I would recommend to tape all the windows on the other sides before putting up the siding. That way you won't make the mistake of not taping two windows in this video.
I agree, tape everything before siding! Keep up the good work 👏 👍
No doubt! Tape with the 2ft timer.
Why use tape instead of a waterproof sealant? Sealant is a fraction of the cost. Thanks.
Your two are the Best
Thank you Arthur!
Y'all have such a good wholesome vibe. I really have just fallen in love with your family. Thanks for all your hard work bringing us along on your adventures.
Thank you ♥️
We truly appreciate your kindness 🙏🏼
Great video Jim and Lydia
Knee high always puts a smile on my face and today was no different. Enjoyed the trip to enjoy Mother Nature's beauty.
Y'all must have eaten lots of wheaties and red meat. It looked like the siding went up effortlessly.
Doing great, keep up the wonderful work and when knee high gets grown y'all can share all of the home building memories. Take care.
Thank you so much for the thoughtful comment Richard! We hope that you have a great weekend!
Lookin good!
Thanks!
The lady said, "Perfection takes time." and then forgot to tape the window. LOL Gotta love it!! The house really looks great guys!! I am so proud and happy for you!
As long as you don't get any weather on that side of the house, all is good. I had never worked with that material, thanks for showing us the install.
It’s very durable and will last a lifetime. Glad we were able to share it with you😁
Great job installing your fiber cement siding

Mistakes happen, it only matters that you saw it and will not make the same mistake twice. I am sure the inspector won’t have a problem with it, as long as you keep taking her to the river. You have come along way toward making your dream come true. Proud of your accomplishments. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much Gene! We try to keep her happy so that she doesn’t pull out the red marker during her inspections😂 We hope that you have a great weekend!!

Hello Bill Hanshaw from West Virginia just wanted to say you two have done a fantastic job I have watched you two from the start if you two step back and just look at what you two have done accomplished from bare ground to this like I told you before a house built with love you three are amazing in all you do please be safe and God bless you three look forward to your next video with love always Bill,,,,
Thank you so much Bill! We really appreciate your supportive comments!
Here I sit broken hearted waiting for next video which hasn’t started. Looking forward to the next one. Have great week.
Great idea on the concrete foundation shelf. Thank you for showing the label of the Nashua tape and the BORA Saw Guide.
Loved the video. You both done a good job on the siding figuring out the air pressure for the nail gun so it wouldn’t damage or crack the siding as you nailed it up. You taught something about that and saved someone I’m sure the head scratcher on how or why this was not working for them. So you are armatures you say but you are teaching to others on things they maybe not done until now. Love the videos you guys are awesome.
Thanks Randall!
We make the mistakes so others don’t have to! Hopefully give them some laughs along the way too.
We are glad to have you along for the journey 😀
The house is really coming together! Loving the humor and all the amazing work you guys are putting into your home!😊👍🇺🇸❤
Thanks Justin!! 🏠 🐊♥️

One of my favourite vlogs. It is really starting to come along now, it is looking so smart. Have a good week ❤
Thank you Nicky!! 😄♥️
Boy!, if that isn't familiar...missing the tape I mean. My wife and I just finished flipping a house, and we nicknamed ourselves two timers. It took us two times to get most things right. You two are doing much better than we did. Enjoy yourselves and God bless you! Skip McCain
That’s hilarious! We have a 2ft Timer.. which is sort of close! Haha.
Y’all should be so proud of yourselves! If people don’t make mistakes then they are never trying shining new!
Hi there guys that sideding looks awesome yes the taping is important.Love to see the nice weather here in south africa its starting to turn to winter.I love every episode and cant wait for the next one have a awesome weekend guys love fan from south africa bye

You guys make DIY adorable.
Your house is really beginning to look like a house but I knew it would, you guys are doing a really fine job, always enjoy seeing the beautiful baby, a trip to the river is always a nice break, too bad there wasn't any fishing, thanks for bringing us along, have a great week.
Gene, always just uplifting words!! Thank you so much for enjoying this journey along with us ♥️

Work & good weather = sweated down which we both don’t mind!
Great minds Llona 😁😁
You 2 work well together, congratulations
Tape is important especially with any driving wind/rain, but,....... "Tape/Smape" !! You guys are doing a great job." Looks great".
Ya win some ya lose some Scott!
Thanks! 😊
Awesome job
Thanks Melvin!
Yupyupyup river siding looks great
Thank you Raymond!
Jim, I hope you know that you won the lottery with Lydia!!! House is looking great & I’m still waiting on the 🦞crawfish🦞 video about those mounds we talked about once. Keep on being awesome 💚edit: get yourself a drywall roll lifter/lifter, they’re like $12 or less & they will be useful putting the siding on & obviously the drywall inside when the time comes.
I definitely know that Jhae! I’m very lucky to have her! She keeps me in line😁 we will definitely look into one of those lifts. We will have to get some bacon and catch one for you now that it is warming up!
New Subscriber...Lovin the Vibe of your videos. Also add a thin bead of white water proof caulk on the one window. Siding looks Amazing👍👍👍❤
Thanks Jeffrey!! 😄😄
That is looking good. I had not heard of using this material but it makes sense to me. You guys are great...
Thank you Raymond!
It must feel great to start getting things sealed up! I was a little jealous at the beginning when you had grass to trim, it’s 25 this morning at my place here in Ohio. Spring has to get to us soon though. Keep up the good work!
It feels great Matt! We have been working super hard to get to this point. Hopefully you can enjoy some of this warm weather soon!
Definitely gonna be fun moving that camper. You guys are awesome!!
Thank you!!
Great progress. Don't fret forgetting the tape. Tape is great, but in the grand scheme of things, no sweat. I love the way you make time for family, family time is the best. It is great to see you enjoying your surroundings. One other thing, while I am not a huge safety nut, that cement dust can be nasty stuff, be careful. Well wishes from Minnesota.
Thanks for the positivity Paul.
Stay warm up there! ♥️
Another great video guys...! Loved the river trip and great choice Jim...👍👍 Siding looks great too...! I did the same thing (forgot the tape) so I consulted a construction engineer and he suggested using an Industrial Construction Sealant called Sikaflex 1a... I did & found that it is an excellent waterproofing calking I used on my windows in 2003 and still no leaking. Amazon has it too...
Lydia was pretty happy about the decision too! 😁🛶
Thanks for letting us know about the sealant! We will look it up on Uncle Amazon!
Looks great. 😀
Thank you!!
Saying Hi from West Virginia. Good job ya’ll !! I love watching the videos and love seeing the progress.
Hey y’all!! 🍑🐊
Glad to have you along for the journey!!
Good work
Looking great, I think you have convinced me to look a little harder at cement board for my shed, the board looks nice and very easy to install. I think Jim is right with all the caulking ya'll did on the windows, you should be just fine don't let it bother you, ya'll are doing an amazing job. I'm glad you are still taking time to relax and get away from the house, it will really pay off later in the project. This is another great video, I look forward to every one of them. Have a great week, Love ya'll and be blessed.
Absolutely worth it!! Let us know how it works out for you if you decide to go with the fiber cement. Thanks for supporting us ♥️ sending love your way & we hope you have a great rest of your weekend.
Thank you very much! I would definitely recommend this siding. It is very heavy but it seems really durable. We hope that you have a great weekend!
I’ve worked with that 4x8 concrete panels you all are doing great! Just a thought.. Maybe with the right nail pull. You could get the nails out. Using a 1x4 to press against to protect the siding. Then renail obviously in other spot’s. Caulking the original holes the batons will cover it up . With putting trim & shutters around the windows it will be perfect. . Dang from watching you all pretty much from the pour to the framing what an accomplishment you've taken the back seat to no one great job 👏 see you on the next one😁👍🙏✌oh good to see the cutie pie inspector back on the job❤
Thank you Jim!! 😄😃
We wish she wouldn’t have been sleeping on the job when it was time to tape up the windows 😂😀😬
Even the pros make mistakes. You guys are doing a fantastic job on the house. I look forward to your new video every week and can only imagine what it's going to be like completed.
Thanks Jose!! 😁
Both of u are looking great..jim n lydia. 👍👍👍👍😘😘😘 keep it up..👍👍👍
Thank you!
🌟💜🌟
Y’all live in an enchanted forest!
Yes!!!
looking lovely guys x
Thank you Jackie!
Good job 👍🏼
Thank you!
Your home is beautiful and I love the videos and your family
Thank you Paula!
Just caulk the top of the window trim....and it will be fine...no worries
I’m new to the channel. Love the dedication to progress and seeing how you overcome the bumps along the way. I voted for the river too. 🤪
Thank you for joining us!
Good choice. Go to the river! Take the time to make good memories. Bummer about missing AquaSeal. Was that the little one's room? Thanks for sharing
Forgot The other before window also but it doesn't matter either way it's all good
🤯😬🙈 We just realized!! DANG IT!
Thank You ! Great Video ! I'm checking out the cement board sheets for my house build...
Its worth it! Hope it works as good for you as it will us 😊
That’s how you learn. Good job.
I kept looking for ivory-billed woodpeckers on the boat ride.
Great video guys!👍🏻
Thank you James! 😃
Love it. God is good
♥️🐊
Seems like we forgot the tape on the next window to. Then decided let's go to the river. Hey work hard play harder. You guys are doing a great job!!!
We sure did. 😢🙈
We made sure to do the window tape first on the other sides!!
Heck yeah! 🎣🛶
Thanks for the positivity!!
Ya'll are doing a great job and every house has a mistake in almost every room it happens to all of us.
Happens to the best of us! Hey, if you don’t make a mistake then you aren’t trying something new!
Looks great you guys and I can not wait to go fishing, snow up here again lol
Yuck! Stay warm Rick! We will catch a few extra for ya! 🎣
Yup we all make mistakes and it's easy to criticize, to be honest I think by the time you trim the windows and seal I don't think you will have a problem especially if you are thinking of building covered walkways/ porches and decking etc around that area. You both are doing a fantastic job and I am looking forward to seeing the completed house.
Thank you very much Des! You are probably right. We still have several steps left to do and it will probably be more than enough protection. Thank you for the nice comment and thank you very much for watching!
Looks great! That should be really durable siding!
Thanks Marc! Fingers crossed!
it's coming along great you're doing a good job
Thanks Perry!
@@CajunCountryLivin Your more than welcome...
Excelente trabalho 👍👏👏👏👏
We just installed James Hardie cedar mill planks on our house. My husband and I did it ourselves. Took FOREVER, but it is finally done! The one thing I would have done differently, was put that rubber stuff at the bottom where the concrete meets the osb siding. I asked my hubby to do that before we started the siding, but he said it wasn't necessary. I complely disagree. Now, I'm thinking of removing the bottom plank on the entire perimeter of the house myself just to use the rubberized barrier😒. We don't disagree on much, but this is something I might have to tackle myself while he's at work😂 Wish me luck😂😂
You guys did a super job on your place! It's always great to save tons of money and not have to hire it out!
Looks great 👍
Thank ya JoJo!
the gun has a depth adjustment at the tip
Looks fab guys! Each thing you add makes it look more like a home… wouldn’t want to be you caulking all those nail holes for paint though!! Maybe worth taping all the windows in one go before putting any more siding up, that way you won’t forget any more!! Keep up the great work, and enjoy the river!
Thank you! That’s a good idea Mik.
Thanks, Good idea using cement board, I wonder if you can score and snap the cement board, I used 7 in wide cement board siding planks for battens and it looks good
haha Jim and Lydia you are doing and amazing job on that siding and as far as that widow flashing I was yelling at you that you didn't have the flashing on but I guess you didn't here me lol and a far as that window goes you will be old and gray before that fails. your nice sunny warm t-shirt and shorts weather gives me a lift and some fishing or just being on the water would be great you all are inspiring love your videos have a great day from cold Eastern Ontario Canada
Thank you so much Perry! We surely wish that we could send you some of this warm weather!
Good morning all!
Good morning Gene!!!
Great family….Merica 🍻🇺🇸👍
Enjoy watching your videos from NZ. And the difference in building styles.
Thank you Robin!
@@CajunCountryLivin was fibre cement board ever considered to be put horizontally and not as wide to get a weatherboard sliding look? Wide meaning 200mm
We did consider that option Robin, but we wanted this vertical option for the board and batten look.
@@CajunCountryLivin sweet. One difference is cavity battens, in the early 2000’s we use to do it that way. But we had leaky buildings and rot due to trapped moisture, hopefully not an issue in the States.
Meaning we use a cavity batten system now.
I wouldn't worry too much about the windows with the missing tape. It looks like you have a decent overhang, and I suspect you are planning on adding some trim around the windows (with lots of caulk) to keep the rain out. I'm enjoying following the build process, great job!
We sure will Marshall. 😀 Thanks for the reassurance & positivity.
My thoughts would be to use the scrap to build some raised garden beds and maybe a sand box for Ladly. Just a thought.
Great idea!
Get a bug zapper and stick a chunk of meat in the middle the wasps will be drawn to it and zapp. You can also make one by building a frame with a metal grid on it and attaching a car battery to the metal. They land and zap. That's how I deal with the wasps that make ground nests. Set the box grid with the metal grid (small holes so they can't just fly out) over the hole and clip on the battery cables. Keeps kids and pets away and sit back and watch the sparks fly.
They didn’t have all this tape and waterproof stuff in the old days so it will be ok. Hopefully it will have a lot of air movement. That way it won’t mold or rot.
You will be fine. Just make sure that you foam the shim space from the inside with low-expanding polyurethane (closed cell) insulation. It will provide continuity with the house wrap.
Hey! Do you install this kind of siding?
Making mistakes all in learn it looks absolutely gorgeous 😍 have wonderful weekend GOD BLESS
People that never make mistakes are people that don’t try anything new.. so that being said we are bound to make PLENTY of mistakes! Lol. Have a great weekend also ♥️
The site foreman was having nap time, that why you forgot to tape the window, lol. Great video, it really is starting to look like a home now.
That’s EXACTLY what happened. I guess that what sleeping on the job gets you. Lol thanks Mags. 😁
