    Even though it wasn't a v6, but the 2.0 turbo was one hell of a motor. Shame they didnt keep it. Could have added the hybrid system to that engine.

I have a 2020 Accord Hybrid and don't mind the buttons, but more importantly, push buttons don't get in the way of drinks in the cupholders or access to the USB chargers like the stick shifter does. So glad I found this one though- it's not the 2L motor but it's a lot of fun with the manual. And it's surprisingly efficient-- I get 39+ mpg on road trips. I couldn't disagree more with your assessment of the 11th gen regarding its appearance. The 10th gen, in my opinion, is much shaper looking. Also, the interior is a step back as well. Taking away the faux wood and replacing it with the honeycomb cheapens the look and makes it less classy. I'm sure, though, that the tech in the 11th gen will be an improvement over the 10th, which is abysmal. And don't get me started on automakers' insistence on going full electric. Hopefully, by then, you'll be able to charge it as fast as you can fill up a car with gas. The transmission mystery is just a marketing thing. I think the tranny classifies as a CVT but in essence, it is a direct drive transmission with a lock-up clutch from what I understand. All the honda hybrids have had this transmission for a while. Basically, the motor is just a generator, not powering the wheels until around 40 so MPH, when the clutch locks up the wheels to the motor. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's how it works.

    It is not a belt driven CVT, but the gas motor still feels decoupled from the transmission because a lot of the time it runs as a serial hybrid- the gas motor is just a generator (and you get instant torque). It also locks into one of two ratios, and at those points feels like a traditional transmission.

  • @gordonn4915
    @gordonn4915 Рік тому +11

    The new hybrid doesn’t have a real transmission. It has an electric counter turning motor so the difference is the drive speed.

  • @mattkroening7964
    @mattkroening7964 Рік тому +5

    The situation with the transmission is exactly the same as it was in your 9th gen accord hybrid you reviewed, FYI. No transmission in a traditional sense. Electric motor is powered by either batteries, gas generator or both, and moves the car under most loads. Only when the car is cruising does it engage a clutch pack to connect the 2.0L directly to the wheeks.

    The push button shifter was one of the best parts of the GEN10 Accord. The only reason to not like it is that you don't want to learn something new, even if it takes maybe driving the car three times to do so. Lazy reviewers convinced drivers that they shouldn't like it, so they don't try, either.
    The stick you love so much doesn't do anything except actuate the same switches that the buttons did. With one exception: the stick has go be in the "P" position for the car to be in park. With the buttons, they can be software controlled. The GEN10 can shift automatically into Park, and release and apply the parking brake automatically.
    So in a typical drive, I need only four button presses:
    1) I press the power button to start the car.
    2) Without looking, I swipe my hand down along the button array. The "R" button is recessed, so this action finds it and presses it. Pressing the accelerator releases the parking brake.
    3) After backing out of my driveway, I press the "D" button which is easy to find by feel, as it has a raised rim.
    4) While the drive is over, I press the power button to shift into Park, apply the parking brake, and turn the car off.
    Three-point (or five, or seven) turns are trivial, since the position of the "R" and "D" buttons allow them to be operated pretty much as a rocker switch.

There is no separate transmission.

A bose audio system and larger infotainment display is nice but the previous generation gauge cluster is better. No pano roof either or 360 camera it’s not a necessity but for that price it’s disappointing not to have it. Honda probably mean "no CVT" in the sense of a component; the effective drive ratios are created by the electric motors' rotational speed and direction.

    There are two direct engine lockups - on that operates at lower speeds and another that operates at higher highway speeds.. I have a Honda Insight, the one lockup will stay engaged until around 82mph - after this the direct link breaks as the engine rpm is too high.. I believe that there are two lockup ratios on this one that will enable it to travel at a faster speed without disengaging - thus giving higher mpgs at higher speeds... The correct "CVT" term for this hybrid engine design is "E-CVT"..

      Even with that new change, my 2020 Honda Accors Hybrid base still gets better MPG than any 2023 trim level Hybrid.

    The old Accord looks way better than the new one. If I was looking for an Accord, I would rush to the dealership right now and get the old one while they are still in stock.

    There is no CVT. Honda uses a two motor / generator system (since 2018). The two motors give a CVT effect, but there is no fully cone system you find in a real mechanical CVT. I had an earlier Accord (non hybrid) with a CVT. I now have the two motor hybrid which feels more like a pure electric car than the CVT Accord ever did.
