Apartheid was bad, but all people had access to proper education and clean and functional hospitals. My father build many schools which were burned down and my mother was a nurse for many years. I have fond memories of going to the hospital and playing with the little black children. I remember how clean it was and the relationship among the whites and blacks in general was peaceful. If my parents went out we were left in the care of a black male gentleman, 3 little girls and one boy. He was someone we loved and trust, never had any fear of harm being done to us. Apartheid we experience today is worse than ever, it kills people, all races in South Africa are suffering.

I'm saying this from my experience as a Nigerian and I think Africa in general need to look within ourselves and ask why we all have subjected ourselves to a state where we leave in gated, high walls, barbed wires, guard dogs communities for security.

To understand why houses in towns are behind huge walls while houses in townships are not, you have to understand that most of the wealth, be it white or black is in the towns. So it is a prime target for property crimes. Townships, does not see much property crimes, but in general are very dangerous places, especially if you stand out. As a white person you definitely do stand out. Some of the more dangerous townships in Gauteng include Tembisa, Alexandra, and Diepsloot. When it comes to the mines, there is the Oppenheimer family, and Anglo American. Between these two most of the largest mines are owned. Basically, anything you do, anything you buy, the Oppenheimer's will get their cut of the cake. They just have shares in everything.

White people are less than 9%, Black people are about 80%, so take that into consideration when talking about the rich and poor, and the townships and cities/suburbs. So of course it looks bad because 80% is so much more then the rest of the population.

We all follow the same Curriculum, all school have the same resources that government provides for learners to use. Start there to make a change. At the end of the day, we all start by having the same opportunities in education, how you end up living is your choice. I'm definitely not rich, like everyone thinks because of the colour of my skin, but I'm an entrepreneur while trying to get a degree to live a better life. And because of the colour of my skin and being a Sole Proprietor how will I ever get any grants due to BEE to someone who is the opposite of me?? With the lockdown it truly showed how "unqualified" I am to even stand in a queue for food that the Government ended up stealing, and because of who I am I'm not allowed to get R350 a month either, nor could I claim UIF because I'm self employed. How equal is that just because I am a White female who is truly try to make an honest means of a living to provide for my family? Nothing gets given to me, ever. So how can Black people still complain about being poor, living in rural areas and not being educated properly when it's a lot easier for them to get from government? Also, it's been 26 years already, how many generations already, so Apartheid cannot be blamed still for what is happening today if people still choose to live in the past by not moving forward.
