I’ve taken an ergonomics class before, the professor said that to achieve a neutral position *for the eyes* , the middle of the screen should be slightly below eye level (15 degrees). You won’t be looking down per se, it’s just the most comfortable position for the eyes to focus on average.

I learned the L-shape for typing in the 1980s. I've been a secretary/typist for 40 years and I think that has kept me from having carpal tunnel unlike my friends.

Never heard about this L-shape, what are you referring to?

    • @carolynf384

@@lucasterable Sitting, your arms are to your side and your forearms are straight out. I have a keyboard board that I put on my lap and type with my arms at an L shape. The wrists are straight out, not flexed up or down. I saw something in the 1980s about that's the perfect way to type so you have no injuries - I worked for a Workers' Compensation attorney which is probably why I was told.

@@carolynf384 Hi Carolyn, I'm currently trying to do the L shape technique when typing. I've put my keyboard on a flat pillow on my lap like the lapboard shown on this video. I just wanted to ask, in the L shape, do your forearms or wrists rest on your work surface while typing? Or are your hands and forearms floating while typing? Thanks!

    • @carolynf384
      @carolynf384 2 роки тому

@@DCAchtung Resting. I got a board that has a little raised area along the front, kind of like what you can put on the keyboard. My wrists lie on it. And my forearms are at my sides with my elbows lying against my hips, that keeps everything in an L position.

Hey Fadumo Hiray! If they don’t get back to you, soon, try a yoga move called legs on the wall!!! It is awesome!!! You literally scooch up to a wall and lay down on the floor and swing your legs up onto the wall!!! Or if you have a bed next to a wall, lay on the bed and bring your bottom right up to the wall and swing the legs up. I stand a lot and love this move! I do it for a few minutes, while brushing my teeth at night. Would love to hear what the guys say too!! Have a happy new year!! 🎆

Your videos are always helpful for just about everyone. My lower legs are too short to put anything on my lap without everything sliding off. Any suggestions?
Also, I've had MS for 18 years and turned 47 on December 23rd. Over time, my body has been through tons of things, causing me to feel decades older.
Many of your videos can help us but not all. I'm wondering if you'd be willing to create content for my community but there's also many other communities that by doing certain videos you do that might cause more problems doing things how you show vs seeing how to modify them and get the same, similar, or you advise there's no modification available so they shouldn't do it or ask their own PT, trainer, Neurologist, massage therapist, etc.

Here's a good exercise for computer pain: Lift your laptop in one hand and raise it over your shoulder, or as far back as possible - a half 'W". With the other arm/hand, open the window...........then let it rip. If we threw these lousy computers as far as we can, our lives would be better for it.

Brad, your thought that the letter W, "double-U" really should be a "double-V" is a reality in several languages!
In many Germanic languages (for instance Danish, Norwegian, Swedish), as well as in languages derived from Latin (like Italian and Romanian), and even in Finno-Ugric languages (like Finnish and Hungarian) the letter W is referred to as a "double V".

I would recommend using eye drops when you start getting eye strain. I've noticed the problem usually is from trying to look left and right quickly with dry eyes. Also decreasing the brightness well below 100%. I keep most of my laptops at 0% and only turn it up when I'm in bright areas.

Blink. The screen causes us to stare and loose track of time, leading to dry, strained eyes.
Use the same stretch intervals for eye exercises.
Brightness as you described, and be aware of the contrast between the screen and what is behind it.

The computer chair over 5-10 years is capable of insidiously inflicting very serious damage upon your body. It's happened to me, and I even seen healthy people becoming almost incapacitated.
So any advice is to be welcomed. The earlier it's heeded the better. It really is sneaky the way the harm creeps up on you. Your wrists, your arms, your neck, your shoulders, your lower back, your legs, your ankles, your feet. Not easy to reverse either.
