    • @ecoorbits701
      @ecoorbits701 7 років тому +2

      Roofing Companies CT no primer and paint on the ends, no proper flashing. plus can you say "class action lawsuit"? these guys are teaching people to cut Hardie plank the way the manufacturer say NOT to. the dust is among the most hazardous out there and all you have to do is score and snap it. plus they're wearing dust mask not respirator. you all should learn how to build.... and read

    • @Cutter1018
      @Cutter1018 6 років тому +6

      You can cut the stuff with a circular saw, and the correct blade. Since the blade was spinning in this video, one cannot determine what blade is being used. Also, per the manufacturer's instructors, a NIOSH approved respirator is what is required. A quick search on Google of all places, show that what Tommy is wearing, is in fact, NIOSH approved.

  • @allenstone8731
    @allenstone8731 8 років тому +6

    The bottom piece of flashing they installed at the 1:20 mark of the video is done incorrectly. Whether installing a drainage plane (siding attached directly to the building without an airspace between) or a rain screen (siding attached to cleats, nailers, vents, etal to create an airspace) you always "shingle"materials so that they overlap the material below. The z angle should have been installed with the upper leg BEHIND the building paper so that the paper overlapped the leg. Caulking the back of the z angle wouldn't be necessary in this manner of installation but couldn't hurt. Look at the Tyvek video on UA-cam on how to install windows. The mantra in the industry now - and has been since about 2008 - is overlap, overlap, overlap. If your building envelope is properly shingled and you used appropriate materials then the siding portion of your building envelope won't leak. As a byproduct of this installation, the building paper helps protect even a coated flashing from the chemical reaction of with cementitious materials. Also, the lath (starter strip in industry lingo) should be pressure treated or you can use a lengthwise cut section of the siding material. Nails should never be placed within an inch of the top (or bottom) of siding and never within one half inch of the ends.

    decreased exposure, but that's okay. Not painting the cuts will void warranty if JH branded, as well they have a impregnated nailing line above the tabs, not lower...which was done due to smaller exposure. Ringshank nails either stainless or galv are adequate...save the stainless for the face nailing and use galvanized on the non exposed....too much money to waste on bigger projects.

      In my area, Fiber cement generally costs $3 to $4 per square foot. Cedar siding can run $5 to $7 per square foot.
      Also keep in mind that the maintenance required with cedar siding adds thousands to the overall cost. You will need to paint or stain cedar siding every 3-5 years, and periodically repair or replace the shingles or panels.

    -- snip -- removed something dumb I said years ago when I didn't know much about historic architectural styles.

      @@kenc2257 Oh jeez I forgot I made that comment. I barely knew anything about architecture history at that time. I've learned a lot since then including the prevalence of x-over-2 windows in New England architecture. I definitely don't think they're awkward now.

    So he nails on the studs and then ends a board there? Wtf. Hes gonna have nails showing in the keyways. So dumb!

    • @13612
      @13612 4 роки тому

      he's trying to make it wicked strong by direct nailing into stud layout...the shiner factor can be taken care of with a paint pen a lot easier if done before next piece is shot....but no big deal...still easy to paint especially given this isn't colored and has to be painted anyway.

    bad way to install it, I don't know how they call themselfs professional installers you have to install 48,32,16 first row and 4th row you have to start again 48,32,16, also the piece behind your first panel have to at least 8 1/4 inches, also your nails have to be always on top of one of the lines of that way you never will see a nail or leak.

      I agree, also over lap (review should be 7") like he mentioned but he did @ 4", not to mention the flashing should be behind WRB!!

      I dropped my exposure to 5 inches on a dormer for aesthetics...I think maybe that is what he was doing here, but should have explained the proper 7 inch exposure and 8 1/4 starter course and nail placement to avoid seeing nails.....not done per spec at all for JH from the first 1 1/4 that will rot out and not priming cuts to scoring it for a crude/rough end cut....only way for smooth cut is a good blade...shears are good for ripping but horrible for a crisp cut if that matters ...which is the whole point of this product...aesthetics.
