One of the best GDQ runs for your explanations and the couch commentary! I've spent more time trying to beat one star than you took for the whole run, and I'm still stuck on 6 of 120 stars.

I'm 43 years old. Played every Mario game that is. Love all of them. But Galaxy 2 is my all time favorite, even above Odyssey and SM64. This is the game I've spent most time on. I never knew about speed-runs and these glitches and shortcut you can take. My whole life has been a lie.

Are you talking about my posture or just sitting while playing a video game for 3 hours? If it's the former, I often sit in a lot of contorted positions that are surprisingly comfortable for me. If it's the latter, endurance is a good thing to have.

Personally, I felt like a) I talked too much compared to my couch commentators (at least, I talked a lot more than I thought I would) and b) there were some times where I stumbled through commentary or spoke a bit too quickly. Still, I appreciate the kind words and am glad you still enjoyed my presentation all things considered. :)

I remember when i was younger and was on the box destroying game i groundpounded and frame perfectly died and had the timer run out and softlocked the game (required soft reset because i couldnt pause since i was dead technically) i thought it was interesting and this was perfect time to share
Spike is on almost every couch at gdq. I’ve never seen him run, but I’ve heard him explain countless runs. I’ve watched probably 8-10 different games with him on the couch

Returning to Neutral stick position then moving to the opposite side makes side flips way easier, I believe they changed the way it was from SM64 where you had to instantly do a R-L or L-R to get a side flip but they made the input alot slower so it's easier to do! The worlds should be called universes. The galaxies are fine because they are technically filled with a bunch of planets, thus classifying them as galaxies.
This is years old, but the bottom comment is right on the money. It took me like 1 week to get good enough to where I can do Browser with Yoshi. Once you practice long enough, it really becomes muscle memory and I did it lot to skip some parts and just because it became so much fun to do.
This game always confused the hell out of me as a kid. It says its a sequal but instead it retcons the first so you dont meet rosalina but then you still meet her at the end. Better game but worse story

Gameplay wise it's obviously superior, I mean galaxy 1 had good levels but it just mostly spectacle and planet hopping while 2 has more emphasis on actual platforming with all around more challenge to it, not to mention the first time yoshi is actually used properly in a 3D Mario game and add on actual content for getting all the stars and even a better co-op system and there's a better game in galaxy 2. Can't see how anyone would think galaxy 1 is better than galaxy 2 gameplay wise lmao must be nostalgia or something.
SMG2 is still the greatest game of all time Masterful game that manages to outclass its predecessor that was already high up there with Ocarina of Time.
The files weren't corrupted. The only place it could have been used in is Cosmic Cove Galaxy with the waterfalls, but there is a switch for it. The Red Star would also never be needed.

Once on the star where you speedrun the star in the ball level (the first one) the timer ends when the ball explodes. I got so unlucky because the timer ran out the exact pixel the ball exploded so Mario just fell over on an invisible ball lol
Galaxy 2 is better though. The level design is much more creative, the level themes are much more distinctive, the gameplay mechanics are more refined, and the new power-ups add much more variety. Galaxy 1 is great but Galaxy 2 is where they perfected the formula. Sure, Galaxy 1 has a nice story and great atmosphere, but Galaxy 2 wins in gameplay.
Having starbits in your inventory after collecting a star will bring up a textbox that counts down how many starbits you collected, which wastes around a second each time it shows up. Since you get all the starbits you need for the run from Banktoad, there's no need to collect starbits in any level, allowing us to skip those textboxes entirely.
The original finder of that skip (Odme_, please check him out, he's a very talented runner of every 3D Mario game) hates Lubba and calls him a Purple Idiot, and since he found the skip he got to name it. We all just stuck with it.

This is my favorite Mario game of all time, but after I started running odyssey the physics just seem _wrong_
For anyone wondering, the Yoshi tech is EXTREMELY hard to do, I spent probably an hour on it one time and it barely got the hang of it

After you beat a level, there’s a small portion where it adds the starbits you earned in the level to your total, so it’s faster to just skip them
