I have this unit, took me week to figure out there was an issue. The filter allows lint to plow by and block the heat pump coils, causing it to increase dry times and over heating. However, there is fix, a couple videos on UA-cam show the fix, add weather stripping to back, and bottom and top. I did this and now have never had any lint in the lower drain plug filter. Works great now, no issues. I was super frustrated until I figured this out.
I know exactly the post you are referring to. I am using the silicone sealant around the filter. I also clean out the filter and area after EVERY use (and when using the new Pet hair feature, I clean the filter before the wash starts, to remove hair and dander from the filter). I've never had clumps of lint inside the filter chamber. My machine is 7 months old and I really love it. Fingers crossed that the machine will last - for both of us. Good luck!
I bought one of these in Dec 2023. I love this machine. Being able to put a load in and have it come out clean and dry is great. As with any washer/dryer, (separates or all in one) maintenance is important. The more loads you do, the more often the cleaning of the machine(s) is required. 1. I modified the filter. This is something GE should have done. There is a youtuber that added weather stripping along the top and bottom edge of the filter and along the back. This reduces the lint that can get past the filter in these locations. Since doing so I have found little to no lint on the blue fins of the condensing coil. 2. I regularly vacuum out the filter housing. Also, I clean the filter after every load. 3. You have to clean the water pump filter also. If you have pets you need to do this more frequently. I have no pets so I do on the first of each month. 4. The youtuber that came up with the filter mod also has a video on how to do a deep cleaning. Again how often you do this depends on the number of loads you do. It should be noted that even with a separate dryer, lint is a problem that needs to be addressed. You will need to not only clean the filter and the area around it, but you will also need to clean the duct work. This include the duct in the machine as well as the duct work that vents outside. So maintenance on the GE Profile all in one, is different but no more than on separates. It has to be done on a regular basis. What I saw in this video was the water pump filter had excessive build up. With pets and several kids, this filter needs to be cleaned more frequently. A recent GE update adds a pet cycle at the beginning of a wash cycle. It is in the menu section. It adds a cold air cycle, where high speed air is blown in and run through the filter. This dry air helps to reduce pet hair prior to washing. GE: Please modify the filter to include seal around the edges of the filter. We should not have to do this ourselves.
@@maf11300 I agree. They also need to update the manual with monthly cleaning of the pump and cleaning the lint filter every single time, like you mentioned. Following the guidelines they have written will set you up for failure, fast.
I just want to state that if your cylindrical filter, came out just like that in this video, something was definitely out of waked! I have been seeing a common pattern here about combos W&D. Please make sure you read the instructions and make research before you purchase. I will mention 3 important factors here. 1- if you are a family of 5 that only do laundry on Sundays this machine is not for you 2- Max load says 10 Pounds at time I have try 15 and 20 but selecting garments per materials type 3- DO NOT use softener under no circumstances. Things I notice from your video, sticky lint coming out of the main filter with long strains with heavy secondary foam filter buildup, an unusually clogged lower cylindrical filter and lastly a heavy discoloration of the microban color on the main seal. Ours have been working flawlessly for now I will keep all updated Thanks for the excellent content as usual !
Thanks for the review on the GE UltraFast Combo! We have had our Ultrafast since June and so far so good for operation. Since the beginning the one issue has been lint getting past the filter with GE not offering a solution on their own. Would be nice for GE to develop a lint trap with a thin rubber gasket to go around the entire lint trap to get a better seal. However, there are video’s showing Modification’s by adding foam door seals to help the issue. I operated it without the modification and it was ok, however there was much build up for lint WAY IN THE BACK cut out for the lint filter. I attached a 1 inch foam filter to the back of the filter from one of those video’s and that helped a lot to block the lint buildup in that area of the trap. Before I had a very little lint buildup on the COILS, since the modification even less has occurred if any. I have not done the gasket modification for the bottom or top of the lint trap and not sure whether I will do such at this point. I do get a little lint on the very top of the trap but it generally is clinging to the back filter. Been cleaning the lint trap after every load and the PUMP FILTER (bottom trap door on front of the Ultrafast) every month. However not doing so many loads as you are doing with your busy family life. Those video clips included do show LOTS of build up especially that pump filter, was most of that hair? That was unreal when I saw that filter being so clogged. You may have needed to clean that area twice a month with that much buildup. I know WHY SHOULD I GO THOUGH ALL THESE HOOPS. I get it! Sorry you had so much trouble with the GE Ultrafast, just glad you were able to get a refund to apply to another system to suit your family needs. Good luck!
WAS GOING TO BUY THAT GE COMBO BUT THANKS TO YOU I SAVED THOUSANDS JUST REPAIRED MY OLD SCHOOL WASHER AND DRYER FOR 375.00 AND NOW THEY WORK BETTER THAN THAT GE COMBO THAT TAKES 4-5 HOURS TO DO ONE LOAD AND NEEDS A REFRIGERATOR COMPRESSOR TO DRY THE CLOTHES THE GE EDSEL WASHER & DRYER COMBO
Yep, same here- 9 months and the machine no longer dried our laundry. Luckily we were still able to wash after the repairman left and were given the suggestion of setting the dry time for even longer than the almost 2 hours we had been setting it for. We had the same experience with the delay in receiving the parts but the customer service was great. They extended our warranty by 9 months and sent free cleaning brushes. It took about a month to get parts (the heat pump had to be replaced) but we’ve had no issue since the repair. Fingers crossed!
I just got this machine recently. Will keep an eye on lint buildup and look to follow the videos others posted about fixing this issue. Praying it keeps working as well as it works now. I love it so far, but time is the real indicator and I haven't had it long enough.
We also experienced the Error Code 353 overheating issue. I had it looked at the next day and our tech said the diagnostic test indicated everything was operating within normal limits. The filter, coils, and drain filter were clean. I think the problem was the sensor kept detecting wetness/humidity and kept it drying too long. We switched to timed drying for a while and had no issues. Eventually returned to auto sensor drying and experienced the problem again. With a flashlight I saw there was a lot of wet lint inside the machine that wasn't getting dried out and making it to the filter to be collected and removed. This was probably the source of moisture that kept the dryer running until it overheated. It was difficult to access and remove, and a large clump fell back down into the machine, but after washing a load it all collected in the drain filter. Haven't had a problem since getting that wet lint out of the machine. There really needs to be a service opening for the user to have better access to clean the coils and the large area before (to the left of) the filter to keep things clean. It is ridiculous trying to keep everything clean going through the narrow filter opening.
This makes a lot of sense. I just deep cleaned the left side of the lint filter cavity and got a squirrel sized lump of lint out! Even though I clean the filter area regularly after 2-3 loads. The lint lump was causing a lot of moisture absorption and extending the dry time by a lot.
Yes, was going to say, Mine I have had for almost a year now with no issue. BUT I have 2 people in my house and do a lot of small loads not a house of 7. I would not even know where to start with that much laundry! LOL I did do the Filter Lint fix as mentioned below because I was a bit paranoid about the lint build up on the heat pump coils. Since doing that minor upgrade no lint is passing through. My only maintenance now is to run warm water through the fabric softener auto dispenser as I have had issues where the softener "gunk" built up. I love mine the fact I don't have to swap from a washer to a dryer is awesome!
Combos are NOT for large families like this. There is nothing wrong with the parts in this thing. It just needs to be taken apart the coils in the heat pump need to be cleaned out. The filter housing is flawed. It has a large cavity in the back where lint can get through and gunk up the coils. The cavity was added to satisfy the ADA to make the filter screen easier to pull out of the machine if you can believe that. You have to modify the filter screen by adding a piece of foam to the back end of it that will fill up that cavity and block the lint, also helps to add some weather stripping around the edges of the filter screen, leave the filter screen out of the machine when not in use to keep the filter housing dry which also helps prevent lint from getting stuck in there. But once this machine gets opened up and the heat pump coils cleaned out and all connections checked to be sure they are properly seated then this machine will fire back up just like new.
I had the ge combo and nothing but problems Three different units all had balance issues. I like the unit but the balance issue was a headache very loud. I took the credit and bought the lg washer dryer combo. Very happy. Very quiet.
Sorry that happened. I'm hoping it's just a handful of units, but time will tell. Hope mine lasts. I can't imagine having anything else. I love this combo unit so much
CAVET EMPTOR! We bought this combo in January 2024. On June 1, 2024 it failed. Repairman stated it was the control boards which they had to order. One month later the control boards came in and then they decided it was the discharge pump too that was bad. Another 6 weeks waiting for the pump to come in. Finally got the thing repaired today on September 3. OVER 3 MONTHS with no washer/dryer. He also stated that 12 other people in my area that purchased these have/had exactly the same problems. Before the repairman left, he indicated that based on his experience, he will be back to repair in the future as there seems to be a design flaw in that homeowners are not able to remove lint/hair in certain areas of the machine which are hard to reach or unreachable all together. Now we are in a position wondering if when we press the start button, will it work? This is really unacceptable. This unit is NOT inexpensive-very high price to buy. GE should stand behind and totally refund everyone that purchased one of these faulty machines-else I predict a class action against GE on the horizon.
I am SO SORRY. They asked if we wanted to replace ours with a new one at the appliance store. A big NO from me on that one!!! I need something reliable.
i wish i had seen this earlier. we just bought this ge combo unit. at first i was rooting for a speed queen combo but the obvious advantages of this system carried the day. thank you for the tips on brushes in your other video. i'm ordering them now. it's obvious that the filter does an inadequate job of of protecting the heat exchanger fins so this will require careful maintenance, along with the drum gasket issues you cover. thank you for the heads up. i hope our luck is better and appreciate the time you took here.
I want to add since I didn’t see it mentioned. What spin speed is everyone using? I run mine at ultra fast because it significantly reduces the drying duty and lint. I haven’t needed it yet but I just ordered the brushes to clean the coils. Other than that I just got a vacuum attachment and I clean out the inside as best I can and my coils are pretty clean.
had one for a month. it imparts a burnt diesel smell to the clothes during the drying cycle, from the compressor coils.. if your odor sensitive or have allergies, it will make you sick.
@@tamaralaird3389 I think that might be a boring update! It’s very fast and easy, no issues and clean clothes. Cleaning the lint is so basic that it feels like a walk in the park compared to the GE Combo.
We had the exact same problems with ours and we're on round 2 under a year of having GE come out. Same parts wait time, but the seller won't budge on giving me a credit so I can purchase something else. I won't put up with the BS this time if they won't give me a store credit. I'll bite the bullet, buy different brand at a different retailer. This was my 1st GE purchase and will be the last.
In case this helps anyone, this was our fix. We had the same 353 error code issue and the machine was getting really hot. Same thing with GE telling us it is out of warranty. We watched a lot of videos and did the same that everyone suggested, we washed the foam filter. The last tech that came out to look at it asked if we washed the filter and I said yes. He washed the ENTIRE filter with warm water. The part of the filter you see at 2:45 we never even thought of washing and that is what was clogged. After washing the white mesh part of the filter, the machine started working normally again.
Agree with this comment, we got the same error and washing the main mesh filter (which is clogged due to very fine lint) has worked great. GE has updated their cleaning video to highlight the mesh filter cleaning periodically ua-cam.com/video/FR8jN36U4x8/v-deo.html
@@ter450 I just want to make sure we are on the same page with this, when you say clean the filter and replace the filter, are you talking about the black sponge filter? That is what we thought the first time as well but actually what you want to make sure you are cleaning is the whole white mesh filter that the black sponge goes into, and wiping the lint out is not sufficient. you actually have to take the whole thing and wash it. If you put it up to the light you may see that it is clogged. Either way, what we had to do was wash the whole thing and then it worked
Hello. Have had this for 3 days. I put a small load in last night on quick wash setting. When I woke up my phone notified me that it had been running on combination load for 80 minutes? What does that mean ? Washed several loads before on same setting and it never said this ?
Yeah, I have a problem over and over and it smells like fire something, I got very frustrated until I gave it up and I threw it out on the curbs and I called the company about it. So I bought Electrolux, it is front load and dryers load. I'm not too fond of the combo.
I have had my GE all in one for about 3 weeks and I adore it. I am a bit nervous about longevity, so I am diligent about cleaning the lint and got those lint brushes. We did purchase a warranty just in case, but man laundry is a breeze right now!
@ashleybarney88 you should not have any troubles, you also have a very good warranty if something comes up. Please review all instructions in the user manual stick to them!
We have had this unit for over a year now. Love it. One time it was not drying right. Do the self clean like it ask, clean the lint filter and do the other stuff it says to do. You will have no problems.
We’ve had ours for a full year now with zero issues ever. We don’t do laundry excessively so that could be why. We do a load every other day. I did buy the factory extended warranty so I should be fully reimbursed if anything were to ever happen. And I’ll gladly have them replace with the same unit. Not to impressed with the other combo units that have hit the market
@@smitastic7030 highly doubt it as many others love theirs and have the same experience I do. On top of that, I have the 5 year extended warranty so nothing really to worry about at all.
I had an LG and it would only wash a few times then be completely clogged where it would not dry after time. The maintenance on these combos are high and theres just so much that can go wrong in the crammed machine! The debate of space saving electric savings VS more downtime/maintenance is the question. Since it is just me, it should be ok but my pets make it as dirty as if i did many loads!
Geez. 9 months isn't very long. My machine is 7 months old. Fingers crossed. I really hate to have to go back to a 2 machine laundry and outside venting of the dryer. Thanks for the recommendation. I sincerely hope I won't need it.
Same here. My husband wasn’t happy with the outside vent being back in the game, or the 2nd machine. That said, it’s WAY faster, and we haven’t had one thing stuck in the door gasket completely soaked. I really hope they nail it down, but it just wasn’t here yet, no matter how much I cleaned it. Best of luck!
We’ve had an uneventful laundry room since we got our SQ set. Clean, quick loads. No warnings. No nonstop maintenance. I’m happy with the swap, although I do wish the other had panned out better.
My combo is 8 months old and I’m starting to have problems with drying. I have bragged on this machine to all of my friends how much I loved it! No error codes yet, but trouble is definitely brewing. I’m so sad!
Clean out your lower filter but be ready for a flood. When mine started having issues drying, that thing was full and I had even cleaned it within the month. Gallons of water backed up. Be prepared.
@@thehometownhomestead I do clean that regularly. Even when it’s freshly cleaned I can get a load that absolutely won’t dry. I have 2 choices when that happens. Hang my dripping clothes on the clothesline OR start the load completely over from scratch, including wash. That has resolved it each time so far, but I’m afraid that won’t always work.
You need to purchase the top filter modification kit or do watch the video and do it yourself. The problem with the GE all-in-one compared to LG and Samsung is that it doesn't have a self-clean mode that rinses the coils on the heat pump and when the lint gets pass the filters and settles on the coils it causes the unit to fail.
Not the TR speed queen😭I hated the one I used, cuz it didn’t seem to clean well. I searched up some videos online of it washing to see if I was going insane or not, turns out I wasn’t. It’s HORRIBLE! I get the reliability aspect but I would not like to be stuck with those things for 39 years😂 best of luck on ur set though, hope it goes well!
Well we got the classic clean speed queen . After our nightmare experience with our GE 850 profile series washer , that GE refused to honor their warranty on 1000 bucks down the drain after only 8 months of use .
@@cary277 we love them. Super fast, clean clothes, and next to no maintenance. The lint trash is super easy to clean. Would recommend it every day of the week.
I heard SQ is the best in US, but nothing can compare to the front load washing machine washing results. Yes theres is room for more improvement for sure. But the results are better in terms of washing then top loads. There is tons of proof of that. Congrats on the new units
I bought one washer and one dryer in my lifetime and they still work to this day and never had any repairs but only maintenance. Reliability is more important than energy efficiency as there is no cost effectiveness with energy savings when repair costs takes away the benefit. I also like being able to try my clothes in 15 minutes. Power is also dirt cheap in America. Just my opinion.
Well if you have 2, the 2 month wait for parts wouldn’t be so terrible? 😆 I don’t regret the purchase, but I’m grateful to have my Speed Queen set now. Sometimes the “new/cool” toy just isn’t quite ready. Good luck with your purchase.
WOW... all that lint! I hope NOT from one load. I clean the filter after every load, don't overstuff the machine and run the clean cycle once a month. After 9 months of ownership, I've not had anything - lint or otherwise in the pump filter. Machine was worked flawlessly.
I would be surprised if you get less than 10 years from the Speed Queen set, but I would be far more surprised if you get more than 20 years. Speed Queen is good with regard to reliability, and they are way better than the GE, but they are not as bulletproof as Alliance wants people to believe. Also, this TR set has a different wash action from traditional top load washers with agitators (& the TC series). My experience is that its cleaning performance of the TRs is on par with top loads that don't have an agitator, but can't compete with traditional agitators or with front load washers. I will be interested to hear if you find it adequate for the laundry you do.
At this point, clothes are cleaner than our Maytag (the set we initially replaced) top loader without the agitator. Also cleaner than the GE. I rarely have a shirt come out with spots still on it, even without spot treating all that the kids come home with. 😆 Even with the GE, I often had to run their shirts through a 2nd time with stain remover to get them clean. I was aware of the difference in the TC and TR, but thought this one would be best for us. I’ll keep you posted if a problem should arise, but so far so good!
i'm a household of one and can't stand this machine. anything i do and how little detergent i use my clothes have residue all over and it's driving me nuts. ill have to call service as well and hope they just trash it and i can get credit. those speed queens look perfect.
We purchased this machine new and about 11 months into it started to have the same problems. It will not dry. We did everything the same in this video. Its now just over a year and out of warranty and GE will not do anything for us. I suggest people add their names to the investigation of this machine and the class action lawsuit.
@@ancientearthways948 I will admit, I was thrilled to be able to swap machines and not run the repair cycle with the one. The idea is awesome. The execution just isn’t there.
I want to post this for you in case it may help.
I’m an appliance technician, with a family your size, you should have never never purchased the GE all in one. The GE Combo, is okay for a small family of 2. Excellent choice on your new purchase. You should have kept the GE and sell it for parts. They are actually not bad. They are limited. I wanted to say that your title is a little misleading. Given your laundry load. Plus GE/ whoever you originally purchased it from took care of you.
As a handyman, I can say that in the past 4 months, I have had to repair well over 50 of these types of all in one units. From my experience not onemof them is a good machine and GE is by far has more problems. The filters become clogged very fast and easy, as well as the coils that are part of the drying process that you can't get into without removing that top and back of the machine. In my estimation, they are a work in progress at best.
@thehometownhomestead : These machines are not that new. Back in the late 60s to early 70s, GE built a washer/dryer similar to what is on the market now. Unfortunately, that one didn't last either. The idea is there but I think you are right it needs a lot more work.
The door on my washer/dryer has locked up twice in 14 months. The repair guy had to break the lock so I could get the clothes out. Glad I took out an extended warranty.
So that GE had a spin speed of 1,300 RPM and was a heat pump dryer, so it used less than 1 kWh to wash and dry a load of clothes... the SperdQuern has a spin speed of 710 RPM and uses a 6,000 watt resistive heating element to boil out all that water the asthmatic spin in the washer couldn't get out, and then blows all that energy out of a 4 inch hole in the wall, consuming well over 4 kWh for a *smaller* load of clothes. All because GE botched the heat pump part of their combo, untold terawatt-hours of electricity will be wasted by people going back to vented fire-starter dryers. 😢
Well our speed queen spits out clean clothes faster than any dryer can dry them so we hang a lot outside in nice weather . And our washer doesn’t ever break .
@@kwhopper1100 Makes sense that drying times would be excessive and the washer would last a long time with such a lazy spin speed. These machines are designed and marketed for commercial, shared-use settings where the person (property owner) buying and installing the machine is *not* the person (poor vulnerable tenant or laundromat customer) who will be subjected to the excessive utility cost, miniscule capacity, or poor cleaning performance. They absolutely do last forever and have quick cycles. Because that's *all* they were designed to do. lol
@@dregenius it replaced a high speed front loader . It spins it out just as well the drying times are exactly the same . What actually changed is the washer is three times faster than the GE front loader it replaced . So even at 35 minute drying cycles which is what our dryer does it out runs the dryer . The GE front loader which destroyed itself after 8 months took one hour to wash a load of clothes and didn’t spin them out any better . Also what’s better for the environment , replacing a washer every year or two ? Or buying one machine that lasts 25 years and doesn’t create a lot of extra pollution due to manufacturing replacements over and over ? And like I said we simply hang out clothes to save energy anyways so a lot of the time our dryer does not run at all thus avoiding extra heat in the house to get rid of as well as eliminating the electrical use entirely .
this product deserved an automatic class action suit. everyone should have gotten a refund for this issue. we have the same model. pump failed twice now.
The repair man is not talking about you cleaning out the Bellow, he means you cleaning out the evaporator where you remove the filter. It’s referring to the refrigeration system that runs this. You basically have a window unit sitting on top of a washing machine.
You are a very optimistic person. That GE was three times the work. SpeedQueen is over doing it a bit. 😆. You gave up all your bells and whistles. SQ may be the "most" reliable, but not the only. There's plenty of feature rich consumer brands that cost 1/3 the price, and are reasonably reliable. Even the problematic models are inexpensive to have fixed.
@@kewlztertc5386 we have many friends who are happy, long time Speed Queen customers. This was our goal when we went shopping initially, before we came across the GE, and my SQ actually has bells and whistles. The great thing is, we got it swapped out at no extra cost. Everyone on the house is happier now. No wet socks, no nasty drains needing monthly servicing, and fast wash and dry times.
I saw one of these at Lowes. And I will ABSOLUTELY NOT recommend this machine or any other washing machine made by LG, Samsung, Maytag, or Whirlpool. Every new washer is nothing but problems. I will take a Speed Queen or buy a vintage Kenmore washer. GE used to bring good things to life, but they don't anymore, they were total failures nowadays compared to the GE (General Electric) company from the 1980s. My parents used to have old GE appliances since I moved to a rental house years ago, until I moved up north in 2005, and we had not one issue with calling customer service and the appliances were built a whole lot better back in the early 90s. In fact the GE dishwasher was the only dishwasher left in the rental house and still works after all these years. This is why I wish GE would bring back the good old Filter Flo washing machines like the ones from the 1980s. The GE Filter-Flo washer from the 1970s or 1980s were much better washing machines because GE was quality back in the 70s. GE is NOT the company like it used to be, when things lasted a long time, and ran flawlessly and were built like a tank. I miss the GE's "We Bring Good Things To Life" generation from the 80s. I am so glad you got a speed queen, because every HE washer people buy from Lowe's is garbage.
This sure sounds like an ad for Speed Queen more than anything. Yes, the GE has had its share of issues but folks in the comments below have found a solution to the 353 code. A salesman at a store near me is a straight shooter with me. I asked about the GE and he said he's sold quite a few and none have come back.
@@The-Friendly-Grizzly that’s awesome. Read deeper into the comments and you’ll see repairmen that have had the opposite experience, so hopefully yours works well. Several of my friends had struggled also, but hopefully the have fixed the issue at this point.
@@thehometownhomestead I don't have one and never will as I have no use for such a thing. I had the latest conventional offering from GE (separate washer and dryer) and sent them back due to very early failure and strange screeching noises from within the washer. The only thing available was Samsung at the time so, fingers are crossed. So far, so good. My brand of choice is LG.
@ my guy said Samsung never last more than 5 years, so good luck. We tried a range and fridge. They both died at the end of year 5 also. Hopefully you have better luck!
@@thehometownhomestead I will be moving out of this place within the next year and the appliances will be sold in place. Now, with all the shortages behind us for the most part, I can be far more selective. Many years ago I was in a rented townhouse that had a complete suite of higher-end Samsung appliances. One by one they "went bang". I know better; I just had to take what was on offer at the time.
OMG, we are 8 months in, getting this same fault code…and the runaround from GE, who told me they didn’t know what it was…as did their service tech, who also told me he couldn’t move the unit to service it. Class Action lawsuit anyone?
@@RandomDudeFromSomewhere our repair guy was helpful, but for the fact that it wouldn’t even wash when he left. They definitely know what the code is, because you can Google it. 😆 Maybe your guy isn’t strong enough to move it? That thing is a beast. Tell them to send help and fix the dang thing!
@@thehometownhomestead he told me GE wouldn’t pay for another person to come help move it. I contacted GE directly and they told me the same thing. But I will never, ever, purchase another GE product.

Working on the class action. Would you be interested in providing more information?
Then it will happen again. It gets more frequent. I’d record it and complain to GE if they don’t fix it. It’s reaching a crazy temp to throw that error,
Perhaps it’d be cool to have a traditional set plus the combo. Awesome to throw some underwear and work shirts in and have them done on your way to work next day. And use the traditional set for most washing?

We are in this horrible place. The good news, my husband is an attorney and we are currently doing the research for class action. Anyone interested, please reply here as it will help us continue to move the case forward.
I would be open to a suit. Broke down 4 months after we purchased it and it took over 3 months to get parts. Repairman left today and told us "I'll be back because there is a real design issue"
You are correct! That said, my mother-in-law is a lifesaver and lives 4 minutes away. She took care of it for us, so we didn't have to use a laundromat. Thanks for watching!
First of all I just can't justify two hours for one load. The front loading washers at the laundromat I go to are excellent at cleaning and only take 22 minutes. The dryers take 30 to 40 minutes to thoroughly dry even large loads. And that is entirely too much work and effort in maintaining the machine. Based upon your review and the problems you and others describe, GE needs to discontinue this product. Like I said, I can't justify two hours to do one load when I might need something right away, so to speak.
This issue has been well documented for over six months some simple weatherstripping, correct it plus it never hurts to shop vac the coil every so often just like you’re supposed to do with your refrigerator that nobody ever doesIMHO And I did reach out to GE customer service and detailed this issue as well as the quick field fix lol that was three months ago never heard anything back but they may be designing a new filter Plus, you should be cleaning the lint filter after every cycle common sense says just like you would do after every cycle on your dryer In my opinion, GE never should’ve said to only clean every five cycles that was probably done as a marketing convenience factor ploy. Unfortunately, also sounds like you were the victim of a repair person that was not very bright. They should not have left the unit down and out. They should’ve left it to where you could still continue to wash only so that is on them.
While I do appreciate that you can fix some of the issues with weatherstripping, I still maintain that the machine should be able to be used as the manufacturer states without the unit overheating multiple times per cycle and experiencing a “critical” failure.
It's ALWAYS A BIG mistake to try and combine too many features in one machine. You should buy the simplest washer and dryer that you can. The more features you put into a machine, the more things there are to break.
About waiting for the part to come in... I have a story: In 2005 I bought a duet front load washer... on year 2 (I think 2007 ish) the control board died... at first they weren't sure if it was the door lock or the control board...So scheduled a call... first tech came out... said it was F-DL door lock...ordered a door latch... scheduled an appt to come back... came back, replaced that... few days later... same error... he came back again and said it was the control board... ordered that... scheduled another visit...installed that...after that I plugged my FL washer into a surge protector... and now it's 2024 and would you believe I still have that washer and there have been no issues since?? The point is.. when you call a tech to fix your washer... often it won't be fixed that day... they'll have to order something then come back. Such a pain.
Is it the same error code that I had? Have you cleaned the bottom filter lately? Even though it’s only 3 months old, the manual needs to be updated to clean it at least monthly. That thing gets clogged and then the clothes won’t dry.
You should have known a single machine is not going to hold up for a family of seven not only that you're sticking a brush inside hitting the coils who knows if they're all bent now
They were not bent at all. Would you have left the wet caked on lint as an alternative to cleaning it off? If it can’t hold up to 1-2 loads a day, then it shouldn’t be on the market.
@@thehometownhomestead , It wasn’t our choice, we pushed for GE to give us a conventional washer and dryer but they refused. They did extend the warranty for two years
Do yourself a favor, find a pre 1996 Maytag top load washer, dryers don't matter as much as they have less parts that fail. Old Maytags are still around Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, etc. They will run forever, wash clothes clean with actual water, and have very little if any problems. My 1987 Maytag is proof. I bought it used as a matching set for $100, 10 years ago, and I have had made one repair myself in that span. New and trendy is not better than old and reliable!
This is true, I’ve wore out some newer brands, and didn’t like things like auto sensing water fill, because it didn’t put enough water in. I bought a house with old Maytag washer and dryer in it. I’m keeping them forever. I have a friend who repairs washer and dryers and sells speed queen. He was very excited to find a 1980s Maytag washer and dryer that were never used. That’s what he has in his house.
Simple = more likely reliable LONG term. Complex = more likely to malfunction short and long term, if you're lucky enough to make it to long term at all. Applies to everything mechanical. Simple as that.
I actually have a series of videos on this machine showing and discussing my cleaning routine. It was above and beyond what the company stated was necessary. This is a design flaw, not a lack of care.
Speed queen, especially the TR7 which you have suck. Reliability, quality of cleaning, everything. Get something else, my friends have owned the TR7 and TC5 which is nothing but board issues.
So far we have had zero maintenance issues, clean clothes, and it’s been a major improvement over both our GE, as well as the old Maytag set we had before. I have several friends who’ve had them for years, all with rave reviews. Time will tell, but I have high hopes that we remain happy customers for the next decade or more!
Combo were invented in Europe in the 60/70 and ghey never worked. Wht in ghe hell would you buy a GE combo. This is the first time ge made a combo, and further morr ge was bought by haier a cheap chinese company that makes disposable appliances Especially for a family of 7 what were you thinking
My warranty expired 4 months after the 1year warranty and it stopped drying and washing and spinning, so what it means that after a year GE will not cover the service fee or the cost of labor. GE’s limited 10 year warranty will cover certain parts.
Water and electricity do no mix so I have a hard time thinking this is a good thing. A washer is one thing a dryer on a larger circuit, no thanks. Good luck to you
My Speed Queen set was the same price as the GE at the time of purchase, when adding the extended warranty for the GE. Anyone looking at the all in one can afford one of the 3 levels of the Speed Queen offerings, specifically because you rarely NEED to replace both pieces at the same time.
Those speed queens she has a very similar to the old Whirlpools that they built for decades. Used the same parts the whole time. And the parts are all still available and cheap. Anyone who wants to go back to this old tech, should just grab a set from the 90's for a couple hundred bucks and be done.
That's because it's not a dryer, it's just an overpriced washing machine that is sold as a washer dryer combo. We don't currently have the technology to make a washer dryer combo, unless you count a robotic arm that will load clothing from your washer to your dryer for you.
Good luck!
where is this video?
@@MissJeneChaos “Home Guy Customer Service” channel here on UA-cam. He shows step by step and tells the exact product to buy in Amazon
Ours have been working flawlessly for now I will keep all updated
Thanks for the excellent content as usual !
How long before the class action is filed…??????what a joke…
@@glennlittledale4191 clean the bottom filter monthly and use the brushes from the start and you’ll be better off than we were!

I am very scent sensitive, but didn’t notice this. Perhaps it was your machine, although I am in no way recommending it at this point. 🫣

We cleaned the filter multiple times, ordered more lint filters, and replaced them with a new filter. Same error code 353

You need to purchase the top filter modification kit or do watch the video and do it yourself. The problem with the GE all-in-one compared to LG and Samsung is that it doesn't have a self-clean mode that rinses the coils on the heat pump and when the lint gets pass the filters and settles on the coils it causes the unit to fail.

thank you so much, I was so close to purchasing this washer. happy I didn't.
I heard SQ is the best in US, but nothing can compare to the front load washing machine washing results. Yes theres is room for more improvement for sure. But the results are better in terms of washing then top loads. There is tons of proof of that. Congrats on the new units
I have used both front & top load washers, top load washers always wash better in my experience.
I bought one washer and one dryer in my lifetime and they still work to this day and never had any repairs but only maintenance. Reliability is more important than energy efficiency as there is no cost effectiveness with energy savings when repair costs takes away the benefit. I don’t regret the purchase, but I’m grateful to have my Speed Queen set now.
Even with the GE, I often had to run their shirts through a 2nd time with stain remover to get them clean.
I was aware of the difference in the TC and TR, but thought this one would be best for us. I’ll keep you posted if a problem should arise, but so far so good!

The company took it back in trade for the new one. We’re happy with what we have now, and still thankful that we tried it out!
@@ssrrocks22 I agree. I think they’ll be awesome in 10 years.
The great news is, we’re on solar!
It’s SUCH an awesome idea… it’s just not there yet. I’d escalate and ask for a refund.
Sorry for your bad luck!
We are currently exploring this option and gathering information needed to start discovery. Would you like to provide more information?
I have had mine 2 months and already sucks
How did pump fail? What error code did you get?
Oh no! We got one a few months ago based on some of these UA-cam reviews. Crossing my fingers that this is not an issue across the board.
Crossing my fingers for you! It’s definitely a fabulous idea, and I hope they work out for others better than they did for us.
The repair man is not talking about you cleaning out the Bellow, he means you cleaning out the evaporator where you remove the filter. It’s referring to the refrigeration system that runs this. You basically have a window unit sitting on top of a washing machine.
I personally own speed queens
Oh, that’s horrible. You bought the least reliable speed queen possible
You really gotta stop chasing features and go with basic stuff
Those speed queens are horrible compared to just the basic models
I bet your dryer already dries like crap
@thehometownhomestead well you definitely got the most reliable.
There's nothing like a Speed Queen, I wouldn't take nothing else for mine.
i have both speed queen and ge combo. My all in one is in my house and the speed queen is in my garage.
The wait wouldn’t have bothered me if I had the Speed Queen backup!
Maybe your guy isn’t strong enough to move it? That thing is a beast. Tell them to send help and fix the dang thing!
@@thehometownhomestead he told me GE wouldn’t pay for another person to come help move it. I contacted GE directly and they told me the same thing. My wife and I are going to find a new, stackable set and get rid of this one. I doubt I’ll be able to get any sort of refund like you did, but will try. But I will never, ever, purchase another GE product.
Working on the class action. Would you be interested in providing more information?
We are having the same issues.
Had first repair tech out. Even tho we showed him a picture of error 353, he said he couldnt find anything wrong.
✋🏼 3 months old, ours stopped working.
I’m worried mine is starting to have issues
I would be open to a suit. Broke down 4 months after we purchased it and it took over 3 months to get parts. Repairman left today and told us "I'll be back because there is a real design issue"
That sucks that your washer/dryer quit in you. No mom wants to go sit at a laundromat to do laundry ever.
You are correct! That said, my mother-in-law is a lifesaver and lives 4 minutes away. She took care of it for us, so we didn't have to use a laundromat.
Thanks for watching!
@@thehometownhomestead I'm happy for you that you didn't need to go to the laundromat. Thankful for family.
Every single day!
Happy to see you were able to get good customer service in swapping out your washer/dryer!
My rule of thumb: NEVER buy the first iteration of a new product!
Well, with the known longevity of the Speed Queens, it was our only shot before we’re 70, and empty nesters. 😆
This issue has been well documented for over six months some simple weatherstripping, correct it plus it never hurts to shop vac
the coil every so often just like you’re supposed to do with your refrigerator that nobody ever doesIMHO
And I did reach out to GE customer service and detailed this issue as well as the quick field fix lol that was three months ago never heard anything back but they may be designing a new filter
Plus, you should be cleaning the lint filter after every cycle common sense says just like you would do after every cycle on your dryer
In my opinion, GE never should’ve said to only clean every five cycles that was probably done as a marketing convenience factor ploy.
Oh I had GE wash machine Bad News Will not have a GE washing machine again. Bad News 😮😮😮
Yes, I agree! I simply couldn’t wait 6 plus weeks!
Thanks for watching!
This unit is absolutely junk 3 months old, hasn’t worked right since we got it. Now it has error code and will not dry
Our unit broke at 12 months, they were unable to repair the unit. GE is replacing it with a new unit
I’m glad you were able to get a new one!
For dryers just get the most basic one with an analog mechanical timer.
My biggest nightmare! I regret purchasing this machine.
Clean your stuff. Maintenance is needed. Looks like you have a lot of junk in there. I never had as much junk in my washer in a full year time.
This is the first time ge made a combo, and further morr ge was bought by haier a cheap chinese company that makes disposable appliances
Especially for a family of 7 what were you thinking
Why would I buy it? To test out something new. Why would you take the time to type out such a rude response?
Do you have dogs?
@@AnotherScreenname we do not.
My warranty expired 4 months after the 1year warranty and it stopped drying and washing and spinning, so what it means that after a year GE will not cover the service fee or the cost of labor. GE’s limited 10 year warranty will cover certain parts.
This is why I decided to swap to another brand. I didn’t want to risk if after a few friends had also had issues.
I’m sorry you’re stuck.
A household of 7 people is not an average. All consumer goods are developed for the average. You need a more industrial machine.
@@ADOENDRA we run about 1 load per day. Our previous set lasted 14 years. If this one can’t last 9 months, they need to do better.
@@thehometownhomestead Thanks, yes they have to do better. Problem is, they don't design products like they used to be.
Water and electricity do no mix so I have a hard time thinking this is a good thing. A washer is one thing a dryer on a larger circuit, no thanks. Good luck to you
What? Everybody has done this for 50 years. Or more.
this unit actually connects to a regular outlet 15A 120v
This machine uses a heat pump for the drying function.
This technology appears not be perfected yet.
Easy fix. See the small mods people are doing tonthe lint filter. Make sure you add foam or electric tape around it
Sorry GE, I'm not buying your junk appliances!
This nonsensical evap dryers are a mess. Overpriced, Over-complicated, JUNK!!! Just buy a standard washer and dryer. And save yourself the headache.
yikes 😰
Speed Queen is extremely expensive, so that's not an option for most people.
GE is stupid crap! Speed Queen is the indie rock of washers and dryers.
I have to say, I have been super impressed so far.
Thanks for watching!
Yeah, maybe old Indie rockers who think they can get $100 for the cheap seats.
What a piece of crap device
Expensive Boat Anchor was the affectionate term around here for a time. 😆
@@thehometownhomestead GE is stupid crap!
That's because it's not a dryer, it's just an overpriced washing machine that is sold as a washer dryer combo. We don't currently have the technology to make a washer dryer combo, unless you count a robotic arm that will load clothing from your washer to your dryer for you.
It is a very good one; I'll keep you all posted if goes wrong...
