5:25 that is by far the best safety glasses commercial I have ever seen. The fact that these withstood the force of that impact is an amazing feat of engineering.
People underestimate how strong they actually are. even the $1.00 pair from home depot will basically save your life. Always wear your safety glasses people!
i remember when this happened 3 years ago and vividly showing this video to my mom, who is now a retired doctor from Rochester strong memorial hospital. and she told me that this guy might be the luckiest guy alive. she said the chances of said injury's and considering the estimated time to hospital and the transfer to a new hospital he had like a 5% percent chance of survival. but with that said glad he survived and have been a supporter for a while. god is great brother
Lesson learned: -wear eye protection -stage a safety vehicle nearby with keys in it and unhooked from trailer -bring a buddy Glad this didn’t end in tragedy.

Yes sir, i was watching a sniper discussing different type of ammo and he said that 50 cal rounds are designed to tear into anything within a 5 foot radius or more with the shrapnel .
@@terrenceklaverweide6356 Both statements are true: if either one had panicked (which would have been perfectly understandable under the circumstances) Scott probably wouldn't be here today.
Meh, I don't know if those plastic glasses protected him from this heavy metal bit going for his eye at a freaky speed. Maybe it helped but he alos had a hack of a luck.
@@twoheartsoff3255 Ballistic glasses are also curved to help deflect shrapnel. Plastic compounds have just enough flexibility to not shatter, and enough rigidity to deflect and not crumple. But certainly he had a hell of a lot of luck.
I'm still baffled about a man just stuck his thumb inside his own neck to survive and stayed conscious the whole time. His face smashed, his neck severed, his lung punctured and he's got a thumb in his neck but still stayed conscious. This makes me give you more respect man...
You'd be surprised just how far you can force your own body. It's common knowledge for doctors that it is possible to avoid passing out with enough mental stimulus or just really not wanting to pass out. For him it was thinking of his family and recalling memories that helped along with having to hold a conversation with the 911 operator. I've been able to avoid passing out in a similar way myself, although, in my case, my low blood pressure wasn't caused by a injury or loss of blood. So passing out would have been safer than staying conscious (aka: my life was not at risk) His story teaches some really good advice for medical emergencies: to block any holes in your body that are bleeding by any means possible, and to keep talking and having a conversation if you or someone else is at risk of passing out.
That's what saved his life, the pressures from the thumb allowed for coagulation, so that blood can continue to circulate throughout his body. If it had been his carotid which is next jugular I'm not so sure he would've survived.
God was with you because of the love you have for life. You are strong in heart and mind, and your family is what keeps you here. Thank you for your grace and humility in sharing this and the lessons learned. Love you, Scott. You're a keeper.
@@TWANGnBANG We all miss you, are you gonna be back? You are the first UA-cam channel I subbed way back in the day. I've learned so much information from you and want to keep learning from ya. Hope to see ya posting vids soon
Just watched a bunch of your videos for the first time and saw this, your content is good and you definitely deserve a sub, glad you are still around man
@Green Mamba Games It wasn't poorly designed at all, the gun was built to withstand upwards of 55k PSI with the threads rated for around 80k psi, he got a Bubbas Pissing Hot reload that produced over 85k psi. The only thing that could have helped would have been some sort of shroud that helped shield the shooter incase it explods but there really isnt any location on the gun to place said shroud. Don't blame the gun blame the ammo.
When one of Scott's rifles decides to do a torture test on him and he does better than the Barrett did, that's how we know just how badass this man really is.
You brought a tear to my eye brother. I don't know what's more impressive, you not passing out or you getting in front of the right trauma surgeons in time. Apparently there is still stuff you were meant to do here on earth. 🎉 Keep making the most of it!
My Buddy had half of his hand blown off and when he looked at it he just said to himself " well that's it for that hand". When you're in shock and pain you don't really feel these things.
I’ll tell you exactly what the issue was! A lot of old military rounds used Nitrocellulose powder in their ammunition and that stuff is basically a derivative of Nitroglycerin, the older it gets the more unstable it becomes!
Hi Sheldon, if I'm not mistaken most smokeless powders, including the modern ones are made of nitrocellulose. The so-called double base contain some amount of nitroglycerin as well. It turns out that the old powders were perhaps not so stabilized as the modern ones, so the older they get, more byproducts are formed which tend to degrade their performance. Not sure if that can (partially) explain what happened in Scott's case though.
I don't see how instability will lead to this. This was caused by excess chamber pressure that broke whatever the weak points were. Whether that was a manufacturing defect in the gun or the shell powder load, who knows. But instability of the shell powder doesn't make it more explosive, it would just cause it to explode unintentionally.
I was in a car wreck, I was the passenger, driver went around a horseshoe curb off a 30 foot embankment in a 78 chevy truck it rolled about 10 times. I ended up with 2 skull fractures and by the grace of God I was able to get out climbed up bank it actually scalped the right side of my head cut my ear into and had a hole in my skull and the other side was cracked. So Cody god is always with us I only remember climbing up to the top of the bank taking my tee shirt off pushing my scalp in place and holding pressure and just like Cody it was a life or death surgery but I only remember climbing up then 3 days later waking up in a head trauma unit, so I can relate to this guy. God kept Cody and I around for a reason, so good luck on healing. 🙏

Yeah, guns ain't a toy, you're basically holding an explosion in your hands and hoping that that explosion doesn't make too big a boom and turn your gun into a grenade. But that's how it goes for pretty much all projectile weapons, even bows and arrows can truly mess you up. Imagine a wood/alluminum rod, shearing off under a hundred pounds of pressure and ramming through your arm like it isn't even there.
Bud, I've never seen you before, no idea how UA-cam recommended this video to me, but I watched the whole thing and I am so happy for your health, the fact that your kids still have a dad and your wife still has a husband and your dad still has a son, and just wanted to share my good wishes with you. 80,000psi is such an ungodly amount of force on that cap. The fact that the cap didn’t just go right through your head is nothing short of a miracle. Those pins shearing off probably absorbed enough of the energy that, even though one went in you, they saved you from the cap.
Those safety glasses may well have been the difference between life and death too. They offered enough of a strong deflection surface to save his eye and also no doubt kept him from being knocked unconscious. This is why you always wear safety gear, dang impressive performance by those glasses too!
With that pressure, I wonder if this was a sabotaged round given the unknown origins... Several Govs have seeded conflict zones with rounds intended to destroy the gun and incrementally disarm a scavenging force. Of course those typically were not 50 cal rounds..... just a thought since it’s hard to believe a normal round could fail so spectacularly.
I’m glad you’re still here! I know this happened a while ago, but I thank you for reliving that traumatic experience TWICE to educate us more on gun safety. This will very much come in handy later when I get into gunsmiting and firearm technology.

So passing out would have been safer than staying conscious (aka: my life was not at risk)
His story teaches some really good advice for medical emergencies: to block any holes in your body that are bleeding by any means possible, and to keep talking and having a conversation if you or someone else is at risk of passing out.
That's what saved his life, the pressures from the thumb allowed for coagulation, so that blood can continue to circulate throughout his body. If it had been his carotid which is next jugular I'm not so sure he would've survived.
Dont forget the W shaped finger
this is the power of mankind. we are extremely resilient creatures if we have help and prompt medical attention
After learning of the hockey goalie and his severed jugular, i understand the need for the thumb in the neck now.
God was with you because of the love you have for life. You are strong in heart and mind, and your family is what keeps you here. Thank you for your grace and humility in sharing this and the lessons learned. Love you, Scott. You're a keeper.

I’ll tell you exactly what the issue was! A lot of old military rounds used Nitrocellulose powder in their ammunition and that stuff is basically a derivative of Nitroglycerin, the older it gets the more unstable it becomes!
This should be top comment!
Gnarly..
Thank God your dad and Jesus had your back that day, you’re my favorite guy on UA-cam. Idk what I’d do without you and Hickok45.
