Agreed! I recently did this and created a seperate map just for the tunnel and then using MLT teleported to and from that map... this would have been way better.
You just boosted my GMing by a 10 fold! Thank you so much for 4:48... I CAN USE STAIRS NOW!!! I want to add I'm using terrain wall for cavern walls to and put two of them around the whole room. It allows to show the walls and prevent peaking corners you wouldn't otherwise be able to see around.
I've been delving into Foundry for about a week now, getting bewildered by how complex it is (and often not very user-friendly). Tutorials on youtube are often not helpful at all, way too complicated, poorly narrated, too long-just a mess. But this one is by far the best I've seen yet. Simple, clear, focused, just all around great tips. Thank you, you've earned my sub for sure!
Gave it a rewatch. I am pretty sure the first watch over a year ago made me utilize practically all of them. The value of this video is insane for any starting Foundry user.
Thank you for sharing your tips, I hope you keep doing content on foundry vtt. Your voice is clear and sharp and the information and examples are extremely helpful. I also loved the sharable compendium video you've made. Keep at it !
Wow, this is great! I learned all these tips by trial and error over the course of the last 2 years. I wish I had known about your channel sooner! would have saved me a lot of time and effort.
So good good tips here! I didn't know about alt clicking to select a connected set of walls. Terrain walls for incremental reveal is brilliant also. Secret doors for crossovers blew my mind. Only thing I can suggest is that you put a list of timestamps in the description so that when I return here to try out these tips and need a refresher, I can find it easier :)
When chaining walls, I’ve found I often end up with two nodes very close to where I click. Instead of “left clicking”, I’ll left click, move my mouse, release the click, move my mouse, click, move, release, move, click, move... I’ve found this to work much better. The alt click I didn’t know. That one I’m gonna have to try soon!
Wow, quite cool video thanks a lot. Super clean, good examples, straight to the point. I love foundry, so many cool things you need to watch so many videos about to get half of it!
2:25 room to breathe You could also use terrain walls for the same effect without letting players see through corners, but that requires another ser of walls inside the walls so the whole rock shape isnt visable
Excellent set of tips. Is there someway to see what the sub-grid is? Is there someway to move one of the "end-points" and have both the segments move? I'm finding I have to move one segment, and then reconnect the other segment
You can't *see* the subgrid in core, but you can learn more about how it's segmented here: foundryvtt.com/article/walls/ Moving an entire segment is something that might be doable with a module; you could search for "walls" in the module browser, or ask in #module-discussion on the discord.
@@unsolublefoundry I've installed Monk's Wall module, and it does indeed handle moving a single node and the two wall segments are both moved. Plus it has lot of other useful wall tools
really cool stuff. if you make more videos like this, can you please clean your mic audio? you can do this by exporting it into a program like audacity, selecting an area of "Dead Air", using there noise reduction tool and then using it again on the entire audio to remove this bad audio. its works pretty well in my opinion and I have been using it for years
So how do you do to align walls and grid in a more square map. I'm having issues with a maze where one corner is "perfectly" align (by myself) with the grid but the further I go the walls of the maze just go all over the place and I'm just loosing it
Very much a noob question, this, but how do you get that draggable select tool you are using to select whole sections of wall, please? I’ve been trying to use some of these tips but can’t figure that simple part out!
Those are actually terrain walls in that example - the ones that are crossing between the cave walls in that corridor. They're providing segmented reveals of the map, as you cross each one's threshold (because you can see through a single terrain wall segment, but you can't see through two).
@@unsolublefoundry Sorry, my mistake then. I just tried it with terrain walls and I couldn't get it to work but using normal walls did! Awesome video by the way, thanks again.
Almost all the maps in my videos are from the free content packs you can find in the Add-on Modules browser - this one is from the Tom Cartos Ostenwold pack.
This right here is why I always feel like just buying a roll20 module. The amount of work this seems to take, I'd rather just spend some money and buy it done.
Three years later--still a gold mine of information.
2:03 Crossovers. Damn that's smart. Great tip. Wouldn't have realised that.
Agreed! I recently did this and created a seperate map just for the tunnel and then using MLT teleported to and from that map... this would have been way better.
I was today old when I found out YOU CAN SET WALLS TO BE ONE DIRECTION AND LET LIGHT PASS ONLY ONE WAY?!?! Well, that tip earned you a sub!
Brilliant tips - really some of the best, most concise and to the point Foundry videos I've watched recently 👏🏻
Thanks for the kind words! Glad these have been helpful. :)

trying to learn foundry was harder than my 1st year of vet training. I think that says enough...
Gave it a rewatch.
I am pretty sure the first watch over a year ago made me utilize practically all of them. The value of this video is insane for any starting Foundry user.
Honestly the last tip alone is worth almost all of the others combined.
I've been using Foundry since V8 at least and never knew half of those. Jesus. you're brilliant.
Wow, I've been using Foundry for almost a year now and I didn't know about many of these tricks. Great video!
Thank you for sharing your tips, I hope you keep doing content on foundry vtt. Your voice is clear and sharp and the information and examples are extremely helpful. I also loved the sharable compendium video you've made. Keep at it !
Hey thanks for the kind words! Glad you're finding these helpful. :)
you have just saved me stupid amounts of time, thank you wall lord
Oh man, that secret door trick is pure genius.
Wow, this is great! I learned all these tips by trial and error over the course of the last 2 years. I wish I had known about your channel sooner! would have saved me a lot of time and effort.
I have ADHD and stuff like drawing walls gives me a literal stomach ache...
These tips are SOOOO Helpfull, thanks !
Dude, this short video has save me so much time! Thanks.
I have been DMing on foundry for most of the year and didn't knew many of those tips. Thank you.
Fantastic video. I'm thankful for the youtube algorithm today
That was super useful! I'm so glad that came up on my suggested videos.
Good tips! Channels like this are the lifeblood of foundry imo
This was such a great, clean tutorial. Thank you! I definitely picked up some new tips.
I had no idea about many of these features. Thanks.

Great note! I have added chapter markers to this one, and will be sure to do this going forward. :)

Thanks for comments about the secret doors for multiple layer.
this is an incredibly good & consise video, super useful as newbie. ty for making this
Really well-packed, well-explained stuff in this video. I loved it.
best Foundry tutorials that I seen so far, concise and precise! Thanks mate!
This is a truly excellent video, I've been using Foundry for years and learned several tips!
Wow. So many good tips. The last one will make changing things to doors and windows so much easier. Thanks!
Thank you so much for making this vid. It was very easy to understand and concise. I just subscribed to your channel and I hit that notification bell.
Thank you very much for this video. I just started foundry recently and this helped so much :)
Great video mate 🔥🔥 it helped me a lot, this is my first time running a game in this program and I really needed help with my wall placement
This video is great! Thanks for taking the time to make it so concise :D
Love your foundry videos so far. short and informative. Thank you and keep it going :)
Wow these are some amazing tips. I literally didn't even know you could make walls do anything like what you did here in the back half of the video
There's even more stuff you can do beyond this, in v10 - hit us up on the Discord for more tips. :)
Wow, quite cool video thanks a lot. Super clean, good examples, straight to the point.

That's a superb video. So much useful info in such a short amount of time. Many thanks
Hey thanks! Glad to hear it's helpful. :)
I really needed this. Thank you!
Thank you, this is great information for the clone wall, and some other amazing tricks!
That was brilliant and so concise. Thanks.
Information density! Subbed.
Brilliantly useful, thanks so much!

Really nice tips :)

10/10 tips

Very much a noob question, this, but how do you get that draggable select tool you are using to select whole sections of wall, please? I’ve been trying to use some of these tips but can’t figure that simple part out!
It's the top sub-tool when you're on the walling tools layer.
At 4:52 he talks about terrain walls but he means normal walls.

Wait ! what ?! Your token is animated ! how ?!
Token assets can be video files (webm ideally). :)
