  • Welcome to our exploration of Corktown Detroit, the city's oldest surviving neighborhood! In this video, we dive into the fascinating history of Corktown, its mouthwatering sips and snacks, and the exciting real estate opportunities in the area. Join us as we uncover the gems of Corktown and why it should be on your must-visit list.
    Corktown, established in the 1840s, is a neighborhood rich in history and cultural significance. Its name originates from County Cork, Ireland, as many of its early residents were Irish immigrants. The area is bounded by I-75 to the north, the Lodge Freeway to the east, Bagley and Porter streets to the south, and Rosa Parks Boulevard (12th Street) to the west.
    One of Corktown's most iconic landmarks is Michigan Central Station, which operated from 1914-1988. In its prime during the 1940s, the station saw 4,000 passengers a day and housed 3,000 employees in its office tower.
    Corktown's real estate scene is a mix of contemporary and historic properties, with lofts going for $300-400 per square foot and up. Notable developments include Grinnell Lofts and The Eleventh, a new townhome development.
    The neighborhood is also a food lover's paradise, featuring favorites like Ima, Takoi, Mercury Bar, Slows, Otta Via, Nemos, The Sugar House, and Motor City Wine. Don't miss out on these amazing spots!

    Enjoyed your commentary on cork town…. Always good to know vibrancy is happening in many different areas of the city .. I would have liked for you to have covered MORE REAL ESTATE in that area …. And am interested in what you know about the corner condos .. I did see a report that didn’t seem very impressive as far as units being sold while others are doing well .. that may change as Michigan Central nears its completion , but at this point there doesn’t seem to be any sort of wait list ( if what this agent said was accurate)

      Hey Bruce! Thanks for tuning in. We will work on getting more real estate in the videos. Many people look online and can see listings 24/7 they can't really get local takes, opinions and viewpoints from Zillow and the like. Corktown is a great area to watch. I am there every week and are some amazing areas already and it is changing quick!

    Fun fact:
    The Cork region in Ireland is called Corcaigh in the Irish language which means marsh. As with many Irish placenames they became anglicised - so the first syllable of Corcaigh sounded like Cork so that's what the British referred to it as. If you speak Irish you say Corcaigh and if you say it in English you say Cork.
    Corcaigh is pronounced - Kirk ig-

      Noted! Check out some of our other video we do in some videos. We focus on most of the stuff that "isn't in listing photos" as many people have easy access there. Is there anything else we should consider? Thanks!

    Lived in Michigan for 18yrs 71 to 90, the history is gone when they demolished tiger stadium. Yea stupid development. Guess im bias and old school. Remember my dad taking me to 1st ballgame at tiger stadium. Greenest grass i ever saw, it was bright, the smell of hotdogs. My fav players gibson , Parrish larger then life. Never would move back up north. Would love to see a tiger game though only if it was in tiger stadium, would love to take a road trip and take my son there. But oh well. Comerica park thumbs down.

      Corktown has some really good things going on. Have you seen the community center they built where the older Tiger's stadium is? Good stuff happening in Corktown these days!

    I love takoi and there is no gentrified so to speak. The area has been gentrified and yes there was a fire. Mercury is great if you aren’t black. I just love your food list. Much success to you and this UA-cam journey. Great video. I live in North Corktown and love it.

    Man, I looked on trulia- they want way too much money for these dwellings......plus Detroit proportey taxes are really hign... sorry for the negative review..but greed seems to prevail.....fro these peices you could live in Grosse Point.

    • @LIVINGINDETROIT
      @LIVINGINDETROIT  Рік тому +1

      It's not negative just an opinion. Most large cities will have a higher tax rate. Detroit has increased in value 122% in the last 5 years and much more if you go back further. There is no way to predict the future but if that trend continues. Some of the prices in some of the most expensive parts of town will look like a steal one day. Either way I am excited to see if play out!
