Certain games for example use all the VRAM they can get, while not needing it. i have a 3GB GTX 1060, in a nutshell its a good card. i've played a few games on your list with it, and they all come back with at least 60FPS with a mixture of medium and high settings depending on the game, that's just a monitor limitation however. The only real drawback is the cut Vram, i think cuda cores, and since this is the 3GB version the lack of any Raytracing support.
I have an MSI Geforce 9600 GT 512 MB card which is also red. Though not my daily driver since a long time. It still works fine and overclocks well. Impressive, when you consider how old it is!
I have one of these! It comes from a Lenovo Legion C530 prebuilt which has red LEDs on top (google it and you'll see why the card has so many red accents). I am still using that prebuilt, with an i5 8400 and 16gb of ram. Still enough for me in 2021. I however had to repaste and undervolt the card to get it to lower temps while maintaining a core clock above Nvidia's boost clock, and it is still a bit loud compared to normal fans. This is also because the C530 chasis is very small and severely restrictive when it comes to airflow. I overall don't recommend this graphics card model and would love to upgrade to a 3060 ti / 3070 in the future. Great video!
@@Menjac That is a bold assumption considering you have no idea what I'm using my pc for. I would benefit more from a cpu upgrade for some workloads, and a gpu upgrade would be great for others.
Got my EVGA 1060 right as the GPU market was on the verge of crisis. Pretty sure i could sell it now and get double the money. It still holds it's own in new games tho. Not bad for a 5 year old GPU.
Used to have an MSI GTX 550Ti back in an old Medion PC. The entire PCB AND the cooler both were red. So that's nothing particular new to me personally. Apparently this is what they do to mark OEM models.
You know back in the day AMD used to be green too, before they bought ATi. Then they transitioned to Black and Green for the CPUs with the phenoms and now they are orange. :D So back in the day you'd get an AMD CPU with Nvidia GPU and you'd have an all teams green build.
The best you can pair with a upperend C2Q is a non-TI gtx 1050 without seeing severe CPU bottlenecks. Even the ddr5 gt 1030 can max out a base clock q9550 in CPU intensive titles from 2016.
since so much of the PC market is using a 1060, games coming to PC really do have to target a decent experience with this card. That's my reasoning why it holds up so well.
If I remember correctly the 3gb 1060 didnt just only have half the vram but less cuda cores on the chip as well. Remember that at the time reviewers said that it shouldnt really be called a 1060 with the 6GB model as reference.
Just noticed its running even hotter than my 980Ti Founders Edition. I'm hitting around 79c to 81c, seems like that 1060 needs a bit of a clean or a thermal paste reapplication.
Have you and your sister thought about the backdrop in your shots? You might try and step up the look of your videos and a more considered background would really help
For Watch Dogs Legion, maybe the 1060 would've handled HUB's Performance settings + 900p resolution. You should consider trying Digital Foundry or Hardware Unboxed settings more often, these do a lot for me when I start a new game and give a sense of relief to my 1080 Ti at 1440p on newer game (Valhalla for exemple).
There's so many different variants of the 1060. It would be cool if you got your hands on all of them and compared them all! Although getting your hands on them would be a pain unfortunately
The 3GB cards have a place for bringing up games performance (and video decoding) with older CPU chips that really need a 2GB card but benefit from a 3GB card because they tend to be a bit faster too. So an example chip in such a PC build would be a black edition fx4100 (or similar fx4300 etc.) totally overclocked, BCLK'd and with volts tweaked. So, to make it suitable, you must thrash the fx4100BE CPU while learning from an expert youtuber guide showing how to. Another example could be around a fx6300 but I'll stick with the quadcore fx4100 for simplicity. An equivalent speed as intel would be a i3 dualcore and some games refuse to use a dualcore. Some games demand a 3 or 4 core but need a 4core for stable framerate. So in those instances a fx4100 (etc) is better as long as you thrash it as above. It's a bit like getting a 1050 instead of a 1030 (but some more performance). The 3GB instead of 2GB is just wiggleroom to pick up the slack. They (3GB cards) have their place and for such a build you'd probably not waste a 4GB card. By then the fx6300 etc is just about worth discarding the 3Gb card and going for a 4GB. This is why the 3Gb has its place. Notice also the modest power consumption of the quadcore fx cpu.
You should look at the OEM MSI GTX 1080 Ti. Those have a very Nvidia looking blower style heatsink with the red PCB. It's a very clashing looking card haha.
Nice review - seems like a good GPU even nowadays, though I certainly wouldn't want the 3GB version of the 1060 especially when you can get 4GB variants of other GPUs such as the 1050Ti. And as for that prebuilt desktop? I say it's a bad PSU.
The 1060 is still a beast five years on, definitely getting my money's worth out of it, it is even going OK at 1440p. Which is lucky cos I really want a 3080. It's not surprising it's the most popular GPU on Steam.
When I got my 3080, I sold my 1060 for a price of 70 euros (83 dollars). It seemed like a fair price. Could have sold it for near the price I bought it for, but people should stop selling their crap for hundreds of dollars.
Maybe you should try and get your hands on some older Palit Nvidia cards, they also come with RED PCB's, for example my old Palit GTX260 Core216 Sonic edition, came with a red PCB.

@@Menjac That is a bold assumption considering you have no idea what I'm using my pc for. I would benefit more from a cpu upgrade for some workloads, and a gpu upgrade would be great for others.
love the red color and amd design
My friend is using 1060 6GB for a few (3 or more) years and it's holding very very good!
Got my EVGA 1060 right as the GPU market was on the verge of crisis. Pretty sure i could sell it now and get double the money. It still holds it's own in new games tho. Not bad for a 5 year old GPU.
Everybody first till they refresh the vid
Nice video. The AMD Vibes are scaring me
Happy easter randomgaminginHD! 😁🇬🇧🐰
i also had problems with a lenovo PC
MB drivers nowhere to be found
Used to have an MSI GTX 550Ti back in an old Medion PC.
The entire PCB AND the cooler both were red. So that's nothing particular new to me personally. Apparently this is what they do to mark OEM models.
I'm sorry...but I sold my MSI GTX 1060 GAMING X on eBay last week for MSRP. It served me well for 4 years. A real workhorse!
You know back in the day AMD used to be green too, before they bought ATi. Then they transitioned to Black and Green for the CPUs with the phenoms and now they are orange. :D
So back in the day you'd get an AMD CPU with Nvidia GPU and you'd have an all teams green build.
The best you can pair with a upperend C2Q is a non-TI gtx 1050 without seeing severe CPU bottlenecks.
Even the ddr5 gt 1030 can max out a base clock q9550 in CPU intensive titles from 2016.
Nice to see 1060 holding on....
title suits perfectly
I really saw the thumbnail and I thought it was a reference r9 290 for a sec
since so much of the PC market is using a 1060, games coming to PC really do have to target a decent experience with this card.
Last time I was this early Randomcarreviews uploaded
Have you and your sister thought about the backdrop in your shots? You might try and step up the look of your videos and a more considered background would really help
I love how square that beauty is
Core 2 quad build will be appreciated
For Watch Dogs Legion, maybe the 1060 would've handled HUB's Performance settings + 900p resolution. You should consider trying Digital Foundry or Hardware Unboxed settings more often, these do a lot for me when I start a new game and give a sense of relief to my 1080 Ti at 1440p on newer game (Valhalla for exemple).
There's so many different variants of the 1060. It would be cool if you got your hands on all of them and compared them all! Although getting your hands on them would be a pain unfortunately
the legion Y logo was a nice touch tho
Nice video. Bree- I mean bravo.
Red PCB GPUs are amazing. Wayyy better than generic RGB LEDs.
Nice title sir 😃😃
I own a GTX 1060 3GB, I can provide some performance results if you wish. A good card for playing most games at 1440p
I have the EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 GDDR5 FTW SSC 3GB version, and would be more than willing to trade for the 6GB version.
Yes, this card is STILL a beast.
So sad that mine died this year.
While it's still a capable card, it's far to old to be considered a beast.
I use the 1060 6mg and quite happy with it.
Yeah surprising how well the 1060 has held up to be fair. I’m sure you’ll get that 3080 one day!
@@RandomGaminginHD Yeah, when the 4080 is out.
This man loves his 10400F
