The 'Whitby Jet' Midland Blue Pullman rail tour organised by 'Midland Pullman' and operated by Locomotive Services Ltd.
One of the withdrawn Intercity 125 high speed train (HST) sets has been refurbished and repainted into the livery if the "Midland Pullman" that ran in the 1960s and 1970s between Manchester and London St. Pancras and was one of the first modern type diesel electric multiple units in Britain.
The train is a recreation of the Pullman service and tours the UK on rail tours.
Excellent!
This must've caused quite a stir amongst NYMR punters at Grosmont.
Lovely to see the new Blue Pullman doing the Whitby run!! It’s a very pretty unit!!
The 1960's has been reborn, what an incredible sight of the Midland Pullman HST especially along the Esk Valley Line. Think the last time there was a HST was The Pickering Paxman in 2017?
Well captured and shots along the Esk Valley Line :-)
Reminds me so much of the British Railways Metro Cammell blue Pullman of the 1960's which I always saw in the Midlands as a kid. I bet the food in the dining cars was fantastic back then.
I regularly used the South Wales Pullman between Newport and Paddington in the early 60s, but only ever ate Afternoon Tea which I would describe as bountiful!
What lovely evening light at5:55.
I am imagining your accomplice astride his motor cycle, engine running and you running up,leaping into the side car saying "On to the next location Grommit !"
It was impressive!
Battersby's such a bizarre place 😂
What an astonishing sight on the Esk Valley line. Oh to have been there! 😲
Please explain the purpose of its visit. Love to know more details.

@@nymrfootage Well I never. How times have changed. The once common HST now repurposed as a luxury dinning experience. I was surprised that the Esk Valley line was able to take the weight of the set. Thank you for capturing the visit. I will keep a look out for when it returns.
@@andrewdolinskiatcarpathian This coming Friday, the Midland Blue Pullman HST will be coming back to Whitby again - this time from Finsbury Park (North London)
@@BIGBIRD7172 Thank you 👍😀
Totally brilliant, thank you! Having done the trip on stock BR stuff the luxury of the Worlds finest train doing that route must have been like going to heaven - jealous!!!
Does it ever go on the NYMR?
The blue pullman has never been onto the NYMR but a HST did travel to Pickering in the NYMR back in 2016
Have you seen the amazing film of the original Blue Pullman prior to its first commercial run. It was on Talking Pictures tv early November?
It's interesting how the track at Battersby (station limits anyway) is still in quite bad condition condition compared to the rest of the line. Any ideas why this may be?
Interesting question. Most of the track has been renewed over the last 10 years on the EVL, a lot of it to welded rail.
Not sure why the station has never been replaced. Some of the chairs have dates in the 50s and 60s on them. I guess if it needed doing, it would be.
Platform 2 is rarely used. Engineering trains mostly and probably only a few times a year, if that, so I can see why the track has never been renewed in platform 2. The NYMR haven't run round into platform 2 for several years. The steam trains are top and tailed nowadays due to timing issues in the branch line.
Is that actually the North Yorkshire Moors Railway it’s running on? Or is it the other side of Whitby?
The Blue Pullman is running over the same track that the NYMR run on when they run steam from Grosmont to Whitby.
When you get to Grosmont the track splits. You can continue on the network rail main line to Battersby and onwards to Middlesbrough or come off the Esk Valley and into the NYMR and continue to Goatlhand and Pickering.
Who swore at the end? The bas......d? Lol
Some people walked past. Don't think they were that interested in trains 🤣 and made some disparaging comments.
Fine looking train, but oddly out of place on the Esk... 🙂
Nice footage. Shame about the ‘hi-vis dork’ on platform in opening shot!
Hi vis on top of high vis. He's not taking any chances!
@@AndreiTupolev he must believe platforms are dangerous places to be when trains are about, you need to make sure the driver sees you so he swerve out the way if he needs to.
