Until I started using flax oil I had a rash on the my legs and the back my arms. I also had a raised lump on my nose which was bleeding around the edges that disappeared also.
I read many years ago that flaxseeds should be lightly toasted (300 degrees F for about 10 min. or less) to neutralize a toxin they have which is bad for the liver, so I've always toasted mine before grinding them.
+Iluv Merengue I did a search and found out the toxin is called thio-cyanate and it's a cyanide compound that is neutralized with cooking. So those who use it regularly should definitely toast it first, if done right it won't affect the oil.
I usually boil flaxseed to make the gel for my hair. Do you recommend later drying the seeds in an oven and then grinding them to use as flour for my keto diet?
Apparently the better option would be organic sprouted and grounded flax seeds which can also be kept in the food closet up to 2 years and can give you from 600 to 900 percent more nutritive value.
Thank you Heather nice video & informative! I just finishing grinding can't wait til Tommy to put some on my cereal! Thank you again for your links as well.
Very good video... I start eating Flax seed and Chia seed since 2 month ago....i was looking a video that explains how to grind them, I have been using a kitchen mortar but that is not the easi way. additional comment, both seeds have similar great benefits... beside the benefits of the Omega 3 both can be use algo to avoide high peak of glucose when you eat carbs ...and somethong important to mention is that when you eat the sees as very good source of high fiber we need to drink a sufficient of water or maybe other liquid. Thanks for sharing your video.
Thank you for sharing video... Really enjoyed it... Informative & Concise... Exactly what I needed... I'm already eating chia seeds so I'm going to start taking flaxseeds too... I think Ninja Foodi Power Blender Process System just bought comes with an additional container which you showed ( twister jar : which never had need for before now ) Can I take all three: chia, flax & hemp together every day?
I got 3 coffee grinder ! One for just coffee every other day and one for my saffron’s and the other one for anything’s else need to be chopped , and I have big cousin art chopper for herbs and vegetables and small one for every day Onion, garlic , All of them are very useful for me 😏
What about phytic acid in the unsoaked or unsprouted flax seeds?Phytic acid combines with elements like iron and zinc and prevents the body from absorbing them.

3 tablespoons of ground Flax in my smoothies each morning. i love flax and the smell and freshly ground is divine. Also they have way more lignans than any other food (well they don't have any but your gut bacteria makes crap tons of lignans from Flax). It's such an insanely nutritious food and everyone should eat Flax. It's cheap and super-duper healthy (plus they actually taste awesome!).
Evil? Oh Grim Reaper, nameth that which hath smote ye to malign the doctor so? (Quote: After all, How Not to Die is now being used as a textbook at graduate public health and medical schools!).
Plain. The utility of roasting is that they make seeds more digestible. But, if you're grinding, then you don't need that. And, at any rate, roasting will destroy some of the nutrients.
If you blend seeds with smoothie that has liquids, it's highly probably the seeds are not being grounded as they're so tiny & small, they're simply passing by blades in liquid & barely being touched by blades... Just thought...
@Blue Dynamite Thanks That's Very Good Idea & Suggestion... However, I Abandon Idea of Using Flaxseeds & Threw Bag Away... I Have So Many Other Foods, Nutrients, Vitamins, Supplements, Proteins, BCAA, Etc.. That Whatever Benefit Flaxseeds Would Provide Would Be Negligible or Minute ( Minut, my-NOOT ) at Best... Thanks Again For Time & Interest To Respond & Share... Truly Appreciate It...
Im confused now. Another youtube guy - Alan Mandell, D.C. - He insinuated/suggested/said something to the affect that you want MORE Omega-3 than Omega-6, and it sounded to me like you said the opposite 🤔
+Beth Grant-DeRoos Better to put the freshly ground meal in the freezer- won't freeze but will be preserved far better than the fridge. Even then, better to use within a few days after deactivating the phytates.
So now we know your secret the reason why you look gorgeous. You should join the *gorgeous people group* that I'm going to start very soon. Keep eating healthy you look fantastic!!
Every day, amongst other things I make up a glass of: 2 T freshly ground flax seeds 2 T Chia seeds 1/2 t cocoa powder 1/2 t thyme 1/2 t oregano 2 or 3 cloves 1/2 t rosemary 2 T apple cider vinegar with mother 1 T raw honey juice of one lemon or lime water to fill the 16 oz glass AND I swill it down. I don't like it, but I drink it. I also do Golden milk with freshly ground black pepper and coconut oil I don't mind dying of a heart attack, but do not want a stroke. Hope this stuff is doing something good along those lines.
I have a health issue at this time with too much calcium in my blood so I must stay away from Chia seeds. Has flax seeds too got a high calcium content?? Please advise. Thank you!
Ratios are one value related to another value. So could you please help me understand the stated ratios provided? You are providing one number. For example, "a normal ration would be somewhere around 6 or 7 and a standard American's diet is somewhere around 14, 15, even 16" does not provide a ratio. You did give a 4 to 1 ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3. So I am guessing that you meant the standard American's diet is around 14 - 16 to 1??? But then I am not understanding a normal of 6 or 7 when the ratio provided is 4 to 1.
+c Roy Not Heather here, but yeah you can. No problem, especially if you eat other nuts and seeds or oils or animal fats (all of which are high in omega 6). Only one I've heard of who had probs with too much Om3 in proportion to Om6 was Udo Erasmus ("Fats That Kill, Fats That Cure") who used large amts of flax oil for many months and had no substantial source of Om6 fat. A rare occurrence in a normal diet.
I'm new to flax seed. But other videos have said you need to eat The seed with in a few minutes after grinding. Is there a reason other than you said it'll go rancid in a hurry ? One video said to have them ingested by 15 minutes after grinding.
I want that Blender. You should put a link in the description (get an Amazon affiliate account). Might have to disagree with you on the w-6:w-3 ratio. But either way the average modern diet has way too much w-6.
To avoid getting. "Flaxbutter", blend flax seeds with instant potatoes (or rolled oats). NO WATER! 1 scoop of flax seeds to 2 scoops of instant potatoes seems to work.
Hey, That's great idea... Thanks for suggestion... I've never ground seeds before so I can imagine what you said about becoming butter texture... Thanks again...
Thomas Paulson too late I threw them :(( and then when I tried to ground new ones to put then in the fridge something happened I noticed that they smelled really badly.. so I thought maybe the grounder is the problem so I washed it and threw the second patch.. and made a third patch and guess what it still smelled really horrible unlike the first path "the two days old on the shelf one" ummm so now I don't know what seeds should I buy next.. chia or flax?... I wish I could buy hemp seeds but I didn't find it in any store in my city :/ so can u help me chia or flax??
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you work in a job that requires random drug testing, do not consume hemp seeds. Your drug test will test positive for marijuana use and you may terminated.
Chia seeds swell 9x there weight in water. do not eat them unless unless they have been soaked. they can dehydrate you. flaxseed has the hard shell and will not swell. kinda like a walnut shell has to be cracked up for the nut inside. that is why u grind them.
Ground flax actually goes bad/rancid 15 minutes after grinding. So you need to grind and consume within 15 minutes. Cannot store it even for an hour. It is bad for you at that point.
I love it that you talked about the three popular FLAX, CHIA, HEMP.
THANKS!
Until I started using flax oil I had a rash on the my legs and the back my arms. I also had a raised lump on my nose which was bleeding around the edges that disappeared also.
I think you would be better off using flax seeds rather than oil. Seeds have far more nutrients and cost next to nothing!
I live the fact that she demonstrated rather than talking about it. I think bi am going to roas mine and then grind it
I never had a meal with flax seeds... but I better start to take more care about my health... so informative... thank so much... God Bless you
Thanks for the info. Knowledge is golden.
I use my coffee grinder it does a great job
Where do you get a coffee grinder?
@@Someguyto amazon
"Herb" grinder too
Always enjoy your videos. Nice presentation. Such good advice, and very clear.
***** thanks! glad they're helpful :)

I just ground some in a Tribest personal blender with a mason jar attachment.
Thank you Heather!
What's better sprouts or grind seeds?
Great advice. A spoon 🥄 full of mulled flaxseed a day is the way to go people.

Hi Heather Gil Carvalo (PhD) says cthe science indicates flax can be safely stored for up to 4 months???

Hi Heather, great video. Nice delivery. Where is the link for the Blendtech discount? Thanks
Hi,
Can you tell me whether I should buy plain or roasted flax seeds. Which ones are better between these two?
Plain. The utility of roasting is that they make seeds more digestible. But, if you're grinding, then you don't need that. And, at any rate, roasting will destroy some of the nutrients.
I just add the flax seeds whole to my vitamix and it never fails to blend them with my smoothie. Thought a blendtec would do that as well.
If you blend seeds with smoothie that has liquids, it's highly probably the seeds are not being grounded as they're so tiny & small, they're simply passing by blades in liquid & barely being touched by blades...

Is it important to refrigerate unopened bag flax seeds or just after you opened them
I sprinkle chia seeds on my peanut butter and sliced apple and banana on toast every morning but don't soak them first. Should I?
zigzag I wondered/wonder about the same thing
Im confused now. Another youtube guy - Alan Mandell, D.C. - He insinuated/suggested/said something to the affect that you want MORE Omega-3 than Omega-6, and it sounded to me like you said the opposite 🤔
I store my flax seed in the refrigerator so the oil in the seed doesn't go bad. Just ordered a Vitamix.
Beth Grant-DeRoos perfect :)
+Beth Grant-DeRoos Better to put the freshly ground meal in the freezer- won't freeze but will be preserved far better than the fridge. Even then, better to use within a few days after deactivating the phytates.
Hello, how long can you keep ground flax in the freezer? I bought a whole bag of ground flax seeds and it'll take me months to finish it.
Thomas Favre I have had flax seed, whole coffee beans in the freezer for a year with no issues. Being high oil items I don't want them to go rancid.
Beth Grant-DeRoos Thank you, I'm wondering if the fact that my flax seeds are ground makes any difference in the shelf life.
So now we know your secret the reason why you look gorgeous.

Doesn't Fax and coffee go good together?
Great presentation, very detailed, while getting too the point.😂

The Blendtec link doesn't work anymore - can you resend a good link for what you [still] use? Awesome!

Lol I'm grinding my seeds in my blender. I'm sick of whole seeds in my poop.

Brilliant video. Thanks.

about a week or 2
Very helpful thx!
thanks for all that information.
Can I mix two tea spoons of grinded flax seed powder and take it daily ?
Can I just use my Vitamix with no special attachment? How many seconds?
Please make a video about how to wash flax seeds.
@A E because its hard to wash them. they have chemicals on them though.
I'm new to flax seed. But other videos have said you need to eat The seed with in a few minutes after grinding. Is there a reason other than you said it'll go rancid in a hurry ? One video said to have them ingested by 15 minutes after grinding.
Good video. Thank you.
Can I add this to my water?
Once ground, consume within 1 hour to get the most nutrients from the Flax/Linseed.
Um, sources?
is it correct that people with blood group B+ should not eat flax seeds
Is it roasted or unroasted flexseed
Can they be consumed with hot milk?
I want that Blender. You should put a link in the description (get an Amazon affiliate account).
Might have to disagree with you on the w-6:w-3 ratio. But either way the average modern diet has way too much w-6.
Hemp seed is nog a part of de plant it is de seed of the plant and jou used the peelde seed
the action of saliva interacting with chewed flax would be even better and more assimilation into cells, blood. I chew mine, no problem.
How do you get ground flax seeds past your mouth and into your stomach without going through your saliva?
Great video sister thx
I have a blendtec and I had flax seeds now I know what to do with them. I will be putting the flax meal in my first meal🤣
I've had four magic bullets and each time eventually something leaks. When it does, it leaks down into the motor and there is no way to get that out.
I shall give that one a miss then!
I'll NEVER get one of those with the blades at the bottom. I like to put them in from the top
To avoid getting. "Flaxbutter", blend flax seeds with instant potatoes (or rolled oats). NO WATER! 1 scoop of flax seeds to 2 scoops of instant potatoes seems to work.
Hey,

great info thank you
For my 8 month baby how to prepare this flaxseed do I need to roast it?

Thomas Paulson
too late I threw them :((
and then when I tried to ground new ones to put then in the fridge something happened
I noticed that they smelled really badly.. so I thought maybe the grounder is the problem so I washed it and threw the second patch.. and made a third patch and guess what
it still smelled really horrible unlike the first path "the two days old on the shelf one"

You cannot.
most flex run runs run 🏃 and run 🏃 🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃
From your teeth ha ha ha
Thanks for the info. :)
Why not grind chia seeds or soak flax?
Chia seeds swell 9x there weight in water. do not eat them unless unless they have been soaked. they can dehydrate you.
flaxseed has the hard shell and will not swell. kinda like a walnut shell has to be cracked up for the nut inside. that is why u grind them.
Do I need to add to hot or warm food?
Irrelevant. I use it on my cold overnight oatmeal with other seeds for more minerals.
Good
