I did this to my car and wow what a difference! One thing I can say is I will always use clamps if I do it in the future. I cut and welded on the first muffler and clamped the second. The clamp did a better job at covering it and was MUCH faster. The only reason I did not clamp the first muffler was fear of it coming loose but after installing it I have worries.
That's a lot of work, but retaining the Mild to Wild almost seems worth it. I love the sound of LS engines! It's my favorite over Any other engine......
I wish you would have made some comments at the end about how long it took and your thoughts on the sound and mod itself (especially since the camera doesn't pick up the difference nearly as well). I have straight pipes on mine, but I'd like to get a cheap set of factory Z06 mufflers to throw back on there so I can control the noise coming home late at night. What now bothers me is I didn't realize there was a 2 1/2" bottleneck in the factory mufflers... BTW, why didn't you just just use pipe clamps rather than welding it?
Those are good points. Exhaust videos are difficult for that reason. A better camera mic may be in my future for more of these videos. But I will also add my thoughts in for the viewer to get a better understand of the sound. I am bias toward the sound of corsa muffler, but they are not in everyones budget. Id say this is your best option for the price and to maintain the dual mode. Takes about 30min to remove the mufflers, 2-3 hours to do the mod and 30min back in. Yes the c6z mufflers are not a true 3" as they are choked right before the can down to 2.5" A few people have mentioned pipe clamps now. I didn't really think of that at the time, but reflecting back I don't think clamps would be a good idea. If one were to vibrate loose or possibly fail due to the heat cycling then you would have to cut the can open again to repair it. Weld it once and be done with it.
Attempting to resurrect this video in an attempt to get some answers. I’m going to do this mod soon in some form or fashion. Love your videos and I think you do great work. 👍 Do you think this mod could be accomplished using two exhaust clamps and then tack weld the bolts so it doesn’t come loose inside the muffler? That way you would only need to cut into one side versus both.
the way I did it, I only cut a window in one side of the muffler. but yes, I think you can use clamps also. tacking the bolt would also be a good idea as you mentioned so it doesn't come loose. good luck with your project and let me know if you have any more questions. cheers!
Muffler Surgery: Make it better, meaner, more powerful than it used to be! Wondering what other factory mufflers can benefit from the same type of modification! I'm curious what the differences would be for a 19 Challenger ( and price?) , if you're for it...( let me know, I live 10 min away) 👍
That would be interesting! I would get your hands on a take off / throw away set of mufflers from someone upgrading. Then we can cut them open and see whats going on inside, and if there is some gains to be made. Send me a message on IG @southfloridagearheads
i bought a 2010 ZR1 with cherry bomb style mufflers already installed on it. It sounded good with stock headers and cats but after installing long tube headers and deleting the cats it is just too dam loud! Like seriously loud! What is your guys opinion on me installing Z06 mufflers but without the MOD? i ask this because if my goal is to silence the car wouldn't i want the perforated muffler tube? let me know what you all think i want to fix this asap. Thanks
Nice video!! Sounds good. I’m in the process of doing a full build on my C6Z. Feel free to check it out. I subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for checking out the video! Yeah, it sounds pretty good for stock. We have done a few c6z video's on the channel if you want to check those out. Let me know if you have any questions. You can follow us on instagram also!

Always look forward to your new videos.
Thank you and glad you are enjoying them!
Awesome Video, Much appreciate it
Congrats on 2K Subs boss man!! Keep em coming.
Wow! Impressive! Not the sound difference, but your detail to work! 👍
Clean work.
That's pretty badass.. Comparing that to my muffler I kinda wish I had the valve system still on mine.
What muffler did you go with?

Thanks!
these cars make those loud crackle pops stock? man i need to get my muffler mod done
this is bone stock except this mod so yes.
Big difference in sound with the valves open. But how about when closed? Does this mod change the sound in the "mild" position?
no that path is not effected by this mod. same as stock.
Hey man is your car stock or does it have cables exhaust and cam it sounds nice.
stock just this mod done

@@southfloridagearheads will do! Thnks!
How did you get around to welding the botttom portion of the added shells without cutting windows on both sides of the exhaust?!
I cut windows on both sides.
Nice!
Sick!👍
What would a muffler shop charge to do this?
around $200 I would say.
You cut the pipe in half there where the material is missing.
The width of the cut off wheel.
that could account for it
twice

yes a stock set of mufflers may be a good setup for you. I'm not sure where you are located but I have a set off my 2009 C6Z06.
Curious, did you put the insulation back in the muffler ?
yes, it prevents the exhaust from sounding hollow/tin like. Advise I got from some others who left it out thinking it would make it louder.
Would this be similar sound to a “muffler delete”
no this is more refined. muffler delete in my opinion sounds horrible.
Wait till you get long tubs it will be way louder
should of tapped the tubing on more. 2.5" is correct
Would you do mine?
send me a message on IG
I.d and o.d. Fab 101
bit of an oversight there haha! brain wasn't firing on all 8 that day.. cheers!
na man long tubes and a xpipe over this all day

Dope project but that’s a lot of work
Yeah probably wouldnt do that again!
Seems excessive. Would have been easier to cut the perf pipe and replace it
meh - muffler delete for the win
