    Until I started using flax oil I had a rash on the my legs and the back my arms. I also had a raised lump on my nose which was bleeding around the edges that disappeared also.

      I think you would be better off using flax seeds rather than oil. Seeds have far more nutrients and cost next to nothing!

    I read many years ago that flaxseeds should be lightly toasted (300 degrees F for about 10 min. or less) to neutralize a toxin they have which is bad for the liver, so I've always toasted mine before grinding them.

    • @latinainwpb
      @latinainwpb 8 років тому +2

      +Iluv Merengue I did a search and found out the toxin is called thio-cyanate and it's a cyanide compound that is neutralized with cooking. So those who use it regularly should definitely toast it first, if done right it won't affect the oil.

    I usually boil flaxseed to make the gel for my hair. Do you recommend later drying the seeds in an oven and then grinding them to use as flour for my keto diet?

  • @giuseppe-accordion
    @giuseppe-accordion 8 років тому +1

    Apparently the better option would be organic sprouted and grounded flax seeds which can also be kept in the food closet up to 2 years and can give you from 600 to 900 percent more nutritive value.

    Very good video... I start eating Flax seed and Chia seed since 2 month ago....i was looking a video that explains how to grind them, I have been using a kitchen mortar but that is not the easi way. additional comment, both seeds have similar great benefits... beside the benefits of the Omega 3 both can be use algo to avoide high peak of glucose when you eat carbs ...and somethong important to mention is that when you eat the sees as very good source of high fiber we need to drink a sufficient of water or maybe other liquid. Thanks for sharing your video.

    What about phytic acid in the unsoaked or unsprouted flax seeds?Phytic acid combines with elements like iron and zinc and prevents the body from absorbing them.

  •  8 років тому

    3 tablespoons of ground Flax in my smoothies each morning. i love flax and the smell and freshly ground is divine. Also they have way more lignans than any other food (well they don't have any but your gut bacteria makes crap tons of lignans from Flax). It's such an insanely nutritious food and everyone should eat Flax. It's cheap and super-duper healthy (plus they actually taste awesome!).

    Hi,
    Can you tell me whether I should buy plain or roasted flax seeds. Which ones are better between these two?

    • @icowrich
      @icowrich 3 роки тому

      Plain. The utility of roasting is that they make seeds more digestible. But, if you're grinding, then you don't need that. And, at any rate, roasting will destroy some of the nutrients.

    I just add the flax seeds whole to my vitamix and it never fails to blend them with my smoothie. Thought a blendtec would do that as well.

    • @Thankful_n_Grateful
      @Thankful_n_Grateful 2 роки тому

      If you blend seeds with smoothie that has liquids, it's highly probably the seeds are not being grounded as they're so tiny & small, they're simply passing by blades in liquid & barely being touched by blades...
      Just thought...

      However,
      I Abandon Idea of Using Flaxseeds & Threw Bag Away...
      I Have So Many Other Foods, Nutrients, Vitamins, Supplements, Proteins, BCAA, Etc..
      That Whatever Benefit Flaxseeds Would Provide Would Be Negligible or Minute ( Minut, my-NOOT ) at Best...

    Every day, amongst other things I make up a glass of:
    2 T freshly ground flax seeds
    2 T Chia seeds
    1/2 t cocoa powder
    1/2 t thyme
    1/2 t oregano
    2 or 3 cloves
    1/2 t rosemary
    2 T apple cider vinegar with mother
    1 T raw honey
    juice of one lemon or lime
    water to fill the 16 oz glass
    AND I swill it down. I don't like it, but I drink it.
    I also do Golden milk with freshly ground black pepper and coconut oil
    I don't mind dying of a heart attack, but do not want a stroke.
    Hope this stuff is doing something good along those lines.

    Ratios are one value related to another value. So could you please help me understand the stated ratios provided? You are providing one number. For example, "a normal ration would be somewhere around 6 or 7 and a standard American's diet is somewhere around 14, 15, even 16" does not provide a ratio. You did give a 4 to 1 ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3. So I am guessing that you meant the standard American's diet is around 14 - 16 to 1??? But then I am not understanding a normal of 6 or 7 when the ratio provided is 4 to 1.

      +c Roy Not Heather here, but yeah you can. No problem, especially if you eat other nuts and seeds or oils or animal fats (all of which are high in omega 6). Only one I've heard of who had probs with too much Om3 in proportion to Om6 was Udo Erasmus ("Fats That Kill, Fats That Cure") who used large amts of flax oil for many months and had no substantial source of Om6 fat. A rare occurrence in a normal diet.

      Chia seeds swell 9x there weight in water. do not eat them unless unless they have been soaked. they can dehydrate you.
      flaxseed has the hard shell and will not swell. kinda like a walnut shell has to be cracked up for the nut inside. that is why u grind them.

    Ground flax actually goes bad/rancid 15 minutes after grinding. So you need to grind and consume within 15 minutes. Cannot store it even for an hour. It is bad for you at that point.
