The manual states that area in front of the condenser needs to be cleared every 10 loads and provides clear instructions and pictures. My advice, leave that plastic grill off and do it every 4-5 loads (I have pets). Use a silicone dog toothbrush and like you show, the lint will come off in a single piece. Only takes a minute. I'm going on 10 months with my unit. It still performs as new. Monthly, I will do a tub clean, clean the filter with soap and water like you show, wipe the lint from the gasket, and clear the drain pump filter. Takes a total of about 10 minutes. That is all the more maintenance that is required to enjoy the convenience and significant energy savings this machine offers. Pro tip, do loads at night with the after care setting on. After the 3-4 hour cycle, it will get another 4-5 hours of spinning occasionally as the load cools. This helps significantly with wrinkles. If the wrinkles persist, bring your final spin speed down until it stops being a problem.
Thanks for the feedback! I'll try all of these suggestions out!
I don't have this but if I did, I would keep a small bagged vacuum (apart from your regular vacuum) in the laundry room and use that to keep the washer/dryer clean (which is what I do now) Lint flies everywhere unless you vacuum it...and I think it can clean the lint area much better than doing it by hand...My grandma used to do this so I do it as well... It takes me 2 years or more to even fill one bag...and if it's a small vacuum it doesn't take up a lot of space... something like a Eureka mighty mite... not a bagless
I've had mine for 8 months and its been great! I don't have any pets so that's not an issue. I clean the removable lint filter after each load. I removed the grill screws and clean the condenser coils with a soft nylon brush each week. Never seen any huge build up of lint. If you clean it often, you should not have any issues.
Nice! Glad you're enjoying yours. If I didn't have pets I would recommend it no question!
I have a GE all-in-one and have used the rubber dryer balls to help with the wrinkles. They go through the wash cycle ok snd and they have worked well with the wrinkles.
@@BoulevardHome The pet hair wouldn't be an issue if you either stopped using dryer sheets, or took the time to wash the wax out of the lint screen every load. Dryer sheets are an existential threat to all dryers with fine mesh screens like this, it's not just combo units.
I have pets and have this machine...and I just clean the lint filter, every time, and wipe the filter off with a damp microfiber cloth every few loads. If there's a ton of lint in the drum bellows, I vacuum it out before I remove the clothes.
I use a toothbrush to get the hair off of the coils every 10 loads. I run the tub clean every 30 loads, and clean the drain trap out before and after that, and vacuum and fully wipe out the door bellows before and after.
Definitely high maintenance, but it is a solution to my not having a dryer plug! And it's sooooo crazy cheap to operate.
I also don't get wrinkled clothes. But I don't cram it full...and I don't use dryer sheets or fabric softeners unless it's the Tide with Downy built in. The machine leaves the clothes so soft anyway dryer sheets and rinse cycle fabric softeners just leave a slimy film on my clothes and make them feel just ick.
Once the lint has been clean off the fins then drying works better and there is essentially no lint/dog hair on the gasket-seeing gasket gunk means it is past time to clean the condenser fins
This has been a common issue on many traditional dryers (like Electrolux) forever. If the dryer has a fine mesh screen like this, the wax from dryer sheets will clog it up in no time and then all the airflow, which is carrying lint and hair, goes around the screen rather than through it. Service techs should ALWAYS advise customers with fine mesh screens to not use dryer sheets. I'm disappointed that Blake didn't make this more clear in his review. I have a similar machine, I don't use dryer sheets, it has been working flawlessly.
The owner's manual specifically calls out dryer sheet residue as problematic:
"Proper airflow is critical to the efficient operation of clothes dryers. A lint filter which is full of lint or
clogged with fabric softener sheet residue can reduce the airflow to the point that the time required
to dry clothing will be greatly increased."
One issue I didn't hear addressed is that it will take longer to do multiple loads. With two machines, one load can be washing while another is drying. If you're a person who does all their laundry on one day, then it will take considerably longer to do multiple loads.
I've had mine for 4 months, have a wire hair pet.
For issue #2, wrinkly clothes, use the stay fresh option and it will tumble a few times heatlessly every few minutes for a few hours to keep the laundry fluffed.
Overall, I love the convenience and agree with a lot of your review. A lot of great positives!
That lint management though.
Every cycle: clear lint filter and wipe down the entire huge gasket. Get behind the lint filter manifold and semi-grill where honestly more lint accumulates than in the actual lint filter
Every 5-10 cycles: the pre-pump hair trap needs clenaing. We have long hair and it REALLY sucks when you get an error message saying it can't pump out and takes 1/2 gallon or more of draining.
Every 10-15 loads: remove the screws and grill and clean the consenser fins.
It's a LOT of maintenance just for lint, where much of the appeal is to SAVE time.
I love the ThinQ options. It's great to be able to kick it on remote lock and start other cycles from my phone.
@3:42 Why are people still using dryer sheets/fabric conditioners? We now know enough about them to know they generally aren’t contributing what they claim to clothes and they’re hell on washer and dryers with all the things they leave behind, especially in the dryer filter.
It makes my clothes smell good. The only thing I see in the filter is lint.
Its terrible for youre skin @chex313
@chex313 just use wool balls and drop your favorite essential oils onto it
@@chex313 Liquid softener will achieve the same results.
I use dye-free, scent-free dryer sheets to remove static cling from my clothes
I think the problem with the all-in-one LG or indeed any all in one is the fact that dryers traditionally have the larger capacity than washers for a reason.
That reason is so when the clothes tumble and dry they can expand and with the all-in-ones that's not really possible which I believe is why you're seeing the extreme wrinkling.
I have an LG washer that is a few years old and just recently purchased the new LG heat pump dryer that came out this year and I do not have any problems with sprinkling whatsoever.
I believe that is because when I do a standard full load, note not overload, then put that in the large capacity heat pump dryer it's able to handle it just fine.
Not only do I not see any significant amount of wrinkling I actually see less than I did was my old electric dryer.
I'm not sure why but I suspect it's because of the gentler heat and how the dryer pulls the moisture out of the clothes.
The one thing that all heat pump units share including the all in one combo units, is that heat pump dryers require more maintenance.
I am fairly methodical about maintenance on my LG washer which I run only powder detergent and no fabric softener in and do monthly cleanings.
The new heat pump dryer requires cleaning the lint filter every time you use it and most people are not very good about that.
Plus the fact it has two lint filters and a condenser cleaning cycle that's probably a bit much for most average people to deal with.
It doesn't bother me at all but I could see where it could be a failure point.
Thank you for doing a stress test for this unit. I really appreciate seeing how it handled that.
Have you received the updated screen that can insert in front of the coils? I have seen someone installing the new screen/filter but have not seen how it performs.
Thanks again! I really appreciate your videos!
Okay so the moral of the story is don't have dogs that shed. Seriously, that drain filter at the end...I have had several LG washers, an Indesit, and now have a Gorenje. None have EVER had that much in the drain filter. Never ever. Is dog bedding being put in this machine without vacuuming first? Hope you will review the Samsung soon.
This combo unit has to deal with most all the lint from your wash and dry cycle. It will fill up quicker than wash only machine, and it is basically required to check monthly on this machine.
combo units wash the debris away because heat is not used
Great video. Thanks 🙏. I’ve bounced back and forth from LG and Samsung with washer/dryer combos in the last few years. The hair left you mentioned and lint from towels I also notice is an issue, you need to manually clean it out then do a tub clean that also goes for over an hour. They do take a long time for a full wash/dry cycle hey. One of the huge issues I’ve had is with the quality of the hoses. I have had leaks with a few machines because hoses just perish. I had a separate Hoover washer and dryer machines many years ago that lasted me almost 30 years. These things are awesome and I’d not have anything else now, but jeez they’re not made to last nowadays.
Added a cut to fit mesh thin A/C filter after lint filter and no lint buildup on condenser coil in over two months. Amazed at how much the lint filter was NOT catching.
before or after the plastic grill?
Before
@@JDmann807 you said after originally!
After lint filter before plastic grill.
So, the Samsung all-in-one washer/dryer before every cycle automatically rinses off the condenser with water-jets. Does the LG not do this?
It does, at least towards the end of the dry cycle, but it isn't quite enough. After about 6 months perhaps 30% of the metal fins right after the filter box is covered/blocked by lint. This reduces the drying effectiveness until I open it and clean the fins
@ZackKolev
After this I watched more videos and actually found a guy comparing the Samsung and LG. He said the cleaning cycle on the Samsung is a lot more effective. He ran 30 loads of laundry through the Samsung and took it apart and the fins on the condenser were super clean still. I'm fixing to order the Samsung most likely.
@@1018VideoCan you link the comparison?
@@Itsuo808
It won't let me post a link for some reason.
You can't put links, but you can mention the title of the video.
I think solution to the wrinkly clothing is just have it set to wash mode first. After remove items and put them back in not all tangled up.
I know, it defeats the washer- dryer combo thing. But I'm getting it to save space 😊
So when you put in a dryer sheet that is the time to pull out all the clothes you do not want to dry. (Things that should air dry)
I really want one of these, but I don’t understand why they didn’t either make the filters better or make them easier to service. For now it seems like maybe it’s best to wait for generation 2.
Heard using fabric softener gums up your washer eventually
Now swap it out with a Bosch 500 or 800 series. No one online has the 800 series reviewed yet.
Apparently their heat pump dryers self-clean the condenser using the captured water... but does it really?
Also it has an adapter that converts a standard dryer's 240 outlet into two 6-15's power both the washer and dryer - have you used them or had any issues?
This LG WM6998 also cleans the condenser with (fresh) water, and it seems the main thing that causes lint to not get rinsed off is ill-fitting rubber lip seals on the inlet of the screen, which lets more lint past that it's designed for.
Don’t think you’ll find away around the wrinkles, before I throw my clothes into the dryer I shake them out so like both sides of a tee shirt aren’t stuck together,it seems to work but impossible with that setup
removable dryer filter: VACUUM IT AFTER EVERY USE
Thanks for a great video. Would love to see a similar review of the GE Profile All in One which I have run for about a year. I love the machine for the same reasons. The GE has a sponge packed filter which can be washed separately, so Wonder if that makes a difference. Also the condenser coils are more visible and can be cleaned with a brush, though I don't see much lint. The microban gaskets are also wonderful to prevent mold buildup which I found in my previous Kenmore washer. One recommendation I would have is to stop using fabric softener and dryer sheets. Those may be appealing but do more damage to clothes and the machine (most likely part of what clogs up the lint filter). Thank you for a great review!
My smaller LG heat pump dryer stopped drying after 3 years. I see eurpean models all have easy access doors to the condenser. Mine is in the back bottom. Id have to take the entire thing apart to fix
Does it fully dry the clothes and how long does the full wash and dry cycle take
Also, beware of breaking the 2 tabs at the back of the filter assembly..they trip the sensor. if they break the sensor thinks the filter assembly is not installed and will not continue to a was cycle.
I don't know how it's called but they sell 2 kinds of balls, one is smaller, - for the lack of a better word - velcro-like hair&lint balls that really helps the washer to incorporate the hair and lint into the rinse water, so it works for a long time, they are probably very abundant and cheap.
For fabrics that would stick to that velcro-like balls, they sell a sponge-like ones, that will not stick to fabrics at all, I use them for my bedding as the velcro-like balls stick to the mattress protector!
BUT this won't help the drain trap, it maybe would only make it more clogged! WOW that is full.
SInce the upload of the video, do you cleaned the drain pump again? If you did, how was it?
Excuses for my english. :)
Was there any attempt to use a pet hair removal brush for clothing before washing?
My sister has a Samsung 2in1, and I've got the LG 2in1. She has cats. I don't have a pet. So, first off, while I do notice lint build-up, I obviously don't have a pet hair problem, which makes the issue of the video a lot more manageable, albeit still a problem. My sister had similar issues as the video because of her cats; she resorted to tape-rolling her clothes before putting them in the washer, which is a bit of a hassle, but she says it makes the lint and hair problem much easier to deal with. I clean mine once a month or so. (edit: I actually don't know what her state is inside her washer, our discussion was more about building up near the door and filter area.)
I could be mistaken but LG is advising to use hot water to clean the filter , No Brushing
After 3 months my lint is not ever in the lint basket. It all settles in the rubber gasket on the door. Any one have n answer?
LG recommends clean filter and filter housing after every 10 loads
I've had one for 15 years. It just flat works. I do "tub cleans" after every month. Clean trap and drain tank. Runs fine. Shooting for 25 years. That's circles of the sun. Long time.
Regular maintenance is key. It was avoided here to stress test the machine but I will be doing exactly what you're doing from here on out.
@@BoulevardHome Did you mention this very important fact in the video - that you did not do the required regular maintenance on purpose?
I just got mine I just did my thick blanket and it’s taking hours now and now it’s saying 3 hours and 35 mins to dry
I had a Miele condenser dryer and the entire condenser is able to be pulled out and rinsed clean. Then you let it air-dry and slip it right back. They need to do that with these machines. The unit would also be more efficient running on 220V. My Miele washer was also 220V and it rocked. Very powerful heated cycles when needed.
It's more difficult for heat pump systems considering the entire system is pressurized with refrigerant.
Its OK! I have to clean it much more then a regular washer dryer. I just go Solar and i still have a electric bill, I am thinking that this washer/dryer is the culprit. May go back to a gas washer and dryer because gas is so much cheaper in Cali then electric. Wonder if Costco will take it back!
Order a separate washer and dryer (with a heat pump) from LG. Same great features
Holy moly, those condenser fins look WAY worse than mine did after 7 months and probably 3x the laundry (reservoir ready for its 3rd fill soon)... I've kept the plastic guard off so I can peek in and see the condition but haven't seen any buildup of lint at all... I wonder if the water hardness (since it uses supply water to rinse the coil) could be a factor?
Keeping the plastic guard off is an interesting idea. Might have to try that!
Having owned three of the combo washer/dryers, the LG has been one of the nicer units because its very quiet, and trouble free. The others were made by Equator and GE. I have no pets, so fur or lint isn't an issue. Using only non-animal bi-product detergent and softener is important. Liquid softeners prevent wrinkling. Tallow, lanolin, and animal by products used in most products leave behind mold growing residue, and must be avoided.
Can anyone tell me if yours buzzes during the dry cycle?
With the lint on the fins and the air inlet, seems that a lack of maintenance could contribute to these issues. I have had mine for 4 months and perform the regular filter and fin cleaning regularly and do not have these issues.
Yes this is a great point. The fins and the drain trap had not been cleaned or checked the entire 6 first months of usage. But it represents what a lack of maintenance will do.
Funny they all seems to have some perfectible filter design.
Out of the 3 most popular combos (GE, Samsung and this LG), which one you recommand?
The Samsung actually has a clean mode that washes the condenser coils with water fwiw.
@@bibidi2568LG also has the condenser coil cleaner. It is done automatically towards the end of the drying cycle.
@@MrGooch2706 based on other tear down videos the samsung one does a much better job it seems
LG is the most reliable of the three.
What can be the reason as to why they don't sell this combo unit model in Europe? They seem to produce all the ones sold in Europe in Poland. Can it be a worse factory or something? I can't understand it, it seems impossible to get hold of a decent combo unit regardless of brand over here.
LG just started selling a few models with that circular knob but they're just some standard front loads and as far as I know, the models in the US has had them for a long while. Seems like everything is like 5 years behind here. I would love to have this one.
One reason why the LG washer/dryer is quieter and more stable than conventional separate washers and dryers is its weight. We considered it, instead bought a compact Miele Heat Pump Dryer (operates on 120V) and compact Miele washer. These small appliances weigh more than full size appliances, smooth, balanced and quiet with a 10yr parts & labor warranty. Unlike this LG, you can dry a load of clothes while you wash another.
Umm if you buy LG separates, you can dry while you wash another too. Why are you comparing an all-in-one LG with Miele separates?
I've had mine 2 months. It no longer dries. Can't figure it out. Just wet clothes everytime now.
How much data about your underwear stains has it uploaded to Samsung's cloud?
The most efficient washer and dryer are the kind that lasts you 20 plus years.
I wonder if you can ask LG to extend the spray rinse at the end instead of them ONLY being 5 seconds long....and if they could do an update or something... Earlier LG's had a much longer spray rinse that rinsed the HELL out of your clothes....but now they've ruined it only being 5 seconds long...
I’ve had this unit for about 8 months. We’ve linked the fabric softener and soap dispenser as one and the machine will not pull detergent from the softener dispenser. Anyone having this issue?
Interesting. I haven't linked ours yet so i will try it and see. If you haven't already linked it to the app and installed a software update that could potentially fix it. Or just unplugging the unit and resetting it making sure to check the setting is still enabled once you turn it back on.
I am so glad I didn't fall for all the bells and whistles. I almost got one but because of all the different bad reviews of these all in one machines, I didn't. These machines have a long way to go before they are perfected
About 10 minutes a month of extra maintenance is required on this machine. Yes, the filtering could be better and will be improved some day. But for the convenience and significant energy savings, it's still a solid offering.
If there was that much lint after 6 months, just imagine after a year, or two! Possible fire hazzard?
It just goes to show how much more maintenance these units require for sure.
Dryer sheets and fabric softener are unnecessary and a pain in the butt with an all-in-one.
I've had an LG all in one for over 5 years, and I have a German shepherd.
I use Fur Zapper little rubber things that stay in the washer and they do the same thing as fabric softener and dryer sheets, they rub the fur off the clothes during the cycle and then it goes down the drain. I leave the door open when I do a wash-only cycle and I check the drain pump filter quarterly and that's it for maintenance.
For towels and sheets, I chuck in a bit of vinegar in the softener dispenser. Easy peasy.
30 loads in 6 months? 1 load every twelve days? That's it?
We do still have our original set as well. There's also only 2 of us. 5 Times per month is about on par for us excluding washing our bedding. We sometimes use the original units for that.
@@BoulevardHome ok
Stay away from dryer sheets and fabric softener; they just coat your clothes and machines with gunk over time.
Brasil!!
Unfortunately it wouldn't apply in this scenario, but before I wash my dogs blankets, bed etc... I put that stuff in my dryer first and that seems to remove 90% of the dog hair into the lint trap since you're not soaking the dog hair first. Then I wash the dog stuff.
We still have our old dryer so we could try this. Any time we used to do laundry with our old set there would always be a full blanket of lint and dog hair in the lint catcher. It just doesn't seem to make it through to that point with this machine though.
So no pets it works great
LG released a new part to filter the condenser. ua-cam.com/video/wLAUQklHbvM/v-deo.htmlsi=lCiO2jKvzJ1_OQdk
Don't evec put a dryer sheet when you dry your clothes. That's one of the biggest scam ever. At best, use liquid softener when washing.
It totally stinks. If you have pets I am cleaning out the lint trap and vent trap. Every two weeks.
6 months? thats nothing.. talk about it in 10 years at a minimum
30 loads in 6 months? And ALL that hair? I call BS. I’ve had mine for 7 months and have 2 heavy shedding dogs. I clean the filter after every wash and I’ve cleaned the coils and drain trap twice and NOTHING like the gunk this video shows. The owner should vacuum more often which will lessen pet hair from making its way into the washer.
I think our issue is we never checked or cleaned the drain trap or the coils in those first six months. This was partially done on purpose to see what the results would be. And yes just over 30 loads is all we had done as there are only 2 of us and we still have our old set as well that may get used from time to time. I can't argue with you on the vacuuming though we (and the washer) could definitely benefit from doing that more frequently. But I do think it provides a good "stress" test for the purposes of these types of videos.
All in one's are not ready for prime time
Man having to stop the cycle to put in a dryer sheet kinda ruins all potential conscience factors this thing could have.
Stop using dryer sheets. Bad thing for a dryer.
Shake off the pet hair from your clothes before putting into the wash.
Terrible unit, just like almost everything from LG... :)
horrible design. full of hair and have to tear it down to clean it. junk that unit and get a real set of machines.
Wow gross .. no thanks
