    Speaking of hot glue....
Try putting a strip of tape (weaker the sticky the better) around the outside bottom (side of hot glue) so you can lay your hot glue and it sticks to the tape... and not your wood. It's just an idea I thought I would share and I hope it works to make situations like that a little easier.

I can't agree with David more about KenCraftCo. Visited Toledo in October with my fiance and had a great time, and the people were incredibly helpful.
When Becky died in December, I decided to make a small urn for some of her ashes, so I worked with KenCraft to get some 10 quarter spalted maple to make the urn. Since I'm a member of a local maker space, I put out a call to the member aid they wanted to combine an order for shipping and whatnot... Almost 3cuft of wood was delivered from Toledo to Central PA for 130 total (wood, custom cut charges, and shipping).
If you want anything wood, and you have to order it, KenCraft is THE place to buy.
