      I thought he was military. But the law enforcement background makes sense. Some departments teach gun shot triage. they actually have these expanding foam kits called a Xstat that looks like a huge tampon filled with tiny pills that when inserted into a gun shot wound will expand and close off bleeding and absorb up to a pint of fluid.

      Horrible, absolutely horrible, glad too see you came out of this accident with such trauma. I would also point out for others with similar rifles, to use extra caution, with a threaded chamber lock, if you would experience in case of catastrophic failure, overpressure, the cap threads will shear off and come back to the shooter, obviously is not a good thing/design, now i would imagen every .50 caliber rifle would fail somehow with this kind of pressure, but a standard bolt action rifle would be somewhat safer, were the barrel most likely would rupture or blow and the bolt would stay in place and not come back as most heavy caliber bolt lugs can handle 100k psi without shearing the lugs. On this rifle the cap should definitely not be the weakspot here, it should have been the strongest part on the weapon system. Ones against im glad u came out of this one with your life in behold 🙏🙏Amen

    • @ferrofeles2063
      @ferrofeles2063 3 роки тому +18

      @@ragnarok5056 that's the thing under normal loads the gun is totally safe this was obviously a freak accident and 80k psi is the breaking point of those threads the way they stripped off and how much damage it did to him it had to of been upwards of 100k psi
      Also i should point out that any gun subjected to a similar event will explode in what ever way it will but yes generally thru the weakest point of the gun as for the barrel exploding that can happen but generally only if the barrel is obstructed my dads a gun smith and has seen damn near everything and let me tell you a bolt might take more than a set of threads but you still don't want to be anywhere near a gun that explodes ive seen personally the top of the chamber that came off of a bolt action and hit a guy in the head not to mention the other parts that went flying basically the guy needed a new arm. its like holding an exploding grenade next to your face now obviously this was not a 50 cal which is what saved that individuals life as the higher the pressures involved the farther and more deadly the shrapnel is its physics

    • @ragnarok5056
      @ragnarok5056 3 роки тому +6

      @@ferrofeles2063 i would almost go as far as call this a safety design flaw for this particular rifle, also on a bolt action you have pressure relief exit hole in the locking chamber, wich will help to some extent, and therefore blow the barrel instead of the action it self, but yes i would belive any .50 rifle would suffer a catastrophic failure for such a hot load, but in a "somewhat" safer manner if we can call it that?

      You'd be surprised just how far you can force your own body. It's common knowledge for doctors that it is possible to avoid passing out with enough mental stimulus or just really not wanting to pass out. For him it was thinking of his family and recalling memories that helped along with having to hold a conversation with the 911 operator.
      I've been able to avoid passing out in a similar way myself, although, in my case, my low blood pressure wasn't caused by a injury or loss of blood. So passing out would have been safer than staying conscious (aka: my life was not at risk)
      His story teaches some really good advice for medical emergencies: to block any holes in your body that are bleeding by any means possible, and to keep talking and having a conversation if you or someone else is at risk of passing out.

      Hi Sheldon, if I'm not mistaken most smokeless powders, including the modern ones are made of nitrocellulose. The so-called double base contain some amount of nitroglycerin as well. It turns out that the old powders were perhaps not so stabilized as the modern ones, so the older they get, more byproducts are formed which tend to degrade their performance. Not sure if that can (partially) explain what happened in Scott's case though.

    • @abuhajaar2533
      @abuhajaar2533 3 роки тому +9

      I don't see how instability will lead to this. This was caused by excess chamber pressure that broke whatever the weak points were. Whether that was a manufacturing defect in the gun or the shell powder load, who knows. But instability of the shell powder doesn't make it more explosive, it would just cause it to explode unintentionally.

I ended up with 2 skull fractures and by the grace of God I was able to get out climbed up bank it actually scalped the right side of my head cut my ear into and had a hole in my skull and the other side was cracked. So Cody god is always with us I only remember climbing up to the top of the bank taking my tee shirt off pushing my scalp in place and holding pressure and just like Cody it was a life or death surgery but I only remember climbing up then 3 days later waking up in a head trauma unit, so I can relate to this guy. God kept Cody and I around for a reason, so good luck on healing. 🙏
