The G Cloud actually brought me to the retro handheld scene. I got it to have a "dedicated" Xbox streaming device (sister to the PS Portal), and caught that another benefit is that it can emulate retro consoles well. So I tried that out and have been hooked ever since. I only need/want to emulate up to GameCube and she handles that well, at least those games that I want and can't get elsewhere. That being said, there are lots of great little devices and I can't stop buying new ones. With all the RG35XX H love here, I will have to pick that up. The Odin 2 is bit pricey for us Canadians, so I'll hold off a bit.
Loving the Retro Round Tables! My go to devices at the moment will have to be: - the Miyoo Mini v4 / Miyoo Mini Plus for easier Retro Gaming - the AYN Odin 2 Pro for GameCube/Wii/PS2 Emulation
I would say the miyoo mini plus with OnionOS, my retroid pocket flip (rip to them no longer being made), and my Anbernic RG405M. I enjoy playing games on these devices. I love my Miyoo Mini Plus and I've sunk in like 8hrs into the The Sims 2 GBA on it. I also have the RG Nano as well and I love how aesthetic it looks. I'm wanting to get the Odin 2 Mini because of the Vita like design and the white Odin 2 Mini is also iconic. I also have a PS Vita Slim & I play a lot of games on that. Thanks for the fun video tech dweeb. I appreciate it. ❤
If you want an "almost all-in-one" cheap device, the Retroid Pocket 2 S is the to-go device: it is still the best price-value device you can get in the handheld emulation devices world ✨
My indigo Retroid Pocket 2S is definitely my favorite. It has so much power for the price. Super easy to connect a controller and hook it up to basically any tv. I put a big SD card in mine and stopped taking my MacBook on trips. Also if there’s anything wrong with your roms or something, it’s android so you can fix that on the fly within the device.
After watching review videos from like all you guys for the past year, the phawx recently made me realize I had analysis paralysis, so I finally just said f it and I got a miyoo mini+ a couple weeks ago, and I am loving it so much wish I wouldn't have waited so long
The Retroid Pocket4 Pro is my favorite handheld for gaming. If I want something really compact and powerful that I can haphazardly toss around in my bag, the RG35XXSP is my go to. At home I spend most of my time on a mini PC running Batocera. I love Batocera.
Surprised how little Odin 2 love there is here. I've got like 10 of these handhelds but once I got a do everything handheld, I never touch my other ones anymore.
For on-the-go I absolutely love my PowKiddy RGB30, have it filled with everything from Dreamcast/PS1 to Atari 2600 games on there. When at home though I use my MacBook Pro (Intel 2019), primarily for old computers (Amiga, MS-DOS, ST, etc) and the more powerful consoles (PS2/PS3/Gamecube/Switch). It's super flexible and OpenEmu is a fantastic front-end for a lot of 8 to 64 bit systems. Shout-out to my old Anbernic RG35XX with MinUI as well. It was a super nice compact device I used a lot to play Sega-CD on until I upgraded to the RGB30.
This video round table was a wonderful idea and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I have 13 handhelds including my 3 different switches. My favorite is the one I am playing with at that moment. I try to rotate which one I am playing with. I often take my Anbernic nano when I’m going somewhere and know I’ll have about 15-30 minutes of playtime. I’m 65 and the screen is a little small for my eyes but I enjoy it quite a bit. I’m in awe that this tiny device is cable of doing so much. Keep up your great channel. I liked seeing your retro cozy corned. Well done.
I’m really considering buying the Anbernic nano i’m afraid it’s just gonna be on the shelf but it’s super tempting it looks so cool but right now I’m sticking to the RG350m
At first, I got tripped up on the favorite retro device question too, Techdweeb is correct. it is not just handhelds. i have a vertical handheld that i hate , 353 v. i had a x55, but it kept crashing, even after firmware update so i returned it. i am saving up for a new horizontal handheld. but my main retro gaming is done on my BeeLink SER 5 max for now, eventually i will do some sort of video upgrade or just get a better pc. another gr8 vid Mr Tech Dweeb and everybody
Currently my go to devices for emulation have been the RG Cube and the miyoo mini V4. The cube because I love playing it at home for stuff like GameCube and PS2. And of course DS and 3DS has been a blast as well, still loving the experience and can't get enough of it. The Miyoo Mini for it's size and ease of use with Onion OS for when I leave the house for work or to wait in line when I'm getting an oil change for my car. Both these devices are my current favorites for emulation and I can see them staying that way for a very long time.
Nice vid! Looking forward to more like this 👍 My goto devices: >RG35XX Plus >RG405M >Android phone (SD865) with backbone/gamesir controller. It's difficult to buy/recommend handhelds for gcn emulation and above. A good phone (SD695 or better) and a detachable controller is the way 👌
My three favorites are, Steam Deck, Retroid Pocket 4 Pro and the Anbernic RG35XX Plus. These systems just work flawlessly for all my needs, look amazing and provide comfort for long gaming periods.
Surprisingly, my favourite is the RG Nano. I simply love that it's always by my side and that I always have an rpg game ready to go at any moment in any place. It's comforting to have my old games with me.
I ordered the rg35xx sp the second it was available online for purchase and have been loving it to bits since then. Thanks to your recommendation I have started experimenting with custom OS’s, because my tinkerer’s brain won’t leave me alone till I find the perfect one and just today I installed muOS and found that except bluetooth controller support it’s pretty much perfect and have been playing a lot of vice city thanks to the amazing people of portmaster!! I swear this handheld is only getting better with time. Thanks TD, would’t have jumped the gun without you :) I did try knulli per your recommendation which was nice visually, but wasn’t it for me really, but muOS is pretty seemless, not gonna lie!
My two are the Anbernic RG35XX SP, and the Asus ROG Ally X. I used to have the whole Anbernic line but after I got the Ally X I gifted most of my other handhelds. SP for all the retro stuff, and the Ally for the rest of it. Totally happy with them, even in one bag!
Recently my go-to is the Miyoo A30 due to it's micro size is easy to pick up and very portable (I got 2). Also, I love my MM+ 2 units too plus 35XX H and R36S I use them all at home + Anbernic RG505 + Desktop PC. Notebook for portable PC gaming.
I just recently got a purple R36s, new SD cards, newest community build of arkos, and custom boot/loading images. I love this little guy. It's now my dedicated Pokemon player for everything Pokemon up to DS. I've got no complaints for the $30 I spent on Aliexpress.
My daily drivers are the Odin Pro, Retriod Pocket 3 plus and RG405V. I love them ALL but the 405v feels like an underrated device that was a great anbernic one and is my personal fave.
Glad to see vlad here ❤. Great video. Edit : 12:03 let’s goo this is the answer. You may want a nice shiny handheld but you all already have a phone that your likely using to watch this video and if not your on a pc. Guess what… both of those devices have amazing screens and power capable of keeping the retro demons at bay 😅
I love my Odin2 and my RG35XXSP but when it comes down to it, the one I throw in my pocket the most, is still my RG353M. A wonderful device and it was my first as well. Always love your first.
Amazing video as usual. My go to devices lately have been the Anbernic RG35XX Plus and the Steam Deck. I take my Anbernic with me most places because it's so pocketable. The Steam Deck is obviously much better for higher end systems, but I don't take that with me as much because its so much bigger (and more expensive).
I just got a RG Cube. It's probably my dream machine right now. It can play ps2, gamecube and dreamcast. My favorite generation of video game console.I think that was peak gaming off all time. Despite its limitation everything was no holds barred. Truly a golden age never to be able to be reached ever again. Having those in the pocket is unimaginable back in those days.
Great video! I got the clone R36S for like $38 a while back and have really enjoying learning how huge and intricate the retro handheld hobby community is. I finally upgraded and ordered an Odin 2 Pro earlier this week. This video makes me think I made the right choice. Can’t wait to get it!
I love fighting games, so I recently bought a RG Arc-S. I can’t put this thing down. It has great battery and the button layout is great for arcade and retro systems. The only flaw is that CFW is very limited. For my high end emulation my Odin 2 pro is my go to.
Steam Deck is my overall first choice, even though it's on the large side and you can't fit it in your pocket. My second choice which is much more portable is the Vita, this is still amazing machine even at well over decade.
Love this video! Great job and funny! I really enjoy the Ambernic RG353ps. Feels like a snes controller with a screen. Never gives me problems too. If I want a bigger screen, I use the Powkiddy x55. Was problematic but much better now with Rocknix. I still want to explore the newer models but I’m waiting for something to come out that I can play GameCube and PS2 with that’s not soo pricey like the Odins.
I use a modern gaming PC for MAME emulation with a modified Honaho Hotrod SE (installed an IPAC2 and rewired all the buttons) arcade stick on my living room OLED TV. Portable wise, the Steam Deck does a pretty good job of retro gaming on the go . If I need to carry something smaller, my Retroid Pocket 3+ works in a pinch.
The GPDXD was incredible and for a long time felt like it was the only thing out there. Connecting it via mini HDMI felt so much like the future. It's still incredible and I would've still used it if it ran beyond Android version 4 or something.
For pocketable, take anywhere, it's the RG35XX H for me. For couch-playing, and a device that can handle just about anything, it's the Steam Deck. But the overall best device for me is my desktop PC. Playing on a my big 32" screen, listening to all the bleeps and bloops on real speakers is the way to go for me.
Anbernic RG351V is my most played overall, and in the past year it's been Analogue Pocket. I'm VERY Game Boy and SNES focused in my game play. I rarely touch anything else. So the Analogue screen is perfect for me. And the whole device is just so beautiful. I still prefer the feel of the 351v though.
Hi, currently owning the MMiyoo+ and the RGB30, my go to is the latter, 1:1 display and thumbstick are what makes the difference with MM+. That being said, I've also purchased the RG Cube , but didnt get the chance to boot it yet. Could become my next fav, who knows
I love seeing and hearing all these different gamers just talking and enjoying their different devices to play on. A great escape away from this crazy world. Handheld gaming for me has been pretty much nothing but my Odin 2 Max now. I've set it up in a way that it's not only the main console I'm using but it's become the main machine to use in multiple ways. For the emulators such as Retroarch I had this nifty idea. I have a controller for almost every emulator/core. Meaning I have a specific and exact more authentic controller for each and every emulator I use. A bunch of Brawler controllers, 8bitdo, retrobit, and more to round out the bluetooth and wireless variants. So, when I want to use the real controllers I use the Odin 2 Dock and that is hooked up to a really high end 4K Laser Projector, the NexiGo Aurora Pro, Ultra Short Throw. So with the CRT Shaders provided by RetroCrisis plus with my own tweaks it feels like I'm playing on a CRT but maybe even better. It hangs at the end of my bed and I'm loving life. There is a lot more to it but I don't wanna ramble anymore than I already have lol. Thank you for the entertainment as always TechDweeb and to everyone else in the video as well.
My favorite retro device is my custom made Mame arcade cocktail table. It has a 19" crt running on windows 95 SE, I built in 1999. It plays in both horizontal and vertical modes with controls in the right places. I guess you'd say my retro device is retro itself! Needing larger screens for old eyes, my handhelds are 405V, RGB30, RG505, and PS Vita. All of them cover a great use case, screen ratio, etc. Love this retro round table!
Formally my default handheld was the Bittboy 3.5. I played the HELL out of that thing -- almost as much as I did my old DMG from back in the day. But I really missed playing SNES games so I decided to shell out for a Miyoo Mini Plus which was one of my wiser investments. Not only can I now enjoy all of my old SNES favorites, but it also opened up the world of DS games to me. There are more powerful handhelds than the Miyoo Mini Plus out there, but nothing I've tried can compete with it in ease of use. It's really the best handheld you can get in the $50 range and even if you can afford something more powerful, I'd recommend at least giving it a try.
I got the 35xxSP yesterday, but after half an hour of playing around I sold it on eBay and now I'm back to using my XU10. Far more comfortable to me. :) Best wishes from germany!
So here's the thing. I've always been on the hunt for the one device that does it all. The GPD Win Mini 8840u hits all of the buttons for me. What makes it the top pick for me is putting Steam OS on it and a Grip I found that was designed to make it a little more comfortable. I was able to modify the grip and make it perfect for me. PC gaming, Emulation for everything that's out there and I also like to keep a bunch of movies and tv shows that I can watch at any time. The only drawback is the price.
The RG35XXSP for me, or if I'm playing in the house a Steam Deck for sure, though like you I also have a mini PC set up just for retro gaming and reading comics
Got a Retroid Pocket 3+ Pro a year ago and I can't recommend it enough. It actually fits comfortably in my pocket, hasn't shown much wear despite heavy use, and can handle nearly all console games made up to 2010 in addition to any android game I've thrown at it so far. Best bday gift I ever received in my entire life tbh
Russ' eyebrows just made me spit out my coffee. 10/10 would Dweeb again Edit: I go with my Steam Deck OLED for almost everything, but I can't ditch the Miyoo Mini Plus on the go! The perfect primary/sidearm setup. Also PICO8 on the big OLED screen is comically awesome.
My favorite handheld for emulation is an Android phone, a OnePlus Nord20 with a Snapdragon 695 chipset. I got a new one for cheap, and it saves storage on my main phone....plus. it is like a backup phone, if anything should happen to my main phone, plus, I don't have to worry about buttons that are constantly attached to it going bad, since I can use so many controllers for it, but my go to controller for it is a telescopic GameSir controller.
Right now, AynNeo Odin 2, Miyoo Mini Plus and Anbernic RG28XX. I prefer the Anbernic RG28XX out of all three. I just ordered the XU Mini M. I am still on the hunt for the best.
I had an Odin 2 and I loved it but the smaller sticks ruined local game streaming for me.. so I sold it and used the money to buy both a Retroid Pocket 4 pro (for my emulation up to GameCube) and a Logitech G Cloud for game streaming. I have been super pleased with this setup
My favorite pocket-able right now is my modded 3DS. great for all Nintendo handhelds and at least the first two home consoles and virtual boy. anything more i usually pull out the steam deck for its versatility.
I don’t think they understood the question dweeb! That’s OK though, I like hearing everyone talk about their favorite systems. For me, it’s definitely the Ambernic 405M. It’s completely unique with its 4in screen and to me, it was just made from the ground up for 4:3 systems and I love it. Hope we get an update for it soon! Also never stop doing these roundtable discussions, these are great!
Let's just say, I am no closer to picking out "the one" than I was before. The truth is probably a handful at least! But I do think I lean toward the Ayn Odin 2, and time after time RGC seems to praise that one!
I’m starting to think techdweeb is a secret supervillain , he never shows his face like Dr Claw from inspector gadget, he wears strips, and has the silliness of Darth JarJar
Go too. First is the hardkernel odroid go advance. Loved putting a system together and adding some mini mods along with emuelec on the software. Rg35xxx-sp is my number 2 for standalone bought. Clamchell has been a winner.
I think the anbernic arc deserves a mention here the screen is bigger than on the 35xx line and the controls while different than usual are not bad for anything and great for some things.
What I have - rp3 don’t play much, steam deck play occasionally, modded Switch - play a lot. What I want - an updated Retroid flip, or an updated rg556 (needs a better processor). What I dream off - a dual screen clamshell with a 5inch or bigger screen that can play PS2, GameCube, 3DS/DS flawlessly - aggravated by devices that have smaller screens than my phone.
My top 3: Odin 2 RG Cube RP4 Pro I’m loving the ability to sync them all (see Joey’s foldersync video) and swapping from one device to another depending on my mood.
I've been looking at that one but I heard the stock software is crap and have heard mixed things about how much custom firmware fixes it. I've heard Spruce OS is pretty good though, so I'm still tempted.
I got a 16 hour shift today, and because of a block party yesterday, UPS didn’t deliver my Flipzizzle. I was so looking forward to trying it out (since my Rg353p short circuited). I’m glad to see it on so many people’s favorites list. Gotta get a second device with analog sticks tho.
So little mentions of the Analogue Pocket! I think the Pocket earned a place!! - It is FPGA and what is runs, runs great. (GB, GBC, GBA, GG, NES, SNES, Genesis, Lynx, Neo Geo PC) not all have save states, but the originals didn’t had that either. - Because of FPGA, you don’t run into broken games. - The screen is phenomenal, games look so good. - it has the original ‘minui’. - you can use your original game cartridges. - Battery life is excellent. - it is not as Pocketable as the smaller ones, but is comfortable. I first had a RG35xx but it felt a little plasticy and the buttons rattle.
Yeah tis hard to stick to just one if you have multiple already, and if you tinker, or as Vlad would put it, baby your devices, it would be difficult not to use them when youve created that kind of attachment to them. My go-tos are Steam Deck for the most powerful emulation needs and of course pc gaming, Retroid Pocket 3+ for PSP mainly, as well as some PS2 and Android-native games, and the RG35XX H which i think is still the perfect entry device "objectively" in terms of power, price and functionality, which also has multiple solid firmwares that provide these.
I just realised I wasn't subbed......wtf.....the first time being asked to like and subscribe actually worked 😅 My go to is the Miyoo Mini Plus. It's my first retro emulation device and I adore it. I think once I finish playing all of the GBA and PS1 games I want to play on it, I'll be on the hunt for something that does PS2 well.

If you want an "almost all-in-one" cheap device, the Retroid Pocket 2 S is the to-go device: it is still the best price-value device you can get in the handheld emulation devices world ✨
I really wish the Arc and 40xx had that chipset.
Would be nice if they released a successor that's powerful enough to play all ps2 games on 2x resolution
@@Ratersen I totally agree :)
After watching review videos from like all you guys for the past year, the phawx recently made me realize I had analysis paralysis, so I finally just said f it and I got a miyoo mini+ a couple weeks ago, and I am loving it so much wish I wouldn't have waited so long
For me, the RG35XXSP hands down... And another excellent vid from our Royal Highness, TechDweeb!!!
Well done.
Yeah I hear you on these small screens
New to the hobby and got another handheld just for a bigger screen
I’m really considering buying the Anbernic nano i’m afraid it’s just gonna be on the shelf but it’s super tempting it looks so cool but right now I’m sticking to the RG350m
Yep I am with a lot of them. I got the Odin 2 for the big stuff and the 35xxH for all the retro handhelds.
Why do you hate the RG353V?
Thanks TD! Huge huge thanks for the roundtable. Brilliant Idea. You must be Canadian with all these good ideas. 😊
Nice vid! Looking forward to more like this 👍
My goto devices:
>RG35XX Plus
>RG405M
>Android phone (SD865) with backbone/gamesir controller.
It's difficult to buy/recommend handhelds for gcn emulation and above. A good phone (SD695 or better) and a detachable controller is the way 👌
Solid combo
My three favorites are, Steam Deck, Retroid Pocket 4 Pro and the Anbernic RG35XX Plus. These systems just work flawlessly for all my needs, look amazing and provide comfort for long gaming periods.
I like the RG35XX for all the GB stuff and the Odin 2 for everything else that it can run. And the ROG Ally for PC.
Love these videos and these collabs within this niche hobby! See if Taki Udon or Etland would want to join in!
Keep the round table vids coming. These are pure gold. ❤
Same , I haven't put in a new sd though, I'll try to do it this sunday
❤
The powkiddy square screen, horizontal jobby is my fave 😎
Plays my favourite system, the Original GAMEBOY amazingly. ❤❤❤❤
The RGB30! YES! Love that thing :D
My daily drivers are the Odin Pro, Retriod Pocket 3 plus and RG405V. I love them ALL but the 405v feels like an underrated device that was a great anbernic one and is my personal fave.
PLEASE make this a long form style podcast!!!! I love and watch all you nerds!
Second
Loving the great answers from the table! Thanks for including that weird guy too Stubbs
The GPDXD was incredible and for a long time felt like it was the only thing out there. Connecting it via mini HDMI felt so much like the future. It's still incredible and I would've still used it if it ran beyond Android version 4 or something.
@@cappnplanetcappnplanet3237 Absolutely this! Still my favorite to this day, although I don't use it very often now, it really still blows my mind.
Your desktop setup is SO COOL! Cozy is definitely the word for it.
Great topic. I’m using a Beelink SER 7 Mini PC at home, and a Miyoo Mini Plus with Onion OS on the go.
Hi, currently owning the MMiyoo+ and the RGB30, my go to is the latter, 1:1 display and thumbstick are what makes the difference with MM+. That being said, I've also purchased the RG Cube , but didnt get the chance to boot it yet. Could become my next fav, who knows
Mostly Odin 2 for me, but the under appreciated RG ARC for all 8/16 bit Sega, PC Engine and arcade. Original hardware for 3DS, DS and Vita.
Sounds like you got it figured out. Thanks for being here!
Funny man! Perfect writing and editing/delivery! Interesting for you big hitters to cut right to it (kind of)
My favorite retro device is my custom made Mame arcade cocktail table.
Best wishes from germany!
I finally got each of my siblings a steam deck led; upgraded the storage, plus got them miyoo mini's and it's been amazing.
I also got a Retroid Pocket 3+ last year. Great little device. Annoying to set up though.
@@gtssage lol I never even used the launcher once. The Stock Android UI wasn't good enough for you?
@@neetpride5919 I installed and used Daijisho launcher. I didn’t want the stock android experience. Personal preference.
Russ' eyebrows just made me spit out my coffee.
10/10 would Dweeb again
Edit: I go with my Steam Deck OLED for almost everything, but I can't ditch the Miyoo Mini Plus on the go!
I love this series, Dweeb!! I'm so happy you've gotten all these fantastic people together, and eagerly look forward to each episode!
👏👏👏
I must cast my vote for the anbernic arc s. My favorite handheld no one talks about anymore.
Ah, THIS will be the video for me, because I can't decide which one I need 😂
So after watching this video , how many of them do you need ?
All of them. The answer is all of them
Let's just say, I am no closer to picking out "the one" than I was before.
Dr claw had a cat too 👌🏽
and sounds like a muppet
Mine is definitely the first Odin pro. I was in love with that device the first day and I still use it daily even if I have a bunch of other devices.
Retro demon exist solely in Transylvania.. of this I am certain 🧛. You guys are awesome. Thanks for the video "Dweebs" and TechDweeb
As a person that lives in Transylvania, I can confirm retro demons exist here!
I love the Retro Round Table. All the best people in one video!
My top 3:
Odin 2
RG Cube
RP4 Pro
I’m loving the ability to sync them all (see Joey’s foldersync video) and swapping from one device to another depending on my mood.
Usually being dragged around by the wife and kids, the go-to is the a30, very easy to carry around in the pocket and pull out in a seconds notice.
I've been looking at that one but I heard the stock software is crap and have heard mixed things about how much custom firmware fixes it. I've heard Spruce OS is pretty good though, so I'm still tempted.
@@SuigaRoui love my a30 ( have 3) and spruce is awesome on the A30 works great and is easy to use (they just updated)
@@robvdputten7048 Might have to go in on one then. Thanks for the info!
Also… anyone have recommendations for a dedicated TV device. I know I can connect the handhelds to the tv, but I want something meant for it.
I think I most align with Joey. I don't yet have an Odin 2, but it's next up for me to get.
I regularly use a New 2DS, RG Nano, and my ROG Ally with bazzite.
Thanks for the amazing content! TechDweeb
I'm waiting the Miyoo A30 analysis and review.
Vlad started with the tablet but I new he was gonna pull out the xx-h
You know me so well! ❤️
7:29 Got completely distracted by the footage of Dweeb getting bullied by a slime.
Not my proudest moment...
I expected Joey to mention the Odin 2 mini, what a surprise
Miyoo mini plus & RG28XX are awesome! Great for portability.
I choose Anbernic Arc because i love fighting games from the Arcade, Cheers!
I just realised I wasn't subbed......wtf.....the first time being asked to like and subscribe actually worked 😅
My go to is the Miyoo Mini Plus. It's my first retro emulation device and I adore it. I think once I finish playing all of the GBA and PS1 games I want to play on it, I'll be on the hunt for something that does PS2 well.
About time!
