Just wanted to add that I have made and used this several times now and my plants are incredibly happy! Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for the video. One year I planted a rose bush, and before I planted it I had to get rid of some dead minnows. So I dumped them in the whole. That was the best that rose bush ever did!!
Thank you- EXCELLENT video! I will be making your lactobacillus serum as well and then this, using free scraps from my local fishmonger. For those suggesting burying the fish, I agree that this is good (gives amazing tomato plants) but this fish emulsion is an amazing foliar feed and diluted, can safely be used on seedlings... even if the emulsion is strong. I bought some this year to use for the first time (it's expensive) and have become an instant convert! Amazing results! Thanks again.
U can make all of this with fish, sugar, epsom salt, little beer, and water in a five gallon bucket with holes drilled in the top set outside. Stinks when u open it for a while and stir then starts to smell sweet. No blender or anything else needed
Great and I am going to try at my garden. How long it will take to be ready for application? It appear the white foam and maggot after store few days. Do we need to stir during decomposition? Thanks!!
Have watched this video several times over the last few years, thanks for creating it! My store bought Hydrolysate will finish this year so I'm finally going to make some with my diy Lacto. Can you recall how many fish you used to make that batch or what the best ratio is? I know its the weight rather than the amount that is critical but I can guestimate.
Hi,i had already made fish emulsion, but without LAB,I have just completed the lab and added it to the F/E. The F/E already smells like death, started it on 7-3,but it was cold weather and nothing seemed to happen stink wise.It is now 3 months later,do i still have to wait for 3-4 weeks before i can use it? I added 60ml and 470 ml molasses to it,and have given it a good shake.
A rat managed to get in my fish emulsion (I don't have that kind of bucket so I used paper to cover a pail that I have here at home). The fish mix seems to be intact but it's got mold on top. Can I just remove the mold on top and continue with the fermentation?
Hello SD Farm Tech Expert, Pls let me know in more details of the uses of lactobacillus serum and Molasse (?) to ferment processed fish, Thank You. I planned to try out how to make fish emulsion at home to grow plants and roses. Kind Regards, TN
What would happen if I oxygenate it with an aquarium pump like we do for compost tea? Would that make the process faster or would that be a bad decision?
Thanks so much for sharing, been looking for this a while. Can i ask you if there would be a problem just feeding the plant with just the liquid fish instead of the whole thing? It is very hard to get molasses where i live...Thanks!
Absolutely! You can use the lactobacillus serum to ferment all kinds of nutrients. For example adding banana peels for a phosphorus rich nutrient. I'll make a video on it soon
I have many questions: 1) Is the first step necessary? I can separate the milk cords without using the rice wash by using some cheese making drops. 2) can I use any type of mollases? I mean there are grapes or other types other than this... 3) what can I use instead of the air locker to release the gases... I am confused about these things since I live in a different country and culture!
molasses is most likely for bacteria using energy (sugar) and the bacteria isnt really needed, i guess. its tons of it in organic material already also in other clips they dont destroy the fishes but adds citric acid
@@backyardgarden9230 Yes, but it will be a whole lot incredibally stinkier and you will probably need to refrigerate it to keep it fresh if you intend to keep it for a long time.
I know this may sound dumb, just out of curiosity, sir, can this also be applied in Hydroponics? Because your channel is basically about Aquaponics, and both are slightly different from each other. I really need to know your reply (ASAP, sorry for the rush) Thanks
Jee Kreesteene I would not recommend running this in a hydroponic system it's more ideal for soil gardens. This would really make your hydro system really dirty and smelly

DC S so there's 3 videos that were made on how to make the lactobacillus serum so just make sure you have watched them all. In those videos the lactobacillus serum is made and it is the milky liquid under the "moldy looking" thing, that is actually curds. It's similar to how cheese is made. To extend the shelf life of the serum I added molasses to it so allow the bacteria and yeast to feed on the carbohydrates in the molasses. The molasses is a very dark liquid so that is why the color looks the way it does
What would happen if someone drank that concoction? It is a kind of multivitamins and multimineral. Give it to the vegans and tell them its plant based.
You can use it in the same way as you water your plants, just add the solution to your watering can etc. I use mine mainly as a foliar feed though. This means I use less of the solution but get more of the benefits because the leaves of my plants take up the nutrients more efficiently. You need to set the sprayer to as fine a mist as possible so more of the solution is ingested rather than dripping off the leaves. Try and spray the underside of the leaves also as this is where the best ingestion takes place in many (if not all?) plants. Also, its best to feed early in the morning before it gets hot to prevent the solution burning or staining the leaves, and in the evening as the plant's take in more of the nutrients overnight and their is less chance of evapouration
Vlad The Impaler Țepeș III super cheap! Probably less then 10 bucks. If you have to buy fish, a bucket, a blender and things then it can add up but even then it's very affordable
$10/gallon? That's not cheap enough. When you consider you can buy a gallon for $15 if you shop around, it's not worth it to make it when you factor in your time. Now, if you use a shitload of it, then maybe it may be worth it but that depends on how busy you are. Time is money. At the end of the season, Walmart puts all it's gardening products on 50% discount or more. Got Alaska Fish Emulsion for $11.50/gallon.
Vlad The Impaler Țepeș III sorry I didn't answer your question correctly. To make the lactobacillus serum it's about 8 bucks to make 2.5 gallons. So if you have fish at your disposal it costs pennies per gallon
I did this a lot when I lived on a farm but I live in the city now and just buy it already made. Making fish fertilizer isn't always worth the effort I agree with that
Why don't you just bury the fish next to tree My dad and I did this in the 60's we would go fishing Redondo Beach California and the catch we would bury a whole fish at different trees and wow our apricot tree produced so much we couldn't pick them fast enough the tree split in half. true story.
Won’t this produce methane if left to ferment to long? It hating hence it’s a very informative video but seeing that you put that in your garage I think I just would hate for you to leave it to long and one day either blow your house to shreds or die from inhaling it.
I wish you would have said why you were doing anything, what this stuff wa s for, what these extra goodies from using the whole fish, why the serum and sugar kickstart the fermentation. I don’t like info that just expects you to trust the messenger. I’m going to watch your lacto bassilica (?) vid but so far, thumbs WAY down.

You can also chop up the fish really fine and Bury near your tree and let it compost on it own and it's still good, my friend do that
This is an Aquaponics channel
Unless you have racoons in your area, then you just end up with a bunch of holes around your tree.

Could you substitute Cane Sugar for molasses ?
