    Back when Frieren first met Fern, she commented on the how hard it was to perceive Ferns mana, meaning that one of the things that Heiter had been teaching Fern was to suppress her mana. In episode 11 we found out that is something Heiter most likely picked up on from Frieren.

      Yup. You can also see in episode 2 during the "seasons passing" montage Frieren drawing a circle around Fern into the sand. It's to show her how big her mana release should be.

    One thing I love about this anime is that it doesn't glorify fighting/war. Like yeah the battles are awesome but that respect for life still comes to the forefront.

    Fern when Stark offers to carry Frieren: No one touches my elf

    The scene of the big hamburger steaks is one of my favorites, it's feels so intimate with the characters and hits so hard.
    One thing this anime does really well is give you and the characters time to process their emotions, it's not just "stark you have to run" and he starts running or cut to black, you can see and feel how hard of a decision that was for him and his brother, and how present Stark is overcome by feelings and just says "yeah" (amazing delivery by the Voice Actor btw)
    Also is really interesting how Frieren handles flashbacks, first they showed that Himmel's sword was a fake in the flashback, so in the present you think Himmel took the real sword but then the audience and the characters learn he couldn't do it. They did something similar when revealing Stark with the question "Is Stark a great warrior?" this back and forth makes the story much more engaging

    Cool little detail that people usually don't pick up in this falling asleep in the blizzard scene that Frieren probably only got her dream (that focused on flower fields around them) because Fern was carrying her.
    She commented on Fern smelling nice and buried her face back into her hair which suggests that Fern smells like flowers since it triggered that memory/dream for Frieren.

    It's a real pleasure to watch these with you, man. The way you pick up on the storytelling, and allow yourself to be effected by it is really refreshing. This vibe and openness is why I enjoy reactors so much-thanks for taking us on the journey with you!
    I love how we get to know Stark, how his character grows (I wanted him to have a go at the sword too!). The way they world build with the mentions of religion, the steady pace... There's something every single episode that leaves me feeling like I had a good meal 😌✨
    Some more of my faves coming up! Looking forward to watching them with you, too!

    Kraft called Frieren young. he must be at least a couple millennia older than her
    also, heiter noticing that Frieren is suppressing her mana without her telling him is an amazing feat that goes mostly unnoticed. its the little details that subtly show how absurdly strong each member of the party of heroes were.

    i always shed a tear when i hear Kraft say that everyone who remembered of his righteous triumphs are dead. It is frightening how alone must he be, compared to even Frieren. In the later episodes we see the statue of him and nobody really knows who he is, it's truly crazy.
    Also as an orphan myself, it burns when Heiter says he's an orphan. I just want to give him a hug

    Really love your reactions and appreciation for a lot of the little things in this series. I'm not a huge fan of anime even though I've seen quite a bit for a Gen Xer. Frieren is the first series to have such an impact on my life since Rurouni Kenshin and Great Teacher Onizuka for the great story-telling and life lessons. Looking forward to keeping up with your journey. The life of a reaction youtuber must be hard, I wouldn't be able to control the urge to just keep watching episodes until my consciousness failed me.

    Stark always feels guilty because he ran. Its because he can remember the fact that his brother tell him to run. Its like traumatic experience so the half of that was erased. Thats the whole reason why he never feels confident & always underastimate himself.

    Fern is obviously similar to Frieren.
    Frieren started teaching her at a young age, Frieren at this point spend more time with Fern than her parents or Heiter.
    Obviously not because they did not want to, not blaming them here.
    But Fern basically has barely any social interaction or upbringing with other humans.
    Other orphans in shelters get socialised through interaction with one another in the orphanages by the church, but Heiter raised her alone until Frieren came.

    Since you mentioned Mushoku Tensei: as a fellow light novel reader, I highly recommend checking it out!
    It's a groundbreaking series that paved the way for many common Isekai tropes we see today. Despite some initial tough themes, it's worth pushing through for the incredible character growth and storytelling.
    It's got one of the best world-building, characters, and plots in anime (in my opinion). Every character is deeply developed, not just a plot device. The world is vast, which might feel overwhelming, but the anime navigates it beautifully, making it easy to follow and understand. Easily one of my all-time favorites!

  • @LetholdusKaspyr

    Mushoku Tensei is a great anime, and peak isekai. It's called out as the greatest isekai sometimes, because his life before continues to matter. However, it's hard to recommend as something to react to. Apart from the rampant haters, there are a lot of things you'll just need to edit out for being inappropriate.

    • @jasonj3867
      @jasonj3867 8 місяців тому +1

      hard disagree, both parts of first season are extremely interesting and are more than just power-fantasy isekai. Unfortunately second season slows down so much it's reminiscent of The promised neverland. All characters grind to a halt and the animation does as well. Plus it's hard to enjoy a story when the entire conflict of the arc is about ED

    • @LetholdusKaspyr
      @LetholdusKaspyr 8 місяців тому

      @@jasonj3867 The second season is indeed slow and lacking in action, and I could have done without so much focus on the Little Rudeus arc, but I'm still enjoying the characters and progression.

    A monk and a priest are both religious, in monks in real life don't perform public activities and concentrate in their religion unlike a priest who do more stuff to open public. In video games a monk is a priest who almost all times knows fighting styles and a priest concentrates only in holy magic/habilities.

      Yeah it is hard to recommend because it is a story trying to make you sympathise with a kid diddler and then you are forced to watch him live out his erotic fantasies and be rewarded a power fantasy despite being a piece of shit with no redeeming qualities in his previous life. Isekai is dog shit because at the end of the day it is a shitty power fantasy and everything will revolve around that.

    Since you asked, I would put Mushoku tensei as comparable to Frieren. I consider them as part of the top tier of modern fantasy anime (Specially if action is not what you are looking for but do appreciate it when it happens). Frieren, Mushoku Tensei, Spice and Wolf, ReZero and I would put Made in Abyss there but is kinda different (And we won't be seeing a season 3 for that for a long time).
    Which one you'll prefer will vary greatly but in my case I would put Mushoku and Spice and wolf above just because they are finished works (Light novel). If Frieren ever ends I would put as a tie with Mushoku.
