- I am SO EXCITED about this song! I had so much fun composing it with help from SlapJack Gaming and writing the lyrics with UnintendedMango. I hope you all enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it!

Seeing as the BhF breakdown series started with this song (and how iconic it is) I’ve decided to post my own breakdown of Prometheus. Here we go:
Starting off with the fire rhymes. It perfectly fits both the character of Prometheus and Techno. It incapsulates his motivate during the Pogtopia and New L’Manburg days. He wants to bring the people of DSMP “into the light” so to speak, because he views them mostly as products of their government and therefore he has a duty to correct what has been wronged. In his head, no government = no corruption = better people and more freedom.
The chorus expands on this, showing the lengths Techno’s willing to go to achieve his goals. Betrayal, spawning withers, destroying a pillar of hope in many’s eyes. Almost nothing can stop him: he’s a titan. He’s willing to go head to head with Tommy, Quackity, even Dream.
The second verse has the ‘er’ rhymes, which while a bit easier to find, are also creatively used. This verse shows that the song is set after the failed execution and the Butcher Army stuff. It’s in preparation for Doomsday, that’s why he mentioned ‘a flood a thousandfold.’ (The thousands reference is also a stable of KoE’s Techno songs, but I’ll mention that later.) Calling Quackity an Avenger is also funny to be, because when Techno teamed up with Tubbo and Eret to get back Michael, they were called the Revengers. I’m not too sure on the timeline between that stream and the release of Prometheus, but it’s interesting nonetheless.
The next section is jam-packed with cool references. Firstly, there’s Techno’s army of dogs, which have popped up multiple times in important events, including Doomsday. Then, of course, there’s the ‘fire and shadow’ motif that sort of defines both Techno in BhF and also the titan Prometheus. Prometheus tried to bring them fire, bring them into the light (this is where Plato’s allegory of the cave comes in, which hadn’t even occurred to be until I watched the breakdown vid) but the people of L’Manburg are resistant to the change. He has to go to even worse measures to get what he wants. Finally, there’s the ‘all is fair in love and war’ which is a common phrase that actually really just fits the entire tone and themes of DSMP and especially the morally gray characters (of which there are many).
Other stuff I missed or liked:
The references to L’Manburg and its people as the city of Troy
L’Manburg in BhF as Babel (which I think really fits, because these people have absolutely no communicating and it seems obvious in retrospect that it was always doomed to fail)
Tommy as Theseus- always a hero, a kid thrust into a war, into positions no one should have to face.
Quackity as Icarus. Besides the fact that lots of people (including me) headcannon c!Quackity as a duck avian, Quackity’s always lived on the edge. He couldn’t join L’Manburg, he won the election through shady means, his anger and emotions drove him to do things like take on Techno and manipulate Fundy, Purpled, and Foolish. He’s arrogant, cocky, and very smart. ‘Flying too close to the sun’ really just fits.
The references to Phil’s ravens. Not to mention that the titan Prometheus’ punishment for giving humanity fire was to be picked at by birds (and the crow call is a nice touch).
And the references to other songs! I can see why it’s a cornerstone of the album. Nice work, Knight, Mango, and Slapjack! Clovergem certified banger.

I just wanna add, I love the use of the Tower of Babel. As it really fit what Tecnoblade did. He crushed their city, making everyone fracture into several factions across the map. Truly Tecnoblade caused something of biblical proportions.
So true!! That was one of the first lines I wrote and is still one of my favorites! :) It’s actually inspired the name of the album if I ever compile all these songs into one.

I love all the references to Greek mythology in the SMP:
Techno is Prometheus, a raging warrior who brings fire and destruction. Tommy is Theseus, a hero who was exiled by his own people. Wilbur is Icarus, his own ambition was his downfall
Those are all the ones actually referenced in the SMP, but there are other parallels too:
Dream is Zues, a god who meddles with the lives of everyone else. Schlatt is Jason, who betrays the very people who gave him power. Nikki is Medea, who swears to destroy the legacy of the man who broke her heart.

Extremely late but,
I’d like to add a personal thought .
I see Philza as Odin (not the one from god of war), he has an army of crows that act as his eyes. He is old ( in the smp) and speaks as if he has experienced everything such as Odin does due to him trying out everything even Death (which Philza is canonically married to).
[I know this isn’t Greek mythology but I wanted to throw this out there].
Norse mythology is pretty cool too. Very funky tales.
Dream could also be like Odin because of the story of Odin being willing to sacrifice so much for knowledge (the revive book in the story of the DSMP maybe? It's been awhile I've forgotten a lot of the lore.)
If anyone didn’t know, the greek god about Prometheus:
Prometheus and his brother were tasked with creating life. Prometheus made humans and his brother made the animals. Zeus gave him and his brother special powers to give to the humans and animals. Unfortunately his brother used all the powers on the animals which left the humans weak. Prometheus was very mad so he stole a sacred fire from Mt. Olympus and gave it to the humans. The humans them began to think and wonder. Zeus was very mad, he didn’t want these mortal beings having something of the gods. So he punished Prometheus.

@@InsidiousMCP That isn't the only parallel, Prometheus was the Titan of Foresight, he could see how events would play out before they did. In Greek Mythology, there is a cyclical prophecy of Patricide, the son will always kill the King of the "Father" Race. Ouranos was killed by Kronos, Kronos was killed by Zeus. Prometheus knew which of Zeus' human children would eventually depose him and end the age of the Gods. Zeus questioned Prometheus about this, but he didn't tell Zeus anything, as humanity was Prometheus' favorite creation with our ability to decide our own fates. This angered Zeus, and in addition to his theft of Fire, punished him with unrelenting cruelty. Prometheus was tied to a stone and left to be disemboweled by an eagle everyday. This was Prometheus' punishment and torture. The pain will end when he tells Zeus which human will kill him. But Prometheus will not break and he will not yield, because Prometheus loves his creation, and wants to watch the Gods burn.
Prometheus, like Eve, are misunderstood heroes of Mankind.
And theseus is the god of aftersight (or what ever it was called) and prometheus' little brother, that's why techno calls Tommy theseus.

Gotta love Prometheus bringing the fires of War to the SMP, and Phil being Odin in a sense with how smart he is and his ravens and the wolves in the attack. They had the foresight to prepare, the means and methods easily outclassing the rest.
Two gods, resetting the world in a Ragnarok made by man. The world ends in fire only to start anew in what's almost an endless cycle of growth and decay.
He tried to warn them.
They both did.
I like how the "fire" isn't actually fire, for techno's story, it'd be a metaphor for battle and that's pretty cool. "You fell in love with shadow" the freedom that war brings, "you learned to hate the flame it's from" the war that is demanded for the freedom. After all, if you have peace and freedom, than you have nothing.

I've always loved listening to this song as an epic march that's being charged forward despite the odds, maybe even more so because of the odds run against them, and just how wonderfully orchestrated it is. I...went to this not too long once after the news had settled with me, Technoblade never dies and his flames still burn that bright light. I'll be back to listen again.

Love all the references to various greek and biblical myths, gives such a powerful vibe! Of course there’s techno as Prometheus and tommy as Theseus, but there are just so many others!

The flood reference is one of my favorites because not only does it refer to the biblical flood, but it also refers to the Greek flood myth where Prometheus warns his son of the coming disaster and tells him to build an ark. It’s also a callback to Techno’s speech of bringing vengeance a thousand fold on his enemies.
I also love that you caught the raven reference. Me and UM were trying to reflect the eagle myth as well as Phil's involvement in the final destruction of L'Manburg, hence our choice of a raven. But I didn’t even think about how that would tie Odin to that, and that's just awesome!!
It’s interesting that you connected the Icarus reference to Tommy bc I actually wrote that as a reference to Quackity, but I guess it also works for Tommy 😅

I don't want to spoil the philosophy reference before anyone gets a chance to figure it out, and this leans pretty heavily on that (or at least, I was thinking of that when I came up with this). Also, I'm super curious to see if anyone will pick up on the extended metaphor I'm thinking of. You'd have to have a grasp of the main concepts of Christianity, I think, but even if you know the basic story, you could figure out part of it.
@@KnightofEndale oh man, quackity as icarus works so well! I didn’t recognize the callback to techno’s thousand fold vengeance, and the connection to plato’s cave is super interesting! The themes of indoctrination by political system definitely fit with techno’s belief in anarchy, and the allegory also suggests that techno’s enemies are so used to their illusions that they refuse to accept reality. They cling to the familiarity of shadowy forms when they could embrace the truth of the fire
Now that I think about it, techno also works as a christ figure here 👀. Man was executed for his preachings and promptly ascended from the dead, brings the flame of the holy spirit to purify the land, and he even has a devoted following that preserves his teachings for posterity. Each of your lyrics have so many layers, I’m beyond impressed by your and UM’s songwriting prowess

Anyone who doesn't know about the story of Prometheus or greek myth here is the quickest coherent story I can formulate,-
In the greek genesis story first there was Chaos out of her came 3 children Gaea- mother earth, Tartarus - the never-ending void and Nyx - The eternal night, out of Gaea came children, Ouranos - the sky and others. Gaea took Ouranos as her husband, they had many children including the titans and the hundred handed ones, Ouranos hated the hundred handed ones, so he threw them into Tartarus. Gaea despised Ouranos for this so she went to the Titans and tried to convince them to overthrow Ouranos, the youngest of her children Kronos took on the task Gaea gave him a scythe made if adamantine. Kronos along with his brothers castrated his father and killed him. Before his death Ouranos warned him that he started a cycle of patricide, Kronos later took his sister Rhea as his wife and instead of not having children to prevent the cycle of patricide Kronos decided to eat any children that came from Rhea. Kronos ate 5 children, on the sixth (Zeus) Rhea tricked him into eating a rock instead of Zeus and he grew up and made Kronos puke his siblings, along with them he fought the 10 yearlong war known as the Titanomachy which they won.
(Now is the part where Prometheus comes in)
Prometheus was the Titan of foresight, his brother Epimetheus was the titan of hindsight, he foresaw that the gods would win so he sided with them, when the gods took over, they decided to reward Prometheus and his brother Epimetheus with the honor of creating all animals of the earth. Epimetheus gave all other creature wings or claws but there was nothing left for the humans so Prometheus not wanting his creatures to suffer stole fire from Mount Olympus and gave it to them. For this Prometheus was punished for this by being chained to a rock and having a vulture eat his kidneys every day, every day his kidney would regrow and every day it would be eaten again and again for eternity

Man is this such a good song, its definitely within top 5 on my list of favorite Technoblade songs that I have heard and also ranked very high on the list of all the DSMP songs/themes that I have heard.

The song is amazinggggg i love it but one little thing i thought it was funny the line that you say im not the one the ravens will dismember becuase after prometheus gave the fire to mankind zeus chained him in a mounten and had big birds eat his guts while he was alive throu the day and since he was a god at night he healed only to get eaten alive by the birds again and again
but overall i liked the song very much and the singing is also amazing

The DSMP reminded me of the old SMP i joined. AnarchySMP. The series was just a few thousand players. People got devine gifts and i got taming. Then later i got the power of commands... I was the guy everyone was against.
