as someone who has been frustrated trying to learn this for days THANK YOU . I have ADHD and could not find a tutorial that was as clear and easy to follow as this. Love that you stay strictly on step to step instructions rather than using a bunch of filler words. thanks so much
This is the first tutorial I've seen that thoroughly shows how to best add hair curves in layers from bottom to top/comb them and doesn't just essentially go "just add curves lol". The explanations for each setting in the geometry nodes helped too. Thanks a lot!
I think there's no better tutorial on UA-cam than this one to use this feature, simple, clear, objective, not long, keep it up, that's what we're looking for! And I have a question, what form should you use to animate these hairs? I didn't see how to apply the dynamics as in the conventional way...thanks for your attention and for the great tutorial!
Excellent video, down to the point. Useful tip is that you can have same shader setup that supports both Eevee and Cycles by having two Material outputs and choose eevee and Cycles in the dropdownlist
The best tutorial thank you ! One question I had was how to control the number of actual points number of the curves when painting density . Even if I set the count to 24 or more , the ‘proxy’ curve is used in the Groom network . I can see the detailed curve as I sculpt it , but once in object mode it just reverts to the lower res points
looks good and all and i see alot of tutorials on this but it seems not really anyone show how to animate it does this new hair system not support dynamics yet or how do you animated it so you can swing the head or head bang and see the hair fly around not going through the face is that not a thing yet for the new system ?
Amazing tutorial, thank you. The only issues I faced was the density brush didn't work - only subtracted hairs but didn't add any. And the hair interpolation didn't work for me as it only gave me a few strands of hair in random places. I used the hair duplicate curve instead which worked okay. I'm guessing I had these issues because I was using a full model and not just a head
I do have some questions. After setting the "Set Hair Curve Profile" modifier from the asset library, is it possible to take this and retain it as geometry when converting to Mesh? I've tried just Applying the Modifier before converting it to Mesh, but it loses the geometry after converting to Mesh. I know hair curves are a bit different from Bezier/Path curves, and Hair curves will not convert directly to Bezier or even Path curves. (So basically, I have to convert from Hair Curves to Mesh and then to Curves.) Am I missing a step? Or do I need to simply use the Hair Curves modifier as a sort of reference so that when I convert to Mesh, and then to Bezier Curves, I know what diameter I am looking for? I think I just answered my own question. LOL! Thanks anyway. Great tutorial!
Great Tutorial... But I can not find a way to import this to CC4 or Daz or anywhere... I can get the head, or partial head if I cut it into "sculp", but the hair is always missing... What is the point if it can't be used anywhere?
great tutorial! So, do you know how to export this to character creator 4? Every time I try, CC4 crashes, and when I try to import into Unreal, it fails to import.
Hi! I have a problem with using interpolate hair. When applying it, amount of hair becomes very small, and positioned very far from each other (yes, of course surface and uv are indicated). I tried to change value "distance to guides", but it doesn't properly work at small values, only starting from 10-20 cm, something like that. Finally, even setting the density very high (50000-100000 or more), result looks less then the initial curves. I founded out experimentally, that scale of the model influences for this, for example, if head is big enough (1-2 m), hair interpolation works more or less correctly, like in this video. But if it has more human scale (10 times smaller), a mentioned issue appeared. What should i can do?
@@knackepizza2480 I've actually managed to develop a way to make hair cards directly onto a hair mold mesh using the BMesh tool. Just a little more refinement and it ought to be a pretty good method for me.
hey my settings are super messed up what i try to do things. my sculpt mode is slow, and all my modifiers have to be moved in super small units or else it will go crazy. did I forget to apply to scale or something?
WOW, THIS LOOKS INTERESTING AND VERY COMPLICATED LOL, HOW WOULD YOU GO ABOUT DOING THIS WITH A BRAID? LIKE IF U WANT TO MAKE A LOW PONYTAIL BRAID (LIKE I DO) BECAUSE I CAN'T SEEM TO FIND ANY FREE HAIR MESHES THAT DON'T HIDE THE EARS BEHIND SAID HAIR, HOW WOULD U KEEP ONLY A FEW PARTS OF THE HAIR FROM TURNING INTO THE BRAID AND NOT THE OTHER PARTS? KNOW WHAT I'M SAYING, SORRY IF I'M SOUNDING CONFUSING, I AM NEW TO 3D MODELING FROM SCRATCH/USING PARTICLES AND NODES AND WHATNOT, SO IF ANY OF THIS DIDN'T MAKE SENSE, THEN I'LL TRY TOO EXPLAIN IT BETTER IF I CAN. :)
if one wanted to export this hair for use in character creator 3/4 or unreal engine. how would one go about doing this. I have created a few hairstyles with the curve system. I am confused on how to export the curves to a mesh.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! It was easy to follow ! I'm a beginner, do you know how I can use the Hair I creates in daz3d? Here's what I'm doing... I separate the hair from the head and export it as a object. When I add it to daz3d it looks like a blob. One is even looked like I took a marker and scribbled spirals around d the head 😂 I guess my question is. How do I keep the texture? ❤
I made a UV map, did the density brush and it only adds one curve that is SUPER long. When I use the add brush it does what you show. Was there an error in the density vs add?
I found that his scaling is out of whack. If your model is a properly scaled human being his values are way too much. If you set the Distance Min value to 0.2 meters then every curve will be 20 cm apart and that results in only ONE appearing on a properly sized human head.
Excuse me I'm trying to follow along but oh my god when i use the curl guide the stand is HUGE bigger than the head and the settings dont seem to make it smaller
bro idk why but i put a lot of hair curves and then when I add the interpolate hair curve node I get bald spots in the top. whu would interpolation create bald spots although I added a lot of instance curves
The collision Option shown at 2:38 only works when your model is like 20 meters across like in this demo. with more realistic dimensions its useless and you better use the shrinkwrap modifier.
What am I doing wrong if when I add the first hair it comes out totally different from the one in the video and then when I try to add modifiers it does not behave the right way
good, i think this tutorial is best startpoint for New hair system. but, seems have some bug in blender, when i follow the step in put "guild hair" on it, this will generate new hair rather than only change the current hair, but try sometimes...this bug gone..i don't know why this happened even it happened.
Becuase I made a copy of the head that's meant to only have the scalp. Separated and uv unwrapped it but it still won't let me move on and acts like there is no uv map
For now, the new hair system doesn't support hair dynamics. But they try to improve. Maybe we can convert it to a particle system and enable the hair dynamics.
I have completed it but I am unsure of how to put it onto my sims in blender, would you know how I could do that? I have thought of one way but it would mean for me to start all over again and I'd rather not at the moment but if there's no way then I will for sure do it again
The only way to add it in a way that will make it work with your sim would be to add in onto the sim itself, which means starting over again with minor adjustments to the tutorial, sorry
This is a quite well done tutorial. However I alawys have the same question: does this hair work well in videogames characters or they are just useful for mannequins? Thank you.

Density brush not only add hair, also can delete. It depends on your hair distance value. Pls try to decrease ur hair distance.

Hi, does anyone know why hair sculpt collision doesn't work?? It's very frustrating...
Now, if Blender will create a way to make hair cards from this system, that would be great.
You can make hair cards with any particle hair system by using orthographic camera and baking
