There is also a version of the scaffold end frames that is adjustable, anywhere from 3 feet to 5 feet, so that it would not leave a gap depending on which size mattress you selected. Most stores don't stock it, but usually the pro desk can order them in for you. With the 5 foot frames, if the goal was to re-use as much as possible, it may have been better to simply purchase a second (and third) scaffold deck. 3 of them would be just under 60 inches, which would be the size for a queen mattress.
I think it depends on your weight and how much time you watch Netflix on it, also be careful cause if you fall asleep while watching Netflix you might fall down the bed and brake your neck
He’s working on it, you might check out the modern maker podcast, where he talks about the zoning and permitting process he is having to deal with right now, it is a pretty neat way to keep up with Ben on a weekly basis
I can imagine this design becoming the next college fad, especially for art students, you can hang an easel off of one outside end; just a thought. Another great idea.
I've always wanted a loft bed. Especially due to my small house I think it'd be great because of the usable space underneath when you need every inch of space in your home for storage and stuff.
Chuck Ellis You should have side rails for a child’s bed and a loft bed can be built just as cheaply and probably more sturdily using dimensional lumber.
I’m trying to figure out how to develop and build my own portable loft bed with ease if disassembly. This is so inspiring that I’m willing to try some semblance of the design. The only thing that I didn’t like aesthetically was the stabilizing crossbars in the back, but the ingenuity and innovative transformation/repurposing was very convincing. I think I may reconsider using scaffolding to achieve my LEGO loft bed design because of all the options you presented. Thank you. 👌💪🏽✅
Really cool design, but you should make sure the mattress is able to ventilate from the bottom. If a mattress is put on a closed of surface like you did here there's a high risk of mold forming inside the mattress.
You could also add the other x-brace in the front and just enter the "loft" area underneath through the sides, too. But this is a really awesome idea, especially if you're in a temporary living space. Awesome stuff!
Saw your guest appearance on This Old House. A tough crowd to impress. We are going to adapt your plans for an outdoor concrete + cedar kitchen island to make a smaller bathroom vanity to fit a sink we got for next to nothing at a Habitat for Humanity Restore. Your designs are great. Thanks
Simpli Safe needs some scorpion and spider detectors if you're in the desert Ben. Also, that alarm demo set my two dogs off lol. This is great I've wanted a loft bed since my apartment off-campus is tiny :(

is that bed strong enough for netflix and chilling 😂😂
Raven Shade don't think he knows what netflix and chill means
That's what the silicone caulk was for. To reduce the rattles during netflix and chill

well i mean if you dont fall off...
Raven Shade It might break due to shaking
PLEASE film the build of your new house. PLEASE!
He is. Check out his podcast where he talks about it more.

This would be really good for small apartments, minimalists and minimalists with small apartments
Great idea but I would drill a few holes in the plywood to give the bottom of the mattress some ventilation so it doesn't get funky and moldy.
Gopher it
This is going to be so much cheaper than buying a queen size loft frame.

Your design idea, I mean.
I did this in my dorm room in 1983. There are no new ideas under the sun it seems.
This channel is going to make New Yorker go nuts, specially the ones who live in the city.
Never liked scaffolding more. Awesome!!!
Looks amazing but wont the pipe legs leave horrible marks in the floor?
After some netflix and chilling XD
flexxarnnn but pads on it
Put some tennis balls on the end of it, maybe
Put a foam pad on the bottom.
It's a rental. Probably doesn't care.
That bedside table was inspired!! Awesome
this was one of your best videos and most clever use of industrial supplies. Thanks for the idea!
I've always wanted a loft bed. Especially due to my small house I think it'd be great because of the usable space underneath when you need every inch of space in your home for storage and stuff.
I wouldn't trust my self sleeping in there, I would most likely fall off the bed during the night, even with that rail installed 🤣
This is a great idea! I was thinking of doing a loft bed for my daughter's room when she's old enough. This would make it super easy.
Chuck Ellis You should have side rails for a child’s bed and a loft bed can be built just as cheaply and probably more sturdily using dimensional lumber.
"guys we're out of scaffolding".. "fear not... come with me to the bedroom"
10/10 Would build, if i had power tools and hands.
this comment made my day!
Darkwolf 349 hahhah
Jeff Moore god dammit Jeff!
I love those chucks!
DAMN. I needed this video like a year ago! I love it!
I'm so doing this. I have like a studio and this will save space. Thanks
The wardrobe thing makes it look chic.
Exactly i guess that's just for the portrait of how it looks otherwise that is a very minimal wardrobe very less people would have it
That's even cooler then how you described it on the podcast! Awesome job!
It’s 11:25 and I’m watching a video about how to make a loft bed from the comfort of my loft bed
This idea is AWESOME... and dare I say EPIC!
HomeMadeModern makes the best commercials I've ever seen *no sarcasm intended.*
How would you make a platform for a full size mattress? Great idea and video!
I’m super tempted to do this... it would also give me an excuse to get a double mattress.
Awesome idea best in years

Great secondary use for scaffolding... I have some old scaffolding behind my garage, I might need to clean it up and build something w/ it! 🤓👍
smart and creative. i like the idea. keep on keeping your bar high.
Man, u r my new hero! This idea was just great!
Wow congrats on buy a lands! It is so nice for you and good luck!
Really cool design, but you should make sure the mattress is able to ventilate from the bottom. If a mattress is put on a closed of surface like you did here there's a high risk of mold forming inside the mattress.
I already thought about making a bed of scaffolding. But my idea just mount them normally. your idea is so much better.
Did this. You said to use 1/2" plywood, however the MetalTech scaffold walk uses 5/8" plywood for a perfect fit.
Now that's industrial.
Ok this is a great idea. So clean looking 👍👍👍
Pretty Cool! Only issue is that the bottom of the mattress isnt breathing. That's a quick way to get mold. Just a heads up!
Just brilliant man!
My god that alarm caught me off guard. Need a warning next time lol
rip speakers
Lol right?!
I was at work during lunch with my earbuds in, and I thought the fire alarm was going off. My coworkers didn’t even flinch 😂
@@MichaelMendozaMagic WHAT!? DID YOU SAY SOMETHING!?
Absolutely brilliant!
Nice build Ben, Great idea and use of the scaffolding.
What a creative idea!🤙🏻
Super clever! Love it
Love this idea, even if I had money for something fancy I’d like something like this better 😁
When you have elevated work to do, but don't want to get out of bed....... another great idea y'all👍🏾
Great repurpose of already existing material. Very clever!
This is perfect for cleaning and organizing
Awesome video! I’ve been on the road a lot lately, and have been blasting through the podcast. You guys are killing it!
This is awesome! Well done!
You should drill some large diameter holes in the plywood so the mattress can vent. It’ll make a difference on those warm J tree summer nights.
Well done! Very well.
i like anything that is modular and industrial.. so great make.. :)
Love the bed idea that's cool
Nice! I am impressed
I live for your videos. I have made so many things inspired by you guys!
love love love this idea! definitely want to try this out
I work with scaffolding a bit, how much wobble did you guys get at night?
the silicon caulk helped that along with the taping the joints. there is a little movement but its quiet
You could also add the other x-brace in the front and just enter the "loft" area underneath through the sides, too. But this is a really awesome idea, especially if you're in a temporary living space. Awesome stuff!
Good integration of sponsor in the video almost felt like part of it
Great video, man!
I’m looking forward to your house project!
What’s the max weight for something like this. Great space saver for small bedrooms
Love this project man. Inspirational ideas...
I don't think he knows what Netflix and chill means.
same...
Sure He does. He's a Californian.
Really cool!
Wow!. Haven't seen anything new in a while from you guys. 👍
Frickin Amazeballz!!!!

Some really neat ideas! Great build!
Super cool 😎
Great idea and great job.
That’s a brilliant idea.... Would you say the dimensions are sound and large enough to support a queen size bed?
The video which you need to see when you buy new house and there is no money for furniture ... Been there done that ✔️
I LOVE THIS
Genius! Subscribed!
That’s so cool!!!!
Justo lo que buscaba 😘
@HomeMadeModern How much did this cost in total?
Great idea & build!
it looks great ❤️ totally going to make one for my room
Thanks for the tutorial
May I ask how tall the room is?
Looks cool!
This is cool. I would do this but I have no building skills. I would probably make the bed collapse when I got on it lol.
mais um grande projeto desse canal...abraços do Brasil
Brilliant!
Nice project Ben! & Jessie! Thanks for sharing the video with us.😎👍JP
Hope to see you in the desert. I'm building out there as well.
supper cool idea👍👍👍👍👍
You have cool sponsors
Looks so cool
Amazing...good job...
I need more information, i am legit planing on doing this.
Man, I wish I was handy enough to build something like this...
Hi, I don't have tool for drilling except for wood. Do you think a multiple scaffolding deck would do? Thanks
You should open up an Etsy store it’d be awesome!
I see you getting your sponsoring on. 😉
SimpleSafe got game 🤣
Dang you're a clever dude.
does it shake a lot when climbing to the top, or is it stable?
also, does it shake when tossing and turning while sleeping?
Simpli Safe needs some scorpion and spider detectors if you're in the desert Ben.
