i believe having too much is a very risky approach it’s always better having less than over needed, if you hold some spares i’d advise multiplying layers in very specific problematic spots rather than saying i got alot lets spray the room all over - i’ve seen and heard such of dumb comments from “professionals” due to over usage of baffles complaining at their gear w*f grow some brain damit.
would love a video on how to make them panels :) anyone else agree? Edit: Wow this is the best like comment I've ever had :) Not really about me because I want to see a video on them panels but it's kinda cool. Let me have this moment internet LOL
Yes! I want the video about sound treating the room and making panels cheaply! These Postproduction snaps are exactly what I was looking for in your Video! Thanks, digging it!
So somehow I missed that you were uploading more videos, so I am going back and watching them now. So far I have learned that I know even less than I thought I did about sound. Keep them coming, I want to learn!
Please do a video on Sound Panels. How to make them yourself and proper placement would be a huge help. Love the videos. Please keep making them! We love the good info.
This is amazing! Just more in depth. We will watch you for a long time so don't worry. So step by step on all these tips would be AMAZING! you rock! Keep it up!
Hey Alex, would love to hear your thoughts on how to dampen rooms, especially if you have advice for how to do that without nails, ie. if you're living in a rented property. Thanks!
Good one -- Definitely a series on EQ for dialogue and VO. And another on effect chains. And one for breaking down the interior dialogue shotgun issue. 8040 for a boom mic?
Discovered you through the video you did with the Potato guy ;-) and I must say so far you do a wonderful job and your explanations are great! I hope you continue for a long time and keep the quality!
Hey Alex! It's nice to see here that a true professional who knows his tools and doesn't talk bullshit takes the time to make these videos. Its a relief seeing somebody talk about noise reduction who uses Izotope RX not like audacity or whatever (just an example). Keep up the good work, it is even enjoyable for someone who is in the pro audio field too.
Great info! So true, many choices... I now own many different Mics! Shotguns, studio, Lavs, recorder mics, phone, and in-cameras. I still use them all where they work the best or more than one just for a safe backup!
Clean video, great info. Yes please post a video showing how you make your sound baffles. What might you use to control sound in an ultra light weight travel system?
I know you've briefly mentioned the DIY panels here and a bit more in a more recent video but if you would be willing to make a video going more in depth on them, or pointing us to a specific guide you think is worth following that would be awesome!
Thanks for this video, very explanatory! I've got two problems that I run into with my recordings, and I've been searching the internet but to no success. The first one is, removing reverb sound from audio using audacity. The second one, is a much bigger issue that I encounter. I'm using Audacity to record and to edit my audio. For recording I use a Tonor BM microphone. The problem with the audio is that if I import it to premiere, and synchronize both clips (camera and microphone recording), it starts to unsync itself after a few cuts. I will have to manually adjust and then after time it will just unsync again (even with no cuts in between). It's driving me nuts. I hope you've got an answer!
Those explanations about the post workflow are awesome. I wonder if you could make a video about some basic stuff: frequencies that you should cut, a little bit about what tools to use, and how to use, that can improve your audio (compressors, equalizers), etc. And if I'm note extending myself, haha, that tip about pointing the mic towards the chest would work with a shotgun mic as well?
This video is great. I've been very curious to learn more about sound and this video is a really great start. I think one of the problems for me with sound is not knowing which programs to use, which ones people recommend, and how to utilize the tools you laid out in the video. I'm not posting this as a critique, at all - just trying to verbalize what I think, as a follower, would be helpful/useful for me to watch in the future. Thanks =)
Great video, Alex! I already feel like I’m learning so much already. I really appreciate these videos. I feel like sound is an area I need a lot of improvement in
I’m glad you started a channel! You explain things very clearly and your videos are super helpful. Thanks for doing a video on UA-cam audio! And now I know for sure how to use a dead cat :D
Came from potato jets channel, really liked the video you made with him. I’m looking forward to watching all your videos, thanks for sharing your knowledge on sound! *also, just purchased a rode mic pro plus as a starter mic to play around with.
Hi Alex ! Thanks for the video :) You talked about a lot of very technical stuff during the video, but without actually explaining them. Would you consider make a step by step, in depth guide on all of those things we can do to record and then post process good quality audio ? It would be life saver for people like me that are very new to all this, and would like to learn how to step up their production. Thanks again for your work, Take care, Alex
The video Alex made with with Potato Jet was really good for this (especially explaining different mic uses) have a look here... ua-cam.com/video/S7kZse5qrzs/v-deo.html
+1 for the DIY panels video. Not sure if, or how much you use Adobe Audition. I’m guessing a lot of people doing UA-cam videos have access to it, so I’d love to see some tutorials on using it properly. Maybe a beginners level video covering audio workflow and basic tweaks.
Would love to see a video on panels--ESPECIALLY placement. I bought a big box of Owens Corning 703, but it has sat in my office/studio for a year while I tried to figure out the best placement. Looking forward to seeing more videos, man!
I love the video, i was pretty confused with the audio programs you showed until i did some research but i would love a video about VST and DAW and what that whole nose is about?
Fantastic advice on a topic most ignore I have the electro voice re20 w the cloud lifter Should it be set more pointed at my neck and chest or should it be painted more towards the mouth area? I keep levels around 11-12 o’clock as far as how much gain Everything runs through Universal Audio hardware w Neve and compression and limiting
The RE20 sounds really full bodied when pointed directly at your mouth from about an inch or so away, much like the SM7B. Gain and settings will vary to taste, but you've definitely got the right tools! That's a great setup for voice recording.
Superb video Alex! I would LOVE to see a video on some solutions for one-man-band audio capture for short films! I want to make them as top quality as possible!!! Thanks dude, keep up the good work!
I own a zoom h5n (I can see from this video that wasn’t the best choice haha), rode videomic pro, and some very cheap rode lavaliers- my audio isn’t great though and I would love some advice. I was thinking maybe the seinheser lav or rode video link could be a decent solution. Thanks :)
Can you make a video where you go into depth on techniques for recording dialogue outdoors in noisy situations? For example, say the only location that works for visuals of a scene is in the city or next to busy roads? How do big budget films approach this, is there a way I can achieve similar results?
In addition to the fantastic technical content, the other thing I enjoy about your videos is that you speak grammatically correct English. It's not something you hear every day from Americans. And, yes, I'm American, so I'm allowed to say that. Bravo on the great channel. Subscribed.
Really Great Video!!!! Can't wait for more!! It would be really nice if you went into a little more basics of recording. Like what kind of setups are useful for different kinds of recordings, How to properly use EQ and what is a compressor. Basic stuff like that would be very helpful for noobs.
Hey Alex! I know you already did a video on Microphones on Potato Jet(Hi Gene), Please consider doing another one in the near future that's even more indepth. Sometimes, Phantom power sounds like something from a sci-fi movie.
Hey Alex, great new channel and really helpful! In your proposed hardware you have three different recorders: Tascam's DR-100mk3, DR-70D and the Focusrite 2i2. Which one would you propose for primarily in-studio recording usage to get the best result?
I'd say the Focusrite will be best all around if it's never being taken into the field (since it requires a power supply). DR100 is great as a standalone field recorder, and the DR70 is awesome when mounted to a DSLR if you're shooting video!
Could you make a video on noisy pre-amps vs quiet pre-amps on different audio interfaces. Maybe compare two of the most popular on UA-cam (beringher UM2 and Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2nd gen) against some audio interfaces that are actually good and that you recommend for people starting out? Thanks!
Came from Potato Jet's channel. I like the video. I'm learning about filmmaking and audio is a big part of it. What's your prefered XLR cables from shotgun mic to audio recorder? I'm getting the Sennheiser MKH 416 with Sound Devices recorder.
informative! thanks looking forward to next videos! by the way: would you mind to put the mic you actually use in this video into ether the kit.com-list or the description? looks like a beyerdynamic but i suspect it's not... curious..
oh my god yes a video on panels would be a lifesafer. i can only find the cheap ones on amazon which are kind of shitty so if i can make something slightly better that'd be fantastic
Hmmm... so use lavalieres rather than a boom mic for monologue / dialogue... got the Zoom H6 do I’ll have to see how that works (or not) but I would like to see how you sync up your external recording with the video recording (that intend to take with a camera mic but ONLY use to match tracks with shots)
hi alex. can you talk more about mic. i have a problems with choosing the right type of mic for my videos, either a condenser mic or shotgun mic or lev mic. i'm recording on different places talking in front of small croud of people in a hall.. in some hall the noise quite high but in some hall are not. now i'm using cheap lev mic please help me. btw i love your videos. thanks men
I wish you made the video on making cheap panels before I spent hundreds on mine.
😂😂😂
@@softboxtime 😂 Same! Absolutely the same!😂
i believe having too much is a very risky approach it’s always better having less than over needed, if you hold some spares i’d advise multiplying layers in very specific problematic spots rather than saying i got alot lets spray the room all over - i’ve seen and heard such of dumb comments from “professionals” due to over usage of baffles complaining at their gear w*f grow some brain damit.
I’d love to see the sound panel video
Yes, please! I’d be interested, too!
would love a video on how to make them panels :) anyone else agree?
Edit: Wow this is the best like comment I've ever had :)
Not really about me because I want to see a video on them panels but it's kinda cool. Let me have this moment internet LOL
Absolutely!
Yes!
Yes, especially anything that's portable for a location recording. Like just setting up to record an interview or such like.
Yes! Them panels!
Mineral Wool -- build a frame, burlap. Hanging the right spot -- I still have no clue.
That kid from Up was right to recommend your channel. You're a pro for sure. Keep up the great content.
Tons of great info, thanks Alex!
Can you do an even more noob level video about the equalizer, that fab thing, etc. Awesome video btw
Not that many people giving this level of detail. Really useful stuff. Keep it up!
ALEX!! I just found you but needed this a year ago!@@! Im about to binge your whole entire channel!! THANK YOU
Glad you’re here now! Hope the info is helpful!
I truly appreciate you adding all the negative sounds when describing “bad audio” ! Really added to this video
This is a fantastic video that actually shows examples what you're talking about. Thank you for sharing your expertise!
Thanks for watching! Glad the video was helpful!
YES! A video on making the sound panels!!! Please make a video on making the sound panels!!!
If even an audio expert like him gets dislikes, I don´t feel so bad about my channel. Great content, Alex.
Pretty much anyone large enough will get dislikes from trolls and misclickers
Yes! I want the video about sound treating the room and making panels cheaply!

Glad you came back and checked!! Hopefully some of this info makes sense and is helpful, I'll definitely be uploading more soon!
+1 for the panel video... Honestly, this is one of my favorite Tutorial / Educational channels. Thank you so much for the info. It really helps
HELL-YES! I WANT MONEY-SAVING PANEL-MAKING TECHNIQUES!
Yes please would love a video on how these panel is made.
Really hope this channel takes off, so we can get a lot of content from you
Please do a video on Sound Panels. How to make them yourself and proper placement would be a huge help. Love the videos. Please keep making them! We love the good info.

This is amazing! Just more in depth. We will watch you for a long time so don't worry. So step by step on all these tips would be AMAZING! you rock! Keep it up!
I have the tascam dr-70!! I'm happy I went that route
Hey Alex, would love to hear your thoughts on how to dampen rooms, especially if you have advice for how to do that without nails, ie. if you're living in a rented property. Thanks!
Would love to see a video on making and hanging the panels!
I've been waiting for someone like you to come along, for quite some time. I came here because of the video that you did with Potato Jet.
Great channel. Really enjoying the content. As a newbie, your content has been by far the most helpful.
An absolute joy to see your videos show up in my subscription boxes 🙌🙌 been loving it man
Good one -- Definitely a series on EQ for dialogue and VO. And another on effect chains. And one for breaking down the interior dialogue shotgun issue. 8040 for a boom mic?
Thank you Potato! This guy is awesome! Oh, hi Alex! Great vid!
Please "put up a video showing you how to make these panels pretty inexpensively..." 🙏
Yes
Another helpful video--thank you! I'd love to hear more about sound panels.
damn this is some high quality content.. feels like i'm watching a master class.. great job!
Love this channel already. Awesome and easy to understand delivery of useful information.
Discovered you through the video you did with the Potato guy ;-) and I must say so far you do a wonderful job and your explanations are great! I hope you continue for a long time and keep the quality!

Definitely would love to see a sound panels video!
Very useful info! I especially liked seeing your plugin chain and seeing your eq settings.
Thank you so much for this video Alex!
yes on the DIY sound please! been wanting to make some sound blankets myself recently. real ones are so expensive..
Please please DO a video on sound panels, especially on how/where to hang them!
Great info! So true, many choices... I now own many different Mics! Shotguns, studio, Lavs, recorder mics, phone, and in-cameras. I still use them all where they work the best or more than one just for a safe backup!

Great video, Alex! I already feel like I’m learning so much already. I really appreciate these videos. I feel like sound is an area I need a lot of improvement in
Hey Alex, great video👌...especially the sound used effect to demonstrate the possible audio problems is a great idee👍
I’m glad you started a channel! You explain things very clearly and your videos are super helpful. Thanks for doing a video on UA-cam audio! And now I know for sure how to use a dead cat :D

Alex Knickerbocker thank you sir! Yeah it’s crazy how the tools have gotten so cheap
Could be a dope video to talk signal chain and which plugins go in what order
Great content Alex. Looking forward to your thoughts on panels.

Great explanation, what model of Genelec do you use for your room?
Thank you!
I'm using Genelec 8030's. Really accurate speakers...almost too honest sounding!
Yes another one
Now that's good content ! Man, you rock!

A Sound Baffel how to would be awesome, if you please!

may o request you to explain niquest prompt and how to use it? thanks! 😃👍
Great tips! I use a Canon m50 and would like to know what for the "attenuator" setting is. Should I have it on ON, OFF or AUTO?
Hey, I have an artificial heart valve and it makes a ticking noise, can i filter it out live or should i try and fix it in post?
Yeah, got the H6 and I don’t really have the budget to start over... we’ll see... when we get to the Quality Question.
Came from Potato Jet's channel. I like the video. I'm learning about filmmaking and audio is a big part of it. What's your prefered XLR cables from shotgun mic to audio recorder? I'm getting the Sennheiser MKH 416 with Sound Devices recorder.

oh my god yes a video on panels would be a lifesafer. i can only find the cheap ones on amazon which are kind of shitty so if i can make something slightly better that'd be fantastic
Maybe you should include photos for understanding what do you mean by naming some microphone types.
Hmmm... so use lavalieres rather than a boom mic for monologue / dialogue... got the Zoom H6 do I’ll have to see how that works (or not) but I would like to see how you sync up your external recording with the video recording (that intend to take with a camera mic but ONLY use to match tracks with shots)

Would be cool to get a video that has all free software resources for doing this
I like your thinking....
