  • My wife and I, with our two kids, sold everything and moved from the UK to South Africa in 2019!
In this video, which is the first of a new series, I go through how and why we made a move to South Africa at a time when a lot of young families are leaving. This is an exciting new direction for us as a family and we hope you join us on this new adventure while we make a start at a new life.

I live in Pretoria, but im from the deep rural areas of Limpopo, not a township but a rural area with natural mountains, rivers, bush and so on, i never values it when i grew up, being a registered nurse, there is a point where i thought of moving to the UK, but looking at these videos about moving to the UK it made me apreciate SA more and i would love to go back to my village and live there some day, its extremely peacefull, green and natural, i guess when u grow older small things actually matters. Wellcome back dude, hopefully all your plans go well.

Katelyn, I'd suggest perhaps you acquire very strong skills in areas of technology, or specialist professions etc. If you have trust fund, by all means you will be safe. South Africa has a shortage of skilled folks and entrepreneurs. If you have some business ideas, by all means you will be successful here. However, without any skills and just high-school diploma it is very difficult because there are many folks with that. Other than these cautions, you are welcome to come home my sister. You will have a different perspective coming from UK.

All foreigners think the same way. But remember that rape and gang rapes is very common in South Africa. Murder is very common with 24000 evey year. Myself and all the people I know all carry firearms everyday. Don't be disillusioned by people saying it is safe.

Our country need all of us black and white to make it prosperous.
We that have education and succeeded cannot bleed our nation and chicken out strangely and largely towards those predators that flood our world with terrorists to keep on manipulating us with fear. Thankfully they are on their last legs and panicking as their history is catching up with them.

You must be blind not to see this unfolding in US.
US always undermined the rest of the world with instability through terrorism, especially the BRICS countries that persued the common objective of crashing the petrodollar scam and the dollar's world reserve currency status. US is not the secure US of 25 years ago. NATO is also not the united force they used to be. Russia and China is not as weak and poor as they used to be 25 years ago. It is so refreshing to see an honest, down to earth video of a person who has left Europe to come to South Africa! It puts things into perspective and gives one something to think about about as we struggle with the thought of staying or leaving it all. Its a huge battle between the head and the heart! For those asking why UK is depressing. With my experience, I lived in UK for over 20 years and it rains all the time especially changing weathers all at once like sun for 1 min then cloudy then rain. Sometimes it hard to tell what's weather is going to be for a day e.g whether to bring umbrella and coat with you all the time with 'just in case'. Also, here have 6 months of winter and less sunshine! We only get sun in the summer for 2 weeks and that's over till the fall and winter. It's so miserable! Imagine living with that for 20 years... jobs here is very difficult because all eu and immigrants took over jobs that leaving british people losing jobs and become homeless that's disrespectful to UK citizens - I've seen that everywhere. No help whatsoever. For those moving to uk thinking we get free NHS, benefits and accommodation but it's not what you expect. UK does have bad and good side especially safety because in London is the most dangerous city with crimes! UK is not perfect and I hate it here.

When you build on your farm, please allocate a good budget towards security like electric fences, beams, security gates, burglar guards on windows, big dogs and possibly a secure safe room for the family. Its will help deter criminals and may save your lives. Please make sure all adults in the family including the ladies obtain phew phew licences and are proficient in the use of them. Learn to always carry concealed 24/7 and by incorporating these important principals into your every day life you will be ok and hopefully live happily ever after. Best of luck with your new adventure.

Greetings fellow south african.I returned last year after living 17 years in the UK which to me was just an existence that sucked the life force out of me.Africa has beauty but income generating is difficult but you seem to have a good plan which is important. Connect with nature and choose a simple life and you will see the rewards and most of all don't feed off the negativity of politics, just stay focused on the positives. Stay on the journey with like minded people and be brave and live life freely as possible because we know how restricting the UK can be.👍

English guy... lived and worked in SA 1980 to 1984. 2 years Durban and then 2 years Johannesburg Really loved it, but the apartheid and separation started to affect me towards the end of my stay. Didnt return for many years and then had a trip staying in Sandton and Ballito and Durban. And then last year, having now retired I took a road trip , all up and down the west coat , both coastal and inland. Plus a few weeks in Namibia which Ive always loved for the solitutde. In SA Staying in aribnbs in small dorps , out of the way of any city , except for a week in Camps Bay. Loved it. Now am planning a beach road trip staying again on west coast Langebaan , Churchaven , then down to some garden route beach places , Port Alfred, Jeffreys bay, all those places. If that goes well I might apply for the retirement visa... or just take 90 days a years to visit SA. Its in my blood somewhere now as its so diverse, so stunning in scenery, with such kind wonderful hosts ...the best Ive encountered in 12 yers of airbnb in 15 different countries.
So well done to you sir adn your family for having the cojones to uproot from UK and head back to SA.

SA is a fantastic place for roadtrip style travel. Our family farm is about 3 hours from Jeffrey’s Bay, it’s a wonderful part of the world to visit. I was only born in 1984 so I didn’t really understand apartheid. If crime wasn’t such a huge issue I would love to stay in SA I definitely.
I wish you well on all of your trips to enjoy South Africa.

One thing you need to understand is have some bloody research on other countries. There are worse countries than in SA. You may think SA is the only country but it isn't. I lived in uk for over 20 years and it's so damn dull and miserable. I'm considering to move back home just like others and it has nothing to do with you! You have no idea but I suggest you fly and explore it yourself. Also, getting out (running away from home) isn't the option. You may think usa, uk etc are safe and give you everything but no it has good and bad side. Good luck if you wanted out. Make sure that's the right decision because when you do, you might realise why some of us want to go home.

I am not living in fear at all. Corruption is the order of the day and reverse racism is rampant. I wish to provide my future children a chance in a first world country, hence I am looking to move to Canada.
