- This song originally came out with the premier of my new album "babel has fallen". But I hope you guys enjoy having this song as a single on UA-cam!
"This Tragedy of Mine" is a song about Technoblade's character on the Dream SMP in the wake of c!Ranboo's death after the prison escape in November 2021. The song was originally written in March 2022, but wasn't released until October with the release of the completed album.

'Oh Death, where is your sting? Isn't the mentor supposed to die', that hits hard now- Techno was a mentor and/or role model for so many people...
I must admit, I didn't realize this was a technoblade song, but now it makes a lot more sense

"The dealings of the mortals..." - reference to how the Gods in mythology were not actually supposed to interfere in human affairs and were punished when they did (Prometheus, Apollo,...)
Thanatos - Phil (escaping house arrest), Angel/God of Death
Theseus - Tommy (reconciling with everyone)
Agamemnon - Dream (having the Revive Book, thus "proclaimed himself a God"; tortured by Quackity and, to a lower extent, Sam), L'Manberg=Troy (especially factoring in Tubbo=Hektor)
Phrixus - Connor (Techno searching for Ranboo in Pandora's Box and finding Connor)
Prometheus - Techno, reference to the myth where Heracles freed Prometheus
"With a thousand fold threat..." - referencing Techno's speech about kindness and injustice in the Failed Execution stream
"I'll bring fires of vengeance long overdue" - Doomsday reference (DSMP/Christian), also a reference to Prometheus giving fire to the humans after Zeus explicitly forbid it
"Gods of Death and Bloodshed..." - referencing Phil and his friendship with Techno, also the Blood God
"I forgot that..." - referencing how caring too much has led him to this point (also I've heard a version where his punishment includes an eagle picking at his eyes, thus "rendered blind")
Goddess - Kristin, the Lady Death
"Did you give him needed rest..." - "Haunted" reference
"Oh Death, where is your sting?..." - another reference to the Great Adventure stream, also a reference to how most of the mentors in fiction die before their apprentices (Star Wars alone has three different examples)
"And now only the Chorus sings..." - the Chorus being Techno's Voices
"My hounds at the ready..." - "Prometheus" reference, that entire part is in past tense while in "Prometheus" it was present tense, referencing how much time has passed
"I gave you a home but they took you away" - "Beloved" reference

I'm glad to be one of the chorus that sings Techno's tragedy.
My best guesses are as follows for the references
Hektor-Ranboo (losing family, Michael, before dying)
Daedalus- Sam inventor/builder
Icarus- quackity (clues in other songs)
Orpheus - wilbur (musician)
Eurydice- lmanberg
Next bit addressing Ranboo calling back to the bit where techno exploited his silk touch hands (does that mean Hektor wasn’t Ranboo?)
Talking about being torn apart by birds reference to Prometheus‘ original punishment in myth?
Thanatos - Phil (angel of death)
Theseus -Tommy duh
Agamemnon- dream (tortured by Q in prison)
Phrixus - ??? (Maybe slime if q is his saviour idk)
Song about techno grieving Ranboo
Goddess - Kristen (goddess of death)
The chorus- techno‘s voices (referring Greek Chorus in plays)
Tubbo maybe for hektor, haven’t heard of the character before so I can’t be sure
@@twilightcadmea reading the subtle hints (the fact that your reply got hearted) imma guess that you’re right. Tubbo makes much more sense too if we’re assuming that the song is set post ranboo’s death. I don’t really know who hektor was either I want to say he was the one who ran three times around the walls of Troy cos he was so scared of Achilles but I may be wrong. And can’t be bothered to google it.
@@twilightcadmea The only hektor I know from Greek myths is Hector of Troy. The brother of Paris of Troy. Could be different or just a localization.

Tubbo is Hektor (Hector of Troy). Hektor is an old spelling of Hector, like with Hekate=Hecate (Greek Goddess of Magic). Phrixus is Connor, referencing how he got locked in the Prison for stolen valor, his song ("Wrong Place, Wrong Time") is part of the "Babel Has Fallen" album.
Techno is probably smiling at it in aether (heaven)

Something that’s been tickling my brain since the album release is the references to 1000 in techno’s songs. We got “a flood a thousandfold is coming down” in Prometheus, and now “a thousandfold threat” in this tragedy of mine
I asked in the qna community post thread, but is a thousand more stories an extension of the “thousandfold” pattern? Bc if so, I love the thread that connects techno to all these narratives. I love how it harkens back to the “you need not fear the result of a hundred battles” and “if I had another hundred lives, I’d choose technoblade again every single time” quotes ;-; They pack so much emotion now, after everything. Plus the little hints of quotes from this song you’ve been dropping for _months_ in the community posts??? Splendid, wonderful, it’s all coming together 😌
Ok, so the “thousandfold” pattern was absolutely intentional in “Prometheus” and “This Tragedy of Mine”, but I didn’t even notice the 1000 connection to “A Thousand More Stories” until you pointed it out just now!!! Oh my word, how did I not catch that?!?! All those songs have been done since July!! 😱😵
The real miracle with this was how you managed to fit those heroes’ names in and still make it sound good. This is an incredible song

@@KnightofEndaleso thousandfold is techno through line in what I belive is a reference to his line where he aus he will pay back injustice a thousandfold but it's also a reference to the thousand voices he has in his alteast that how I interpret it. Absolutely brilliant writing

Did anyone else remember when techno was testing ramboos power out on the smp and made a comment that he's the wise sensei and that the sensei dies and becomes the motivation of the main character?

AH!! This is definitely one of my favorite songs!! It's just, I don't know if it's just me, but it has this slightly eerie vibe, it has all these mythological references (Hektor=Tubbo, Daedalus=Sam, etecera), the Prometheus and Beloved and Haunted callbacks, it's a C!Techno song dealing with C!Ranboo's death. Just. This is definitely up there with Prometheus, Beloved, You Dreamed a Dream and In the End. 💜🧡💜
The way I interpret this is how painful it is to see so many people mourn and cry for him, he loved us and would want us to be happy

I love how this song means so many things to everyone. Some see it as a techno tribute while others attribute it to more of the rp, and some just love how you put music together. That is the essence of art
Technoblade will forever in our heart
This is my absolute favourite Technoblade song, it's nice to return here every once in a while. I completely love every part of it, it's one of those few songs that feel way deeper when you carefully listen to the lyrics and thus demands all of your attention. Fantastic work!

This is an amazingly beautiful and emotional song.
In addition, it is a wonderful conclusion to the entire album - the interweaving of the stories of the heroes and their apogee, some sort of catharsis.

I'm so happy to see this finally out as it's own song, it's easily one of my favourites you've made so far, the mixing of Greek myths is at it's peak here which is just perfect as a send off to the guy who started that trend of comparisons. One thing I don't quite get is who Hektor and Phrixus are meant to be, I'm guessing Hektor is Tubbo but I have no idea for Phrixus.
Not me understanding the mythology references
The moment I started listening to this, my jaw dropped. It sounded so cool and it fits Technoblade's character really well. Amazing.

I envy all those who don't know who Technoblade is. If you're not someone who knows, this is an epic song full of the starkest imagery and a bunch of mythical references.
If you DO know... ...it's agonizingly beautiful.
One thing I find interesting that is probably unintended:
Philza is obviously the one referred to as Thanatos hence the chains and such, therefore logically his wife mumza would be Mikalkos(probably not spelling that right) goddess of blessed death
Correction it is Makaria, as expected I horribly butchered the name
For those wondering the potential significance is that Mumza is most likely the goddess who was being asked if she welcomed him
Such a good song techno was an inspiration for all and his legacy will continue till the end of time.

You know something I just realized? In the first bit, when you're singing about Hektor, Daedalus, Icarus and Orpheus (aka Tubbo, Sam, Quackity and Wilbur) - everyone besides Tubbo is a villain. Maybe not Quackity as much as Sam and Wilbur, but still.
And that's in contrast to when you sing about Thanatos, Theseus, Agamemnon, Phrixus and Prometheus (aka Phil, Tommy, Dream, Connor and Techno) when Tommy and Connor are the only ones not having a villainous role.
And I don't know where I'm going with this, I just know it reminded me of the Vantage animation video by Halfy, where near the end it shows Quackity, Dream, Wilbur, Niki and, in the middle, Tubbo. As if replacing Schlatt.
