I look forward to getting a Clio 182 again. I was watching one of your vids last week and imagined myself going to the Clio mechanic and saying I want what he has....minus the seats. Thanks for the pragmatic approach to this wonderful car.
They really are great fun little cars, glad the videos inspired your potential build (dread to think what it would cost to pay a garage in labour for a similar build 🙈)
Just bought a track ready 172 cup, and have been binge-watching all your content. Absolutely loving the quality of your videos mate. What brand is that wrinkle paint you used on the manifold? I'm doing my first novice day at brands hatch in march. Cannot wait!
It comes in time mate, although many people think I’m a youngster as I appear to look younger than I am (according to others) I am 32 and it’s only been over years of trial and error that have gotten me to this stage.. oh and remaining child free has helped with the free time 😂
@@stoneautomotive Lol 32, Im an old man but a boy racer at heart and live for my Clio absolutely love it, best car Ive owned, Im a very keen amateur mechanic and love fiddling with my Black Gold 182 when I can, unfortunately cancer has put a hold on things for the foreseeable future but I wont sell her, things will just have to wait. I only wish I had half the knowledge you have lol respect to you sir, beautiful car, and please let me know if you ever decide to sell the intake.
Nothing wrong with that, hope to enjoy the Clio 172 Cup myself for many more years 👌 (although it’s in the dog house now as it sounds like a drive shafts literally about to give up 🤦♂️) Sorry to hear of your cancer, know to many people who have suffered with it ☹️ Thanks, she’s come a long way! No plans to sell the intake as it means so much to me.. they do come up for sale used now and then 👍
Thanks 👍 certainly has had some hours put into it! Think it was just off eBay from memory, original had gone brown & was looking really tired so was a must do modification 👍
How hard really are the cambelts on these engines. Lock downs got me bored and need to sort out my rocker cover leak. Unfortunately mines a 182 so have all the ac to deal with but surely with the right locking tools it can be as bad as people say lol
Easy enough to change the Cambelt on the F4R, the difficulty is getting it timed correctly as so many fail with “locking” everything up once finished as it’s fully floating. Always use genuine locking tools and if your doing the rocker cover you will need a seal kit for the camshafts/ dephaser along with an automotive silicone to re-seal the cover. It can get expensive if you get it wrong, when I was working on these full time it was scary how many I came across from “specialist” with incorrect timing set - costing people performance.
Lovely car! Will you get a cage eventually? Mines not got rear seats and I really think I need a half cage but again mines going to be used the same as yours fast road/few track days.
No plans to cage it anytime soon, can never say never but finding I’m using the car for more Sunday morning blasts than track use! Remap and limited slip diff are the next big must do for upgrades
Stone Automotive that’s fair enough! I think I might take heed of what you’re doing and follow the same route. I’ve only just found your page this morning but enjoying the Clio vids.
It really has transformed the car for the better in its current spec, not so great for a daily now but always puts a smile on my face 👌 Hopefully the videos will help along the way, certainly enjoyed making them (there’s a video of the Clio at the beginning of the channel where I review it in the purchase spec) different car to the then!
Stone Automotive cool I’ll be sure to check that out as well. Interesting to see the difference in the graphs before and after cat removal. How’s the plastidip sunstrip holding up? Think that’s a really good idea if it’s lasted!
Yep still going strong even with the cold condensation 👍 worked better than I hoped which is always a bonus (more pics on Instagram - stone_automotive) The decat made a huge difference to the midrange which is confirmed on the rolling road, my catalyst wasn’t in a good state though
It sounds odd but they are all so different - the Clio is so light/ nimble and the cornering grip is really something, with the PMS shifter it feels a joy to drive a manual - e46 feels as fun with the RWD adding the excitement combined with the carbon airbox and aggressive SMG set in S6 but also allows for a nicer driver when not on the boil (radio/ac etc) but you do feel the size/ weight over the Clio (I actually drove the M3 Sunday back-back with the Clio) - e92 M3 is the most refined of the bunch, not to say I don’t enjoy it but it doesn’t give me the same raw buzz as the Clio or e46 but I still have a lot of love for the e92, the V8 really is an awesome engine and I can’t help but always drop the windows to listen to the rumble but I feels it’s more of a fast cruiser then a true Sunday blaster.. obviously only my opinion.... and yes the Clio does double the MPG over the e92, flicked the fuel gauge a few times to make sure it was working 😂
Hi, the company that produced mine no longer exists but there has been a different company that has started to produce them (can’t remember the name) but full details can be asked/found on www.cliosport.net/forum 👍
Hi, yes it passed the emissions test with no issues but this is only group N on the intake camshaft, couldn’t comment if you were to run full Group N with the exhaust side done to. Car still has the factory 172 catalyst fitted.
@@stoneautomotive cheers fella. Is there much to be gained from running group N on just the intake? Also, any news on the company who were supposed to be re releasing the RS2?
Still running the stock power steering setup, I was looking at the Clio DCI rack as combined with the stock Cliosport column would delete the assist and free up some engine power/ response
Sadly not, we had it built by an old customer for us years ago! I have heard there is some one selling them on Cliosport.net/forum so maybe worth a try
I am a little confused about the RS2 intake. I stashed an old ph1 172 away about 7 years ago and plan to bring it back in 2020 with some induction mods. I looked online and everything seemed to confirm that they had been discontinued. However there is now a Facebook page called "RS2 Intake.co.uk" offering them (website doesn't work) and using pictures of intakes branded JMS. m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2670303649687175&id=1345534395497447 Are these genuine products affiliated with the original item? Seems a bit fishy at first glance.
The production rights were sold off and the new owner did plan to start producing them.. problem become apparent that a £1,500 upgrade (fitting, mapping & uprated engine mounts) was not far from what you could purchase the car for so sadly it never went back into production at £100 per BHP new. The rights were sold on again but I have no idea to who - wish them the best of luck with it (be good to see my initials floating around on that base manifold again 👍)

The wrinkle paint was from eBay (can’t recall the make) simply search VHT wrinkle paint

Whats more fun to drive on the road , clio v e46 v e92?
Just the question I wanted to ask. I bet the clio is more 'fun', and a hell of a lot cheaper to run too.
Dunlop tyres everyone on track uses these will shave time off your track times
I need to get it on track to really justify buying any more tyres first 😂

How you get rid of the airbag light for the mot with your aftermarket wheel
Purchase an RS tuner with the airbag adaption module -fastchip.nl and code them out or the cheaper method is using 3.3 ohm resistors in the circuit
Do you remove the hydraulic sterling system?
