I really really liked the way you guys framed the cameras this time. The 1st person view gave a nice perspective on what it's like to be shooting those targets, and the third person camera was positioned in such a way that it almost felt like a 3rd person shooter camera.
Yay!!!! Your match videos always have me on the edge of my seat, seriously!! I'm also so happy for Ian, it really shows how much you have learned since starting the matches like these! And always be learning when it comes to the things you love in life!! Congratulations to you both!
Ancaporado with Ian's mobility, I think he would be better suited towards close combat with the Door kickers' AR, where as Karl would be better with the DMR/Standard Rifle AR. I'd like to see them switch it up, but I also respect what they are training for individually. I'm really hyped about the team run, to see them working together on a stage.
That falling to the level of your lowest skill level statement in very true. The local 2-gun competition this last weekend was brutal, and everyone was sloppier.
Sorry, I was supposed to be asleep 2.5 hours ago and have watched approximately half of their 2 guns today. Completely derped on how the camera was this video.
On my Korean 33 round mags, I strip them and use some powdered graphite inside with my Tula and Wolf ammo. My Glock and S2K runs without any malf's doing that. On a new mag without the graphite I would get 2-3 FTF's per mag in the top end of the mag. Once I shoot off 10-12 rounds it's no longer a problem.
You guys have mentioned in the past that doing these shooting competitions often lands shooters somewhere on a spectrum between the "gamer" (I'm here to get the fastest time no matter what) types and the "tactical" (I'm here to practice for real-life scenarios) types, and have indicated that (while there's nothing wrong with either way) you guys tend to fall more toward the tactical style. So, why the drum mag? Is that...honestly do you consider that a practical piece of kit in a serious combat situation? It's certainly a force multiplier (to use your phrasing) to have such a large magazine capacity...do you find the added weight and bulkiness problematic? Between InRange and FW, you guys produce some of the finest content on UA-cam, both because I find it fascinating, and because you guys exude professionalism while still managing to keep things entertaining. Keep it up gentlemen
yeah that's what I was thinking for the last videos too. In a match starting with a drum mag could be a force multiplier but you wouldn't want to be carrying extra drums in the field because they are this bulky.
Most likely you will just carry one drum for force multiplying applications and just have standard capacity mags once the drum is out. I say you don't need to carry multiple drums, but it is quite useful to have at least one in your kit.
yeah but in one of the older episodes Karl started without any mag in the gun and pulled his drum out of his pouch. That would be a situation where i'd say use box mags.
One possibility is that they are testing out the drum "in the field" for the WWSD project. Karl has said in previous videos that part of the process is trying stuff out in real life and on the clock to see if it's something to go forward with, and that no one piece is final until they say it's final.
Ian and Karl: I'm not a shooter (yet) as it's quite an expensive hobby here in Australia but I do have some experience with metals and machining and the steel vs brass case thing may very well solve your magazine problems (at least to some extent). Brass in general but some alloys in particular have excellent lubricity compared to steel and so will be less likely to snag up and such in imperfect magazines. This is why brass bushings are often use instead of more expensive ball bearings in some applications.
I bought one of the surplus Beretta 92S's for 299.99 from SOG. Mine looked like it had never been shot OR carried. I have a hell of a pistol collection with stuff from all over the world, and I have to say the machine work on that Beretta impresses me every time I touch it, and especially when I take it down to clean it. I am not surprised to see Karl's running so well, they are very well made pistols. I love my Glock too, but there's something about that all steel Beretta with the smooth as glass action and perfect bluing that does it for me.
I practice the DA/SA transition regularly on my M9A3. It is a tack driver, particularly at 20+ yards. You could probably benefit from the "D" hammer spring upgrade. It's such a popular mod, the A3 already has it...
I concur with Karl on the beretta, I picked up a 92S and just connected with it. My main pistol is a sig sp2009 I've had for 15 years, and I have to focus to shoot it as well as a 92. Plus I take a high grip on the sig and tend to ride the slide release. I'm really thinking about picking up a 92A1.
My Beretta 92A1 is my baby. I love DA/SA. I haven't put the G conversion in yet but I've put a skeletonized hammer, new trigger, D spring kit, skeletonized grips, and a fluted Wilson Combat guide rod on. That thing is a laser beam of destruction when I take it out shooting at the farm.
Other than cost Ian, is there a reason you chose to run steel case ammo? $160 vs $200/1K for steel vs brass. If so that's fine, just interested to know.
That's too bad, the Beretta 92 is a smooth shooting pistol. I have massive hands so it fits me really well. I see what you mean though, you need large hands or long fingers to reach the trigger in double action.
Question for Karl; what kind of mags are you running in your Beretta? Parkerized Check-mates, or polymer finished magazines? I ask because the ever-so-slightly roughness of parking could be a problem with steel cases, as compared to the slick, 'sand-proof' finish of polymer magazine finish.
With all respect, that isn't the point, the question was in reference that the steel cased Tula 9mm ammo wax not feeding from an extended mag made by Magpul. I believe Karls theory was that the problem was the difference in friction between steel and brass case. In that the magazine would feed reliably with brass case, but failed with steel. I was confining my commend to what Karl and Ian said, or at least what I understood, not an absolute theory of steel cased ammo, except with a tongue in check comment about Tula Ammo and it's cost.
Lol, Where do I get a Dixie Waste Services shirt? Also, a suggestion for your videos would be to have the shooter narrate during the footage of him shooting, in addition to the conclusions you guys add at the end. Thanks!
I've noticed my Glock 19 won't lock back with my pmag some times. I just have a few for back ups, haven't noticed issues with them other than that. But I hardly shoot steel 9mm, good thing to be aware of.
Hey guys, does Ian not put his rifle on safe? Or its just his crippling left-handedness muting the clicks? Or does his rifle is full pro stealth and doesnt make a sound? Every time Karl moves you can hear very audible click (i assume it's safety)
Have you guys considured using angled red dot sights ? I have one on my MR308 and it brought me some pretty good results for short-mid range and just switch to the 6-24 scope for long range.
is it just Me or camera angle but it seems that Karl's 92 slide catch didnt work all the time and He went click on a empty chamber prior to a mag change
Karl, have you had a chance to try the Wilson Combat Brigadier. I was just wondering if it is significantly any better than a standard 92 like what you have?
Levi Black that would be a possibility but it is no solution for my country! We need more educated gun friendly people here in Austria & especially Europe! The only reason to leave my home country would be if the E(uropean) U(nion) and/or the Austrian government would ban & try to take my guns=my property!
*Karl* "my Beretta is awesome! That things a later beam for me! I don't know why mire people don't use it." some where, some how, Paul Harrel just smiled. Also *COME ON YOU APES YOU WANNA LIVE FOREVER!* *RICO........ You know what to do*
I am begining shooter and this is way over my skill level. But I would love to try it. Yes I would not be able to finish any of those, but it could be awesome and unique expirience and the way it looks it must be FUN AS HELL :-D
my internal dialogue was yelling for Ian to change mags.. Then I realized he had a D60 Pmag😋 moments later saw the happy stick in his glock and knew he was ahead of the Curve. they don't call him gun Jesus for nothing 😃
Honestly I'm not a fan of the 1st person view. If you're going to use it, I'd rather it be in the small screen. Just the humble opinion of a dedicated Patreon ;)
You mention the steel case ammo causing problems, what would it take to tune a gun to reliably fire steel case? Would your tuning be any different if you planned to only use steel case with a particular gun?
From engineering perspective it's an issue of friction coefficients between two materials. Brass on steel has a relatively low friction coefficient ~0.4 and steel on steel ~0.7 when dry. So with steel ammo you either have to reduce the friction by lubrication (probably a terrible idea), reduce the forces pushing on the case or just make the gun cycle more forcibly (stronger spring and slightly more pew-pew in a case?) This is purely theory and my speculation, so you know just how much its worth ;)
Krzysztof Zalewski the difference in the friction definitely makes sense, what would happen if the chamber were make just a tad looser? Do the cases expand too much for looser tolerances to be a solution? It sounds like there just might not be a way to shoot steel case reliably.
Well in the design things can be done but aftermarket I'm not sure. This is a problem the french are facing with the famas: it was designed for steel case ammo but now NATO uses brass case ammo and it isn't reliable anymore. That's why it is being replaced.
I believe he was referring to the problems of steel cased ammo causing stiction within the walls of the Magpul (and otherwise exceptional product) extended magazine, no the chamber of the handgun. This observation is reinforced by Karl's comment. Don't know the coefficient of friction for the polymer of the magazine, vs the possibly problematic steel vs traditional brass, but the idea of problems related to using the absolutely cheapest factory made ammo possible is not unheard of.
That can make sense too, since with long mags you need to have more spring tension with makes higher friction coefficient materials even more problematic. But I'd think extraction also takes more energy, so you have less energy to pick up the round from the mag as well
Wow. Karl is amazing and Ian is on a his way to be a gun god. Karl .. you better think of some excuses , next time Ian will beat you if his progress is the same.
10/10 tactical Gator entry right there from Ian.

a hand granade would be nice for those little tiny plates :)
go to 5:24 for Ian's flawless hurdle into the bed of the 4x4

You guys did great. This is definitely a match that requires having everything dialed in. Awesome !
Great vid both of you. Well done to Ian on blitzing that stage and well done Karl on not fly kicking that canted plate that held you up :)
I really like the way you did the screens this time.
I like it the other way, it's easier to see what's going wrong.
SnarkyPosters I don't like having to pick who I watch
Sorry, I was supposed to be asleep 2.5 hours ago and have watched approximately half of their 2 guns today. Completely derped on how the camera was this video.
karl is a damn terminator
The beretta's have always worked well for me. They recoil so smoothly.
sweet jump in the the gator

On a new mag without the graphite I would get 2-3 FTF's per mag in the top end of the mag. Once I shoot off 10-12 rounds it's no longer a problem.
I havent seen the video and i already know that is better than the film

They've talked about it before. It's two mags in one, and is very reliable. Basically, why not?
Ian and Karl: I'm not a shooter (yet) as it's quite an expensive hobby here in Australia but I do have some experience with metals and machining and the steel vs brass case thing may very well solve your magazine problems (at least to some extent). Kangaroo hop into the Gator. LVL 99 Agility. Great shooting, guys. I enjoyed that course, very much.

This screen and footage positioning is even better than the last one. The corner is ideal for the following camera. #goodjob
I learn a lot from you guys just in the dialog alone. Thank you for such consistently awesome content!!!
Karl is right... Steel cases and Magpul mags... bad juju.
I practice the DA/SA transition regularly on my M9A3. It is a tack driver, particularly at 20+ yards. You could probably benefit from the "D" hammer spring upgrade. It's such a popular mod, the A3 already has it...
Karl, "I'm eating some serious meat tonight." O rly?
joshf785 Ian is going to share another "forgotten weapon"
joshf785 *IAN AND KARL ARE SAINTS*
Will we be seeing that Dixie Waste Service product showing up when dealing with faulty magazines?
I concur with Karl on the beretta, I picked up a 92S and just connected with it. My main pistol is a sig sp2009 I've had for 15 years, and I have to focus to shoot it as well as a 92. Plus I take a high grip on the sig and tend to ride the slide release. I'm really thinking about picking up a 92A1.
Snakesht172 I've loved the Beretta 92fs since I was a kid, still love it. 80s/90s action movies helped alot too lol
Should've called it Complex as Hell 2-Gun. Diagrams were helpful on this series, Good Stuff!
That jump by Ian was pretty NICE.
Other than cost Ian, is there a reason you chose to run steel case ammo? $160 vs $200/1K for steel vs brass. If so that's fine, just interested to know.
It was fun watching Ian kick ass with the red dot on the glock. good stuff guys. Drive on.
I use magpul mags for my training and they work great for me. It very well may be the steel ammo because I use brass for everything.
Ian just had to get his mind right.
And as Cool Hand Luke will tell ya, if your mind ain't right, you end up with a "failure to communicate."
Looks like the perfect stage for Ians trusty nagant revolver
6:02
everyone knows glocks don't malfunction. this video is russian propaganda.
Actually, it was Russian ammo.
Me and Beretta 92s don't get along. The grip is massive and I have short fingers, and while that can be overcome, it is one more thing to be overcome.
That's too bad, the Beretta 92 is a smooth shooting pistol. I have massive hands so it fits me really well.
I see what you mean though, you need large hands or long fingers to reach the trigger in double action.
Yes, I have always liked them, they just don't fit me. I have wanted to try a M9a3 to see if that works better for me.
Gun Sense (drmaudio) my wife keeps saying its to massive for her hands too
I'll be heretical.
I'd love an M1911A1 chambered in 10mm
8:15 - "And that ain't just whistlin' Dixie!"
I'd like to see Mr. Phagan on this stage.
Dynamic Gator entry: Ian is a confirmed imperial guardsman
What's a good practice for minimizing target acquisition time? Is it maybe something that lies innate, like a sense of rhythm?
With all respect, that isn't the point, the question was in reference that the steel cased Tula 9mm ammo wax not feeding from an extended mag made by Magpul. Very nice run there Ian! Well done!
How the heck do you all only have 99k subscribers. Your content is excellent.
Honestly, I don't know. I guess we're doing something wrong? Thank you for the compliment! ~Karl
Karl, seeing that you like the m9 a lot, do you think you will try out the m9a3?
I've noticed my Glock 19 won't lock back with my pmag some times. I just have a few for back ups, haven't noticed issues with them other than that. But I hardly shoot steel 9mm, good thing to be aware of.
Could you do a mud test on the Vepr ak47....see if the best ak can survive.
Hey guys, does Ian not put his rifle on safe? Or its just his crippling left-handedness muting the clicks? Or does his rifle is full pro stealth and doesnt make a sound?
Every time Karl moves you can hear very audible click (i assume it's safety)
My issued beretta doesnt feed gov't. ammo reliably. It's also so old that it's chrome now.
Damn Ian! Good looks on that gator hop
Yay! Swings uncleared weapon around wildly. :^)
Have you guys considured using angled red dot sights ?
I have one on my MR308 and it brought me some pretty good results for short-mid range and just switch to the 6-24 scope for long range.
DixSchills. I wholeheartedly approve.
is it just Me or camera angle but it seems that Karl's 92 slide catch didnt work all the time and He went click on a empty chamber prior to a mag change
As a man who lives in Flagstaff, how can one get involved in these shooting events as it is practically non existent up here.
does tula not coat their steel case with polymer like wolf does?
I'm having trouble seeing the thumbnail on this one, what's the film reference?
Nothing worth noting.
The "Suicide Squad" movie
As the name of the video implies the image shows Suicide Squads 'Deadshot' played by Will Smith, and yes the movie itself sucked.
Baby Geniuses 2
The emoji movie
If your have reliability issues I'm going to say it's the slide. I have the same one on my glock 19 and I have the same issues.
Karl, have you had a chance to try the Wilson Combat Brigadier. I was just wondering if it is significantly any better than a standard 92 like what you have?
+Sinjerjm1 No, I have never touched one. ~Karl
This seems to really be an appropriately name match.
is that one of those solar powered holosuns? how do you like it?
Have you ever done a video on the gear you use ? Holsters, and mag pouches
+kylerott We end this series with that, actually.
I wish there was something similar here in Italy :(
More dog pictures!!!

Karl's pistol doesn't lock open on last shot, that would drive me nuts
Extreme zoom!
couldn't agree more about the m9.
not a M9 but a 92A1. They differ slightly.
willem kauffeld how exactly? im curious since i own an m9.
What does Karl mean when he says his Beretta is "DASA"? (Sorry if it's an inside thing I'm new to the channel)
