This is the first GDQ VOD I’ve watched in full! It was a great video to put on the background while I worked at my shop. I’m glad to have found this channel!
Fantastic run and amazing commentary! As someone who grew up with this game and beat it several times, watching this speedrun was extremely enjoyable! Great job on the run!
I'm enjoying this run and seeing an old game done expertly, but I'd love if we could move away from assuming developers "forgot" or "didn't realize" some obvious thing when players find and exploit a bug. Video games are immensely complicated to make; stuff gets left knowingly, intentionally imperfect for budget or deadlines. Plus, half of the target audience was probably under 13 and would never find these. A bit more respect for the folks who make these games we love? Now text mashing weirdness is super annoying; I'll give you that.
I'm the person who did this run, and I randomly came back to this video to look for a funny clip. saw this comment and just wanted to say that it's a really interesting thought. most of the time when I say that the developers "forgot" something obvious it's for the sake of humor and hyperbole; I definitely don't sincerely mean that they forgot you can jump (would be a bit crazy to assert that if I did LMAO) however you are right that a lot of what speedrunners and other "hardcore" gamers say can be unintentionally dismissive of the hard work developers put into their games. I love this game and I'm sure it wouldn't be nearly as good if there wasn't hard work put into it from any angle. compared to a lot of games, this one is actually relatively devoid of the kinds of glitches and jank that can make casual playthroughs frustrating - something I've praised it for time and time again in the past. it's the reason I think it still holds up as a good casual experience in the world of modern gaming. this is an old comment, I know, but I just wanted to respond because I found what you had to say quite thought-provoking. it made me think about how I will speak about games and their developers in the future, as I'm someone who generally advocates AGAINST trash-talking developers. regardless, I'm glad you were enjoying the run! text mashing makes me want to throw my controllers out the window.

no comments yet o.o? *makes a comment* ... there, a comment @w@.
Mario games aren't kids games. They're everyone games. If you want to see Nintendo's idea of a kids game, play Kirby. :)
