- Going over some of the details of my Sick Bike Parts Shift Kit. It took far too long to put together.

keep up the good work bud. building is the best part of this hobby. Just a tip from my build, I re positioned the drive chain behind the bike chain and the chains didn't collide anymore for me. Be safe, bike life!
I think I've seen a few ppl use like a banjo plate to mount the tensioners on for a cleaner look but whatever works for you is all it has to be! these engine kits are always fiddly and sometimes fussy but you get a good idea what they need after the first one you do

Congratulations on the Bike
Quick tip if you're not using it already, rubber fuel grade hose and clamps. Doesn't fail as easy as plastic. Check with NAPA auto parts they sell it by the foot and its fairly cheap. Same place for clamps.

I had one of these on mine and it was just the finickiest thing I ever experienced. I finally tossed it after riding down the road at about 40 the chain on the jackshaft decided to explode

How are you..congrats on this build..i bought a chineses kit a while back and just couldnt get it to run no matter how much i tinkered with it..very impressed..just bought a phantom 85 for my shwinn and cant wait to install it and get back into it..does this bike still run? If you send down the area that the Post starts sits in end clean A play a little grease in there it will pull smoothly.
Ohh so a shift kit is how you get the power to the pedals can this give it a higher top speed? Do the peddles spin fast with it or can you keep them still ?
The pedals are on their own freewheel that comes with the kit so they only grab in the direction you pedal in.

I always buy 2 of everything. Sometimes you just have to experiment.
Use a bmx chain from shaft to freewheel works 100% better that 415 chain is not made for that sprocket
good recommendation
just buy an actual motorcycle 415 it will support the 3 hp much better than any bicycle chain as no bicycle chain is made to support 3 horsepower for at least 5 minutes, i had my setup loose and the chain went up between the sprocket and spokes at 30 and i didnt had any problems xD maybe with the spokes tho anyways the same thing happened to me with those cheap motorized bike chains and it broke the chain 1 out of 2 times when it happened, sorry for the shitty english im portuguese and i havent practiced much latelly xDD

How fast does it go
Wait so are you still able to hold the clutch in to pedal or does the clutch not work when you add this I’m confused lol. I’m only asking because the clutch is fun to use, and it’s easy to start since all you have to do is just pop it out and start the bike especially on a. Cold day
Yes you can hold the clutch in to pedal. I don't remember if you can still bump start the bike or not but I prefer the pull start. It's easier for testing things since I don't need to go anywhere to fire up the bike.
I think you need to pedal to start it, because the cassette just rathchets if you're not pedalling
it just looks over thought but thats just me. the star thats drawn with all the rectangular lines is easier to to draw than the other one but more complicated from the looks of it lol if that makes any sense at all.i retract this statement well thought out great job
Great explanation though as I didn't know anything about it either and went through a have always been good at tinkering on 2 strokes got that thing mean in the engine to really run when you change the car braiders the 1st thing and intake just like on anything for 2 stroke you put a different pipe on it that makes one heck of a difference after you get a good carb for it and it has a good intake The engine kit suck my horse I can't remember the full name Crazy Horse I don't remember but anyway that is I feel the best set up for the generic setup engine compared to that other stuff they're making now
how long does the chain last if you are hard or soft on the throttle?
Haven't broken one yet. The engine isn't powerful enough to hurt the chain.

This may seem like a dumb question but why do people put on shift kits? Does it go faster?
They can go faster. I like being able to take off from a stop in first gear without really pedaling, climb hills easier, and cruise at a lower RPM.
Hopefully by now you’ve finally got the set screws in place.!.

Actually safer than regular gas bikes it puts 2 free wheels between the motor and the rear wheel. Usually when a motor blows the rear wheel will lock up because it is direct drive after the clutch
I had bought one of sick bike parts kit and ended up throwing it away cause it didn't work right on the motor and bike I had at the time.
I think i would die if i put a shift kit on mine🤣 without disk breaks i just stick my foot in the back tire LOL
That's a perfect example of how to complicate the hell out of something that's very straightforward and what's with the parts of washers the hose clamp and everything else when that stuff let's go and all those bits and pieces are binding up against each other and like your whole Driveline just seizes up in one instant you're going to be one hurting unit take all that stuff off and save your life

your head gasket should be turned 90 degrees to let air go through the fins. great bike though!

Dude you got the engine in their sideways! You got that all cockeyed the engine needs to be straight readjust clamps motor mounts! The drive chain are on a bind!
the hole in the gear is threaded for a set screw. it would stay on and you could get rid of that hose clamp
I went to war many times with the set screws. Hose clamp and woodruff key turned out to be the most reliable solution.
The set stew can be purchased most large hardware store
I know. They all rattle out. Hose clamps worked better

I'm about to put an engine on mine.. but it doesn't have multiple gears on the outside and a derailer .. the gears are all in the hub.
Did u end up getting it going???..I had the same vision of a jackshaft kit with 3 speed internal hub
I have the 80cc on the same bike and its great
80cc is really just 66cc

Your gears are right. 17T on the left side, 10T on the right.
Hey! I got the same bike frame as you! I’m considering a jack shaft kit for my build, you think I should install one? I plan on buying a Chinese one.
Don't buy the Chinese one. I thought I could figure it out and failed miserably. Get the Sick Bike Parts Kit and tensioner.
It's only worth it if you like tinkering, want to cruise at a lower RPM, and not be as reliant on pedal power when taking off from a stop.
I gained nothing in terms of top speed.
@@kelso840 I love tinkering. Hell, I practically take my engine apart after every ride lol. I’m starting to reconsider as the price is high and I’m better off stock. Have any other suggestions? Thanks.
@@Farmtractor I'm considering port matching my intake and exhaust to get a bit more top end power. You're right about cost. I have way too much money in that bike.
It's "reliable" enough that I don't want to make too many changes and spend more time fiddling than riding.
You should get a pull starter if you don't have one already. People say they're junk but I tightened the screws on mine and use it tenderly and it works great.
@@kelso840 it will hit my crank arms though.. I would get one. I also plan on porting my build.
@@Farmtractor ahhh. Right. The shift kit comes with different crank arms that give some extra clearance. Good catch.

Any reason everyone installs their head sideways? The cooling fins should be with the direction of the wind so you get more air passing through them. Sideways I can’t see you get any, it would hit the fin and turbulence would make it go haywire and you wouldn’t have as efficient cooling.
Only reason I can think is it's a 50/50 chance if you don't know any better, which I didn't at the time. It doesn't cause immediate or obvious harm so I'm still running it sideways a couple summers later.

@@kelso840 should swap it around fam also give you a chance to clean your piston and head up im sure you have carbon in it

Not really. It's still helpful to pedal from a dead stop but the engine can move the bike from zero if you're in first gear.

It's a standard China kit. 66 or 80cc.
@@kelso840 so you got the larger motor,, here in west virginia we have to keep the 50cc to ride on the main roads and be legal , 50cc and under no license required. larger you have to have a motor cycle license.
I haven't used any of the motorized bikes I have in years but I have many different types of styles of bicycle all the same engine I chose from China's wondfrom china there's one that's I feel 1 of the better ones but anyway the speed is what hurts the stock chain I was eating up chain left and right have a friend that builds bicycles and got bills bicycles and got me a bag of master links but they break because of the tension on 1 of my bikes ago over 55 . But then you're burning up the barrens and the wheels of the tires cause they're not made for that kind of speed
Why did you even put that pull starter kit on it? Cause when you put that kit on it, it becomes a kick started motor on a bicycle. I'd like to like to say is a MMB motorized mountain bike.
Unless we're in a court of law I don't see it as a fundamentally transformative modification.
Just use a impact power drill to start it

Aye, I've gone through a back wheel after my chain tensioner was bent into my spokes and again the other day, front brakes sheared the rim and locked up the front wheel, certainly didn't tickle when I went over the bars at 50kmh
Forgive my noobish ignorance but why not skip the entire jackshaft kit bs and just use the bottom bracket/ crank as the jackshaft by putting large drive sprocket on left side, to just go straight down from motor sprocket and leaving the stock right crank in tact?'
In other words, just like stock engine drive setup except output sprocket moved forward from left side of rear wheel to left pedal. Would seem a lot lighter and less complicated other than having to replace left crank arm, (which you're already doing to the right side otherwise). What restrictions are there??
That's an interesting thought. You would probably still want this crank because it has an additional freewheel built into it so your pedals aren't directly connected to the motor.
I bet your could work if you found a rear wheel that had the gears on the left side.

no, don't need rear wheel with gears on left side. it would transfer power through the crank to the right side as it is. just like the stock situation does putting the sprocket on the left side of rear wheel, you can still pedal shift. but instead of rear wheel, put it on left side of crank somehow.
@@Thrashaero I think I see what you're saying now.
You would need to come up with a freewheeling drive gear for the left crank arm so you aren't forced to pedal at the motor's RPM but I think your idea could work.
@@kelso840 Right just take the right side freewheel crank and put it on left. probably needs reversed direction of pawls ofc and maybe different width dimensions but that's all that's needed, not extra sprockets, axle, bearings, and flanges to hold what's essentially already on the bike (bottom bracket)
@@Thrashaero totally stealing this idea!!! Gonna see what I can come up with using a freewheel for both sides...but as of now, all I can come up with is the sbp kit has the freewheel on the right side of the crank spinning around the crank to keep from having to pedal. I imagine it could be done but would have to do something about where to put my feet and how to start the engine.

Seeing this monstrosity, if I ever buy one of these kits, it's gonna go with a 3 or 5 gears within the rear hub, so it's not these tiny little chain that takes all the torque.
Dude your piston head is on wrong. The fins are soposed to be parallel with the wind. The wind flows through the fins and cools your engine

Make sure it’s not bent in any way, and is going in the direction of the motor spinning. If it’s backwards it will come off every time
