[My Mom's MAPO TOFU] Delicious Chinese Dish Under 10 Minutes

  • Did you know ... Mapo tofu has been around since the Qing dynasty and believe it or not, the name translates to "pock-faced old woman tofu" because the restaurant that invented it supposedly was ran by a grandma with spots on her face. It got so famous that they ended up renaming the restaurant after her. How crazy is that!
    Ingredients:
    1 block of medium firm tofu
    1 tsp salt for seasoning the boiling water
    Sauce:
    1 tsp minced ginger
    1 - 2 pieces of minced garlic
    60g of minced pork (can use beef, turkey or chicken)
    1.5 tbsp of chili fermented bean baste
    1/3 cup of chicken stock
    1 tbsp of soy sauce
    1 tsp of sugar
    corn starch slurry;
    1 tbsp corn starch
    2 tbsp cold water
    Finish off:
    1/2 tsp of white pepper powder
    1 tbsp chopped chives/green onion

    I made your Moms Mapo Tofu for the main dish this New Year’s Eve. I an a Vegan so I used impossible burger for the meat. My husband and I enjoyed it a lot. Nice addition to my cooking repertoire. You explain your recipes so clearly. Happy 2023🥳
