How to play the drums. In this weeks lesson we have a look at an epic sounding and cool looking drum fill that was often used by Led Zeppelin stickman - John Bonham. It is a L-R-Kick 16th note triplet pattern with a sweet voicing and some crossover work in there too. Enjoy!
You will also find links to my facebook page and twitter, as well as xbox live if you are a gamer like me. Hope you enjoy it, feel free to leave a comment and subscribe if you haven't already. Cheers. Alex =)
Your probably the best drum teacher I've found on UA-cam. You break everything down and repeat it where it's easy for me to keep up. Keep up the great work.
Dat kit
Dem posters
Dat awesome teaching ways
Kewl beans, mad props
You can hear in the Dazed and Confused recording that he plays 2 notes on the snare at the beginning of the triplets.
I like the breakdown format pattern...thanks man for sharing your talents😊 great video Keep'em coming...
Bloody brilliant lesson. I've been searching for something like this for my whole drumming career (of 8 months!)
I'm teaching myself how to play drums for recording purposes and this is just what I'm looking for. Thank you!!!
You are the best drum teacher on UA-cam:)
I looking forward for another cool drum fill.
That's one seriously sick drum fill

I like very much your fills.I have the same kit with a super sensitive snare.Thank's Alex! Philippe from Cognac(France)
Never realised it was Bonham. I kind of discovered it myself as I really love the sound triplet kicks so I did something similar to this where in sextuplets I'd play the hi-hat/ride followed by snare then followed by the kick.
Gettin ma electric drumkit at Xmas, can't wait to try this out. Thanks Alex! :)
Thanks for the lesson loved It going to the kit.Keep up the great work.
Awesome tutorial. Great break down of an awesome lick. Subbed! Thanks!
thank you!
Beautiful kit! Sounds fantastic
Commented before I heard the snare! Kit sounds so sweet, but the pop in the snare is damn awesome! Is that a new snare, or just new skins/tuning? Great lesson too dude
22cwheels22 Thanks for the comment, The snare is the usual one. Its a 14 by 7 Orange County vented snare in maple. Got a real crack to it!
Thank you SOOOOO Much!!! This rocks!!
Like your t-shirt bro. Love Famous Stars and Straps. 👍🏽
Your kit sounds great.
This was a lot of fun! Thanks!
Hey Alex, I've recently started upgrading my kit and I've just got my toms and bass to go. I was wondering if I could some advice on what make or size to get? Thanks a lot anyway and awesome vid as always. Well done man!
cheers dude! It is entirely up to you. If you want a BIG sound, go for a 13" rack and 18" floor, I use a 12" rack and 14" Floor, but 16" floor toms sound good as well. In this video the kit is a 12" rack, 16" floor and a 20" Kick drum. What make are you looking at?
Very cool, but you make it look so easy..
As you mention at end, others have run with this. I've been recently learning some ZZTop songs and FB throws this one in a lot for his bursts, sometimes as triplets and sometimes with 16th rest.
this is really helpful. thanks alex!
best lesson on youtube for bonham triplets.
thank you.
You're insane. I love it!
much easier to count 16th note triplets with 1tata and tata2tata and tata 3tata and tata 4tata and tata. 8th note triplets count one and uh 2 and uh 3 and uh 4 and uh. This was taught to my teacher by Elvis Jones, Jeff Porcaro, David Garibaldi and ALL agreed on that he said and it's worth trying if u have a hard time counting especially 16th note triplets it's the only way 2go above IMHO Thanks for great video!!
This snare is so sweet..
thank you for the video sure i'll enjoy this
Brilliant !!
Hey I love your vids you are very good at breaking it down which has really helped me learn thanks. Recently I got a double bass pedal my left foot is not nearly as strong as my right and gets tired very easily, I just wanted to know if you knew anything to help build up my left foot. Thanks I subed
Play as much as possible with your left foot. Get a bass pedal practice pad and do repetitions of just using your left foot to hit the pad. You can do it while your on the computer or even while watching tv. Also playing constant 8th notes with your high hat pedal, while your playing your kit can also help strengthen your left leg and foot. Hope that helps.
This is awesome, thanks!
Though it's really that two-kick combo on the one (and right before it) that's the tricky part. I'm still trying to get my foot speed up to do that.
Bonham #1
Hey i know this comment is a little late but when i learned to do triplets i did my right hand then kick then left is that ok?
What type of drums are these? Like I know they are ludwig but what kind of ludwigs?
Im not sure if I am spelling this correctly, but the are called Ludwig Vistalites.
You drums are gorgeous. Where did you get them? Or rather, what model are they?
cheers, I wish I actually owned this kit. It is a 1970's Ludwig Vistalite. It was an Ebay purchase.
And the DrumSheet? 🤔
Is more Easy To Learn with a DrumPart
It would be even better if you can film from above your head so we can see your hands better
Joe Rico check the recent videos 😉
@@AlexRibchester OK I now see said the blind man. Excellent job🤘
