      I enjoy them because they are very educational and but also very civil. Well other gun channels are really goofy and dumb or get too political to the point they are almost saying "you either agree with us or you can go fucking die".
      So for me it's nice to have guys who present the stuff in a really professional manner, and have their man focus on the subject matter. But remain calm and civil anytime something political is talked about and thus not unnecessarily shun part of their audience.

    1.) Thank you both for being so detailed about the physicality of the stages and stage design. It's fascinating.
    2.) I love the furniture in that room.
    3.) Your dog is telepathic. Don't ask me how I know.

    Is it strange that I like the summary part more than the shooting parts on these match videos ?

    • @shatara42
      @shatara42 7 років тому

      Doesn't seem strange. Watching the shooty bits is fun, but it's often hard to really tell what's going on due to the angles and such. The analysis really brings it together, and illustrates the challenge of it much better than just watching a guy pop off rounds.

    Clarification on scoring. Match points are based on each individual stage. Someone can get 100 points on one stage and 10 points on another. The total available points at this match was 800. Division winners are determined by the highest number of points. Your overall match percentage is based upon the number of points you accrued versus the highest number of points accrued.
    Points on each stage are determined by dividing the lowest time by each other shooters time. These percentages are turned into points and added together for the division results.
    Match points make shorter stages and longer stage is it worth the same amount

    I recently put the 12 2GACM matches I've shot on a spread sheet with stage/total placement and percentile. It is a nice perspective (and thankfully shows an upward trend).
    On gear failures causing poor performance, I have had some of that, but where I am the one that has chosen and maintained my gear, I've got no one to blame but myself. So that is part of my performance too.

    Y'all keep saying "physical challenge" until all I can think is "Double Dare but with guns". Karl, I'm gonna need you to run in this giant hamster wheel until it lowers your rifle to where you can reach it. Ian, you're gonna root around in the giant nose until you find your pistol. Hopefully it's not too gunked up to fire.

    The scoring system (match points) is kind of growing on me. It took me a while to wrap my head around at first, but it makes a lot of sense. As Karl said, it's good to have somebody at a match to chase, and in this case I was chasing Karl (he's a good benchmark). The match points system somewhat levels the playing field, so that if you have one bad stage, it doesn't necessarily kill your entire match. Additionally, it allows you to have a wider variety in stages--you can more evenly compare 60 second stages to 180 second stages. For example, while Karl is arguably a better shooter than I am, I was able to catch him on three stages; two of them were primarily bay stages, and I got him by something like 10 or 20 seconds. However, on the rifle spinners stage, I got him by a good minute and a half. However, that 90 seconds isn't going to chase him through the whole match, it's only good for the points on that particular stage. Therefore, because he did better than me on the other half of the match, he still came out six or seven spots ahead of me.
    I didn't think about it at the time, but I agree with you guys on the idea of intermediate range rifle targets. I'm used to most of the matches at home only having 100yd berms, so that's the limit of "long range" rifle, so having targets at 300 and 350 was a nice change of pace.
    I'm okay with the types of physicality that the match employed, as in mostly cardio vs kettlebells or ammo cans etc. While concentrating on shooting, obstacles and terrain seem to be the most relevant physical factors, and the quickest to get a person smoked. Tire flips and the like seem more suited to crossfit, while moving and displacing, or moving over obstacles, or moving in and out of fighting positions, seem to have a more focused marshal application. I get where you're coming from, and we have KBs and duffel drags and stuff like that at some of our outlaw matches, but I'm okay with the way SUPS approaches it, especially with their plethora of natural terrain.

    • @graydonsaunders798
      @graydonsaunders798 7 років тому

      Is .260 Remington full rifle caliber?
      I'd be very scared of making that kind of rule unless I was confident the social setting was reliably intolerant of quibbling.

    • @marklinsarms
      @marklinsarms 7 років тому

      Yes, I would say that it is a full rifle caliber. However, in the rules we would specify the calibers that qualify. At a couple bucks a round for factory ammo, I doubt anyone would use .260. 308 would be the most probable caliber used in heavy.

  • @SinistralRifleman
    @SinistralRifleman 7 років тому

    Karl mentioned the exact reason why with the scoring system it's best to shoot two rounds. People tend to self score while they are shooting this course. This has a net result of being slower than just firing two rounds
    The only time to shoot one round for a single A zone is when you have limited capacity usually in a division like heavy-metal

    • @alexvogel610
      @alexvogel610 7 років тому +1

      Totally; when I'm running a Garand, reloads are slow and frequent, so I try to minimize them. With an AR, they're an afterthought. The time it takes to get a for-sure A zone is two or three times as much as it is for two anywhere.
      There are some systems (IDPA I think?) that require two shots, and score each one, which I find asinine. Like "I shot him five times in the face with an AK, why am I being penalized because they're all B-zone [nose and mouth] hits? I shot him five times in the face with an AK"

    • @SinistralRifleman
      @SinistralRifleman 7 років тому +1

      Alex Vogel 2GACM adds time for hits outside zero zone. I shoot those targets about 10% slower to get the hits than I would with two hits anywhere to neutralize.
      The whole head is a zero zone
      I will shoot under any scoring system. Adapting to a particular scoring system is part of the challenge.

    • @alexvogel610
      @alexvogel610 7 років тому +1

      Russel-- I've shot some matches where they'll count the whole head as a +0 and some where the A is +0 and the B is some penalty, which when they're striving for "realism" and you're using a rifle, can be frustrating.
      I will shoot most any matches, but when scoring systems artificially increase the round count (ie requiring two A zone to score, vs 1AB/2Anywhere) I start to think about weapons platforms; those are the matches I'll shoot with an AR because bringing the Garand or FAL has suddenly become much less appealing and much more expensive

  • @wastool
    @wastool 7 років тому +1

    Hey just a heads up. You can absolutely insert a fully loaded D60 on a closed bolt. It inserts very easy, I can't explain it but it is very easy unlike a conventional mag.

    • @wastool
      @wastool 7 років тому +1

      InRangeTV That's fair but I just did it this mourning. Went in just like an empty mag on a closed bolt. I was puzzled so a tried it on a second gun, worked great. I was also puzzled that if you insert the D60 empty and then rack the bolt it does not lock back, but when you fire the last round it does.

  • @moreinternettrash1778
    @moreinternettrash1778 7 років тому +1

    It would be a pain in the ass for the event organizers, and probably turn out to be costly too, but, I think it would be really cool to have a match with distant silhouette targets behind block walls with their heads exposed.
    5.56 rifles with better accuracy and faster follow up shots would have better luck trying to get a head shot, where shooters with 7.62x39 could just make body shots through the wall.

    Close range paper in corridors is (in my opinion) only realy good if you have a penalty for stopping and if you don't know exactly how many there are, you then must make decisions on when to reload (your stuff can't fail regularly) and you must know how fast you can move and engage (the right) targets.

    This is probably a stupid question,but can someone who isn't in the best physical shape participate in 2 gun matches or would they just slow it down too much. I personally have above average fitness in regards to endurance and body stats (bp, heart rate, etc.), but I have asthma which limits my ability to sprint and cerebral palsy which makes me have slightly weaker muscles. I'm very interested in 2 gun; it seems to be the perfect blend of marksmanship and physical competition.

    On the issue of physical strain, maybe you should consider playing airsoft with a Gas Blowback Rifle and full plates. The issue with gear is, you've got to teach your body how to deal with it. It changes practically everything you're used to, balance, angle of attack when going in to a run, even just standing still, lifting the carrier or gear up with your shoulders while aiming the gun, the weight taxes your shoulders in a way that you're not used to and when you throw movement under fire or movement through difficult physical parts in to the equation, its a whole different animal again.
    I've found that my plate carrier has gotten more and more comfortable with every time I play, making it more and more part of my body because i keep having to bring up my rifle, move low through underbrush and lean around cover under the stress of speed since my target plates shoot back so to speak. I can only recommend trying woodland pick up games or bigger milsims. There is nothing more sobering and no better litmus test for ideas than having to lug that stuff around for hours, only to be completely uncomfortable in the gear about crawling through some tight underbrush or so.
    And there is nothing more neat than putting your plate carrier and gear on and feeling a known weight that you're comfortable with because you've been crawling around in the thing every other weekend for more than a year. And while I haven't been in a 2Gun match, I feel its fair to assume that they are not even remotely as physically challenging as moving an entire day in gear, thus the shooter just lacks time spent in armor doing physical stuff.

      I know you're comment is 10 months old, but I suspect that has to do with video categories, InRange and Forgotten Weapons are both under "Educational" which is rarely used by most channels outside of various kids stuff semi interactive Blues Clues/Dora the Explorer and other "weird" things like that. Most gun channels categorize under entertainment or thereabouts.
      If you don't watch those suggested and move on to other kinds of vids via their channel and or the search bar it should normalize, I only recall seeing children's unicorn toy unboxings in recommended the first few vids I watched of FW.

    i am super curious why you guys don't participate in any 3 gun matches. Your bias does show a bit. Sometimes you seem ,just a tiny bit, anti 3 gun. Why? Do you guys just hate shotguns. I'd really like to know. This is coming from someone who has never shot any matches and does not yet know all the nuances of different match types but desperately wants to participate in competitive shooting sports, but lives in such a rural area of the us as to make that difficult.

    • @InrangeTv
      @InrangeTv  7 років тому +10

      Yes, there is a bias because 3 gun has become mostly a drag race that emphasizes things we're not interested in. Shotguns are fine, and we sometimes run 2 gun matches with a shotgun and a pistol, but shotgun in a 3 gun event is just a reloading race with a bunch of gimmicky systems to game the goals. 2Gun is closer to the original SoF match roots, and it tends to incorporate more of the sort of stuff you'd see in a training class or combative environment than most 3 gun venues. ~Karl

      John Floyd I've been competing in 3 Gun for 16 years, and the shotgun portion has gotten increasingly impractical. There is a growing movement amongst long time 3 Gunners to do Rifle only and 2 Gun Matches.
      When 40-50% of the membership at a 3 Gun centric club does Rifle/pistol only when given the choice, that is sending a message.
      I'll still shoot 3 Gun, but if it eventually evolves into mostly Rifle/Pistol only I'm fine with it.

      I think it's just a disdain for the game like feel of 3 gun. 2 gun has a much better balance of practical shooting and competition.
