1st let me say thank you for all your reviews. It really helped me with the Shark and expectations. So after your video I did something probably not everyone has done. Yes I removed the crazy items off the floor and gave the shark as much room as possible to clean the floors. I have a 140 lb Cane Corso and all they do is shed short hair which gets tracked everywhere in the house. Plus the central ac will just blow the hairs around too. So for it's 1st run I didn't care about the mapping I wanted it to just clean. The robot in my opinion was efficient at what it does. I saw a few flaws which could be better but I was ok with them. The trick to mapping the floors is to let the robot make it's initial run on the factory settings. Let it clean and evacuate as many times as it needs too. Once your initial cleaning has been done. Reset your robot and turn off the evacuation feature and the charge feature. Your next 10 runs should be done on Eco mode and let the robot run. The 1st floor of my home is about 1500 sq ft and it completes in just under 2 hours on Eco mode I got my full map on the 10th after resetting. So 11 runs in total. Thanks your channel has been great I wish I could afford a roomba and braava combo but maybe in the future
@@RobotMasters A lot of the negative things that you experienced in a lot of your testing with navigation and the app, I have to admit it hasn't been that bad. I have been able to communicate with the robot on LTE or the cell network, the navigation and moving around chairs and other obstructions on the floor has been really good. Navigation has been really good as long as you have some reasonable lighting on. Return navigation actually has been straight lines. I did notice in low light "The Meg" (robot's name) gets lost and takes time to figure out where it is. My only beef so far is multi floor plan and the biggest bite out of my ass is Shark's integration with Google. My other devices I can say "Good morning" and my lights down stairs will turn on and my main TV will turn onto the local new network. For me to do that with the shark I have to say "Hey google talk to shark" then shark will give me a generic reply with a list of commands the commands work but that integration is silly. I should be able to see the robot on my Google home I should have to have google assistant talk basically open the app and transfer control to my google home speaker. I should just be able to say "Hey Google tell The Meg to start cleaning" or a specific room. Shark you need to work a little harder with your software people.
@@dballz78 I think I had better luck using the Shark with Alexa, could tell the robot to clean a specific room. Example, Alexa tell Shark to Clean the Kitchen and it would got clean the Kitchen. Haven't tried with Google but, I think with google it start and stop commands, no ropm select. I agree clearing the area first helps the Shark out tremendously.
@@RobotMasters It just common sense let it clean pick up most of the dirt and dust that we see and can't see. Once that is done if you do a cleaning twice a day you'll have that map in no time
Damian Davis I would probably skip the rumba way overpriced and I’ve had nothing but problems with mine which is puzzling because everyone else says they’re so fantastic well yes all the rumors I previously had were fantastic then I upgraded to the S9 plus one my old one died and boy do I hate the thing. Shark IQ is a much better value and works better to
I've been watching online comparisons of robot vacuums before deciding on my next, and your reviews have been by far the most entertaining! Keep it up :)
Thank you for this video. It has been about 14 runs and my map isn't even close to being done and I was worried, but now I will just be patient. And also, thanks for showing how it is normal for it to bounce drunkenly around.
No problem, sometimes being too efficient doesn’t allow a good cleaning job, cleans too fast. The Shark I have noticed spends a lot of time in an area but it cleaning well.
Hello all My Robot Vacuum Peeps 😁. Well I hope you guys liked my quick introduction to the Shark IQ smart Mapping and Alexa Support. I will say having the smart mapping and being able to tell Alexa to have Shark clean an specific Area is Awesome. Hopefully Shark will make it better through software updates, to support multi level mapping, No Go Zones and quicker Mapping.
boz1200m3d Only when using the Alexa device it easier on the Shark. So on the Alexa for the Shark I can say a single command like: Alexa tell Shark to Clean the Kitchen. Alexa will ask for the Robot name and will start cleaning. I can’t say that command using Roomba. I have to go through several more prompts, take a little longer to start.
The camera on the RV915S does nothing but collect data, aka photos of everything and everyone in your house. I covered mine out of the box with electrical tape and guess what? It still mapped the floors and never had an issue. "I need light for my camera" says the manual. Lies! Stay safe out there.
JAJAJAJAJAJAJ the fact that you asked it to go To its Dock.... and it just went straight under the bed hahahah I had the biggest laugh lol after it was drunk driving all over the house lol It’s outta control hahah
I received my Shark IQ on December 8th. I connected the shark to my iPhone 11 with no problems. I followed the directions from shark to link Shark account to google assistant...very simple, I did have to toggle the “personal results” on my google hub to allow voice control however but works flawlessly now. After 4 days and 14 runs (not all were full runs) my map became available and I customize rooms. So far this vacuum has been amazing and no issue. Hard to believe all the negative reviews on the app when I have had zero issues. I will say my downstairs is only just over 1000 sqft and a very open floor plan so maybe that helped. I have two young kids and two huskies and this thing picks up everything. For the price I am extremely pleased.
Thank you for the in-depth experience you had the Shark. Glad the mapping worked out, I think a lot of the issues have been with earlier versions of the software with the long mapping process. With the new software updates it seems a lot of bugs have been addressed.
Shareef Yousef I would try to delete the map, reset the robot and start over. I had to do this at 30 cleaning runs. But once I did this the robot mapped in 11 cleaning runs. It a bug where the robot may not create the map.
I have Shark and Wyze robot vacuum. The Wyze is smart. It maps the whole floor accurately in about 30 minutes. In comparison, the Shark is like a drunken sailor. After many runs, the map is still a total mess. There are still several part of the floor the shark hasn't visited; at the same time, it vacuums some other areas 3 or 4 times in one run.
Mapped my house in 4 runs. All lights on... Does bounce around running into stuff.. Put foam weather strip around the robot so it doesn't mark up the white furniture legs and base molding.
I've mapped 2 floors in 2-3 runs each. (deleted floor and restarted for second floor). Each floor is about ~1500 sqft. The maps were not 100% complete, but I was able to explore the map and see where the Shark had been. I think they've fixed their mapping issue.
Sweet thanks for the info, I might have to delete my map and see if they fixed the mapping runs. Took me 31 cleaning runs the first time and 11 after a reset on the robot.
Hey quick question. Once it makes a map does it add more as it goes? It has a "completed" map but is missing rooms... should I delete that or just let it keep going?
I would delete and start over. Make sure the first run has included all the rooms and resembles closely to what your Floorplan looks like. If not and you try to continue mapping may never map properly even after several runs.
I know Shark has done a few software revisions after making this video. With that being said, the first map is the most important one. So the App will give you an option to thumb up or down. I would recommend deleting the first map if it looks nothing like your floor plan. If it close than keep the map and eventually the map will have more details.
Love mine. Spend 2 minutes to reset your floor so it's the same every time you clean. We put dining room chairs up restaurant style. We do this when we vacuum anyway. 👍
We love our Shark, (Dora). Never had any of the issues discussed here. It makes about four runs, because I have it set to dump every 30 minutes. We have a 1400 sq. foot bungalow. It will dock after the 3rd run and charge for a couple of hours than off it goes to finish. Since I have it set to keep going to exhaust the battery, after it's last run it will keep running in somewhat of a random pattern. I set it that way to keep the house continuously at the lowest level of "dog fur". It's great, no problems and like Star Trek, "it can boldly go where no one has gone before". Like into the deep space underneath our king size bed!! lol
Glad to hear, sounds like Shark listened and vastly improved their software since the release of this video. Yes these Robot’s manage to find and clean areas where no one has gone before aka UP Right and Stick Vacuums.
Andrew Roche, it starts mapping immediately when you first start it up. The mapping it seems us continuously updating. The four runs is how many times it has to go back to the dock to empty. We have it set for 1/2 hour runs because our dog sheds a lot of fur and our home is 1400 square feet. We could set clean longer than 1/2 hour at a time. So yes, it has to return to dock four times because that is how we set it up. I hope that clarifies.
First, thanks for all the work you put into your videos! You really make it fun and spontaneous :D Yeah, I got the Shark IQ last week and already had to delete the map LOL. What it got the first time after 7 or so cleaning runs was sort of correct (60% there), but I honestly thought it'd be best to start over from scratch since the layout was kinda jacked up. I'll leave it alone for a month though and see how accurate, or completely wrong, the map is then.
Hey Nathan! It’s me, Sanitized Vera Fire! I love all of the videos you make and I love the comparison cleaning and just only one robot vacuum cleaning videos! I love your UA-cam channel by the way!
I wouldn't hold getting broken by cleaning the garage against Sharkie. It really wasn't designed for that. My beloved Dyson V8 got clogged when I attempted to vacuum Costco sized box of Cheerios I dropped and it doesn't like cleaning a filthy patio, but those are for a shop vac. I just bought the Shark IQ for < $400 and while there's no way it navigates like the Roborock, it does a good enough job of cleaning, hasn't gotten stuck or died during a cleaning run and that clean base is wonderful. No map yet, but even without the map, it does OK in a simple space despite taking much, much, much longer than Roborock takes to clean the same area. I have high hopes for Sharkie.
30+ runs? That makes me nervous. I just bought one and it hasnt completed 1 full run yet (it just went back to its charging station since the battery is low) but when I click on the map in the app it just says "Something went wrong". Is it supposed to do that if the map is not complete?
Thankfully there has been several software updates since the release of this video. It usually takes 1-3 cleaning runs depending on the size of the home and how complex the layout is. PS it has to make a complete run before anything shows up on the map.
It took me a week to get the app to work with one of our phones. Had to do all kinds of updates, including the router. There's no sign that my Shark has been making a map, but it is much more effective getting the floors clean. Do I have to reset the whole robot to get it to map?
Padlock Padlock It took 11 Cleaning Runs, just needed a reset, because I noticed the robot would get confused easily, or not return not the charger. The robot is working 100% better now!!!
I think it was because I was running an early software version. There has been several updates since the creation of this video. From what I experienced and from other users the Shark takes 1-3 cleaning runs to create a map. Glad it only took a single run for you!!!
One question needs your help: when you got a fairly good map after few runs then somehow got a way off map on the next few runs, do you delete it and restart or keep running and the robot can correct itself? Thanks!
I would continue creating the map, the robot overlays section of the map until it confident it created a map. If your very first run is off than delete the map, but if it off during the middle of your training runs than it should correct itself. The Shark Mapping very finicky and any little changes can throw it off especially in a complex environment with tables and chair legs.
OMG! I'm 15 runs in and not 1/2 way. My Neato 7 took one run.I love my Neato. This is horrible. I typically only like 2 rooms cleaned and now I need to run it 20+ more times??? JEESH!
You might need to reset the robot, you should be able to map around 10 cleaning runs. I was at 31 cleaning runs reset and deleted the map and got in 11 cleaning runs.
I'm at 143 runs total and my shark still hasn't mapped the house. I deleted the map data at run 43 and started over. Cleans fine otherwise, would be nice to get map working. Thinking of doing a factory reset.
I just got my vacuum 3 days ago. It has over 11 hours of cleaning time with 8 clean runs. It doesn’t not show how many square feet cleaned, it also shows map completion at 0.0%. Do I need to reset it or let it keep going ?
It was the same for me. It took quite a few runs to get an initial map. When it finally appeared, I deleted it because I could not recognize it because of all the junk lying around in my house. Once I deleted the first map, the next one was much quicker to appear. I eventually got used to the map the robot made of my place and it worked well so far.
My Map says it is 100% complete but it has got some problems. However, if i look at today's map view under history, it looks quite accurate. Will the official map (used for specifying rooms) update from the correct map from the History map view? Any tips? thanks for the informative video.
Overtime the map should improve overtime, unless the map completely different from your floor plan. If that the case remapping is necessary. Make sure to clear as much of the area when mapping.
Sooo here's my question. I have a new shark, it mapped pretty quick, however I cant send to specific rooms. Genius Shark support told me to delete map and try again, but this time do not accept the map or delete it for the first week. Cleaning after cleaning the map stays the same when I goto review. I am wondering is everyone deleting their map if it doesn't look like their place each time until it gets it right?
@@RobotMasters Ya charging it up now. One piece of good news is you're supposed to get 60 minutes cleaning time, I easily get 2 hours everytime. On super high setting I get 90 minutes plus
I tried to start mapping but after 10 minutes it kept getting clogged with hair (2 cats) probably because we did not pre-vacuum the house. So I decided to map the house without vacuuming by removing the rotator brush. It does not detect it missing and runs normally, I keep the setting on ECO and let it go map the house it came back on its own to empty out and it made it back to the base (which is in another room) without hitting anything and docked, then returned back to where it left off. Boy! was that impressive.and at the hour it returned to charge flawlessly. but did not finish s map. I'll let you know when it does so I can start vacuuming!
I've had my new IQ for a week, and has the stupidest map, missing so much. Am sure disappointed in mapping. It's been on a mapping run twice a day. Frustrating. PS, no obstacles...I spend more time ensuring no obstacles or corners to get stuck in pressure running the iq than getting out my shark upright! Lol. But, am soooo happy the iq cleans under my beds; that's awesome
Yayy)) finally😀😀 ..but could you make a longer video about the map..when you were customizing the map you said the squares were too big to fit i rooms? What do you mean?🤔🤔🤔🤔
Daniel Suarez Yes I will do a more I’m in-depth video too 😁. Unfortunately the Map on the iPhone is being displayed really small, can’t zoom in to make the map bigger. So trying to make multiple rooms on a map the size of a couple finger width was difficult.
@@danielsv17 On the Andorid App the Map was larger filled the entire screen, but you can't rotate it zoom in in the Map in the editing mode. Just make areas on top of the static map, and name them.
KingLord I only contacted them once about the mapping issue and App support, they said they will work on an update and to reset the robot which helped with getting a map.
I’m liking mine at 1/2 the price of the Roomba, plus my last roomba didn’t work well at all getting clogged (dogs) What do you do with the shark when it is at the opposite end of the house with a dead battery and stuck? Doesn’t that ruin the map to move it to the charging station?
Nope the nice thing about the Shark Map is once it created and saved, the map won’t get messed up or lost if you physically move the robot or furniture around. The only way for the map to get removed is if you physically delete it in the App.
I have long house, 155 feet from one end to the other, I have SharkIQ in the middle, kitchen all the way to the right, bedroom all the way to the left. I keep telling it to go to kitchen and it never goes. Any ideas? ready to send it back
Just from what people have told me some time in November 🤣 WoW you are right, I will keep checking Shark website maybe it a glitch but yeah you can’t purchase the Shark IQ on their website 🤔😮
Tks, looks like they are trying to give them away. Mine seems to spend an hour in my small dining room bouncing into the same wall. Stopping looking confused and bouncing into a wall again.
I just don't understand why the map is so oddly shaped. My house is a bungalo there are no nooks and crannys or rooms that jut out, but there are on the map it's showing. I am very forgiving of it though because I hate vacuuming and this does do a pretty good job. I'm hoping with a few more runs it will produce a map that's at least a bit accurate.
I really like your reviews and I decided to give Shark a try. I have a small apartment and I lifted everything I could and he did a nice map pretty quick. I have my rooms but I tell him to go to the bathroom and it goes to another place :( I did a new map and again it was welldone but same issue, he does not respect places and I'm very frustrated lol. Is there anything to do? Any known reason for this? Thanks and keep doing your good work :)
Yeah unfortunately Shark even with a perfect map can go to different areas. I assume you are mapping in well lit areas. You are not moving a lot furniture around that may confuse the robot. If you are still having issues, maybe see if you can return the Shark and get the i7+ with self emptying. More money with better navigation.
@@RobotMasters got it. I guess I'll do that but the self empty is not a dealbreaker for me so I'm considering the Roborock S6 MaxV. I need good map, suction and smart enough to go the correct areas I ask. What do you think? I didn't find your review about this model. Thanks!!!
just curios, just bought this for 200 on black friday [rv1000] and debating returning it for something better, BUT the question is : is there something that is hair tangle free [got dogs] and not random navigation for under 200 that is better than this, ive been looking and seems hard to find something for that price that is better? I would really appreciate your opinion. . . . thanks in advance
@@RobotMasters THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 I really really apprecaite!!! checking it out now. . . cyber monday is tommrow so running out of time to return the shark and find something better for a discount holiday price
@@RobotMasters well dam . . .:( just realized its not released yet and not reviewed yet :( althought it looks very promising. . . . . hmm leaves me still confused that if there something that will be beat the rv1000/r100 on a black friday/cyber monday deal of 200$
Congrats on the map! Would you prefer the Shark over the Roomba with that new feature? I mean sure, it costs more but it seems to be better at navigation. But Vacuum Wars said: "Nothing can beat a $500 self-emptying robot". I was a little skeptical about the Shark IQ but eventually changed my mind.
For now the Shark doesn’t come close. The navigation, and App features and Stability needs work. I do like Sharks dual Side Brushes, high airflow at 23 CFM and Bagless System. The Roomba still wins despite the double price tag.
@@oneloveboo1 Yeah according to other youtuber the CFM on the Shark pretty high around the 23 mark. Now the i7 depending on what source you look at says 7 or 17 CFM. I usually take suction and airflow with a grain of salt because other factors like navigation abilities, extractor bar design, side brush design and even the wheels have a role in determining how well a robot performs overall.
After like 10 runs, the map looks nothing like my house.. when you delete a map, does it just delete the map itself, or does it also delete all the data created, starting from scratch to map the room?
I bought a Shark AI on Black Friday and it still runs like a drunken sailor. It's mapping has a lot to be desired. Rooms are incorrectly mapped and editing the map in the mobile app does not redraw. After two weeks, the map does not update. I've done several re-explore runs and not getting better results. Will likely return it for a roomba.
Sorry to hear, I have heard mix things about the Shark and how it maps. Some say the Shark works well others like myself had issue. Hopefully the roomba works better for you.
Do a video on sharks maintenance, i would like to see how it differs from my Roomba 595 cleanup. I do 4 times a year taking it apart and blowing out the dust. I know roombas gear box so how does sharks differ, do new video ever 5 minutes 😁
Just returned my Shark LOW IQ Vacuum. It kept losing the wi-fi signal, got lost in closets, never completed the mapping of our house after more than 30 cleanings. When it did clean, it would do a pretty good job. Called Shark Customer Service line for help and when describing the problem found them to be argumentative. Their customer support is what got me to just return my vacuum cleaner. I could put up with some cliches that a software upgrade might have fixed but I won't put up with attitude from some $8.00 and hour desk jockey.... Hello Roomba....
After one run mine gave me a map but doesn't look like my floor plan. I deleted and again it gave me the same weider map. Will the map change the more runs I do?
Hmmmm it should look somewhat like your Floorplan after the first run. You can try a 2nd run, try to leave everything in place don't move furniture or close doors when mapping.
@@RobotMasters wow thanks for the quick reply, I love your channel. I actually deleted the map and same thing happens. When going in the history I actually see my proper floor plan but when going to map it is completely wrong I can't figure out the rooms.
@@joelleonardo3668 I would try mapping again, it does take a few times to map out. Try 3-5 times and see what happens. Make sure the area doesn’t change and all doors stay open.
It took 30 cleaning runs for the first time, I reset the robot and it mapped in 11 cleaning runs. Ideally it should map in 11 runs so around 11 hours or more
Meh, our shark is leaps and bounds better than the rogue roombas we got and had to return because they were crashing into chairs so hard, resulting in knocking them over. The other one started making a horrible grinding noise. The shark Boi is also more quiet and the brushes worked appropriately. Oh, and shark Boi can go over rugs. Roomba decided to eat our rugs.
Ashley S LoL nice name Boi, I named mine Sharky, I know not very original. What model Roomba do you have? My Roomba S9 aka Vacuum Ninja was the same way, a wrecking ball, ate rugs and I almost returned him. But iRobot did some updates and he is more down to earth.
BAH! I've reset the map 3 times. After the 3rd time, on the first day, It finally captured the entire house for the most part. now 3 days later, the map has shrunk. It deleted 2 rooms from the map even though it just cleaned one of the rooms before returning to dock. Map seems to always be stuck at 33% :/ I wonder if a factory reset of the shark itself will help. :/
Yeah I reset the robot deleted the map, and also uninstalled the app and reinstalled again. I also found if the the first run if the map doesn't look right, the robot won't fully finish the map.
My main level 2800 sqft, I was at 31 cleaning runs when I realized the Shark would never complete the map. After the reset and deleting the map it took 11 cleaning runs. I noticed if the map doesn’t look right after the first couple cleaning runs it best to start over. I made sure all cables and furniture was moved out the way to give the Shark the best chance to map.
Alexa is crap with the shark. Every time, I say a command it says for you to say on the alexa app, and it either doesn't work. or she asks "did you want me to launch the shark app?" me: "yes" alexa: "i can make it do this, this, and check battery level, which one did you want?, what's the name of the device?" it's A PAIN.
Yeah sounds like it more difficult than it should. When I tested the Shark with Alexa, I just said Alexa tell Shark to clean the Kitchen and the robot would clean the specific area. I didn’t try any of the other features that Alexa offers with the Shark IQ. Hopefully Shark can improve the user experience.
I'm getting no help from Shark resolving the wifi issues with my cell. All of their videos tell you to call their 877 number BUT they're closed :-( Can you set up the Alexa to run it instead of the cell phone?
My god, your map looks like my map. Do they use a default? So, here we are. Jan 2022 and they STILL don't' have the mapping ability fixed. I have a DeeBott at half the price that blows this thing away as far as mapping. The ONLY thing nice is the self empty feature. But though I have 2 cats , I still have to take the tank outside and air hose it off every other week since it doesn't clear out the hair (and one cat is a short hair). The app is a joke (did I mention mapping?). And psst, hey Shark, Neato was using your mag strips back in 2011. Get with the program and let your user make NO GO ZONES in your map feature.
Sent my Shark IQ back. It took 41 runs before it mapped my home and then the map was only about 90 % correct. It seems to do a pretty decent job of cleaning my home but the shark has a few issues that needs to be addressed. Mapping needs to be done sooner than 30 or 40 runs. The App is terrible and kept crashing on my Android devices. The self emptying bin would not power on 1 out of every 3 times the robot docked on my unit. Shark support was not very good. I used chat and also talked to them on the phone and someone with support as supposed to call me back and never did. It would also be nice to have sensor for the dust-debris compartment on the robot so if it does get full the robot will return to the bin and empty itself. So for me even at the sub $500 price point there were too many things that just did not work like they were supposed to. I
Ohhh yeah I was at 30 and decided to do a reset and clear the map and had to do an additional 11 cleaning runs before the map appeared. The map is ok maybe 95% representation, but I will keep the Shark for now and see if the software updates improve the robot.
Looks like the Homer Simpson of robot vacuums? I was going to buy the Shark as a Christmas present for my daughter, but I have seen nothing but poor reviews mainly due to mapping issues. Should I buy a robot vacuum with an IQ lower than a "very stable genius"? It also looked like a drunken sailor on the way to your bedroom.
Hahaha yeah the navigation might not look the best but it gets the job done. If you do have the extra cash I would look at the Roomba i7+ for $699, has better navigation, the ability to handle more dirt with its dirt detection sensor and the App has better stability. The Shark is good value with the self emptying bin if you can find it for under $400. Will have to deal with it’s navigation quirks and limitations.
My eufy got into a sticky mouse trap and im afraid im goona have to put in to hospice care. One u have a robot vac i cant go back...im really considering this shark considering i can find it for 300. Is there a way u could point me on the direction of some of these 300 promos please. Please please...thanks Ps there will be a aervice for my eufy he is survived by 1 stand up vacume and two floor models Thanks Mick
@@RobotMasters thank you. It's advertised as compatible with Alexa and Google Home but I can't find any info on connecting to Google Home. I have many devices connected to my Google Home account so I am very familiar with doing it, but I can't seem to find how to connect this robot. It says it's compatible so I'm assuming there's a way.
Open up your app (Shark vacuum app )then go to help then voice then download the voice app. You should see the option to link in there. Make sure you have the latest software from shark
Mine finally finished its map. I can use the app on my phone to get it to clean specific rooms but not using voice command with Google. Any ideas why? When I tell it to clean with voice, which is the only way I use it, it doesn't even follow the map either. What the heck.
@@RobotMasters It can only have one floor plan but it texts you a cleaning map summary every-time it is done and it only needs to clean the entire floor of a house once to get it and it will auto recharge to do it.
@@RobotMasters No problem. I was looking at the Shark IQ because of it's auto empty feature and wanted to see if it had no-go lines like my neato D4 or a similar feature. Thanks for the video.
I am doing good, I will eventually use a intro, haven’t decided what to use 🤔. I actually uploaded this video twice, the first upload had the ending cut short 😧.
are you able to give 5 thumbs up, at least that's what Shark Support told me, when you try to complete your map? For me, I can only give 1 thumbs up once the map is available (completion level 33%) in the "Home Map" section, and the Shark app then will ask me to "Create Rooms" but the map is not quite like my floor... Any tips help! Thanks in advance
@@RobotMasters so just delete the map when it's first available if it's not even close? how many iterations did you do? I am slowly losing my patience here with my Shark...
It seems you don’t really care for the shark IQ? I purchased the Roomba S9 plus right at the beginning of the pandemic I had to return the first unit because it kept throwing me error codes dust bin fall when it was empty stuck on a pretty much flat floormat or collecting way too much in the bin not being able to suck it out. I got my second one and it seems to work OK for a little while but then all the stores closed and the vacuum started doing exactly the same thing as the first one. Design brush fell apart in the first month all the bristles are gone the side brush doesn’t spin well on the carpet anyway so it’s kind of pointless. The extractor brushes are wearing quite fast. And I robot just keeps telling me to reset this or do this or whatever and refuses to give me my money back on $1000 piece of crap. This is the very first iRobot product I have ever hated. I will admit the shark IQ is not as high end and doesn’t have as many features but it’s like half the price and it does a really good job of cleaning. Most of the problems the robot has is software related and that can be fixed. I think the S9 plus has a lot of design flaws and that cannot be fixed by software. I’ll eventually do a review exposing all of the crap on the S9 plus as well as comparing it to the shark IQ that I’m now using and replacing my rumba with. I don’t think I’ll ever buy an I robot product again. Siri can’t spell right but I think U get what I’m saying
Thanks for sharing your experience. So in that video I did have problems getting the Shark IQ to map properly. I know later months after several software updates users were able to map in 1-5 cleaning runs instead of my 35+ runs. Anyways the price is good, cleaning performance very good and the self emptying bin system worked well.
Robot Masters yes after running the vacuum for its first run I did it on the eco-mode that way the battery would last longer and I could get the mapping done it asked me after the first run of my house whether the map looked correct or not and for the most part it hit every room and looked exactly like my house so I clicked the thumbs up button and had a map. The one downside is the way that it makes you divide up the rooms it wants you to use square boxes well what if your room isn’t exactly square I like the way I robot does it with just the divider lines because I’ve got some rooms where I’m going that’s part of the bedroom but I can’t get it in to the Square without including part of another room hope that makes sense
Robot Masters if you haven’t done an update video on the shark IQ you probably should to let everyone know that the mapping doesn’t take 30+ runs anymore. I’m hoping to have my reviews done within the next week or so
@@TiltedTripodMedia In my later Shark video I did talk about people saying their mapping was quicker. I currently don't have a Shark IQ right now so I can't verify this is correct. Also the complexity of the floor plan can affect how long it takes to map. So have you tested how reliable the robot goes to a selected room? Over time I noticed the map would loose it integrity and require a new map.
Hi Nathan, please give up on Shark. Those side brushes and maps are ridiculous. Even Amarey is better and lot cheaper 👍😀. Please test another unknown vacuum from amazon. Hugs from 🇵🇹🇵🇹👋👋
All right, maybe someone can help me on this. I have had my shark vacuum since April 2022. I have not been successful in finding videos to help me. I start from scratch, factory reset the robot and reinstall the app. I let it go on its initial run. It will run, return to the doc and charge then go back out without my prompting. Then it will go back to the dock. When I go into the app it shows me a usually incomplete map missing one or two rooms. I have the option to either delete this map and start over and repeat the process or accept the map. If I do the latter, the robot will run continuously on the schedule and never update with the rooms that failed to map on the initial run even if the robot managed to go in the rooms it missed. If I try to run it manually, the app does this weird thing where it will show me a more or less complete map, but the history and map features in the menu are grayed out and will not allow me to set my rooms for individual room cleaning. I am insanely frustrated because all I want is for the whole house to be mapped so I can send the robot to a specific room for spot cleaning. The robot itself does a good job well enough, but this mapping feature is engineered piss poorly. Am I missing something here. I also think the shark customer service people are morons, as they have repeatedly failed to even understand my concern. Turning to the UA-cam community on this
You can try to relocate the dock to a different part of the room. Make sure it up against the wall and is in an open area. How large is your area? If the robot get stuck or confused it best to delete the map and try again, especially if a room or two missing from the initial map. Usually now it should only take 1-3 mapping runs. If you are still having issues, hopefully you are within the return window. Look at DreameTech, Roborock or iRobot for more reliable mapping robots.
@@RobotMasters thank you for your comment. What do you mean by two or three mapping runs? Mine will do a run, then return to the dock around 60% battery, then it will go out but this time it will stay out until it runs out of battery. Is that considered one run or two runs? Is this thing supposed to just continuously go out on runs until the house is mapped? How do I know this process is over, other than getting the map when I open the app?
@@finalandreo You have the Shark IQ model? So basically the robot should go out 2-3 times and once it done the App will say map complete. I would try relocating the dock. The Shark mapping can be touchy
Glad it helped, the Shark not bad once you figured out the mapping process. Took me several tries to get it right!!!
Thanks, glad they helped 😂
Robot Masters after all that trouble, how can you say it’s easier to start than the Roomba? 🤔
boz1200m3d Only when using the Alexa device it easier on the Shark. So on the Alexa for the Shark I can say a single command like: Alexa tell Shark to Clean the Kitchen. Alexa will ask for the Robot name and will start cleaning.
I can’t say that command using Roomba. I have to go through several more prompts, take a little longer to start.
Robot Masters that’s because you have two Roomba vacuums on the same network. If you have just one robot, it won’t ask you. 👍
boz1200m3d Ohhh I never thought of that, makes sense thanks for the TIP 😂
For the initial mapping, make sure there is a lot of light. Mine mapped my entire floor plan in a single run.
Good to know, thanks for the tip.
Same
I have excellent lighting and I’m going on 14 runs and no map.
@@drdamico007 Idk mine mapped quickly. Is the firmware up to date?

Been a week, 15hrs, 38runs. Stuck at 34% complete!?
Shareef Yousef I would try to delete the map, reset the robot and start over. I had to do this at 30 cleaning runs. But once I did this the robot mapped in 11 cleaning runs. It a bug where the robot may not create the map.
I have the map complete and I made rooms in the app. How to I tell google assistant to clean a specific room?
ZupE891 On the Shark Specific Room Cleaning via voice is only on Alexa. Google Voice only allows basic start and stop commands.
Thanks for sharing your experience and tips and tricks 👍
4:00 The shark was like I don't want to go home! I am going to hide under the bed! :)
Hahaha the Sharkie being a Bad Little Robot 😒
Only took mine 8 tries to get a full map.
Doug Stanley mapping issues do seem to be resolved. Got my Shark IQ on the 8th and today was able to customize my map.
Wow they must’ve improved their software a lot, mine learned my floor plan in one run lol
Glad to hear they improved the software!!!
Damn... I ran mine 4 times and it mapped me house. Guess I got lucky
If you bounce around enough you'll end up in the right room. Sounds like college!
LoL hahahah so so true 😃
They aren't going to update anything, there is no money in updating firmware.
I’m in middle of figuring this thing out. Did you delete the map each time it was learning or will it actually add rooms it missed the previous rooms?
I know Shark has done a few software revisions after making this video. With that being said, the first map is the most important one. So the App will give you an option to thumb up or down. I would recommend deleting the first map if it looks nothing like your floor plan. If it close than keep the map and eventually the map will have more details.
Love mine. Spend 2 minutes to reset your floor so it's the same every time you clean. We put dining room chairs up restaurant style. We do this when we vacuum anyway. 👍
Glad the robot is working for you, I found it to be an excellent Cleaner
it mapped my 3 bedroom condo on the very first run...
Sweet looks like Shark fixed the mapping issue.
What do you mean four runs? Do you mean once you press the button it will run four times before it generates a map? Or do you set it on the schedule?
Andrew Roche, it starts mapping immediately when you first start it up. The mapping it seems us continuously updating.
The four runs is how many times it has to go back to the dock to empty. We have it set for 1/2 hour runs because our dog sheds a lot of fur and our home is 1400 square feet. We could set clean longer than 1/2 hour at a time. So yes, it has to return to dock four times because that is how we set it up. I hope that clarifies.
First, thanks for all the work you put into your videos! You really make it fun and spontaneous :D
Yeah, I got the Shark IQ last week and already had to delete the map LOL. What it got the first time after 7 or so cleaning runs was sort of correct (60% there), but I honestly thought it'd be best to start over from scratch since the layout was kinda jacked up. I'll leave it alone for a month though and see how accurate, or completely wrong, the map is then.
Thanks for sharing your experience. It seems like the mapping is quicker now with the new software updates.
You’re welcome 😊
Do you know if it recognizes tables and chairs, or does it mark them as walls on its map?

Yeah the Shark wasn't designed for a lot dirt, but as a maintenance cleaner it does fine. There a lot good deals on the Shark right now.

Thanks for the tip, and good work around for the longer names.
How do you set up multiple floors ?
The Shark IQ only supports 1 level
Mine mapped on its first day. It does an amazing job. Way better than what I do.
It took me a week to get the app to work with one of our phones. Had to do all kinds of updates, including the router. There's no sign that my Shark has been making a map, but it is much more effective getting the floors clean. Do I have to reset the whole robot to get it to map?
I have the shark EZ, like the IQ
but a bit different. It's been my 6th training run and its 2nd day here
30 runs in total, or after you reset it? If in total, then how many runs did it take to complete the map after you reset it?
Padlock Padlock It took 11 Cleaning Runs, just needed a reset, because I noticed the robot would get confused easily, or not return not the charger. The robot is working 100% better now!!!
Some said shark pushed out update to their software but not sure if he meant OS or App but he noticed the improvement.
KingLord It might of been the case with mine, but I don’t get a notification that my robot has been updated
Can I use mapping for multiple levels of my home? For Shark RV100 or Roomba 960?
The 960 yes, the Shark IQ no.
I got a decent map after my first cleaning, how come yours too over 30?

@@abe3367 ohhh not to bad, is your house large or complex aka furniture. Women smaller area people say their Shark mapped in 7 runs
Can this Vacuum make múltiples floors maps?
Not currently, only a single map
That correct, the first run should somewhat resemble the correct layout of your home.
@@RobotMasters ya I'm gonna keep deleting the map until it looks like my place. Shark support was wrong again

What would you recommend for a 3 level robot. I don't mind emptying my robot and would have liked Shark IQ to work for me.
The Shark IQ only supports 1 level. I would recommend the roomba i7+ amzn.to/31hfyWB
Or the Ecovacs t8+ amzn.to/3lUM6NU
Oh thanks should map in 11 or so cleaning runs
I've had my new IQ for a week, and has the stupidest map, missing so much. Am sure disappointed in mapping. It's been on a mapping run twice a day. Frustrating. PS, no obstacles...I spend more time ensuring no obstacles or corners to get stuck in pressure running the iq than getting out my shark upright! Lol. But, am soooo happy the iq cleans under my beds; that's awesome
Yeah that sucks, maybe Shark needs to keep working on improving the map.
Yayy)) finally😀😀
..but could you make a longer video about the map..when you were customizing the map you said the squares were too big to fit i rooms? What do you mean?🤔🤔🤔🤔
Daniel Suarez Yes I will do a more I’m in-depth video too 😁. Unfortunately the Map on the iPhone is being displayed really small, can’t zoom in to make the map bigger. So trying to make multiple rooms on a map the size of a couple finger width was difficult.

I’m liking mine at 1/2 the price of the Roomba, plus my last roomba didn’t work well at all getting clogged (dogs)
What do you do with the shark when it is at the opposite end of the house with a dead battery and stuck? Doesn’t that ruin the map to move it to the charging station?
Nope the nice thing about the Shark Map is once it created and saved, the map won’t get messed up or lost if you physically move the robot or furniture around. The only way for the map to get removed is if you physically delete it in the App.

They fixed their website, the Shark IQ $399 with self emptying bin.
Tks, looks like they are trying to give them away. Mine seems to spend an hour in my small dining room bouncing into the same wall. Stopping looking confused and bouncing into a wall again.
Stephen Thomas Yeah hopefully the upcoming software update mentions this.
Have there been any updates on this? Is the Shark working any better than it was before?
I sold my Shark IQ, so I don’t know if there been any major updates sorry I can’t be much of help.
I really like your reviews and I decided to give Shark a try. I have a small apartment and I lifted everything I could and he did a nice map pretty quick.
Thanks!!!

Does the shark know when it full and empty itself automatically. Then will it continue to go and clean room or just stay docked.
No the self emptying bin during a cleaning job on a timer. There no dirt detection of bin full sensor to alert the robot to go back to empty itself.

@@RobotMasters iq’s airflow is at 23 cfm and iRobot i7 is only 17 cfm???
Mine won’t continue to other spots after it runs out of the battery’s. It only does half the house
Do a video on sharks maintenance, i would like to see how it differs from my Roomba 595 cleanup. I do 4 times a year taking it apart and blowing out the dust. I know roombas gear box so how does sharks differ, do new video ever 5 minutes 😁
LOL I will try 🤔🤣
Clean up the master room
What's the name of the robot you plan to start?
Shark
5 seconds later
Shhhhh???
OK. Your bot is ready to clean.
hahaha
Hahaha yeah the voice assistant needed some improvements 👍
How many hours for mapping
It took 30 cleaning runs for the first time, I reset the robot and it mapped in 11 cleaning runs. Ideally it should map in 11 runs so around 11 hours or more
Help i have had my shark since December and it still hasnt mapped my house i can only see map in history
1:41 I like Shark's sound when robot goes o clean! :)
Needs more time to map...mine goes straight to rooms without bumping walls
@@RobotMasters we actually named it Shark Boi.
We had the roomba S9+. Went through two faulty models before giving up and going to a Shark.
Ohhh dang, hope mine survives 😬
My 595 used to be so gentle until updated the battery, now it just knocks stuff out of its way. Like a pirate blind in one eye
@@kinglord5429 it's so interesting when robots have different "personalities".
BAH! I've reset the map 3 times. After the 3rd time, on the first day, It finally captured the entire house for the most part. now 3 days later, the map has shrunk. It deleted 2 rooms from the map even though it just cleaned one of the rooms before returning to dock. Map seems to always be stuck at 33% :/
I wonder if a factory reset of the shark itself will help. :/
Yeah I reset the robot deleted the map, and also uninstalled the app and reinstalled again. I also found if the the first run if the map doesn't look right, the robot won't fully finish the map.
@@RobotMasters How big is your house? We're trying to get it to map just slightly over 2000sqft.
@@RobotMasters yeah we have all movable objects off the floor and all lights on when it is running. We're going to try again and reset everything
yunnie Hopefully it works this time around, I am on firmware 3.4
Dog owners- BUY IT!
I'm getting no help from Shark resolving the wifi issues with my cell. All of their videos tell you to call their 877 number BUT they're closed :-( Can you set up the Alexa to run it instead of the cell phone?
I called last night and got through was on hold 10 min
Just broke my Roomba. Do you recommend this?
What is your floor plan type, is it large, multi level. The Shark good for simple one level homes
@@RobotMasters small 2 bedroom apartment. I had the Roomba 600 series. Not sure which one. But I'm looking for something better than that
My god, your map looks like my map.
I 100% agree!!! Time for a major software update 😁
I think the shark will get there I could deal with it getting lost for $500 less lol and then not having to buy bags
There some great deals on the Shark around $300 😂
My eufy got into a sticky mouse trap and im afraid im goona have to put in to hospice care. One u have a robot vac i cant go back...im really considering this shark considering i can find it for 300. Is there a way u could point me on the direction of some of these 300 promos please. Please please...thanks
Ps there will be a aervice for my eufy he is survived by 1 stand up vacume and two floor models

Anyone have this connected to Google Home? Can't figure out how to connect it. Google home doesn't find the device.
I will look into this, and see if I can link it up
@@RobotMasters thank you.
I had the same problem. You link it via the GOOGLE ASSISTANT app, NOT the Google Home app. But once linked it will work with both Google apps.
I was gonna say mine had a map after the first use...
I am on my 41 times. Still no map
Dang might need to reset and try again. They updated the software, it should take 1-3 runs now.

I don’t have a map option ???
It for the Shark AI. Not sure if Shark will add a mop option in their IQ models. Also some AI models can be bought without the mopping option.
Mine finally finished its map. I can use the app on my phone to get it to clean specific rooms but not using voice command with Google.
Any ideas why? When I tell it to clean with voice, which is the only way I use it, it doesn't even follow the map either. What the heck.
The Room Select with voice only works with Alexa. Google Voice only support basic start and stop commands.
How to use the app to clean specific rooms? Mine doesn't seem to work
Nisha Sridhar Once you have a complete map should give you an option to create and select rooms. It took me 30 cleaning runs
Thanks... I finally got it to work!! Yes it did take a long time to map a 900sq ft area...
My neato D4 makes a floor plan every time I send it out which is every day.
Interesting, can you save maps on the Neato D4?
@@RobotMasters It can only have one floor plan but it texts you a cleaning map summary every-time it is done and it only needs to clean the entire floor of a house once to get it and it will auto recharge to do it.
@@Slacker28 I see, thanks for the info 👍

2.4 ghz
The documentation says it only supports 2.4G
are you able to give 5 thumbs up, at least that's what Shark Support told me, when you try to complete your map? For me, I can only give 1 thumbs up once the map is available (completion level 33%) in the "Home Map" section, and the Shark app then will ask me to "Create Rooms" but the map is not quite like my floor... Any tips help! Thanks in advance
Just keep trying it should look very similar on the first map run, if not start over or it will never look right
@@RobotMasters so just delete the map when it's first available if it's not even close? how many iterations did you do? I am slowly losing my patience here with my Shark...
@@kk_3354 Took me 32 times, but that was early software
@@RobotMasters Thanks! That's really helpful! I guess I will be more patient with my Shark then!
Robot Masters no I haven’t noticed that

Hi Nathan, please give up on Shark. Those side brushes and maps are ridiculous. Even Amarey is better and lot cheaper 👍😀. Please test another unknown vacuum from amazon. Hugs from 🇵🇹🇵🇹👋👋
Hahaha 🤣 Shark and I are best BUDS 😂
