  • Just a quick video to show how to use a die to remove tight dowel pins in blind holes. This might not work for all cases but it a quick way to get them out without damaging the block! This wont work with hardened dowel pins, I can say that much!

The ratcheting die stock is killer

Great method. Worked well for me to remove bell housing dowels.
I had to use a modify method because the 1/2" dowel started spinning in the hole before the die reached the block. So I placed a screw driver under the die and gently pried up while spinning the die with my impact gun. Came out like butter!!

Great trick but why wouldn't you soak the dowel pin in penetrating oil prior to trying to remove it?

If it's seized likely there is no gap for penetrating oil to get into.

You could do that, it wouldn't hurt at all! These weren't in there too bad, but if they were more stuck, I probably would have needed the help.

Goodson makes an awesome dowel puller with different sized collects that'll remove that in seconds. I've been using mine in our machine shop for over 20years
