Shenanigans is super polite. He doesn’t butt in, he let the SMG runners commentate their game and only asked questions when he or the audience needed more information. Super good guest
Yes, excellent. Spike avoided acronyms, explained what we were seeing, mentioned what skips skipped, ... Many GDQ commentators only make sense if you're a knowledgeable speed runner, even if you've played the game 100% they're impenetrable. "That was an LBJ from an SR60 on HHB avoiding splat5," WTF.
Seeing spikevegeta ANYWHERE is always such a joy. One of the best runs to watch are the Kingdom hearts 1-2 runs. It's always a little family get together. People sing, they talk, they play games, etc. I love it so much
Miranda J totally agree. I sometimes just booted up my Wii just to play that level. I've spend hours just swimming with the shell because it was so relaxing.
I blame 360 for my lack of sleep. I’m insanely tired but then I’m like “Oh, a 2 and a half hour speed run by chrism. I can watch that instead of sleeping”
I just now noticed that the box behind the time with the flashing squares is binary. With the four boxes in each row having a separate value. The very bottom row is 1, then 2, then 4, and then 8. They all correspond to the possible 6 decimal places of the time.
I know that, you can hear that when they say the announcement on the fact that the money came from the selling of merchandise, but regardless, that is 1. Still a ridiculous amount of money, 2. Really good sales as well to be able to donate so much of that money to GDQ.
The Luma assists with their respiration in the vacuum of space but cannot do the same in water as it is not accustomed to dealing with such an atmosphere, that being the water
Did you know the soundtrack was originally planned to be like electro-sci fi themed sounds? It wasn’t until Koji Kondo or someone weote a test track in this style that it was decided to stick with it (best musical decision Nintendo has made tbh).
This video has been catalyst for my passion for this game. I am not a particularly professional at this game, nor do I claim to be the tippy top as my personal any % record for Luigi galaxy is 4:22:19. Yet, this run had reawakened an older part of myself wen I played this game as a kid. With the advent of the Switch release, I am now able to enjoy this game both in casual and competitive senses.
I am having the exact same experience - I’ve been watching this video for years now to learn how to run SMG and it made me love playing the wii again. A reincarnation of my childhood
I like how he used the English version since it only saves a minute or so in Japanese for us who don't care too much for seeing text we can't even read.
I played this game so much as a child. To the point where could clear the first two domes with all the stars and comets game with ease. I’d also try some tiny skips I found online like the Megaleg first planet skip. Seeing this game run is inspiring me to try the skips for myself.
36:23 the first time I tried this level skip with Mario as a semi little kid I just walked all around the boss before it activated, embracing the forbidding feeling I got just exploring a deactivates monster. I love this game so much
Still such a wonderful game. Probably my favourite game ever. Great to watch a speed run. The gravity mechanics are so well implemented. Although it is linear in places Galaxy gives you a great sense of freedom mostly. Think they should have made a Galaxy 3 and release all three in one package on the Switch.
It's awesome to see Super Mario Galaxy back at GDQ, and with Chrism and Spike to boot! I hope this year's SGDQ will feature Super Mario Galaxy 2. I also kinda hope one day there'll be a 120 star run of this game at GDQ, but that's a bit of a pipe dream. Also, I'm surprised how many games Spike runs or at least knows the speed-tech. I've seen him in Donkey Kong Country runs (both Rare and Retro), Kingdom Heart runs, Super Mario runs, Crash runs, and probably more.
"I don't think it's possible to get 60 stars before beating this boss..." I actually managed to get 61, by doing literally every star in order, so yeah it's possible.
Gotta say, impressive run. Well done Chrism! And I must say, as much as I love spike, anyone who pronounces it pokiemon is on my list. Either pokuhmon, or pokaymon.
The Zaaz well its actually rather pronounced like po-keh-mon since the é is french and they speak it as an stressed e because most of the time you dont speak the french e (I am not an expert so please correct me if i am wrong)
The underrated black sheep of the 3d Mario speedruns I say. This game really doesn't get much attention speedrun-wise as much as 64, sunshine, or odyssey (probably for the lack of game-breaking skips). Nice to see it playing here for a chance.
Shenanigans is super polite. He doesn’t butt in, he let the SMG runners commentate their game and only asked questions when he or the audience needed more information. Super good guest
Reuben Ahmed why do you disagree?
Because if you express an opinion on the internet someone will disagree with you.
HoswayVideoGames yeah I know, thats nothing new...I just think if you disagree with something, the least you can do is give a reason for it. ;)
I think he was trying to be funny
possible woooosh...?
Spike did a great job commenting. I’ve never seen an smg run and he explained stuff really well and was very entertaining to listen to

Spike is great at commentating in general. He ran dktf and was commentating while running, even on the other person he was racing against lol
skierpage haha so true, relatable comment right here
catapulting into a star off a penguin's belly by throwing a shell at him at 1:05:20 is one of the funniest optimizations I've ever seen
Nothing like watching a game from your childhood, eating snacks and drinking soda, on your spring break, not a care in the world. I love tonight
I hope you’re still having a good one random internet person
Incredible how good this game still looks. I mean the Wii wasn't the power-console anyway, but damn those graphics did age really nicely.
Skyfox94 It's 480p as well
Skyfox94 I know it said Wii as the platform, but I was like is this dolphin?
Skyfox94
Goes to show how cartoony games never seem to age. Just look at Yoshi's Island.
Skyfox94 pft, age? This game looks better than Odyssey.
SacredYinZekrom i’d say just as good as odyssey.

"Announcer, whisper this line!"
"Oh, I guess I wasn't supposed to read that part."
"I'm really bad at this."
this was funny af
I love when they go off script and just goof.
That guy is so lovable
"he runs basically everything but he isnt good at any of them" ABSOLUTE MADMAN

Clezar Z indeed
Very true. So much variety in the levels, music is great, movement is fun...
Looking forward to a remake in an Odyssey engine, at least that's what I think the plan is?
13 now
Ha, only 11
Shenanigans on the couch of a Mario run. A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.

I really only watch KH and then just randomly clicked this one I can never escape spike lmao
1:02:45 best level in the entire game, when i played this casually i would just spend hours playing in the beach worlds
Miranda J totally agree. I sometimes just booted up my Wii just to play that level. I've spend hours just swimming with the shell because it was so relaxing.
yessssss
Starshine Beach from Galaxy 2 is my favorite beach level.
I thought the vines were a lot of fun to play with xd
Same
I blame 360 for my lack of sleep. I’m insanely tired but then I’m like “Oh, a 2 and a half hour speed run by chrism. I can watch that instead of sleeping”
Buttercup yup
Can’t believe this game came out in 07. What a gorgeous game with a fantastic OST.
I am addicted to Mario speedruns
"Mario wouldn't get lost, right?"
*jumpcut to Luigi's Mansion*
he WAS talking about Mario is missing
@@mukilvarman7382 Guess Snivy didn't know about SNES games.
39:10 My god, that wedding story is so freaking cute!
Rosalina is the best character in the whole Mario universe. Her character is so sweet, and I can't imagine any other game that she would belong in.
Wow one of the cleanest runs this year... gg Chrism

whoa nice find man!
1:02:27 This is why Big Jon will always be my favorite announcer.
No one is freaking out about the 35,000 dollar donation? 2:13:55 like damn man
Jonah Dewing it is from a company...
I know that, you can hear that when they say the announcement on the fact that the money came from the selling of merchandise, but regardless, that is 1. Still a ridiculous amount of money, 2. Really good sales as well to be able to donate so much of that money to GDQ.

@@jonahdewing6919 wdym everyone cheered for it when they announced that donation

Don't mess with my childhood, bro
This is one of the best runs I’ve seen on this channel. Couch is informative. It’s just fun to watch.
The narrator's voice is just pure bliss.
TheLegendOfJoey IKR I hope he has a Twitch or UA-cam channel
Spikevegeta or the other guy?
Joshua Lioi I think he’s talking about the guy reading the donations.
Oh I see . I forget his name but he was on during the mega Man runs.
He is BigJon06, known as gamej06 on Twitch :)
Yo, why does Galaxy's OST slap so hard? Like, they didn't have to go that hard (luckily they did tho)
Best theme is the theme that plays during the storybook, that almost had me in tears
Did you know the soundtrack was originally planned to be like electro-sci fi themed sounds? It wasn’t until Koji Kondo or someone weote a test track in this style that it was decided to stick with it (best musical decision Nintendo has made tbh).
2:18:01 Did Luigi really just dab?!
Shiiiiieeettt didnt notice !!
What have you done

weegee galaxy
Just go into speedrunning and im hooked
Addictive isn't it eh?
I like how he used the English version since it only saves a minute or so in Japanese for us who don't care too much for seeing text we can't even read.
To be fair, in speedruns you're generally mashing through text so you can't read most of it anyways.
I love that announcer voice man, and hearing it to explain things makes it so much better !
Came here didn’t think I would watch the whole thing but I was so entertained good jon
fun to rewatch this every once in a while.
I played this game so much as a child. To the point where could clear the first two domes with all the stars and comets game with ease. I’d also try some tiny skips I found online like the Megaleg first planet skip. Seeing this game run is inspiring me to try the skips for myself.
really nice run, a very skilled player and great commentary
God my boy Chrism and Spike oh hell yeah 👌👌
2:05:15 The maximum number of stars you can have before Bowser 2, is 68.
So yes, you can have 60+ stars before Bowser 2.
I don't know about anyone else....... But the spring suit is my favorite power-up
It's mine too. So satisfying when you get the timing right ^^
Goat, I thought I was good completing this in a DAY. Amazing, Chrism!
I’m so glad to see people still running this. Nice run Chrism!!
This game has one of the best stories and soundtrack.
Spike’s voice is the best
spike and chrism are great together
"Haha, you're German..."
I don't know why but this made me laugh a bit XD

I never realized that the sound effect you get when grabbing a new item is the same sound effect when you upgrade the Odyssey in Super Mario Odyssey.
Hands down my favourite Mario game! Really neat skips too by the way.
I think the red guy by the couch is the best wingman/commentator ever :D! Props to him!
I love this Charity Events, I can't be there but I want to :(

With the differences between Luigi and Mario in this run, for a bot with perfect inputs, which would be faster using the current routes?
2 years late but: Luigi. His higher jump makes way for skips that aren't possible with Mario
