Which of these 10 spots would you most like to visit in Detroit? And where should we go that wasn't featured in this video? We'd love to hear your recommendations for next time!
I would love to visit the Motown Museum as I've seen some of the bands on the label live and I would like to stand where they stood. Seems to have recovered a city from the terrible time when it went broke. Still love your videos and your lovely smiles.
@@john80c Thank you, as always, John 😊 Detroit has definitely emerged strong after so many challenges and it's inspiring to see. An amazing city. I'd love to know which Motown bands/artists you saw live! Sounds like I'm about to be quite envious... 😉
@@john80c I think my jaw hit the floor when I read those 3 names, John! I was prepared to be envious but HOLY COW. 😮 I can only imagine how fabulous it must have been seeing those artists in person... I'm curious where you saw the concerts?
I do not know much about Detroit but when I will visit definitely I will check: Library Street Collection, Motawn, Henry Ford and 100% Art Museum. ❤❤ aaaannd of course I will try the local cuisine lol👍
I went to Detroit twice and the second time I went my mother and I volunteered with the greening of Detroit to help plant trees in this distressed neighborhood of 7 mile road. We enjoyed our visit and checked out downtown which is probably my favorite downtown in any city i visited in the US. Sadly, My mother, Edith Maria Johnson passed away from Bile Duct Cancer last Tuesday night and she was only 70. I was reminiscing our time together when I looked at picture of us at the Detroit International Riverfront. When I have the time, I’m going back to the 313 to check out the city and volunteer to honor my mom! RIP mom
I'm really sorry to hear that your mom has passed. Sending love and strength to you and your family. ❤️ What a great thing you two did together planting trees in Detroit. That's a great legacy to leave that will continue to grow for years to come. I hope you'll be able to return to the city to honour your mom, as you say. When you come, we made a video about where to eat and drink in Detroit I hope you'll find helpful - lots of great spots to go: bit.ly/detroitfoodie
As a Detroiter living in Chicago, I really enjoyed this video. It's the longest continual smile I've experienced since a little boy. Thank you, God bless!
Our present Mayor should receive lots of credit. We needed someone who could manage crisis after crisis and make tough choices. I'm proud to be a Detroiter for Seventy years and PROUD of my city. That said, I won't forget what Dan Gilbert has done for Detroit. Has invested his heart and soul in to the city that we all love at great sacrifice to himself. THANKS Dan.
Thanks for sharing this! Dan Gilbert clearly loves Detroit ❤️ Have you seen our other Detroit video about food and drink? Curious if you're familiar with any of these spots: bit.ly/detroitfoodie
Dan Gilbert is EVIL. He made his money on sub prime mortgages and is stealing from the tax payers. He also funds the IDF--carrying out war crimes in Gaza. All the "good" he does is for himself. Any donations he makes allow him to further takeover the city. And don't get me started on the Mayor. You can love the city, but you need to do research on the politicians.
Well if you been here that long, he wasnt the only Mayor who had tough crisis and did well for real Detroiters, if you lived in the suburbs, Its not Detroit to me. Mayor Coleman Young did much for the lower class citizens in Detroit, So lets remember him as well. Now when are they gonna fix the roads!
Hi! That's fantastic! Do you still live in Detroit? We made another video about where to eat and drink (here: bit.ly/detroitfoodie) and I'd love to know if you've tried any of these awesome spots :)
Thank you! Hearing this from a Detroiter truly means a lot. ❤️ We just posted another video about food and drink in Detroit. If you haven't seen it yet it's here: bit.ly/detroitfoodie Would love to hear your recommendations for our next visit as well!
@@reubenellis2812 Wonderful! I've got a good list going of places I need to go next time we're in Detroit...! Welcome to Detroit! I live in the Detroit metro area and have been to many of these places. One place you may want to check out in a future trip in warmer weather is Belle Isle, an island and park in the Detroit river.
Hi Susan! Thank you for the warm welcome! We loved visiting Detroit and it's great to hear you've been to some of these places as well. I appreciate the Belle Isle suggestion and you're not the first one to recommend it actually! Looks like a great place for a return visit in the summer. Someone mentioned they thought you could rent bikes there as well? We'll be sharing another video about places to eat and drink in Detroit so if you have any tips on that front I'd love to hear too. Have a lovely weekend!
@@EileenAldis I think you can also rent kayaks, just don't paddle too far out into the river full of big boat and barge traffic. There's a newly reopened aquarium there that I've been wanting to see, located between the stables and the maritime museum.
Motown museum is a must to see in Detroit. I was stunned how the room where the greatest hits of all times were made was so small and cramped. At the end of the tour we all, tourist from all over the world, sang "My Girl". A wonderful and unforgettable experience.
We loved singing My Girl as well! Such a nice moment and special being in that space. I agree it's a must see/do. We also made a video about food and drink in Detroit with lots of yummy spots: bit.ly/detroitfoodie :)
Detroit has always been great. I was born in Detroit and still stay here. We do not get praise like Chicago or New York . We have survive Bankruptcy. We are a strong city and a great city😊😊
Go Lions indeed! I don't know much about football but I know they had a great season this year, right!? We made a video about food and drink in Detroit and I'd love to know if you've been to these awesome spots before: bit.ly/detroitfoodie And please let us know your recommendations for next time :)

Hey Ed! Thank you! We really appreciate that 😄 Curious if you saw we made another video about food and drink in Detroit (here: bit.ly/detroitfoodie). Have you been to these spots? Would love other suggestions too...
I LOVE Detroit! Despite hard times the people of Detroit always seem to rally, recreate and rebuild. It's the most tenacious city anywhere! You've already featured my favorite spot, the DIA, but you've given us so many other places to put on my bucket list! Terrific video, Eileen!❤
Thank you so much, Linda! You've put it so perfectly about the city of Detroit! It's unstoppable and I especially loved the neon sign that says "Nothing stop Detroit." So true and never more evident than now. The DIA is incredible and I definitely need to go back because there's waaaay more to appreciate. As an art lover I think you'll enjoy The Belt and the two galleries there as well! ❤️
I live downtown Detroit & I’m from Detroit glad you enjoyed it thanks for the video lots of information I didn’t know . I love this city to infinity ❤️
Thank you! I'm so glad to hear that. We also made a video about food and drink in Detroit with hopefully some new ideas (or maybe places you already know?!) - it's here if you want to check it out: bit.ly/detroitfoodie :)
Wow! I had no idea there is so much to do and see in Detroit - love your video. Best one ever on this remarkable city. Planning my own visit soon. Thanks Eileen and Marc. You are the best too.
Thank you! ❤ There's a lot to see and experience in Detroit! We'll be sharing another video about where to eat and drink so watch for that next. Glad to hear you've been inspired to plan your own visit!
When you come to Detroit don't forget one stop not mentioned in the video: The Detroit Zoo! It is a world-class zoo and is know internationally for it's program of breeding amphibians to reintroduce into the wild.
Congratulations on a beautiful and very informative video. If my name was Detroit, I’d be giving you big hugs for showing me off in such an amazing way. I absolutely loved the video and inspires me to put this beautiful city on my to do list. Thanks again. ❤❤❤
Thanks so much, Ron! I absolutely love the way you put that about "if my name was Detroit" haha. 😄 I hope we've done the city proud! It truly is an inspiring and exciting place and an awesome time to visit ❤️
I LOVED this video….! A confession….I live just a few hours from the Great American City of Detroit…. ....And I learned a LOT just now! What a comeback story! I’m left breathless at the number of places/things I intend to see and do now in Detroit! You’ve spun this tale well…. And the level of detail was expansive and welcome! I’ve already looked up accommodation!
Fantastic!! That's wonderful you're already looking up places to stay! I recommend the Book Tower (Roost Apartment Hotel we show in the video) as well as the Shinola Hotel and the Siren Hotel (more on that one in another video to come...). All within easy walking distances of many of these spots. Detroit is absolutely fantastic and it's certainly an exciting time to visit. So glad you enjoyed this video! Another to come with more spots to add to your hit list... :)
What an amazing video! I thought I knew my city until I watched this. I feel like i need to create a Detroit bucket list given the content of this video.

@@EileenAldis Thank you. I will check it out. I’m Canadian and live across the river from Detroit. I did live in Detroit for a dozen years and I loved the city. Even after I moved back to Canada, I continued with my job in Detroit and commuted daily for many years. I know the city well. I was there thru many of the hard times but came to find out how resilient Detroiters are. I love the architecture, the history, the food, the music scene, etc. I’m so happy to see the city rebound the way it is and finally getting their proper due. Thanks to people like you, everyone will realize the gem that Detroit is. 👏👏🥰
I have lived in Detroit for over 50 years and absolutely love my city and the people. I actually learned a few things from your video and now have a few more places to check out.

Thank you Eileen. I have lived in the city most of my life and this travelogue brought a tear to my eye. I have yet to return to the Book Tower since my childhood when my parents brought me there.
I'm delighted this moved you - thank you for sharing that. 🥹 I hope you'll have a chance to visit the Book Tower again and that it brings back great memories for you. @EileenAldis I just browsed the video. I live near the original buddy's and get it every now and then. I have been meaning to check out PAO though! 😁 a decent ramen spot I like is Johnny noodle king
Great video,,,I stayed in Detroit thirty five years ago for a few days and visited the incredible .Ford Museum and was so disappointed in downtown Detroit. I see now Detroit has rebounded and looks beautiful.
Glad you enjoyed it! Sounds like it may be time for another visit to Detroit...! :) We made another video about places to eat and drink I think you'd enjoy as it shows more of the city as well: bit.ly/detroitfoodie
Wow! Thanks so much for bringing the revitalized Detroit to light. I live in Florida and about 8 years ago we went to visit Detroit because I'd read so much about the rebounding city. It was eye opening even back then. A beautiful city coming back to life. We stayed at the restored Book Cadillac Hotel and witnessed construction crews working 24/7 gutting and restoring downtown buildings! It's so great to see that work speeding along at a rapid pace. Back then, the Book Tower was only a shell. So sad, but look now. Thank you as well as Mayor Duggin and Dan Gilbert. Folks should go and see for themselves.
That's wonderful to hear! We made another video with lots of great places to eat and drink....good to know for when you're back! ;) It's here: bit.ly/detroitfoodie
Native Detroiter who left the city at age 2 and grew up in Alaska. I plan to visit next summer. I've been visiting places of my ancestors--Scandinavia, Southeastern Alaska. Can't find courage to visit Peru. Now time to visit where I came from. Thank you for this video.
That's great! Hope you have a fantastic time back in Detroit. We made another video about places to eat with lots of spots for you to check out! It's here: bit.ly/detroitfoodie We've never been to Alaska. I feel like you'd enjoy our videos from Finland actually! bit.ly/finlandplaylist :)
As a teenager living in Windsor, Riverside dances was the practice venue for Motown groups to try out their routines. I saw a 12 year old Stevie Wonder performing to a very small venue and we got to see him up close. Many other Motown groups sang here on Saturday nights, entertaining all kids who never knew what stars these groups were to become. These a very fond memories of mine and nobody talks about them. We also would go to Detroit to witness the Motown Revue, everyone was there, all day, group after group, the Temptations, everyone. Loved it so much.
WOW. This blows my mind! What an incredible time that must've been. Thank you for sharing your experience. Do you still live in Windsor? We made a video about places to eat and drink in Detroit for next time you cross...it's here if you want to check it out : bit.ly/detroitfoodie :)
I don’t live in Windsor anymore but I have such a bunch of stories about Detroit and stories about my Mum and sister and I shopping, working, and socializing. Also different situations crossing through customs, bridge and tunnel. Also, Im so old that before OHIP, the medical system we have now, I went to a special doctor in Detroit, paying as we went and how my Mum made that into an adventure every time to ease the anxiety of my procedures. Great memories that will live with me forever.
Eileen, you did such an excellent job of showing my hometown. I've been gone for 10 years now but absolutely love my city. I remember riding to work on the bus past many of the sites in downtown, walking by many others during lunch, visiting the Henry Ford and getting married there. Thank you for your enthusiastic presentation.
Hi Steve! Thank you! That means a lot coming from your as it's your hometown. I hope you're able to get back for a visit someday soon. We also made a video about food and drink with lots of spots to try next time you're in Detroit: bit.ly/detroitfoodie. So cool you got married at the Henry Ford by the way. :)
Great video!! I live 15 minutes away from the D and haven’t been to half these places!! Can’t wait to explore some more. Love how much people are seeing how cool the city is.
Hey! Thank you! I hope you enjoy exploring... it's always fun to be a tourist in your own area :) We also made a video about places to eat to add some yummy stops to your itinerary haha: bit.ly/detroitfoodie Always happy for more recommendations too!
Thank you for sharing this with me. I'm so sorry you can't visit with your husband anymore but I am happy this video brought back good memories together. ❤️
I love how you did a great job on showcasing the progress of the city and the strong historical influence this city had. This city is already on the comeback train, y’all better hop on before it’s too late!
haha thank you! All aboard the comeback train for sure! It's really inspiring and I just love Detroit. I'm really glad you enjoyed our video. :) Are you from Detroit? We'll be posting another video next about places to eat and drink in the city. Spoiler: we had a lot of good eats and treats...
My daughter is having her wedding at the Monarch Club which sits on the rooftop of the Metropolitan Building. Beautiful restoration was done and hopefully many of the guests will rediscover or see Detroit for the first time.
Wow, that sounds like a gorgeous venue! All the best to you and your daughter on her wedding day :) We also made a video and where to eat and drink in Detroit...some great inspiration for your guests, I hope! It's here: bit.ly/detroitfoodie
Love Detroit. The Henry Ford. DIA. Waterfront. Architecture. Michigan Central - where is on your video? - so much to love. Bike riding downtown Sunday evening and feeling safe. Great town.
Agree! There's a lot more we want to go back and explore. Are you from Detroit? We also made a video on food and drink and I'd love to know if you're familiar with these great spots: bit.ly/detroitfoodie :) Let us know any other suggestions please...!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! Are you from Detroit? We made another video about food and drink that I hope gives some yummy inspiration...bit.ly/detroitfoodie :)
I admire and appreciate your enthusiasm for "America's Great Comeback City," Detroit. I moved here about 3 years ago and I've fallen in love with the city: from the history to the potential, I'm excited for more to see it for themselves. I didn't know some of these places you mentioned so I definitely learned something new. I was actually in the Book Tower within the last couple of months and even took a picture of the replica tower but didn't realize there was a whole room with a history lesson. Can anyone go in there and is there just a door I missed lol? I would love to explore whatever parts of these buildings are open to the public. The Fisher Building is another cool one with Pure Detroit gift shop and is a theatre just down the street from the Motown Museum. Detroit is rapidly changing as well so there are some things being built that are not here today but will be in the coming months or years like the completion of the Joe Louis Greenway, Ralph Wilson Centennial Park, Gordie Howe International Bridge, Hudson's Detroit(GM is moving their hq to what will be the 2nd tallest building in the state behind current hq GM Renaissance Center), and my favorite the reopening of the abandoned Michigan Central Station in June. You might also like the Mbad African Bead Museum where you can buy necklaces and whatnot some of which are actually from Africa and a secret activity of kayaking through the Venice like canals of the Jefferson Chalmers neighborhood. I really want to do this but there are 1 or 2 companies that do group excursions for a couple hours around $50/person if I remember correctly.
Wow, thank you for your wonderful comment and for sharing this great information as well. I'm making a list of things I want to do on future trips to the city. Am really looking forward to the station being open in June! A lot to look forward to for sure. As for the Book Tower, yes, anyone can go and look inside the historic exhibition. It's across from the main reception desk under the glass dome. Near the elevators and glass-walled kitchen prep area. Take a look next time! We also just posted a new video about food and drink in Detroit and I'd love to hear your thoughts. It's here: bit.ly/detroitfoodie Please let us know any recommendations you'd add :)
Thank you, I'll go to the Book Tower exhibit when I have some time near there and same with the Library St Art Collective and the buildings around there. I was also glad to see all the love we got from the NFL draft this past weekend. The city is rockin' right now although some of us already knew all the fun that can be had here. 😂 I'm not a foodie so I'm sure I'll learn a lot from your food video but my guesses are a Coney dog, pizza, and Mexican food. Then Dearborn has the middle eastern along Warren Ave
@@A.J.Valenti I was delighted -- and not surprised! -- to see the record-seeing crowds during the NFL draft. So fantastic. You're right about the Coney dogs! We did a taste test actually ;) Curious what you think of the others...and would love any suggestions for Mexican and Middle Eastern food. If you haven't been to Baobab Fare already I HIGHLY recommend a visit!
WONDERFUL to finally read a very positive story and acknowledgement of my beautiful Detroit. While she remains imperfect, she and the people of Detroit share a glorious story of Redemption, economic survival and cultural faith. I had been frustrated by efforts to brand Detroit as a deep tragedy of crime, Black shame and a dashed hope of how past racism was a good thing. This program also provides powerful edit on Detroit's past, present and future contributions. Thank you!
Thank you for your wonderful comment on our video! 🥰 It means a lot, especially coming from a Detroiter like yourself. I'm curious if you've seen the video we made on food and drink in Detroit? It's here: bit.ly/detroitfoodie Have you been to any of the places in the video? If you have suggestions for us, we'd love to hear. We're putting together a wish list for another visit.
Great video! Next time, visit Belle Isle, the farmer's market, sports stadium area, Detroit Public Library, Fisher building, Pewabic Pottery, the Apparatus Room, the Riverwalk near Rencen & much more! Loved your video!
Hi Debra! Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it 😊 We appreciate all these fantastic recommendations for next time! We actually did visit Apparatus Room and filmed part of our other video there - it's all about where to eat and drink in Detroit. It's here: bit.ly/detroitfoodie Apparatus Room is featured but we visit lots of others too. Curious if you know these spots too...!
Thank you so much for this wonderfully detailed overview of Detroit. I can tell you really love the place! I really appreciate all the historic details that you shared. I'm planning to visit this year thanks to your video!

Finally got around to watching this excellent video. I've had a soft spot for Detroit since the early 1970s, when I would listen to CKLW The Big 8, Windsor, at night from my childhood home in Queens, NYC. My only visit was a side trip over ten years ago from Ann Arbor to see Hitsville, U.S.A., which was really worthwhile. Hope to get there in the near future to see Michigan Central and all of the other old and new sites. Maybe after the Gordie Howe Bridge opens...
It is a beautiful city. The city's manifestations of creative and talented people is just wonderful. The collectively world shows and holds so much history. Thanks for sharing.
As soon as she said “process”, I had to check, and yes, a Canadian, doing a tour of Detroit. Nothing wrong with that, we’re glad to host you. Love the video! A nice change from the abandon explorers, and suburbanites dragging the city.
haha thank you! I know other words sometimes reveal my "Canadian-ness" but I've never heard of "process" being one of them...interesting! I grew up a couple of hours away from Detroit across the border. Glad you enjoyed the video! We made another video about food and drink in Detroit and I'd love to know what you think - it's here: bit.ly/detroitfoodie :)
@@EileenAldis It’s all about the “o”s. How we differ when using long and short. The classic about-aboot, or praw-cess vs prOcess. No one is right or wrong, just different. ☺️ It is a fun little identifier of region. Thanks for the link. I enjoy your content!
I was born in the old Deaconess Hospital on Jefferson Ave. I moved away from Detroit in 1983, but much of my family still lives there. I still remember the smell of smoke from the 67 riots and the devastating effects it had on the city, so to see Detriot coming back strong is a very emotional experience. Now, when i come back to Detroit, I feel a great sense of civic pride and admiration for its citizens.
That is so great to hear - thanks for sharing. If you want some yummy inspiration for where to eat on your next visit to Detroit, we also made a video about great spots to eat I hope you'll enjoy: bit.ly/detroitfoodie :)
Superb job of covering the favorite spots you visited. But there is more. To complete the tour, add 1) Belle Isle, 2) Dequindre Cut, 3) Lakeshore Drive into the Points, and 4) Cranbrook.
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for these suggestions! Have you seen our other video on Detroit? It's all about great places to eat: bit.ly/detroitfoodie Would love your other suggestions on that front too. Do you mean that central station is closed to the public typically? Maybe they do tours? I'd love to see inside...
@@EileenAldis Over the summer the Michigan Central Station was open for tours, but that ended at the end of August. Now it is an office building, and I think you would either have to go in on business or get special permission from the management (Ford Motor Company). It is worth visiting even if you can only see the exterior.
I’m really glad I found this video! I had a lot of misconceptions about Detroit, mainly centering around violence and poverty, but I’ll for sure check the city out now 🙂
I'm really glad to hear that! 😊 There are so many wonderful places to visit. May I add a few more stops for places to eat and drink? We made a video about it here: bit.ly/detroitfoodie Hope you enjoy!
Thank you so much for showcasing my city. You have shown me things I didn’t know and I have lived here all my life (64 years). I’m definitely going to do a more intense tour of my city and check out the things you pointed out that I missed!

Wow, just, wow. So what I thought I knew about Detroit...and indeed wasn't much...has been basically turned on its head. Absolutely amazing. Which 10 spots to pick? It would be hard to leave any out! And who doesn't love such a remarkable comeback story! Not sure if anyone can do a better video on this city than you guys. Also more reason to root for their sports teams i.e. the Lions!
Hi Scott! I've been looking forward to reading your comment! Hope you're having a happy Easter/weekend. 😊 Seeing a jersey on the Spirit of Detroit monument is definitely extra reason to root for Detroit sport teams! It's such a fun tradition. And doing all 10 things in this video sounds like a great idea to me.... 😉 Our next video is all about places to eat and drink in Detroit 😋

Fellow detroiter here, kinda wondered that too. She's clearly only a visitor. This is more trendy modern stuff with iconic known locations like the HFM that are published in every touristy guide there is thrown in. We need a native detroiter to get into the heart of the city, mexican village, trappers alley, as you mentioned the Renaissance building etc. I suppose it's different when you grow up here. St. Andrews hall, Jets pizza (we knew the original owner Eugene!) things like that that were a daily staple, and she didn't even mention it being called hockeytown which is just offensive lol. Saying that people don't know Rosa Parks lived there. Whatttt. Tiger stadium literally sat on Rosa Parks boulevard I mean come on. I guess maybe some of us take a little more pride in the Detroit area than others. The iconic footprints at the Detroit zoo are also a huge miss. There's the touristy spots that people may want to check off and then there's the real City. Those things are not the same at all! She also needs to get down into hamtramck on fat Tuesday for some paczkis!
Hello! Thank you so much for your gift! We really appreciate it and are delighted you enjoyed this video on Detroit. Are you from Detroit? We made another video about places to eat there if you'd like to see more...guaranteed to make you hungry though haha 😋 bit.ly/detroitfoodie
Oooo guys, what a wonderful presentation of Detroit, architecture there is impressive. Thank you for showing me this, unknown for me, city and all perks. Thank you for all interested facts about this city, definitely you convinced me to visit 😉. Big hugs for you both 💕💕
Hi Ewa! I'm so glad we've convinced you to visit Detroit! 💗 It's a fantastic city and now is an exciting time as they rebuild and grow. This video is a snapshot of things to do but there's so much more as well. Thank goodness the older buildings weren't demolished so they can be given TLC again and made beautiful, like the Book Tower. They just don't make buildings like that anymore! Hugs back 🤗
As a native Detroiter (born in Southwest Detroit - Mexicantown), I appreciated your profile of my beloved hometown. My husband and I plan to move back downtown (we left in 2012) and will rent an apartment at the Book Tower! Soooo excited and proud of my town.
Oh WOW that's really exciting! The Book Tower?!? So cool. Good luck with your move! I don't know if you saw already but we made another video about places to eat in Detroit, including places within walking distance of your new home....and one that's actually *in* the Book Tower. Don't even have to leave the building. 😂 It's here: bit.ly/detroitfoodie Let me know if you try any of them or know them already!
Thank you! We'd love to come back and make more videos. Where else should we go? We made a video on food and drink in Detroit which is here: bit.ly/detroitfoodie I'd love to know if you're familiar with these places and if you have other recommendations please let us know :)
It's great what's going on there. The last time I saw it it was a half burned down half destroyed mess. But I'd love to see it now. My favorite building and biggest heartbreak is the train station it's amazing what they've done to bring it back! Thanks for the video.
Thank you! And glad to hear it - Detroit is fantastic. We made another video about places to eat with lots of recommendations for your trip: bit.ly/detroitfoodie :)
Born and raised in Detroit a very, very long time ago and haven't been back in a very, very long time. This video was wonderful to see. I am wracking my brain trying to remember the best rib spot ever, with jazz, in the late 60s.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it :) We made another video about places to eat and drink...maybe it will jog your memory about the rib place - it's here: bit.ly/detroitfoodie Hopefully you can get back for a visit soon!
Awesome video! I’m from the Midwest (originally from the Chicago suburbs, nos live in California but went to school in Michigan) and always believed that Detroit would make a true comeback. The last time I was there was maybe 2010, when things looked pretty bleak following the bankruptcy of the big three. There’s a conference I’m planning on going to next year in Detroit and look forward to see all the revitalization.
Thanks for sharing this! I think you'll see big changes since the last time you were there. I'm excited for you to visit again and have an amazing time next year. We also made a video about food and drink in the city (here: bit.ly/detroitfoodie) with lots of great spots to check out when you're here too. :)
Thank you! We really appreciate that. Are you from Detroit? We made another video about places to eat and drink in the city if you haven't seen it yet: bit.ly/detroitfoodie :)
I love Detroit , been living downtown for 16 years. This is really becoming a wonderful city again everything you mentioned is just so spot on ,and there’s just more and more , can’t wait for the huge Michigan central train station opening in June. And the new Hudson Tower completion, The place is absolutely out of the ballpark fabulous.
Thank you! We really appreciate your comment as a Detroiter. :) I'm really excited about the central train station opening again. It's such a gorgeous building and I can't wait to see inside. I hadn't heard of the Hudson Tower but I'll look it up now. We made another video about food and drink in Detroit (here: bit.ly/detroitfoodie) and we're putting together a list of places we want to go next time we're in the city!

Great video. Recommendations for your next visit: Belle Isle, Michigan Central Station, Greenfield Village, Detroit Princess Riverboat, Riverwalk, Greektown, Mexicantown. Passport? Cross the Ambassador Bridge and head over to Windsor.
Thank you! And these are great suggestions I'll be adding to our list for next time. And we're Canadian so we have to cross the border to get to Detroit every time 😉 We made another video about food and drink in Detroit...would love your suggestions for that too if you have any to add: bit.ly/detroitfoodie :)

Thank you for this video. I lived in Windsor from 74 to 78 and went to college there. We went to Detroit all the time for the best concerts, bars, food and shopping. It was a riot. I was sad about the later decline. It's taken awhile, but i'm so glad to hear about the rebound. I must go back. The big difference. I remember our dollar being at par. Now it sucks.
Thanks for sharing! That must've been a lot of fun. The Canadian dollar is less fun, yes. 😂 But still a great time to go back! We also made a video about where to eat and drink (here: bit.ly/detroitfoodie) full of ideas for when you make your next trip. :)
Thank you! We appreciate that and are happy you enjoyed it 🥰 Are you from Detroit? We made another video about where to eat and drink and it's full of fantastic spots. Thanks for making this delightful video. I just watched a video but it showed abandoned neighborhoods and schools. You can get a distorted view of Detroit. And saying people in the suburbs are leaving.
Glad you enjoyed it! We made another video about places to eat and drink in Detroit with lots of delicious inspiration if you'd like to see more bit.ly/detroitfoodie :)
i love the Henry ford and Greenfield village in Dearborn. it is one of the most amazing museums ever. there is so much history. it is incredilbe. plus they have a true imax screen size

I really loved your video. So many places of neat architecture & the history there was much more diverse than just about automobiles as one might otherwise expect. Super cool in many, many ways. Really enjoyed your video so much. Great seeing you & Marc again after a while since the last one made.
Thanks, Kevin! So glad to hear that! 🥰 The architecture is amazing and more and more buildings are being restored to glory. We loved doing a walking tour to take it all in.

I have to go back and do the things you mentioned. I was a student at WSU in 1977-79 and my dad worked for the Detroit News back in the 60s-89. Boy has it changed. I remember going g to the African American museum when it first opened. It looks like it has really expanded. What a great city. And I was from Ann Arbor.

RIP mom

Time to return to Detroit. It’s passed Chicago up again. Downtown Detroit is cheaper, artsy, safer with more to do now
Our present Mayor should receive lots of credit.
Coleman Young was Detroit's greatest problem.
He’s worked with just about everybody to get the city rebuilt.
Born in Detroit and lived in the city and attended University there too! Have loved The D my entire life! 55 years and counting!

As a teenager living in Windsor, Riverside dances was the practice venue for Motown groups to try out their routines. I saw a 12 year old Stevie Wonder performing to a very small venue and we got to see him up close. Hey! Thank you! I hope you enjoy exploring... it's always fun to be a tourist in your own area :) We also made a video about places to eat to add some yummy stops to your itinerary haha: bit.ly/detroitfoodie Always happy for more recommendations too!
Grateful! Until my dear husband passed away in 2013, we visited Detroit often. I’ve since moved away and this video certainly reminded me of why…🥰
Thanks for the video Eileen. Great job, Keep up the good work.
Don't forget the Detroit Zoo!
Thank you so much for this wonderfully detailed overview of Detroit. I can tell you really love the place! I really appreciate all the historic details that you shared. I'm planning to visit this year thanks to your video!
Hi Dorothy! I'm so glad to hear that and thank you for your lovely comment! I hope you have a fantastic time when you visit Detroit. We made another video about great spots to eat and drink (here: bit.ly/detroitfoodie) which I hope will give you some more places to check out during your trip. :)
Thanks for sharing this! Are you from Detroit? We made another video about awesome spots to eat and drink here: bit.ly/detroitfoodie :)

@@sarcasticaification haha thank you! So glad you're enjoying our videos...lots more on the way! 😄
And what would be on the list if it was readily open to visitors, the former Michigan Central Station restored by the Ford Motor Company.
@@davidrichards3921no it's much more than an office building. They have shops and apartments.

This is the best video I seen about the city the absolutely best
What about the Griswold building, the RenCen and Greektown and the
Detroit
Zoo?
Thank you for sharing.
