- It's time for our traditional year-in-review video, where we take a quick look at everything that happened during 2023. A full year of full-time cruising/sailing in 24 minutes.
What a year! So cool to see it all told chronologically - really helps put the projects into perspective across a longer narrative. Here's to a great 2024!
Mads and Ava, another epic year for you both and for all of us that follow your adventures from afar. Looking forward to an awesome 2024 👍
Another Mads capped year of, oh glorious, DIY fun!
Thank you Mads and Ava for a year of wonderful videos. Best wishes for a fantastic year ahead full of fun, Oh Glorious Sanding and great cruising.
I have enjoyed all your videos over the years. Stay safe, and have a wonderful time sailing. Have a wonderful 2024
Man your videos are inspirational and are a testament to your intelligence. I hope to live this kind of life one day. Cheers guys
What a life! Congratulations! Looking forward to 2024!
Living the Dream!
Really looking forward to 2024! 😎🥰
Mads! What you have achieved is unbelievably great. I've been with you since the episode where you built the Lagun table into Obelix and haven't missed an episode since, but I've probably watched some episodes 5 or 20 times. Some even more, like my all time favorite about that GrooveA Antenna :D What gets me - watching the awesome year in review and the prospect of the Northwest Passage (yikes!) - is that I know you are a gifted craftsman and a, well, not so flawless saltbucket yet.
Many people used to believe that you would never sail beyond the Danish borders, and I am delighted that you have shown everyone. I myself sail a Bandholm in Denmark with mediocre sailing experience and always thought that with such a successful canal behind, it must be a burden to "have to" go on such a long journey.
Perhaps it would be interesting for your videos in 2024, if you sometimes swapped the Mads-perfect-craftsman-style for the Mads-not-so-experienced-sailor-style and let us share more of the feelings and thoughts of that second Mads. I would love to.
I hope that's not too presumptuous. I'm writing this with the utmost respect of a fanboy who proudly displays his SailLife sticker on his car. Love from Hamburg!
I would keep Athena and start sailing for a while and see the world. the epoxy and sanding can wait!
Talk about a lot of sticky pads and a giant amount of work but all in the good name of oh glorious sanding very nice episode
Better than any year in the office
Hi , have a great new year and a very interesting 2023 . Thanks to all who took part .❤👍👍
Happy New Years Sail Life!
Happy 2024 and smooth sailing !
Happy New Year Mads and Ava, can’t wait for your 2024 adventures 🙏🏻
I am rather envios of your travels. Keep on with your keeping on.
Wow, what an incredible year of cruising full-time! It's amazing to see your journey unfold chronologically in this video. You've tackled projects, sailed to new places, and embarked on thrilling adventures like the Northwest Passage. It's inspiring to witness your growth as a craftsman and sailor, Mads. Keep pushing boundaries and sharing your experiences with us. Here's to an even more fantastic 2024 filled with fun, sanding, and unforgettable cruising!
Well done you guys, much love from Canada.
It’s been a great year, thanks letting me live vicariously through your videos.
Here’s looking forward to 2024 !!!!
Can't wait for 24. All the best!!!
Congratulations on avoiding being murdered in your cockpit, Mads! That’s great.
Great!
Looking forward to what 2024 brings!
Right. This channel is not that much about sailing. However, still following you guys (and subscribed) as you are fun to watch. Tip for Mads: Mostly problems can be fixed in a cheap and easy way. Example. You construct an enormous tarp over the hatch you would like to have open while leaving the boat. This can be solved with a sugar cube and 2 ropes. I think it explains itself. If not......ask.
Happy new year and a safe sailing in 2024 ❤
It was great to meet you guys this year. Get in touch next time you’re in Charleston!!
Biogambling! 😂
I love it!😂😂😂😂
Be advised, on your Northwest passage voyage that power consumption becomes an issue for everyone. I HIGHLY recommend accounting for that, as diesel is getting harder to come by across the northern coast. Solar isn’t very effective up there, but it still does work if you can angle the panels sharply.
Great year
I would have to say, repairing the holes at the nav station is the absolute highlight of the year, it’s finally all so nice and smooth! Great content and Happy New Year from Bay City, Saginaw, Midland & Flint MI
Mads ,you and Ava are without a doubt my favorite utube channel. You two are always so genuine and a delight to watch. I really respect the fact you never pressure or guilt your viewers about becoming patrons and I really think the trend anymore is about making money . Mads an Ava you both are amazing people and I wish you all the good fortune and blessing in your lives togeather.
Happy New Year Mads And Ava, I really enjoy your channel , you 2 are so Talented. Cheers from oh glorious East Lansing Michigan!
Great year and looking forward to 2024
NW Passage... that's a great way to get back at Ava for making a pasty Dane spend so much time in the tropics... awesome recap, a great gratitude fest for you🤘
Thanks especially for the three cautionary tales; "The autopilot", "The Genset" and the "Catamaran keel".
And with regards to the N-W passage, as a mere we-get-snow-sometimes-dane, you perhaps aren't as well versed as the rest of us scandinavians with how the weather gets up north. I lost my autopilot (due to rain, incredibly), in july, on a cold, but yet on a *SUMMER* day in the baltics.
And got so hypothermic I had to lie about my body temperature for my family to not scare them. So just so you know, it gets bad. Don't do it. 🙂
Happy 2024 🎉🎉🎉🎉!
Thanks for including footage of you signing our favorite sheet of sandpaper in Annapolis! So nice to meet you guys briefly!
Great recap on a great year!
So an expedition style boat, aluminum or steel. Great move for peice of mind up there!
Great video!
Great review
Great video
Thank you Mads! You are a most glorious sailor! 😎👍
Happy New Year and safe passage
I think another rebuild project can wait. You guys could do well with some more travel/sailing content!
Thank you guys for a great years entertainment. I'm looking forward to your content for this and many more years...
What a year! You guys are really amazing. Bring in 2024 adventures
Happy new year, that was a splendid video summarizing all activities in 2023. I wish you a very good coming year thank you.
Happy New Year.
See you👍🏼🥰
I hope you make it to my home town along your way to Labrador. ❤
Mads, great video - there are probably many people who would like to meet you in the "environment", you are a perfectionist in your work, they would probably like to learn from you. I simply do not understand why you do not yet have 1 million. subs, it's one of the best channels to watch, everything you do is super exciting to watch. All the best for both of you in 2024 from another sailor in Denmark.
What an exciting plan for next year! Hopfully we see you out on the water when you head past Vancouver Island!
Quick note- when filling your dive tanks you should submerge them in the water while filling…
Happy New Year
Great year summary! There is a Sundeer 64 for sale in Carriacou not sure if you would be interested.
I’d love to see you both stop in and visit MJ Sailing and maybe lend them a hand.
👍🏽
Smooth seas and beam winds!
That was a oohh glorious 2023 Mads and Ava...what a experiences and activities!!🎉 I wish you all the best and hope your wishes for 2024 come true..although still a little nucky on the idea the beloved Athena maybe be replaced by a much bigger (project)boat..😢😊 Bravely forward and sail on today's wind..or at least try😅
Always fantastic, thanks. SV BROOKLYN PNW
North-West passage... So amazing. I fully vote for that scenario 😊 Not that I'm agaist a new refit but.... 😅
You gave Athena a new life - that’s solid karma.
Rock kicking is the new glorious sanding
Northwest passage?! *giddy giggling*
The best thing you did all year was filling The two small holes in The navigation desk😅😅
"Panama Canal? quick left turn, No thanks. North West Passage lets see if we can beat the ice" yep Maz is a Dane.
@9:19 " . . . rather than sitting around twiddling my thumbs . . ." I don't see that for Mads anytime soon ( LOL )
Cool that in the UA-cam sailing community you get to actually meet up with a few .
Godt nytår, Mads og Ava!
👍👌♥️🇨🇦
Just a small point of clarification: the Northwest Passage goes through Canada, not above.
As a Canadian, please come in our northwest passage.
North West Passage? Would be cool if you hooked up with Sailing Alluring Arctic somewhere in the middel of a crack in the ice north of Victoria Island ...
Happy new year! With the time delay and Ava gone, I missed seeing the Christmas decorations. Did you do any?
Best of wishes for the 2024 plans. I am looking forward to se the North West Passage, which will be new here on Yuotube.
⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵
Best of luck in your search for the most ideal cat... ;)
- Yes I know you said it wont be a cat..
I wish I also had self tailoring winches. My boat would appreciate a new gennaker. How did you teach your winches?
Stain-less steal -not stain-FREE. Big difference.
;)
NWP that would be cool, on a glass boat?
Do you need some permits sailing the North Pole area/South Pole? I remember that some years ago a Norwegian TV series had issues with it, there was a court session involved. (in that case polish your danish/Norwegian skills😁)
Hva er deres yrkesbakgrunn? Mye godt arbeid å se!
I must have missed the sun cover episode. What material did you use to construct your sun cover/shade? Thanks!
Fischer Panda = Fisher Price
Mads, i usually hate the one year summary on typical UA-cam channels, but yours truly stand out. Keep up the DIY backbone of the channel.
Takk for flotte videoer, er der noen planer om Scandinavian tour? I'll be ready to show you Ryfylke, the pearl of Norway
Al- go-rythm.
If you take the Northwest Passage do you think you would continue west to Asia or head south along the West Coast of North America?
Mads I cannot believe you are even thinking of taking on a 50 footer, when there are only 1.5 of you onboard. Is the driving force behind this that you have crammed so much technology and equipment into Athena there is insufficient habitable and storage space remaining.😉👍⛵️
Happy engine does not seem to require much of your time.
What would the “perfect candidate” entail ?
We're looking for something in the 50-60ft range. It has to be in really bad shape (needing LOTS of work). No core below the waterline. Ideally with integrated ballast (not external). It's a cruising boat so a not too deep draft would be nice - nothing above 8ft for sure.
That sounds like it would be a nice large video series👍🏻😊
I can’t believe you’re considering selling Athena!?! You’ve tricked it out so beautifully and completely, I can’t believe you would sell her. But you are a project guy, I’m not.
Your mother looks so tiny! How did she ever give birth to Mighty Mads! She looks great! Did you ever decide your course of action if, while taking a shower, you saw that you had hooked another MahiMahi! If you decide to fight it through the shower porthole, make sure you film it! That would increase your subscribers another 10K!
When you combine a year's worth of DIY into such a compressed time frame, it really shows how good you are at it and why you want to do it all again! I have seen a number of items that went unfinished before you set out cruising! But we know you know they are there and why anyone would want to bring it to your attention knowing full well that it will get done when you have the time and circumstance! By the way, you DID wet sand and buff out that paint job on the Nav Station fix, didn't you! 😉
Just as it's customary to round Cape Horn from west to east to take advantage of more favorable winds, it might be easier to run the NW Passage from west to east also for the same reason. If the predominant Polar Westerlies are, in fact predominant, tacking up wind through narrow passages between the ice would be a game-breaker for the voyage.
We hope you enjoy your trek north.
There are thousands of viewers on the East Coast of the Us and it’s a great cruising ground. It would be a big mistake to rush up to the NW passage. Who cares.
Mads what ever happened to your dog?
24 minute video for 1st video of 2024
Im a little disappointed you have 'No Idea' what that switch turnos on/off on your 24 volt panel. I'd like to see that resolved in 2024.
Higuys. Must comment on the aim of getting a 50 to 60 foot Project Boat ? Once you hit 50 feet in length Annual Costs escalate Dramatically, which begs the question - Guys Have you won the Lottery ? 😅😅😅 Have a great 2024 guys. Bob. 🤔🌟🌟🌟👍❤
3G?? Why are you using that dinosaur for? 5G I is better. But whom I to say
Don't forget to go to my beautiful Puerto Rico 😉😉😉😉😊😊😊
Happy New Year
