He kept us waiting, huh. David's using a mix of his normal speaking voice and with a bit of the gruffness of his era of Snake. Haven't seen him do VO for a while.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a role-playing video game developed and published by Sega. It is the eighth main release in the Yakuza series, and was released in Japan and Asia for PlayStation 4 on January 16, 2020. It had a worldwide release on November 10, 2020 for Microsoft Windows (Japan, East and Southeast Asia excluded, without an official reason given by Sega), PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S; the latter being released with the game as a launch title. A version with the subtitle International[b] was released in Japan and Asia on February 25, 2021 for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Windows 10, and on March 2, 2021 for the PlayStation 5; the latter releasing worldwide on the same date.
In contrast to the previous Yakuza games that focused on the life of Kazuma Kiryu, a man trying to lead a normal life following his removal from the Tojo Clan, this game instead introduces a new protagonist named Ichiban Kasuga. After being imprisoned for 18 years only to then be betrayed by his former boss, Ichiban goes on a personal quest to become a hero and uncover the reason for his betrayal alongside other playable characters. The game offers both Japanese and English audio to the player.

I really like how the English dub makes it feel like I'm watching something else even though it's the same game.

That's kind of impressive actually - he is *not* doing Snake. Like at all, whatsoever. If I didn't read up on IMDb that he was voicing a bartender in Yakuza 7 I'd probably not even recognize him. Same as I completely didn't recognize Quinton Flynn as Vorkken in The Wonderful 101 - these actors actually have range. Remember how people thought otherwise when MGS4 came out and they called Hayter's Old Snake really badly voiced or something ? Yeah, what a bunch of jokers.
David does have range. One other voice actor was Nolan North in The Last of Us.
He's still got the ''Snake growl'' in his voice. It sounds like he's trying to suppress it a little.

Those two actors have such a wholesome bond. You can see a lot of content of them together on the youtubes. In the MMO Star Wars The Old Republic (SWTOR) if you choose to play as a male with the Jedi Knight class the very first conversation you have is between Solid and Liquid, with Hayter being casted as the voice of the player character. The speech of male jedi knight sounded neither like Snake or Kashiwagi but you can hear the Hayter if you already know to listen for it.
While his voice is a little bit younger, but I like David Hayter’s performance more than John DiMaggio.
I didn't know David Hayter was in the game.
