- This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2023 Honda Accord hybrid. sedan. The Honda Accord hybrid is now longer by over 2.5” and offers a sleeker design with a broader stance, long hood, clean lines and a flowing fastback roofline. In the rear, the Honda Accord hybrid has distinctive horizontal LED straight-line taillights that accentuate the wider stance.
There are only two trims iof the all-new Honda Accord n Canada and four in the US. The Honda Accord Sport model has black exterior accents including black side mirrors, a black rear spoiler and black 19” wheels. The top Touring Honda Accord model we are driving has gloss black 19” wheels with silver and black exterior accents, this hybrid has a tire repair kit.
The interior of this new 2023 Honda Accord looks a lot like the Civic with the metal mesh spanning the dash covering the air vents to give the Accord a clean and modern look. The new Honda Accord comes standard with some great features like a 10.2” digital driver display, a 12.3” touchscreen, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, an 8-speaker audio system, a power driver’s seat, manual passenger seat, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, fabric upholstery and a moonroof. In the US, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are not standard.
The Honda Accord hybrid has a 2L 4-cylinder with a pair of electric motors matched to an ECVT, a combined 204 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. This a FWD model.
In Canada the Honda Accord Sport model starts at $42,955 CAD and the Touring $46,455 CAD.
In the US, the Honda Accord Sport starts at $31,895 USD, EX-L $33,540 USD, Sport-L $33,875 USD and Touring $37,890 USD.
The fuel economy rating for the Honda Accord Hybrid gets 5.0L/100 km, 46 MPG city and 5.7L/100 km, 41 MPG highway. - Авто та транспорт

I have a sport. I often get around 48-50 mpg driving casually around the city. 43-45 hwy. first hybrid. First accord. I love it.
Honda has gone crazy with its pricing in Canada. If you're going to spend $47k before tax why wouldn't you move up into Lexus/Audi products? Thanks for the review Andrea and Zack!

I said the same thing because some of those Lexus products especially, start around the same price!
The Lexis of the similar size is over $60K, and a nice car. But if you drive the Acura or even the Honda, you’ll see that when you use features, the buttons have a much better layout, and are easier to use. I’m a firm believer that Lexus is an over hyped brand that’s riding in its laurels.

So let me get this right starting price I'll be Honda Accord Sport hybrid is 43000 and the starting price of a Camry Hybrid is 32,000. . I don't know what Honda smoking
The Touring should really have a heated wheel, AWD, and an 8-way power passenger seat. Honda's inconsistency with features across different models is the most the frustrating aspect of the brand for me.
the 10th gen touring was also missing these features and one would think they would have listened to the people and added those for the next gen . Ridiculous.

I totally agree with your assessment of the exterior of the Honda Accord.
I know SUVs are more practical but I still find a sedan more comfortable on a longer trip. Another benefit of a sedan is you can get a better deal on something that isn't as popular. I have always found Ford seats comfortable. Satellite radio is nice if you travel a lot.
I look forward to viewing your latest videos. Your presentation is fantastic. You give all the vital information I need without burying in stats. I can do that deep dive by myself if the excites me.

We have a 2023 Accord Hybrid touring. Our first road trip was from central BC to Osoyoos and back. You need to learn how to drive a hybrid. As with an EV, The secret to mileage is to use the regen as much as you can. We only use Econ mode. Off the lot, with 4 adults, we got 5.4 l/100 between Prince George and Williams Lake. We averaged 5.2 l/100 over 1000 km between Kamloops to Osoyoos, and back. Coming north from Clinton, with a tail wind, we got 4.6 l/100.
I'm guessing Andrea keeps it in SPORT mode all the time, since they claim the engine runs all the time. The difference is that SPORT keeps the battery nearly full all of the time, and will run the engine to do so. This maximizes potential acceleration. ECON keeps it at 30% to 50% so that there is always room for regeneration.

Fuel economy. I have had the '23 Touring now for over a month and have logged about 800 miles. It has averaged 41.5 mpg (I'll let others do the metric conversion). This has been a pretty good mix of highway and city. I have noticed that a strong headwind really drops the mileage. Drove for an hour in the county int a 25 mph wind and only got about 37 mpg, but on the reverse trip, got over 44 mpg. During our city trips, they have been mostly short in weather in the 40F-50F range. During these short trips, the car's engine runs most of the time to get up to temperature, that is why the short city trips mpg is not great. I noticed on trips in town of longer duration, the mileage gets better. Fuel economy aside, this is a solid ride. I agree with Andrea's assertion about the quiet ride. I spent a lot of time in the previous generation and with the 19" wheels and tires, the ride was quite buzzy on the highway.

@@paulhenry913 Most people wii agree that the passenger side definitely needs a height adjustment feature, power or manual. The longest time I've driven so far (drivers side) has been a little over an hour. For me, that has been very comfortable.

Hard to believe a vehicle priced at $33k+ (Hybrid Sport) doesn't have heated seats.
Plus, failure to come close to EPA estimates has been a common theme on many reviews.
Yes! The lower trim EX has heated seats but as you spend more on the sport they remove it. WHY?!?
True, but the EX isn't a hybrid. Probably someone in marketing trying to milk every last dollar from the customer.
I'd rather have the heated seats vs. the sunroof.
At least they've made BSI / CTM (which is one of my favorite safety features) available across most (except LX) Accord trims.
You'd have to go up to Touring to get heated and cooled seats.
@F I For sedans you typically have to buy the top trim to get cooled seats. For the Accord Hybrid heated seats aren't standard unless you purchase the EX-L or above.

I bought a 2022 HAH sport. Amazing driving car, looks much better than the 23 imo. Gas mileage really suffers in winter which was a bummer. Its very addictive to drive though. Thanks for the review, i will stick with my 22.
Re: fuel economy…I bought a “little old grandmother” 2017 CR-V a year ago (1.5 L turbo with 31,000 k. on the clock) Really enjoying it. On a cycle from London to Woodstock, ON (55 km each way) wth city exit/entrance routing, Hwy 401 (100 km/h) & 80 km/h 2-lane King’s highway, NOT in eco mode, my average fuel consumption was down to 6.5 km/100 km (43.46 imp MPG). I am a happy camper😀👍 Still enjoying ALL of your broadcast kids!

I think the problem is low profile rims. I just bought a 2022 EXL in UAE with 17 inch rims. It comes with Michelin Primacy 3ST and it’s quiet and comfortable. I think in the US they just give crappy oversized rims and tyres

Awesome job on the review. I'm driving a 2018 1.5T Touring Accord and really enjoying the semi-luxury feel and sporty drive. 7s per 100km in winter, 6s in summer which is really good and they hybrid doesn't seem to improve on much. I am the target for this new accord but 2 things hold me back, at almost $50k there are many other good options and I am closing the door on getting all black interiors. The Ivory I'm in is bright and cheery and I can't go back to dark and gloomy all black. The Pilot Touring in brown is the ONLY non black interior in Honda's whole line up now. After over 20 years and my family's 6 Hondas I'm sad to say we're moving on from the brand. It saddens me.
I have to agree with you about gloomy black interiors. I'm forever losing things in our Accord because it's so dark. US Honda buyers get optional interiors but not Canadians. That and the lack of full passenger seat adjustment is Honda nickel and diming their Canadian customers.
Unusual, probably super rare as a 2018 Accord Touring with 1.5T instead of a 2.0T.

I live in Eastern Ontario and have owned two AWD vehicles. Also FWD and RWD. To be honest I don't think you need AWD unless you have special circumstances such as unplowed or cottage roads. The first FWD I ever drove was an Austin America in 1969 if you can believe it.
Great video as always! I am so confused by Honda of late. I have had Honda's since 1990 and just can't understand some of the blatant things missing in some of the new models! Like no armrest/cupholders in the HR-V or no heated steering wheel and no SiriusXM on the new Accord? I haven't listened to broadcast radio for many years and definitely won't start now. These things have made me look at other brands (Hello Toyota) for when my current lease ends later in the summer. I can live with a little boring interior styling if the whole package is good, but not without what I believe are must-have features.
You can get SiriusXM on your phone and just play it through Bluetooth in your car! 😂
As a current Honda owner, if Honda continues with this crazy packaging and dull styling, I’m saying hello to Mazda. Mazda imo seems to be channeling the “old Honda” by being a premium dynamic option punching well above their class.

Great review! I’m glad you guys pointed out many of the shortcomings for this car that fly under the radar. Like the lack of height adjustment for the passenger seat. That is such a basic feature and they had to cut it. It makes no sense.

@@kevinbonquyquy1047 my 2008-2012 8th gen EX-L Accord didn’t have passenger height adjustment, even though it had the leather option. Also, only driver’s seat was power adjusted, a cost cutting for the inline 4 engine option vs the v6 at the time
Long time fan, first time commenter. :) Are you sure your test vehicle had factory installed SiriusXM? ...you weren't seeing the SXM logo in CarPlay or Android Auto from the SXM phone App?

I've been shopping compact crossovers and with the CR-V (in the US) you have to step up to the EX-L or Touring to get SiriusXM. Its not offered on the EX or LX. I've noticed some Mazda models offer it only on a few trims as well. I researched a bit online and apparently a number of automakers are not including it anymore. Maybe its part shortages or a way to save a few dollars on their end. Its frustrating because as with you I listen to it all the time in my current vehicle (Subaru Legacy).
While the exterior styling is derivative I like it. I wasn’t crazy about Honda's grille with the large chrome bar. It is understated but I think it will hold up well as it ages. Still not happy with the screen stuck on top of the dashboard.

I bought 1 of these and I'm getting much better numbers for mpgs. Also, the engine does not run all the time. It powers on as needed. Mine's the hybrid sport.
Touring trim should have all the creature comforts. That is why I am looking at the new 2024 Sonata Hybrid Limited in the US.

Cars don't actually cost all that much more, at least in the case of the Accord. $38k in USD is currently $51k in CAD. So a top of the line Accord Touring is cheaper up here.
Cars always are mostly cheaper in Canada, both before and after all taxes, fees and other costs. As another person said, Accord is 38k USD which is a lot more than 46k CAD
I have a 2017 Accord hybrid. After about 3-1/2 years and 85,000 miles, the hybrid battery started to deteriorate. Neither the dealer nor Honda would admit that anything was wrong. The 8-year warranty on the hybrid battery “doesn’t apply to this situation” according to Honda. I’ve lost 20% fuel economy. My advice to anyone: if you’re considering a hybrid, stay away from Honda.
Yes, I had so many problems with my 2017 Touring AWD CRV that Honda just would not fix. It was a horrible experience. I dumped it for the new Lexus NX350h. The CRV was my first and last Honda. Not sure what happened at Honda, but it is not good.
Yes Honda hybrids are week. Go for the Toyota hybrids.

How do you compare this one with pervious generation of Accord, 2.0T.
Wasn’t that better to drive and performance of the engine was better too?
In the case of Accord, the hybrid option has replaced the 2.0T as the more powerful option compared to the 1.5T. it also provides them with better EPA compliance overall for the brand compared to what the 2.0T did. Overall, If you want better economy/efficiency hybrid powertrain best to go for Toyota. However if you want simplified buying options, better driving dynamics, ergonomics and use of interior space Honda is superior.
Get the 2022 Accord Touring with 2.0T. Honda shot itself in the foot in 2023. That is why I bought a fully loaded 2023 Toyota Camry XSE V6. If you are after EPA/ MPG and an Everyday City Driver, get a 2023 Hybrid Toyota Corolla.

Great review, great new accord, but no PHEV, no EV and no 2l 4 turbo. It would be great to have the same as the Clarity!
Some corrected details:
The 2018-2022 Accord Hybrid was rated at 212 HP, but that was based on a different calculation method. Using the current method, it would have been 201 HP. So the 2023 has 3 more HP.
These reviewers do not understand how this hybrid works, and that probably affects their mpg (more below). Using the electric motors only is not what saves gas, it probably uses more. That's because there is no plug - any charge in the battery came from burning gas. Regen braking energy is energy that came from gas and is recovered. But any hybrid will use more change returning to the speed it had before a braking maneuver (or climbing up the hill) than it recovers. It isn't a way to gain efficiency, it just wastes less energy.
And in most situations, this particular hybrid electric vehicle is almost always using *_only_* its electric motors for propulsion. The difference between it and a *_battery_* electric vehicle, is that an engine driven generator provides most of the electricity. Directly, not through the battery as claimed. It also runs its gas engine less often than other hybrids, not more often. And certainly not all the time as they claim at 4:45. [For the hybrid City/Fit, sold in Asia and Europe, Honda estimates that it spends 86% of the time in EV Drive when speeds are under 25 mph. And 54% when under 50 mph]. That only happens if you use SPORT mode all of the time.
It has two motor-generators, but only the larger one ever propels the wheels. Not both, as claimed. But both can be generators, although at different times. It has three modes of operation:
Engine Drive: This is used only above about 40 mph, only when cruising, and only when the state-of-charge in the battery is below some threshold determined by your drive settings. The engine drives the wheels directly (i.e., no gear-changing transmission), but produces more power than the car needs. This is because it is more efficient (over 40%) to over-produce. The generator does nothing, and the motor acts as a generator to charge the battery with the excess power.
EV Drive: The battery drives the motor. This is used when moderate power is required and the state-of-charge is above that threshold. This includes cruising at highway speeds.
Hybrid Drive: This is used at all other times. The engine runs at its absolute best efficiency, if it can. In the 2018-2022 version, this was 40.6% at 2000 rpm and 34 HP. Any complaints drivers had about "droning" was because it always ran at this speed and power. But in Hybrid drive, the engine drives only the generator. That powers the larger motor. Any difference between the power needed by the motor, and the electric power produced, is adjusted by charging or discharging the battery.
The result is that any time the amount of power being produced is meaningful, this is an electric vehicle (Hybrid Drive of EV Drive). "EV" means driven by an electric motor, not where the electricity comes from. Since EVs have all their torque from zero rpm, it is very easy to not recognize that you are doing jackrabbit starts that you would not do in an equivalent, gas-only car. This is inefficient, and is likely the reason for their disappointing mpg. That, and not maintaining a constant speed. In four years, my 2018 Accord Hybrid is averaging about 48 mpg (it is rated at 47), without doing anything special except not jackrabbiting.
The five levels of regen braking are what gets applied when you release the gas pedal. That is, a limited form (but better than other HEVs) of "one-pedal driving." But unlike battery electric vehicles, you also get as much regen braking as is safe when you press the brake pedal. So you don't need to use the paddles, unless you are trying to limit your braking to regen braking only.

My last tank of gas with highway and city driving I got 52 mpg. My lowest was 47 mpg for the tank.
So Andrea, I wasn't quite sure whether you like this car :-) :-) :-) I'm notorious at missing bits, but did you talk about the price difference between a regular Accord vs Hybrid? CR (Zack's favorite reference 🙂) was saying the CR-V hybrid is $4,500 U.S. more than the gas-only model - that's a huge premium, especially compared to (at least some of )Toyota's models.

My '14 Accord engine did not run the gas engine all the time. It was started up as needed, to supply extra juice for the motors when needed, to supply extra charge if the pack goes below a certain level, and/or past ~45mph, the engine will provide direct power to the drivetrain. All of that coordinated by its programming. Are you certain the engine is spinning all the time? That's a major design change if it does.
I have a 2024 accord traded my 2022 sport se for it last week. I dont like the fact they didn’t tilt the radio screen like the 22 back at an angle it sits too far forward and up and down but not a deal breaker. The new Camry w screen in dash looks better.
I wonder if Acura will do a jumped up version of this?
Zack I know how much you loved the Honda Clarity (kidding). The PHEV drivetrain in that should be in this new Accord as another option. I suspect however that the price might have to go up too much for it to be competitive.

Don't stomp on that accelerator when you start from 0 mph, or constantly change speeds on the highway. Also, try to avoid short trips. Otherwise, drive normally. (Lifetime mpg in a 2018 Accord Hybrid: 48 mpg)
I am wondering if Honda squeezed out their projected epa numbers by running it in eco mode? Andrea had mentioned sport mode… as she often does :) If so Honda would be playing a bit of a shell game with their numbers
In my 2014 Honda Civic the Eco does little to my gas mileage, maybe it has improved in newer models.

I test drove this car yesterday the exact same model and my impressions are they strip the fun they strip the soul and personality out of that car. I asked the salesman what self-driving technology it had because I was going to need it if I bought it because I would fall asleep in that car from boredom

12:18 they are forcing in the Google touring trim to download the app onto the 12.3 in display. It’s been disappointing to not have XM on Honda models. I miss it. I’m using the app but SiriusXM is awful on CarPlay and Android auto. And you have to be sure you have good cellular service. They could at least go back to SiriusXM Compatible if they want to remove and let the customer decide to have the antenna piece installed and have that factory radio control.
Another great review. I actually like the new Accord's styling more than its predecessor. It looks more pleasing and coordinated, especially the rear end.
However, as both a Honda fans and uses a Camry hybrid as a company car. I still would choose a Camry hybrid over an equivalent Accord hybrid. THS is just unbeatable. Honda and Hyundai/Kia's systems are just runner ups. Toyota is the gold standard for hybrid technology. That's why they already think its the future 2 decades ago , and they are rightly so.
Hyundai/Kia hybrid tech are decent in crossovers, but excellent in sedans. The Accord is still not capable of beating the Sonata hybrid milage at all, especially on the highway where that car truly shines. Buy the Accord for city driving, Camry, for mix driving, and Sonata for highway driving.

What is the real time MPG for 2023 Accord Hybrid (Any trim) ?
I have the EX-L and get 48 mpg consistently in hwy/city driving, and got 51mpg on a 200 mile trip in mostly city driving. I have been in ECO mode on both these # and have not gone over the speed limit by more than 5mph!

As a Honda owner, it is a frustrating brand to love when it comes to packaging. I have a ‘22 Civic Sport Touring, my favorite car I’ve owned. They have the driving dynamics, reliability, and quality down but packaging and pricing is far from the best. It would be without a doubt the best brand if they fixed those issues.
Cold weather doesn’t stop at the Canadian border, a heated steering would be appreciated by plenty here and a pano roof is found easy in other brands
i have 22 Civic sport and seats are not comfortable, I like look of the car but that's about it 42K miles cant wait to get rid of it only because not comfortable seats

The 2023 Prius felt very claustrophobic to me. I hated the rake of the back window, a deal breaker for me, I wanted to love, but no.😢
I currently have a 2009 that I love, and the 2022 Prius interior felt the same, roomy.
Has Honda published the cost of Google Services subscription after the trial period? It's basically a data plan for the car since you can't use your phone plan for the data.

I prefer sedans for my driving style. Lower CG and less fuel used is a plus for me. Lighter lower vehicles are more agile, I like that.

Another excellent review. I think you nailed it exactly for both good attributes and feature packaging choices that are confusing. While I am not a XM radio fan since I only drive locally, this is a fantastic road trip car/long distance cruiser and XM radio is a big deal for that kind of driving. Heated steering wheel should at least be an option if not a standard feature, even in Texas, we get cooler weather and that is a miss. Otherwise, this appears to be the best Accord ever.
Sat radio in a car or not isn’t a problem when you can have the Free App on your phone and use Bluetooth.
Thanks for the excellent review you two. I agree with almost everything you said as I had ordered mine on Vancouver Island mid February and have yet to receive it. I have road tested one a couple of weeks ago and compared to my 18 Accord 1.5 touring it is a nice improvement. Loved SiriusXM when living in Ontario but does not work well in the heavily wooded area I live in so no loss(even if we get it in Canada). However I will miss the Homelink system not standard in the touring trim. Apparently it's an option in the US so I may splurge 😊. I routinely beat fuel consumption numbers and expect to do better than you two lead foots did with your demo. Keep in mind the first 2-3 tankfulls usually suck wayyy more fuel so I expect improvements. Keep up the great work.
Is the Sirius XM a subscription if so do you get a free trial.

The trend toward large touch screens in all brands raises a few questions: what is it like when driving at nighttime -- is it distracting and can the screen be adjusted for brightness? How easy is it to use the touch screen while wearing gloves? What happens to vehicle operability if the touch screen were to fail?
On my car the touchscreen brightness can be reduced. It’s a Subaru but I’m sure Honda offers the same control.
They make certain gloves to operate touchscreens.
Touchscreen failure would disable it most likely. Newer cars are vulnerable with all the electronics they carry.
If you drive locally this may be for you and the burgundy is the best color but for me 2020 style was the best sporty look with interior room more than a suv and uses regular unleaded is the best Accord made to last over 10 years without having to purchase another battery for thousands of dollars.

4:45 yeah right. Thank you, Mr. Engineer. Toyota's Hybrids while a bit more efficient, they are not refined at all. So right now, considering mpg, quality and refinement, Honda's the best of all worlds.
I was ready to buy one until I sat in the passenger seat with no height adjustment and thought I was sitting in a bathtub. No AWD, no 360 camera or heated wheel. I'll take a Subaru legacy for less money
Accord is just spacious and more leg room in the back and good for picking up people at airports and hotels.

I can confirm in the US, and this vehicle is sadly off my list...No XM and no heated steering wheel..I enjoy my Vegas road trips, and there could be better cell reception in that part of the desert...XM radio is key

For Sirius XM you can use the ap from apple car play or android auto on the head unit so no issue if not built in. 😊

I’m just curious…. You guys always talk about the difference between trim levels in Canada vs trim levels in the US. Is it possible to just come down to Seattle and purchase US trim levels ? (or conversely is it possible for one of us Seattle “moss backs” to saunter across the border and purchase Canadian trim levels ? I’m sure the marketing gurus have their reasons for not offering heated steering wheels in the US (as my icy fingers grip the faux leather steering wheel) but have you ever heard of anyone crossing the border to get what their little heart’s desire ?
BTW… MY first Honda Accord had fold away headlights… how cool were THOSE ? 😎 (oh God…. That will date me 😅)
Dealers agree to not sell to someone from outside the country, part of the dealer agreement but you could but a used version. Some dealer demo's you might be able to buy.
