The other day I was thinking about selling the Fiero I never drive and then realized my dad owns a Buick where the only good part is the engine, a 3800 series II. Now I think I'll keep the Fiero, buy the Buick from him, and start a project!
Youre awesome man. I had an 85 2m4 fiero in high school (mid 90s) and i just bought a 87 fiero gt. Its the i WANTED when i was in high school. Im realizing now just how badly i want a 3800SC swap. You are an inspiration to me!
Soooo what were the final numbers for this buuild?? I kinda was hoping tha after the whole series and install an showing yur app you would share what the end result is?? I love these cars and from the sound of it and looks,ITS A AMAZING FIERO that you should be very PROUD of(anyone see what i did there.. 👍🙂👍
I want to say thank you so much for posting your videos! Watched them all in two days! Very helpful and looks easy to do! I do have a question as far as the test drive went. I heard rattling going on when driving. Is this just interior noise? Is it something to do with the swap? Also your transmission shifter? Is that the stock one or is that custom? I have a 88 Fiero that I would like to do this swap on one day here soon. Keep up the good work and that’s is again for posting and all the info on the swap!
That T on the coolant line would be a good place to put a valve to bleed the cooling system instead of having to jack up the front and burp the coolant.
Your video showing the Dayco radiator hoses was very helpful to me. Thanks! But, since the direction of coolant flow is in reverse on a 3800sc vs a Fiero engine, how did you overcome that problem when you reached the front radiator? Did you do a crossover with the hoses. What hoses did you use?
I was originally planning on painting it but it has gotten to cold and I couldn't get my garage warm enough for the paint to set right so I paid to have it painted. I fiberglassed scoops into the fenders and will be cutting a hood vent when the weather warms a bit so sometime this spring will probably post a video on those upgrades. I'm not sure if I'll paint them or just keep having them painted by a shop.
I finally got my 1986 gt!! I have lots of questions, first will my factory 5 speed bolt too my 1997 3800 super. l had to look a long time to get a gt that is a manual shift trans. secondly are Grand prix wheels the look like gt wheels but are 16" fit my 86 gt? Where can I get front fiero gt badging. anyone make upholstery kit for seats and headliner. what doaner car can I use to up grade suspension? thanks I had owned two fieros in the past a 85 gt and a 86 well optioned base.
Hey Jeep Guy! Thanks for come back to the Fiero world. We're glad to have you back. Both the V6 Fiero transmissions (4 spd & 5spd) will bolt up to the 3800 engine. You will need a custom machined flywheel from I believe a Camaro to use in the swap. You can also use a stage 2 or better clutch. The FieroStore has an HD RAM clutch that also would work. The only thing you have to be aware of is NOT doing burnouts with the Fiero transmission. You'll snap the gears. Once the clutch is fully engaged you can get on it all you want. It just can't handle the burnouts. The FieroStore also sells badges too. Funny you mention upholstery. I just ordered new seat covers for my car. I recommend checking out MrMikes.com for new seat covers. They are hands down the BEST you can get. Check out his website and if you call he's GREAT to chat with. Just tell him that Mark (LostNotForgotton from UA-cam) recommended him. I'll be promoting his seats later in my video series. For Brakes people have been using Grand Am brake upgrades because they are cheap and easy. I don't know much about them but I do have plans to do a how-to video on installing C5 Corvette brakes in the front a C4 Corvette brakes in the rear. Stay tuned for that one too! Keep the questions coming. I'm slow to respond but I will get back to you.
What did you do for a wiring harness? I have a 3800SC series 3 I'm looking to put in my 86GT. Also I have some questions on emission related stuff to delete. Thanks...
Thanks for checking out my final hookups video! I have a series of videos for the 3800 install you should check out. There is a video I have on the wiring harness along with the contact information. I got my harness from Injection Technology. I'd suggest giving them a call and letting them know what you're looking for in a harness. They will custom build the harness to your specs. Here is a link to my wiring install video: ua-cam.com/video/u9-3CZnjsOE/v-deo.html
l042987 FieroRog is a good source for brackets and I believe he makes clutches too if your going with a manual transmission. His email should be in the video I posted on installing the FieroRog brackets. If you don't see it I can give it to you. I do have plans for 1 more 3800 video of questions and answers for doing a 3800 build. In the description I plan on having all the links to parts. The script is written it's just a matter of getting around to recording it.
I believe a stock supercharged 3800 should get you somewhere in the low 13 second quarter mile range and mild bolt on's can easily get you into the high 12's. For 0-60 it should be in the 4 second range. I was going to do a video on performance specs of a Fiero but I only got to drive my 3800 Fiero for 2 hours before someone pulled out in front of me and totalled it. Now I have to build another one. If you haven't seen my videos on that just look at my 'Home Shop Swap Garage' videos. I'm still working on them but it's going through the tear down of my old Fiero and building another one.
Welcome to the 3800 world. Enjoy the ride.

Great build

How did you
Make the stock fiero shifter work with the 4t65 because the 4t is a 4 speed
So did the Rodney Dickman adjustable dog bone work?
Did you paint that panel? It looks great! Id love to see that process

Sounds like your co-pilot had more fun on the test drive than you did, lol
Didi you use the fiero's stock shifter cables?
What was your total cost if you dont mind?
Any updates on how it's working now that it's 2019 lol.
I am wondering the same thing.... Its like watching a movie, and it ends with the opportunity for a sequel....
Check the channel... It's unfortunate
Im starting a 3800 swap in a few weeks, do u have a contact email for questions and list of what special parts i need to aquire

Where did you place the intercooler
How the Fiero SHOULD have been built. Might have been the car GM billed at as in the beginning.
im curious what zero to 60 numbers are and quarter mile anyone know?
