- Google's Find My Device uses an encrypted, crowdsourced network of other Android devices to help you find lost items like Bluetooth trackers, phones and headphones. But the network rollout has been slow and confusing, especially because the default settings make it harder to find your lost items. Change these settings so it works more like Apple's Find My network.

I have both an Apple Airtag and Samsung Smart Tag 2. I will admit the airtag works a little better. When tracking it tracks while the airtag is moving while the Smart Tag does not. I can find the smart tag but it doesn't track while moving.
On the other hand I recently took a flight from California to Colorado and put both trackers in my luggage. One of my bags was left behind to take the next flight. Both trackers located my luggage in California but once my luggage was in flight to Colorado I was able to track my luggage on the plane. I was able to track it once it was flying over Utah.
The reason why Samsung does that is because Samsung unlike Apple doesn't want people tracking you in real time you idiot 😂
Really sad to see that google is fumbling this opportunity.
I really hope they change the settings to what apple has.
Complete Support of the network or not at all and the standard being complete support.
Cause at the moment the settings are just too complicated, even though I am a complete Android Fan.
I really need a tracker for my luggage as I am travelling a lot and as a I got an android, there are not really much options.
My idea was to buy a third party tracker working with the apple find my network, so as long as i got internet i can see the tracker in the third party app on my android and track it down with that and it uses the apple network for locating, what you guys think?

@@superiortoall22while that is true Samsung is the most popular Android manufacturer. Being that Google's Find My network is opt in by choice that means it's much smaller than Samsung's network. Ironically Google could just force everyone to opt in. It's mind boggling that they don't.
Totally google fault find my device network is still currently pants, lack of update sent out to majority of android ohones & the choice of not work in all traffic areas as default was awful idea.

We really surprised? Most Android phones cant even get proper updates on time. Motorola RAZR from last year is still running Android 13, my OnePlus Open didnt get Android 14 til like June and those are major updates. Patches and features like this will roll out super slow, some phone models wont have the feature til like next year... Maybe.
i am on android 12 but i got the find my device feature, first i got a mail by google then a week later i got a notification on the phone that the find my device network is now available and active in my phone.
Considering the features works on Android 9, I’m not surprised at all

@@richardc5100 security patches are only supported 2 years after the last major update, then the apple product is deemed obsolete. After that Apple will not issue regular security patches unless a major security risk has come to light. Apple used to be the only vendor supporting their devices for this long but now samsung, fair phone, google have caught up and they all promise 7-8 years of major updates.
Ive got 21 se and it got android 14 in February. Not the best but they are updating it pretty frequently
Hopefully it will work better outside of the US because Android is most used in the rest of the world

The “for now” in the title is such a sweet optimism filled message for a company whose home work was done by Apple years ago and simply had to replicate it (because that’s what they’re best at) but still failed.
They had the already perfect thing to compare and improve their crap but still couldn’t “yet”.

Android really is more quantity than quality
This is the problem with android and always has been.
They are super inconsistent across products and manufacturers.
You buy an iphone and an airtag, and itll just work.
You buy a samsung and a smarttag and it just kinda doesnt.

Well Samsung has their release event on July 10th and they are going to announce the Galaxy Ring and if we lose that, there has to be a better way to find it outside of Samsung find my device so maybe they will announce something that works with Google? I doubt it but maybe. 🤞🏻

apple is for tech dumb people though. Everyone i know with an apple can't talk to me about tech. And They get pissed off when i show them i can turn any mp3 into a ringtone and customize anything i'd want. They are these type of people that still thinks the phone you lug around makes you cool. They regurgitate specs from their phones without even understanding what it is, then when you correct them all they say is "Apple sheep". They spend $1000+ on phones that don't get OS support past 2 years because it has a headphone jack or because it has RGB built to the back. From the outside looking in, y'all are about the same amount of stupid.
I'll be surprised if Google doesn't announce they are no longer supporting the find my device technology.

Google find my device failed me when my pixel 7 pro got stolen out of my car. I also reported it stolen and blocked the imei but later found out that was removed within a few weeks. Never again with GOOGLE
