fun fact :" 'The serie Death in Paradise's main seaside setting, St Honoré, is actually the picturesque fishing village of Deshaies in the north eastern corner of Guadeloupe. Honoré Police station, where much of the action takes place, is filmed at Church of St Peter and St Paul in Deshaies."
I was thinking about that exactly! Thanks for confirming.
Pronounced dé-AI phonetically dé-HEY (but silent h)
Ava has been good for you Mads. I can see you relaxing quite a bit. Great video!
So funny to see Mads obviously NOT in his element in nature!
My father sung "on the road again" every single road trip ..great memories
"Sailing away. Set an open course for the Virgin sea" that's my go-to.
Two things: Mads, your wife is a smoke show. You kids are nailing the tourism thirst trap. Two, if you guys make it to Puerto Rico around July, I’d love to give you some island secrets. Such a fan ! Great show!
Ava girl you have grown on me! Didnt think it was possible but you did it! Love both your antics and banter. Very good travel and history narrating. Never miss an episode. 🥇
At 19:42 is the perfect picture of you two. In my mind this is one of your best videos of sailing and adventuring. Thank you for sharing with all of us.
Don’t know why but I enjoyed this episode more than most. Maybe it’s because we saw more interaction between Madds and Ava.
Ava is star of the video, as always .
We have a TV series in the UK that is filmed in and around Deshaies (Death in Paradise) you were walking towards the building that is used as the police station and is featured in almost every episode 15:27
Guys, you have a fantastic evolving channel. Mas built it doing the refit extraordinaire. Ava has added to it doing great Adventures and historical walks. The direction you are heading is great. Keep up the great work. I am sure white beaches and clear waters will be there, the adventures getting there are just too much fun.
Thank you guys for another great video
You guys are so cute playing in the waterfalls!
Loved the hot and cold water falls that streamed together
On a sailboat close is a boatlength. Really close is a boatwidth. Really, really close is a dinghy-width. Coming from the sailing scene around Chicago perhaps we have been calibrated differently as to what close is ;)
Speaking of Chicago, that rolly anchorage reminds me of a rolly night in Chicago's Monroe Harbor when the wind was out of the SE and the fetch runs all the way to Gary Indiana. It hardly ever blows from that direction so they never built a seawall to protect the harbor from that direction. Except that it sometimes does -especially in the fall. We've got a little video on our channel of my wife eating breakfast in the cockpit before going to shore to her work with a little rocky action going on in the background. 2-3' waves in the mooring field are not uncommon during these blows.
Love these vids. Puts a smile on my face each and every week. Ava you are one cool chick. Mads you’re a lucky man.
another great video. love the barter, the wife does 'the Tarzan swing' . that was epic !
Love the clips from your passage. Really fun to watch some everyday footage
Reminds me of a saying going around while I was cruising the Carib: 'another bloody day in paradise'.
It was a while ago though 😂
My family have owned a home on the island for 50 years.
Pronounced Ann Tee gua.
It was named by Columbus for the Spanish, but later captured by English and they altered the name as the Spanish was the enemy.
Barbuda was the slave breeding island because there was not enough rain to grow crops so they grew other things needed. Labor.
"THE HUSBAND ON DUTY" careful bub, she knows where you live. thanks guys, always a pleasure!
HAHA. the time on the oven is set! Thanks Mads! and its made out of Unabtaium. HAHAHAH. Love the episode!!!
Your in the Caribbean islands. Remember, this time of year is the sailing tourist season and it crowded with people like you looking for a that remote spot ! And l think you will find the same all round the world. With sailor’s videoing each other .
Don’t forget that you are one of those tourists you disdain!
Hi guys, if you think those waterfalls are beautiful, if you ever go to Zambia, go to the Victoria falls I absolutely love them. Next time I go to Zambia. I will be spending at least a day just sitting and watching the falls and the monkeys the baboons and even the wild elephants from Australia
Always singing "we are sailing" by Rod Steward while sailing and "the dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding, because I'm sailing in San Francisco Bay
Lived on my boat in English Harbour in late 70’s , Married on a boat in Falmouth Harbour in 85. Back then no marina, just about a dozen anchored boats. Enjoy it,some interesting old ruins .
Good morning from a cooler Auckland - New Zealand. I have spent nights like that and its interesting when you speak to land lubbers about it their comment is usually the rolling would send you to sleep. Haha no not quite. Mads, you haven't mentioned your genset lately do you have an update on that? Cheers and keep enjoying life. Ian
Hey ! Since you're not far, i've heard that, if you like local cuisine and barbecue, Haïti is the place to be right now !
🤣
When my all-time favorite Islands the whale migration is to die for
WE all know who had the best wrap!
Finally you set the oven clock! ❤ 😂
On the road again definitely
Suggestion!: could you please make a line of Bucket Hats with your logo?!? I would get every color available. Love you guys and love the content. Seeing you two have a romantic smooch post waterfall shenanigans was heart warming.
That police station/museum you showed is the police station of Honoré @ St Marie (fictional town and island) as shown in the British TV show "Death in Paradise".
Hi M&A,
You have the best sailing channel ever, have seen all your videos. Just a little tip for yours dingy winch. If possible try to mount the winch with as much distans to the block as possible. that will make the line to furl easier on the winch.
Mads and Ava, have been thoroughly enjoying your videos. Thanks so much for sharing. I am worried though that at some stage those over length bolts securing the Iridium Go external antennae to the leading edge of the solar panels will deliver a nasty injury. Every time I see them in the background I cringe at the thought of the damage they could do. I would be feel terrible if there was an injury and I hadn't raised the perceived issue. The video representation of the hazard may well exaggerate the risk and I'm concerned about nothing, which would be great. :)
On my dad's boat (Pearson 39-2) he rigged a hammock in the salon for rolly resting. It was a guatamalan style woven hammock, when stowed, it fit in a quite small stuff bag (less than the size of a milk carton. It could be rigged along the centerline of the boat or diaganallly or even across the beam. (His boat had strong hand holds on the ceiling that were connected through to the handholds on the cabin top. I often slept in the hammock when on passage or rolly anchorages.
I'll go you one better, Ava: When I'm listening to an audiobook and they announce the first chapter by saying just the word "One", I bust out with 'singular sensation'. But, yes, On the Road Again gets sung to my dog whenever we get on the road.
you are and awesome looking couple!!!
Ava's wrap for the win!
What a terrific pair you make, thanks
Wait until you get to the Bahamas... lots of small islands you can anchor near and enjoy an island all to yourself.
A lovely video, good to see you both having a great time. Just using all that carefully installed technology, making life easier, is getting the rewards of years of hard work. Perhaps you need some stabilisers, although that was extreme in the first anchorage.
Thats cute, You as a tourist, were taken aback by the amount of tourists at a tourists venue.
Must be an American thing
Mads, it's a "Michigan thing", those songs😂😂
Maybe a Midwest thing! Whenever I put up sails I have to sing Christopher Cross, sailing 😂
Great vid - Thank you. Greetings from Spring Green, Wisconsin USA
1. That was the best waterfall tour I’ve seen and well worth the $$
2. Ava makes a better sandwich, it’s just a scientific fact
3. What are those plate-bowls? We are currently using a similar style from Fiesta Ware, but I’m not convinced it will last on a boat. Where did you get them? They look perfect.
Beautiful job on your navigation station.
Wait until you get to the South Pacific islands. They will have all the raw beauty and remoteness you could ever want.
Thanks guys as always Spiffy sailing
See you👍🏼🥰
Stunning scenery. You Tarzan, me Eva 🤣 interesting video 2x👍
then prepare yourself, when you're coming to Norway😄 there's. Prekestolen, Tolltunga, hele Romsdalen,,...Mats should have heard about these places😀
Its funny because some of the best beaches are behind you in Martinique and the further north you go from Dominica, the more touristy it gets until you reach the pinnacle of tourism in the BVIs. The one exception is the beaches of Barbuda but even those are changing rapidly as they sold the prime real estate to developers to put up mansions on an otherwise poor island. Go west to Colombia, Panama, Honduras, and Guatemala, its far more interesting IMHO.
"On the road again." Yeah BUT it"s Canned Heat! 😀😻
I do the "On the Road Again" thing, but not "Sailing, Take Me Away". I have SOME limits.
I lived in Dominica for a year and a half (in Picard at the south end of Prince Rupert Bay) and just before sunrise it would be in the high 70's. Did not acclimate, miserable the entire time.
I still sing 'Rolling Home' when headed to port for crew change but otherwise it's 'Spanish Ladies' when getting underway.
I'd say having a partner that has a positive/fun outlook is is at least 70% of the success equation,
Great video you two are so compatible
Hi , nice video and glad to see your both having fun ,fair winds and enjoy ,ALL the BEST😉👍👍😍
Great to see you enjoying all that sanding. HAHAHA As back to boat life seeing sights and relaxing. Remember keep the stick up and you in side.
On your way through, I would highly recommend stopping at one of Puerto Rico's 3 bioluminescent bays. Bahia Fosforente near La Parguera is the only one you can swim in, and it's amazing. There's a new moon coming, so it will be perfect.
Mustard and mayo for sure. 😎❤️😎❤️😎
Mads, don't tell Eva but if you heat your tortilla (blow torch/heat gun/dry frying pan) you will win hands down every time.
Rockin rollin... Been there. But €22 mooring per night? Not since the Med. Was in a similar situation here on Sal Island and moved to a mooring which cost €5 a night. Which I negotiated by offering dinner and drinks to the mooring owner
I have heard some good music from Delgres, a combo Guadeloupe, Mississippi Blues, Nawlins (New Orleans) music band. Consists of a Guitar player/singer, drummer and Sousaphone. It works.
If you are looking from crystal clear water with no people, Barbuda is going to be great, however don't expect much when you go ashore. For the nicest beaches in the Caribbean IMO, St Barts has to be up there, but will not be 'empty'
Jajajajaajaja
Saaaaaaiiiiiliiiiinggg!!!!!
You are a amazing Couple!!!!
Great video. Your a lucky mad Mads.
Mayo and Mustard.....Heathen !
Mads made a European wrap - Ava showed the American super sizer.
Does that "S" on the blue shirt at the end of the video stand for "Sanderman", Mads? :)
Haha, I might steal that one ;)
@@SailLifeIt's all yours Mads :)
Mads , glad you enjoy the administration services from France as this must be super rare ;-)
Mads looked SO uncomfortable in that hot water lol. I imagine I'd make about the same face
Ava, I sing the same thing!😂😂
Don't know whether you've upped your camera gear but the resolution of a lot of that (very enjoyable) video seemed really reeely good. Not as good as one, not the other, of those sandwiches good but then what could be.
Not sure how far behind your video drop is, but we were in Antigua on Mar 2, on Oceania Vista. Might have almost crossed paths!
Sailing, but the Cristopher Cross version. Also Anya Carabean Blue. Every sail trip, my husband would make a mixed tape.
As far as singing goes...I agree with the obligatory "On the Road Again"...but prefer "I'm On a Boat" from The Lonely Island for my initial sailing song😂
I sign a slightly different words to that melody, "On the nose again, the wind is on my nose again, whatever way I go the wind is on the nose again."
If we ever dine together I'll go with an Ava sandwich, she had at "you have to start with mayo and mustard ..." :-)
Well, Grande Anse would pronounce something like "Grand Ance(from ance/estry)" and the most close for Deshaies should be "Day Hey". Turquoise waters and white sand beaches are in "Plage du Soufleur" (Blower's beach) just north to Port Louis, in Grande Terre (Big Land), the east wing of the butterfly. The other name of Guadeloupe is the caribbean native's word "Karukera" (Car-oo-cair-ah) which means the Island with pretty waters.
Haha - I start singing “Svantes lykkelige dag» in Norwegian danish and then Rod Stewart before I feel really old - and desperately try to find something more upbeat and modern to sing😅 Fair winds guys - the ice is about to break here in Norway🙄
Looks great fun! I always go for Rod Stewart’s “ we are sailing” and Johnny Cash “ further on down the road” , but yeah same thing. Doesn’t everybody do that ?
Ava wins the sandwich if in the USA or Canada where larger portions and high staking always fills a hungry person ;)
Antigua has 365 beaches!
It looks like a nice country
Pigs - Pink Floyd is my go weighing anchor song.
Mads, i have to go with Ava on the wrap.
2:52 another bromeliyad :)
curious, do you not have a flopper stopper? Don't you think that would really help in some of those anchorages that have a lot of roll
Ava wins the sandwich making contest.
You can rent an island in the Exumas.
mergull says hi!
fyi: i think for you next boat you should build it from scratch. or new hull & desk, but other raw space.
So you know before you go…Antigua is actually pronounced as Antiga. I was corrected by the locals, so there ya go!
Guadalupe isn’t that where that couple were killed cruising on their catamaran
I was just looking up this incident and found a photo of the two sailors in The Guardian that gave me goosebumps as one was wearing a shirt with the red pirate flag, meaning "no prisoners." I would never wear something like that when I went to sea. rip
I belive that was Grenada. Horrible story!
