It all sounded so positive and then you said "but it is not the end-product we want" - that one is only found in fish oils. When I use it I have small mains electricity driven "grinder" and grind it "on the spot" with other seeds (inc sunflower, pumpkin) and consume it immediately its ground. I shall continue to do that. For "oily fish" I eat sardines.

Good day, Dr. Ekberg! To obtain EPA/DHA for omega 3's, I was given information by a professional that 2 tblsp of ground flaxseed is all I need to take to get the omega 3's I require. As you do, I also buy them whole & will ground them, but only a week's worth at a time to put 2 tblsp on my cooked steel cut oats for breakfast. I freeze the whole seeds. Thanks for the great information & Cheers!

We have been using flax for about 5 years now. We started with flax oil supplements and now we use milled flaxseed. I mix my ground flax with almond and or cashew milk and raisins. I use 1.5 to 2.0 tablespoons of flax meal, two ounces of plant based milk and 1+ ounces of raisins.
Unopened bags of ground flaxseed go in the freezer while open bags go into the refrigerator. And though flaxseeds are highly sensitive you do not need to freeze your open bags. They last for a few months in the fridge and at least a year in the freezer. We've even left the bag out over night on the kitchen counter and never ran into any issue(s)...
I suggest giving your bag a whiff/smell every now and then to see if it's started going rancid. I have never smelled rancid flaxseed/meal and we've gone through at least 50 one or two pound bags.
The omega 3 to 6 ratio in flaxseeds is about 3.75 to 1. Threes to sixes. This is an awesome ratio although flax should be used to 'balance' your omegas somewhere in the 1-1 or maybe 2-1 ratio. Don't worry, you'll automatically be consuming more 6's in your daily diet, hence the balancing action of flaxseed.
If you are a vegan, you need not worry about the conversion of ALA (

While brands sell oil as concentrated oil for better benefit than seed. But you letting us know that oil is not in form of DHA which our body needs to digest...
This essentially means it is much better to eat powder flaxseed freshly grounded than oil capsules.

I got so sick of eggs and meat on Atkins and the thought of doing a low carb diet again almost makes my stomach turn. I'm hoping the I.F. will work for me (I've been on it for 3 days and am now at 3/21 without a problem). I know this isn't what you recommend but I'm wondering if I can still eat the carbs I've been consuming (whole grains, sweet potatoes, fruit, etc.) and do okay. I've been making green juices that are mostly greens, celery, and cucumbers and some fruit to make it drinkable. I run the pulp through 3 times to get out as much as possible and have put it into my homemade whole wheat and rye breads. I make fruit smoothies with frozen fruit, ground flax seed, nutritional yeast, coconut oil, etc., etc., but I not very often. (Once a week or less.)
There is so much conflicting advice out there and I don't know what to do. I figure I.F. is good because it's the most conservative (except for lots of meat and eggs). I don't have any problem with eating eggs and meat but I'm just so tired of them.

I've had tremendous luck with the flax oil as it has improved my skin, such as diminishing the appearance of age spots/freckles. So I assume it is also doing wonders within my body.

Years ago my doctor prescribed me fenofibrate to lower triglycerides, which were extremely high due to daily drinking. She would not allow the generic brand and I couldn't afford it. She also prescribed fish oil pills which I wouldn't take as I was vegan then, and some statin drug as well. I also refuse to take statins. So I got flaxseed oil pills and took them instead. Next visit, the tests showed great improvement. She was surprised at how good the prescriptions were working. I still drank through all this, and it was the flaxseed pills that lowered it tremendously. If you take lots of flax it makes your skin oily, otherwise no side effects. So I recommend it for anyone wanting to clean out their arteries.

Well I recently brought grounded flaxseed and flaxseed oil from Whole Foods. They had the oil preserved in the cooler and the grounds seeds on the shelf. I mix the seeds in my cashew yogurt and sometimes I just take a tablespoon on the oil. I feel they work really well. My skin looks amazing and I’m going more regularly. I was suffering from constipation and it’s helped alleviate that issue. Also you can use flax in place of egg and butter so after heating it is useless?

The oil seems to be working on the numbness in my foot. I don't wholly agree on what this man says about the oil. Flaxseed oil has the highest ratio of omega 3 per milligram than anything.

@@Noor-jw2tn flax has the ALA form of omega 3 as opposed to DHA or EPA, which does take longer to process to get all of the omega 3 benefits, _but_ ALA specifically is known to help mitochondrial repair with adequate D3, B12 and B6 levels, potentially healing nerve damage even without going through the process.
