Man! His guitar here is quite simply a universal language; what he chooses to say on it is unmistakeable. We all know right away, as soon as we hear the first notes: Climb on board with the magic.
To johnny197744.... as a guitar player who has studied technique and theory since the age of 14 (51 now), for you to say E.C's technique is he way beginners really play..... I would LOVE to see a beginner play like that!!!!! Not only is his right hand strong with a plectrum, playing both rhythm and lead, but it also strong doubling up, ie. holding a plec and picking also.... but his left hand is flawless.. transitions between notes and chords are insane.... he doesn't use OTT effects... I'm thinking you're either a slash fan or 'The Edge' fan!!!
I love the Blonde! I don't care how old she is now. Course she might care how old I am.Haha But yrs, this video version of Eric playing "Pretending" is the best!
Imagine being the guy with green guitar who has to stand in the dark and do the lead guitar part note for note when Eric sings. If you do your job correctly, nobody will notice you. But hey, you get to play with some of the best musicians in the world, so it's probably still pretty fun.
Alister Junior I did not know that! Funny thing, though, I am aware that the original "Blackie" was very worn. In fact, just plain worn out. And so, at the back of my mind I was questioning the truth of my statement at the time that I made it. Thank you for the correction, Alister Junior.
Alister Junior I double checked the original "Blackie" on UA-cam. I think, Alister Junior, you have "Brownie" in mind referencing your statement, "Blackie is actually not black...". It's black, alright. Fender did a reproduction of the original Blackie Stratocaster and the viewer has a good look at Clapton's guitar as it is pulled apart and examined. Though this Strat sold at auction for an enormous sum of money, it is now virtually unplayable. Played out. For the record, I'm fairly certain that my original statement was indeed correct. Clapton is using Blackie on this live version of "Pretending", from 24 Nights. (It happens to be Blackie ii - Fender's reproduction model created especially for Clapton.)
+John Constantinides Thank you, John Constantinides. It's always a lot of fun discovering the instruments played by our guitar heroes. I am aware of the Pewter Prototype but had no idea that this particular guitar had been modified.
+John Constantinides I've enjoyed the playing of all three. I recall as far back as 1986 getting the chance to see Jeff Healey by sheer accident. One beautiful July night walking along Bloor Street West in Toronto and stopping off for a beer at The Brunswick House only to see The Jeff Healey Band. They were loud! and he was good. I had no idea of the story behind Clapton's modernized Blackie. I'll be checking out J.W. Black and, of course, Michael Stevens. Only now have I heard of Stevens Guitars. I briefly checked out his web site and will be taking a closer look. Seems like a fun site with a lot of Michael Steves guitar history. Thank you, John!
Thats your opinion and you're entitled to, most people disagree. The thing that kills me is you dont like him but here you are watching his music. I don't like rap music that why I'm not watching and making stupid remarks about it. Oh and by the way i forgot????? what BAND are YOU in??????????????????????
The second solo on this version is absolute rubbish - compared to the CD version. The closing solo on the 24 Nights CD is a MASTERPIECE. Why didn't they include it in video form? I have no idea, and it's a shame. This version is really poor.

Eric is smoking on this one firing on all cylinders Clapton at his best!!! In the zone!
EC is just rolling on this one, whoa mama! Drummer is super solide but then the whole band is simply on.

She wrote a book few years ago
The backup singers at 4:48 give me goosebumps.
Great looking women too.

I'm sure he's played with Dire Straits. On their 1992 tour, maybe? He looks familiar.

@@NToombes Thanks for the info!
Clapton is god¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
I do believe that is "Blackie" Eric Clapton is using. Two icons: one, a work of art, and the other - an artist.
Blackie is actually not black and way more worn than that one, not blackie here

THE SOLDANO YEARS
And Lace Sensor Gold pickups
Incredible tone!!!!
Grandissimo Eric, ma gradissimo anche Phil Palmer con la seconda chitarra. Le versioni live senza Phil sono banali.
MissEgas > you are incredible dull
@ex2dx a lot of users have problems with copyright :_(

No one cares how technical his fingers are if they sound like this
Who says what "correct technique" is?? Love the way he plays with 4 fingers on his left hand... But never the pinky- always the thumb.
Yeah....okay.
Read my notes. World. Bye!
You're way out of you're field. Stay home.
What a load of dirge you say.
great intro but then the number descends into a "pretending not to be carnival music but is" part which totally ruins this piece of junk number.
leider nur mono ! :-/

YOU SAY THAT AS U DON'T KNOW THE TIME AND WORK THAT WENT INTO THIS MASTERPIECE
