  • Taurine Talk with Dr. Vijay K. Yadav
According to a new study involving mice, non-human primates, and humans; taurine supplementation extends healthy lifespan. Let's speak with Vijay K. Yadav who is one of the researchers.
    Vijay's Brief Biography
Vijay K. Yadav (born 1977) is an American biologist and biogerontologist. He is currently a faculty at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University. Overarching theme of Dr. Yadav’s laboratory is to investigate how (semi)essential nutrients regulate whole-body homeostasis, and how this process gets dysregulated during aging to identify novel avenue to treat diseases of aging. His research in the last two decades has shown that self-imposed domestication in humans has led to an imbalance in nutrient-genetic interactions leading to increased incidence of diseases. Dr. Yadav is best known for his research on evolutionarily conserved mechanisms of aging, in particular on how nutrients such as vitamin B12 and taurine regulate aging.

Senior citizen. Got interested in Taurine approx 6 months ago. Started supplementing 3gs per day (with Creatine 3gs pd) in water. Colour of body hair is most noticeable change, has much less grey and more natural colour now and bizarrely my eye sight prescription for reading has slightly improved!... Our dog had a bad penetrating eye injury late last year with subsequent corneal melting, almost lost the eye. Started adding small amount of Taurine to the dog's water post anti-biotics etc and he has had an amazing recovery with just residual corneal clouding apparent after 3 months (since injury)...

Thank you for this study! This is why eating grass fed beef has great longevity benefits!

I have severe pancreatic insufficiency and figure this is an area I need to explore as I am already at less than 5% function, and taurine is mostly synthesized in the pancreas.

We were fortunate enough to catch the signs of dialated cardiomyopathy in our 10 yr. old dog, months after switching her to a grain-free diet. Taurine supplementation relieved her symptoms and prevented further damage. She'll be 14 yrs in June, and we continue to feed no-grain and supplement daily with Taurine.

I take a capsule nightly...it is a precursor of gaba in the brain, and tends to relax muscles nicely so one can sleep well after hard exercise. I don't take it on the day but there is a dear friend who's anxiety comes on due to her pro dopamine brain ( sometimes) and her menopause, takes a taurine 500 mg even in the day and does not get tired but is able to focus and be happy again.

This prompted me to read up on this. One reference said that taurine can be produced by our bodies from the breakdown of the amino acid cysteine. And while most taurine sources are animal, cysteine sources are plant-based, including especially chickpeas/garbanzos, couscous, lentils, oats, and walnuts. So a question worth exploring, I'd think, is could a taurine deficiency be the result of a cysteine deficiency, and can a taurine deficiency can be mitigated by a cysteine supplementation, either dietary or otherwise. - And thank you both for this excellent and honest scientific presentation.

Also another anti aging amino acid are glycine and NAC ..taken at 2-8 grams each restores your glutathione levels..back to the level when in your 20's.

More good objective evidence based info Dr Mobeen. You’re a valuable source.

Magnesium taurate was very helpful for heart arrhythmias I experienced years ago while recovering from post-viral syndrome. I have continued and now take Taurine combined with a fat-soluble form of Magnesium (Sucrosmial Magnesium) that is very effective, as well as AlliThiamine which is a novel form of fat-soluble thiamine. There is something very good feeling about this combination. I believe that my eyesight improved as well after beginning Taurine.

  • @elisabethlavoie7655

Taurine was present in the original energy drink krating daeng from Thailand. It was taken as a refreshment and tonic.

  • @martharobinson7896

Thank you to you and your wonderful guest.

  • @ClaireChaker-qr8ty

    Most excellent interview! Thank you

It was a relief to hear an expert talk about ethnicity and diet. I have thought a Mediterranean Diet would be ideal for people evolved to eat that diet over generations. I doubt an Eskimo would thrive on an Indian vegetarian diet or an Indian vegetarian would thrive on an Eskimo carnivore diet. One size does not fit all. Over generations, Americans may evolve to thrive on the SAD (standard American diet) of junk food.
