UPDATE: The DungeonDraft importer module is now called the Universal Battle Map Importer because it now supports DGNFOG and any other map software that supports DungeonDraft's Universal Map Format. This should greatly simplify things for folks!
Thank you! Trying to follow along with your vid and I got lost. BTW, *Thank you* for making comprehensive and easy-to-follow tutorials that have improved my Foundry and Dungeondraft experiences immensely.
Thank you for your videos, and updates. It was your advice that helped me decide to purchase Foundry VTT, and Dungeondraft. Both of which I absolutely love. I am taking every opportunity to make new things and try to impress my players. I want my game to be the one they talk about to their other friends, and it has been a success so far. With the ability to add visual context and interaction to the story's I'm trying to tell just makes the experience all that more fun and enjoyable for everyone involved. Thank you, and I appreciate you.
I'm so happy to hear that! And that you didn't wind up hating my recommendations :D. It's crazy what getting access to a bunch of great tools can do for your story telling. I've found that the digital nature of VTTs has been a boon for immersion in the maps and feeling like things were really happening Even pure theater of the mind moments have been improved with mood imagery and music piped directly into players' ears instead of off of my laptop or through distant TV speakers. Thank you so much for the kind words. Hearing about people's games and thinking that I've had anything to do with helping them happen is my absolute favorite thing in the world.
Yesterday I was cussing up a storm on trying to upload a DungeonDraft map and having to hand update all the walls and caverns. Today I engaged the Googlefu and my brain, and found this video. Thank you for restoring my faith in purchasing both of these products. Great video.
I'm a huge fan of DungeonDraft. The stability keeps getting better and with artists like Forgotten Adventures making all of their assets available in DD asset packs it's pretty much blowing my mind :D.
A note for everyone here: If you use the module that enables you to save a default scene, you'll want to disable that for this work. Found out that hard way today :P Also, thanks so much for this EL!
Hello! I followed your instructions and I think I've installed it correctly. There is no extra button on my Scenes tab ... just the default Create Scene and Create Folder buttons. Can you help?
Update 25 August 2021, when you load foundry and go to the add-on modules and click on install module and type dungeon draft, it is not listed anywhere.
Naming the NPC's ... my co-workers may not like this, but I named all the zombies in Frozen Sick/Saulsvault after them ... My boss makes a good octopus
Tried the vtt forums: any help - when I choose file in VTT it doesnt "see" the files i exported to a folder with dungeondraft...ideas on what could be causing this? folder appears empty, like no files of the correct format are in there.
What is the current easiest way to import an Under effect for maps in Dungeondraft? I have a second floor of a tower that I want to export, however, the only option is Overlay which would create the walls and floors for the Underlay, rather than the source level which the players will be on. The idea would be to create a 'downwards view' to a lower level, but have the map represent the higher level.
I'm having a hard time importing json files to foundry-ready maps I've downloaded. Everytime I do the import it the scene "crashes", and after I reload the application it goes back to where it started, with just the map. Has anybody experienced this? I'm using 8.7.
This does not work anymore. I have disabled all other modules, still doesn't work. It is giving me the error: "Error Importing: SyntaxError: Unexpected token ? in JSON at position 0".
Just a heads up! The DungeonDraft import module at the time of this comment does NOT work on the Stable (0.6.6) build of Foundry. I was having issues with importing until I switched to the 0.7.2 (alpha) build.
How is it that you brought up the edit options when selecting the door? I'm new to foundry and this step by step helped me import the map, but i still don't know how you selected the doors to edit them.
Using dungeon fog, I was doing a walkthrough and it seems like grids in the map don't exaclty match producing a situation where some hallways are impassable (the character icon seems to get ""stuck" on the corner). Any thoughts?
Please update your video title to the installment of 'universal battlemap importer' because having too look for it in the comments is not the optimal solution. Editing a title is quick and easy. Or simply re-edit the video and overlay the informations. Or make an updated version of the video. Stay crunchy.
@@Blayda1 I figured it out a while ago, turns out if you make a map in Dungeondraft more than 50x50, it won't export it as the correct file type unless you set the file PPI to be less than 100
There's no built in way currently. You could do a screen recording but the resolution wouldn't be that great depending on the size of the map. I'm hopeful that we'll get it as a feature eventually but I don't think it's super high on Mega's to do list unfortunately :(.
Hi there, awesome video. I know, I'm a bit late to the party, but I have a little question. How does the import work on a mac? I can't find the "browse user data" option, when i right click Foundry.
Wait, after some research, I found it. Just had to search the file in the finder seperatly. Sorry for the inconvienience. Again great viedeo and great channel :D
Hey, could you add the description for the Dungeon Fog module, I can't seem to find it in the description (apologies if I'm being an idiot have just missed it), thanks in advance
Yes, my bad! It's added now :). I trusted myself to remember to add it before it finished processing but then I started eating dinner and completely forgot haha. Sorry about that!
Unfortunately, no :(. At least it will work for these software! It's actually easier with DungeonFog now as they support DungeonDraft's universal VTT format and it works with the DungeonDraft importer which has now been renamed the 'Universal Battle Map Importer' which is great :D.
You'll need the Universal Battle Map Importer module to import from DungeonDraft. The module was recently renamed as more software supports it than just DungeonDraft now!
In Dungeondraft, should I export the PNG in addition to the Universal VTT file? I suppose if you've been using Dungeondraft for a while now, that's a no brainer.
If you're importing it into Foundry all you need is the universal VTT file. It contains an encoded version of the image that the module then converts to an image and sets as the scene background :). It never hurts to have a back up image copy though!
You can import WonderDraft maps that have been exported as images just like normal images into Foundry without need for a special file. Since WonderDraft does world/regional maps there shouldn't be a need for any walling or anything like that :).
This video really gave me pause about buying Foundry, it seems way too complicated, in fantasy grounds you just simply drag and drop a file into your image file in the FG folder, slap a grid on it, done. It's that simple.
In Foundry you're equally capable of importing a map and adjusting the grid and running from there. Walls and lights aren't mandatory but they do (in my opinion at least) add to the experience to have line of sight blockers, doors, etc. This video also shows importing a file that automatically does that for you so I don't think you have anything to worry about in terms of complexity :).
Man this shit is way too hard and doesn't work properly. Very much regretting my purchase of Foundry.... it's a scuffed program that relies on 3rd party users to make things work properly. It should just work.

Does it support inkarnate?

Thanks, i was about to cry because i wasn't finding the module
Thank you! Just got around to using some maps from Morvold and this is what I was needing!
you're a living legend
Indeed

Another great video! Um, am I the only one that has never seen someone drop a file on the file picker button to load it? That blew my mind 💥
That's the real life hack :D.

One tip to add is that when placing windows in Dungeondraft, if you set them to "allow light", foundry will import them as windows instead of doors.
I rarely comment on UA-cam videos but you deserve one. You’re doing excellent work. Thank you. Keep it up!
Thank you so much :D! I really appreciate it. I'll do my best!
Nice. Dungeondraft just keeps looking better and better. Glad I saw this before I started investing too heavily into dungeonfog.

Very useful and easy to use. And now it seems Foundry differentiates between doors and windows.
getting a walkthrough of how to do this when using the Forge to host your foundry tabletop would be very helpful
Extremely helpful. Thank you my guy!
If your're having an issue with the wall alignment on Import, make sure you're not cropping when exporting from Dungeondraft.
A note for everyone here: If you use the module that enables you to save a default scene, you'll want to disable that for this work. Found out that hard way today :P

Thank you for raising that as an issue! Hopefully it will save someone else a bit of headache :D.
It's a pleasure, and thank you. You got me to buy DD and FVTT ;)..
@@satsunoryu You're welcome, and also apologies for getting you to spend your money ;D!

I just used it today. It worked for me. Did I miss an update that I should make sure to not do? :)
I managed to import the map, but walls/doors did not carry over. This video assumes that Dungeondraft would make this automatic?
how it works by roll20 ? Do you had made there a video too ?
Does anyone know what the new padding option does?
How is it that you brought up the edit options when selecting the door? I'm new to foundry and this step by step helped me import the map, but i still don't know how you selected the doors to edit them.
In Foundry when you're on the Wall tool you can click on the end points of a wall segment to access their settings. That should get you what you need!

Thanks for you comment! finally i´ve found the modul in FVTT XD
Thank you for bringing this up. I've updated the description and added a pinned comment noting this!
Does this also work with forge? Or only local hosted foundryvtt?
This doesn't work, every time I try to import a map it just says "ERROR: SyntaxError: Unexpected end of JSON Input".
Same here.
VERY frustrating

Just tried to do this with a dungeon fog map and it did not work. Does map size or detail pose problems (it is a large map).

Can I import Dungeondraft maps with Forge-vtt?
Yes, anything you can do in Foundry you should be able to do in Forge as well since it just hosts the Foundry application :).
Great video, unfortunately I found it just after both creating a modern prison and rebuilding the walls and way to many doors in foundry

I highly suggest you give foundry a try...as a long time FG user, setting up the gird is always a nightmare...so easy in foundry!

Next time you make a video focus on making it as short as possible and get the information out there. I hate videos like this.
