Dweeb, you and the other Retro Round Knights are heroes of this community. You're jumping through hoops to keep the history of those works of art alive while big names (or big N-ame) of the industry are butchering it for stupid greedy reasons. Thank you for all the awesome work you do, I appreciate you so so much.
This needs to become a series, most of those channels are mostly concerned with the hardware side of things which is cool, but I love getting recommendations for games to try out since I was basically a DOS kid and I don't know many retro games apart from top 10 lists or hidden gem lists. Personal favorites are just a little well more personal.
My personal hidden gem is Metal Storm for the Famicom/NES. It’s a robot platformer game. I love it because it has a really interesting gravity inversion mechanic. The graphics are top-tier, and the controls are incredibly smooth. All that creates a very immersive experience.
Oh wow.... I thought my retro catalogue was HUGE and I literally have discovered a new game from just about anyone, those were without a doubt hidden gems! Thanks Dweeb, amazing video, amazing collab!
I have 2 for you, not sure if they're hidden gems but I know I don't see anyone talking about them. 1. SNES - Vortex - This was one of the first SuperFX chip games that came out on the SNES and it a really cool 3D game that has you in a vehicle that can shift into different things like a plane, a robot a car that sort of thing. Graphics look pretty cool for a SNES game and I feel like they were going for the "Open World" idea, but of course couldn't really impliment it. 2. Genesis - Warlock - Though this game is an adoption from a terrible horror flick, I really enjoy the puzzles that requires you solve. I like the well shaded background and the music is a bit eerie. The druid character you play is super versitle and it just a good side scrolling puzzle game. Great work getting everyone together on this!
Brilliant idea, this community is easily the most civil out there, no one hates no one, all support each other, and we all benefit from it! More please Mr. Dweeb ❤
Absolutely loved it. This format is so good and having everybody we love in an episode giving their different perspectives is a super cool idea. Great Job General Dweeb.
Speaking of hidden gems... Tales of Eternia is super underrated. Everyone knows the series because of Symphonia on the gamecube, but Eternia has such a nice little cast and the combat is genuinely fun.
My hidden gem is 'Record of Lodoss War' on Dreamcast. From my understanding, it strays from the lore of the anime in order to better service what it is, a really good Diablo clone. In fact, the best on any consoles of that generation, if you ask me.
Brilliant as usual TD. Im glad you took the lead as Sylvester Stallone in the Retro game world version of the Retro inspired "The Expendables". Cameo cast heaven.
Fun fact about apocalypse on the ps1, Bruce was going to be a secondary character in the game so all of his dialogue was written and recorded as though he was reacting to what the main player was doing, but testing of the game found people wanted to play as Willis.
My hidden gem: the 1982 arcade game, "The Pit". It's a single screen precursor to the likes of Boulderdash. Dig down into an alien pit, evade robot bad guys, grab a diamond, and escape through a monster-filled pit before the enemy tank destroys your spaceship! So much character squeezed into such simple graphics!
@ThePhawx ! I love your hidden gems pick (I won't spoil it here), it's one I often try to get people to play. I bought it thinking it was one basic thing, and started playing and discovered just how magical it was. Great choice, dude! Nice choices all 'around. Good job getting the roundup, Dweeb!
Oh my god, Capture the Flag! I absolutely loved that game. I remember trying to get my mom to play it with me because I was an only child living on a farm. In my adulthood I think I'd completely forgotten about it.
My favorite hidden gem was Take-Two Interactive's 1996 FMV DOS game RIPPER. It has Christopher Walken, Paul Giamati, Blue Oyster Cult, Cyberpunk, puzzles, B movie acting, and the type of PG-13 story that made me feel super cool to be playing it as a teen.
Excellent collaboration! Lots of great answers here I'll have to rewatch and make a proper list. A note on Katamari, this series WAS a hidden gem in the early days FOR SURE, but it has sort of become the hidden gem that is NOW a cult favorite. Especially by the time the series came to xbox 360 and was called "Beautiful Katamari" and held it's value for AGES. No judgement though, because it's an EXCELLENT choice. ...oh MY hidden Gem? Well it's hard to pick one so I'll have to pick a few. 1) Remember Rare? What did they make in the Early Days? Have a look back at the NES Era at a game called "Solar Jet Man" imagine if Asteroids was even more complex and took place INSIDE planets with more aliens and treasures and puzzles and ship upgrades? You'll love it, go check it out 2) More NES?, How about Solstice? Known by the retro game music community from KILLER music composed by Tim Follin, Solstice has no business satisfying your ears this well. it also is a fun puzzle platformer. You play a wizard who has to gather pieces of a powerful magic staff so he may defeat an evil mage and save the princess. Boot it up and enjoy. 3)What? you want a Sega title? Here we go, Crusaders of Centy. I love this game. It was forged in the crucible of the Nintendo Sega rivalry. But why would I dare to explain? the video game historian has an EXCELLENT video on this game that is almost as interesting as playing the game itself (ua-cam.com/video/kCgIZIasYnE/v-deo.html). But seriously if you don't want to play the game after watching that? idk man it's a crazy good sales pitch. I have a few more, but I have already written a novel down here... so best of luck with those and I'll see you around the discord ^_^
I remember renting Solar Jet Man. Had no idea it was Rare that made it. And Solstice is amazing (that's on my list of NES gems). And HOW DID I KNOW that you'd be suggesting Crusaders of Centy. I could NEVER have predicted that you'd bring that one up 😏
Great idea and great video, thanks for putting this together. My hidden gem is "It's Mr. Pants" for the GBA which is an amazing puzzle game made by Rare and published by THQ. I feel like i never hear anybody mention it, but it's one of my favorite Tetris-ish puzzle games on any system. It's almost like a reverse Tetris.. you place blocks to clear the board. Good stuff.
I had capflag!! 😊 I've been thinking about this game lately, I LOVED it as a child! We had the EXACT same experience, mom mailing off a check and getting that white and yellow floppy disc in the mail. my first turn based strategy game! Thanks for pointing out that i can put it on my RG 353v! ❤
Simply put, I LOVE Hidden Gems videos and getting all these great Tubers' together for one video is the best yet! I always watch these with some scratch paper on the side so I can take some notes on games that I missed in the past. My few hidden gems: 1. WarGames: Defcon 1 on the PS1 (I am also going to sneak in Tempest X on the sly and see if anyone notices) 2. Tetrisphere on the N64 (I test this on every new system I buy because even high powered systems like the Deck don't always play it perfectly. I LOVE the music on this one and will crank crank the volume every time I start testing! 3. Ecco the Dolphin (both titles) on the Sega CD. Like Tetrisphere, I LOVE the music on these and still listen to it on UA-cam today. I thought I was so cool back in the 90's when I learned I could listen to the music from these games by skipping the first track. Yup, I'm a nerd to the core. Thanks again, Mr. Dweeb and everyone involved!
Holy cow, Capture the Flag! I used to buy all sorts of magazines that had shareware on them and I remember playing that game! Must've been 8 or 9 years old back then, what a game!
Just got myself a Miyoo Mini Plus, signifying my fire baptism as a retro console gamer, and it's so nice to find this awesome comunity of people sharing their love for retro gaming. My hidden gem is Dragon Valor, for the PS1. It's a very basic action RPG that has you control several generations of dragon slayers. You get to choose who they marry, resulting in different warriors going forward. I think it's tons of fun, and could swear that modern Ys games owe a lot to this game.
One hidden gem is on DOS ... "Archimedean Dynasty" (original German name "Schleichfahrt") ... it's an Wing Commander style post apocalyptic sub marine fighting jets game with an amazing atmosphere and story (with video story telling). It's an action shooter with strategic elements. It runs very well on Dosbox and also on RetroArch fully stretched on my RGB30. (cheap available on GOG)
Capture the Flag is such a great choice! I haven't played a serious game of it since the 90s, but I always make sure my Carr Software folder is one of the first things I copy over when I get a new hard drive/PC
Final Lap Twin was techincally the first JRPG I ever played back when it was released back in 1989, and was what got me into the genre as a whole. I recommend that game to people all the time and rarely does anyone take me up on checking it out. I hope this video gets more people to play it. It's an awesome Dragon Warrior/Early Final Fantasy wannabe and does it's own things, including hidden loot, areas, dungeons etc. Absolutely a treasure of an early JRPG.
Absolutely loved this video. This is the collab vid I didn't think I needed. For me my hidden gem is Full Auto 2: Battlelines on PSP (also on the PS3). Would be considered retro? Anyways I played so much of this when I was younger. Its a combat racing game with weapons, cool sound fx and some really cool cars designs. Thanks to this amazing community and happy gaming!
This was so great, looking forward to more chapters. My hidden gems are all the Intellivision games I grew up with. Night Stalker, B-17 Bomber, Star Strike and both D&D games (including a 3D one!) stand out.
I remember Capture the Flag! I played it all the time on one of those "500 Great Games" Dos shareware compilations that our dad would sometimes bring back from work trips. Thank you for the memory unlock!
Thanks so much, Stubbs. I've been looking for apocalypse for sooooooooo long. I played it as a kid but couldn't ever find it because I barely remembered anything about it at all.
Splinter Cell on the GBA is a great hidden gem. The franchise itself was very popular but hardly anyone talks about the GBA game. If you’re into stealth action at all, you have to check it out
Great video! Love the camaraderie. One of my retro hidden gems has to be Kwirk on GB. I never owned a GB growing up (I'm and 80's kid) but I had friends and family that had one. I never really played Kwirk until I met my father-in-law (in 2002). He had an OG gameboy and a couple games but he was always playing Kwirk. He showed it to me one day and I got HOOKED. My father-in -law passed away a few years ago and as a gift to my wife, I got her a red GB Pocket with a copy of Kwirk. We play it once in a while and have fun solving the puzzles but most of all we remember my father-in-law while playing it.
Dude I’m all in for this series hell yes!!! Russ and you have been my favorite channels as of late :) cheers to success and more collaborations down the road
My retro suggestion is also Dos, I think. The game was called scorched earth, I think...this was a while back. Regardless, you controlled a tank and tried to blow up other tanks. You got ammo upgrades, picked coordinates, fired away, and it was an absolute blast back in the day.
I'm diggin' the Arthurian themed collab! I've got a recommendation, and while it's not a hidden gem, I do feel it's overlooked and sidelined a lot. Vagrant Story for the PS1. Throwin in Final Fantasy Tactics as well for good measure. B) Dragon Quest Monsters lookin neat! 👀
This is such an excellent idea. Great collaboration from some of my favorite content creators. Maybe you can get Retro Game Guy in on the action. One of my favorite hidden gems was Crusader No Remorse. It was a DOS game with a very interesting perspective. I was sucked in by the box art, fortunately it was a really fun game.
As I am finishing the video, Capture the Flag is an amazing game! I remember playing it as a kid! I emulated it a few years back, but now want to see if I can get it working on an Odin 2 🤔
Apocalypse was a fun game with Bruce Willis, another like it also on PS1 is the game ONE. The vibration on some guns was pretty nuts, btw anyone playing on Odin 2 when the game starts up in Duckstation it starts as a digital controller like some PS games did so just toggle the analog/digital mode in settings to get the proper twin shooting instead of the face buttons, also you need to enable vibration in Duckstation in the touchscreen settings on Odin.
Enjoyed the video. Final Lap Twin is definitely something I'm gonna enjoy as a fan of Lamborgini American Challenge for the SNES, but with betting instead of a set amount to be paid for loosing. I'd say katamari damacy is probably the least hidden gem on the list here. It kinda blew up because of the absurdity in early online stuff at the time. You could roll a ball up and pick up people. It was shocking to people. Very fun game though. Highly suggest.
My hidden gem is Vandal Hearts for PS1. I played that so much as a kid and would love to see it come back either as a remaster or remake. I also played a lot of Frogger 2 Swampy's Revenge.
I think a lot of people already are aware of Solomon's Key, but not enough! So i think it still counts as a hidden gem. And yeah, Darkwing Duck i only found out in older hidden gems videos, and is now one of my guilty pleasures.
You need 3 hidden 3DS gems? I will go with Pyramids and its sequel. You have a single screen of side scrolling goodness where you have to place down bricks in order to collect all of the treasure and get to the door in as quick a time as possible. Getting to the door gives you one point collecting all the treasure gives you a second point and doing both those things within the time limit gives you the third point and you need to get enough points to unlock the next set of levels. Edge Is kind of like Super Monkey Ball or Marble Madness but if you were a cube instead of a sphere. If you try to flip onto the wall of a moving platform and you only flip partway and then you just keep flipping partway you can cling to the side of the wall as it's moving which is cool. Fluidity Is a game where you play as water so you have to tilt around to have the water fall with gravity in whichever direction you want and it's a 2D platformer really cool there's a Wii and a 3DS game and it's totally worth playing. The 3DS game even has up side down levels where you have to hold the 3DS upside down sometimes.
I love watching your videos and so happy to see you did a collab with all of my favorite dweebs. I don't know if this is a hidden gem but no one ever talks about it. GBA - Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge
Lovely video! ❤ My hidden gem for you is a GBA game titled Dragon Ball GT: Transformation, which is a beat'em up in the style of Street of Rage, but of course in Dragon Ball GT theme. It's basically the story of Baby saga, but the fun part is that you can unlock other characters once the main story is ended and you can build your own team. Each character has a unique fighting style, so each time you change your team you have a different experience through the different amazing levels!
I loved the snk vs capcom on the neogeo pocket. Was such a fun little game. But it had a sister game called snk vs capcom: card fighters clash also on the pocket, which was a way bigger game and so much fun to play!
A hidden gem everyone should try at least once is Rising Zan Samurai gunman on psone, it’s basically a goofy Wild West precursor to Devil May Cry. Loads of fun
Super Black Bass, snes. There has never been a better fishing game. It’s amazing for people who have never played or don’t like modern fishing games. Best hidden gem ever.
I've got an awesome one. "Snake Rattle'n Roll" one of Rares early NES titles and it is a killer game. Tough as nails and satisfying as hec. Quarky and fun.
Hell yeah! What a collab, really comes to show how far our little community has come. I would absolutely love to see more, Dweeb!!!
Like... His face ? 😎😎
More seriously, yeah we want more of this, feast time this video is 🤝
This group is so supportive. I love this community! ❤
Me too and honestly I find a lot of love and acceptance in the video game community platform Wars notwithstanding
Ditto!
Bro summoned the Avengers of the retro handheld community for this😎

You're jumping through hoops to keep the history of those works of art alive while big names (or big N-ame) of the industry are butchering it for stupid greedy reasons. Thank you for all the awesome work you do, I appreciate you so so much.
That was really nice to hear. Thanks man 🍻
Awesome video, and honored to be part of the collab! Keep up the amazing work TD!
What a GOAT, MrSujano!! Only the real ones remember you before emulation was cool 😅
Absolutely great video. Thanks.

7:10 Final Lap Twin! Yes the story RPG mode is really fun. Highly recommended & strangely still underrated.
I cant believe it existed for so long and ive NEVER heard about it!
@@OzymandiasWasRight You will love it! Still remember playing this on Turbo Express. Unfortunately Turbografx system was very underrated system.
10:45 TechDweeb calling himself "handsome". Get it? Because of the hands? I lol'd.
Let's have a hand for that joke!
These jokes are getting out of hand
Isn't TechDweeb a hand model professionally?

Great work getting everyone together on this!
This is the Avengers for retrogaming nerds
Prepare yourself, I'm gonna hit you up for a future episode!
@@TechDweeb OH BOY 🙏🙏
Russ: I have this game, I don't know if you've ever heard of it, it's called Contra.
Can you play with a dpad?
@@TechDweebonly sometimes
I tried playing it but can’t get the diagonals right
Ah yes I agree with Mr Sujano on Street Fighter on GBC
Definitely gonna check this one out
i found this one accidentally a few years ago and the mechanics are so nice
If you're using some emulation handheld why not just play the arcade version of alpha instead of the crappy game boy color version lol
I freaking LOVE that capture the flag game! Totally forgot about it! Thanks techdweeb
It was so good! Even playing it now is an adult it's great, nice that there is a turn-based strategy game that isn't all bazookas and fireballs.
Bringing all the community together! Love this one, Dweeb! 🧡
Brilliant idea, this community is easily the most civil out there, no one hates no one, all support each other, and we all benefit from it! More please Mr. Dweeb ❤

Dig down into an alien pit, evade robot bad guys, grab a diamond, and escape through a monster-filled pit before the enemy tank destroys your spaceship! My favorite hidden gems are Rastan (Arcade & Console [sms] ) and Black Tiger (Arcade). Thank God for emulation!
Love the concept of this rapid fire format, and the topic too! Can't wait to see more episodes
This was amazing! I love what you did here bringing everyone together like a little family of friends. This is the heart of retro gaming right here.
I'm a 3ds lover and I didn't knew of that last game 150 hours is insane
Sega Genesis: Beyond Oasis. This is my hidden gem. It's basically a Zelda Beat-em-up Action RPG for the Genesis / Megadrive.
Shatterhand (NES), Felix The Cat (NES), Al Unser Jr's Turbo Racing (NES) and Ranger X (Genesis/Megadrive) are some good ones.
Solid picks 👍
My favorite hidden gem was Take-Two Interactive's 1996 FMV DOS game RIPPER. It has Christopher Walken, Paul Giamati, Blue Oyster Cult, Cyberpunk, puzzles, B movie acting, and the type of PG-13 story that made me feel super cool to be playing it as a teen.

Splinter Cell on the GBA is a great hidden gem. The franchise itself was very popular but hardly anyone talks about the GBA game. If you’re into stealth action at all, you have to check it out
NES - Chip n' Dale - Lots of fun playing in coop
Yes!!!
Seeing all of you in one video puts a smile on my face. BTW, we need odin mini 2 content!
There’s all of these good retro gaming personalities and then there’s Joey. What a stark contrast when you line them up like this.
Awesome 👍 a little recommendation from me , 'spindizzy' for the sinclair spectrum . Marble on a 3d landscape at its best 👌
Thanks TechDweeb for getting this together❤. My hidden gem is King's Valley on the MSX
Oooh our first MSX hidden gem!
My retro suggestion is also Dos, I think. The game was called scorched earth, I think...this was a while back. Regardless, you controlled a tank and tried to blow up other tanks. You got ammo upgrades, picked coordinates, fired away, and it was an absolute blast back in the day.
Yes! I played a ton of that game! It's like an early version of worms
I also loved Super Monaco GP on GG too, first racing game for me on a handheld!
Totally agree with Sujano’s picks!
I will have to check out Final Lap Twin, looks and sounds fun
Great idea for a video and nice to see everyone taking part :)
I feel like a lucky dweeb that so many cool people said yes
I'm diggin' the Arthurian themed collab! I've got a recommendation, and while it's not a hidden gem, I do feel it's overlooked and sidelined a lot. Vagrant Story for the PS1. Throwin in Final Fantasy Tactics as well for good measure. B)
Dragon Quest Monsters lookin neat!
My hidden gems:
PS1 - Monster Rancher, Brave Fencer Musashi, Tenchu, Legend of Legaia.
GBA - Medabots Metabee and Rokusho, The Urbz.
No way I LOVED that Capture The Flag game as a kid! Shareware version. Probably off a magazine cover disk ❤
More of this! Well done all! Have a bunch of new games to check out on my RGB30!!!
Oh 100% Solomon's Key! I found that while hidden gem hunting. It's awesome!
Wild Arms WAS a hidden gem until it was rediscovered. That's why they call it "hidden".
WIld Arms was not a super nintendo game, he meant Wild Guns lmao
@@SvensPron The second amendment would be a lot clearer if it did say the right to bear guns.
Wow, that is an impressive cast, congratulations on pulling it off! Great video!
I love this idea! And kudos to the awesome creator community coming together to do this!
I love watching your videos and so happy to see you did a collab with all of my favorite dweebs. I don't know if this is a hidden gem but no one ever talks about it.
GBA - Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge
Finally, Tech Dweeb can stop getting in trouble for considering Wild Guns a hidden gem, and start getting in trouble for calling it "Wild Arms." (:
Yay! Now I can get ALL the hate!
There is a game called wild arms
Lovely video! ❤ My hidden gem for you is a GBA game titled Dragon Ball GT: Transformation, which is a beat'em up in the style of Street of Rage, but of course in Dragon Ball GT theme. It's basically the story of Baby saga, but the fun part is that you can unlock other characters once the main story is ended and you can build your own team. Each character has a unique fighting style, so each time you change your team you have a different experience through the different amazing levels!
collab of the century 💯 I actually played Super Monaco GP back in the day! That unlocked a memory. Apocalypse and Final Lap Twin look so cool.
Love Apocalypse also Skull Monkeys,Einhander and Ergeiz. All also on the PS1
I loved the snk vs capcom on the neogeo pocket. Was such a fun little game. But it had a sister game called snk vs capcom: card fighters clash also on the pocket, which was a way bigger game and so much fun to play!
This was a really fun video! I love it! My hidden gem is Cosmo Tank for the OG Gameboy. Many good memories there.
Yeah I found that game while hidden gem hunting. Neat game!
A hidden gem everyone should try at least once is Rising Zan Samurai gunman on psone, it’s basically a goofy Wild West precursor to Devil May Cry. Loads of fun
Looks AMAZING!
Ultimate retro-crossovers gathering!
I have few:
Willow - NES
Chibi-Robo - GameCube (underrated)
Dog's Life - PS2
Super Black Bass, snes. There has never been a better fishing game. It’s amazing for people who have never played or don’t like modern fishing games. Best hidden gem ever.
I've got an awesome one. "Snake Rattle'n Roll" one of Rares early NES titles and it is a killer game. Tough as nails and satisfying as hec. Quarky and fun.
