice of instruments and parts.
