That low light comparison got me. The bigger sensor made a HUGE difference. It's the DJI Pocket 2 for me.
The service from DJI is also much better than from Gopro! Gopro don't give any reaction if you send them a mail about problems with there products. DJI send you a mail back the same day.

I just got a DJI Osmo pocket 2, I also own GoPro 9 and I can tell you right now I was watching a lot of videos and comparisons with these 2 cameras where they saying that pocket 2 is a better choice ... that's laughable. GoPro 9 is a way better camera in all situations..., this is all advertisements. Before you make choice check it out with someone who own them and you will see.
Choosing the Pocket 2 is having a camera (or phone) and a gimbal in one and that equalls to extra $$$ in your account.
Total different cameras fit total different uses

In my opinion the Go Pro exceeds the Osmo because it's easier to carry in your pocket, waterproof, looks much better, can mount it almost anywhere, voice commands, bigger screen

Both great looking cameras. I have the Hero7 and I was very very close to upgrading to the Hero9. But held off because the media mod wasn’t available. Then the Pocket 2 came out. Ended up ordering the Pocket 2 because I felt it would add more to my kit than another GoPro. I was pretty impressed with the audio and I have always loved the footage I get from my DJI drone.
So, are you satisfied now?

He probably applied the same grade; the Pocket 2 has a more flat look, while the GoPro looks like it's adding a lot of color artificially. Probably makes it look more extreme when its color graded.

I own the gopro hero 5 and to me the value is just there for the money with Gopro. I have a cell phone that shoots 4k that I always have with me. The value of the Gopro is the ruggedness and it is the ultimate vacation camera due to size and water proofing. I have also given my Gopro to kids to shoot with and not concerned due to ruggedness. It can be mounted on so many things including to your head.
Given how light and susceptible to lateral shake the Pocket can be, DJI should really add either OIS or borrow Rocksteady from the Action and make it a toggle option. Either of those would take the Pocket to a whole new level.
Couldn’t agree more, was sorta hoping this would included in the op2.
I have a different opinion when it comes to Rocksteady, as Dave was explaining in the video, there is no artefacting (warpy stuff) in the video because they used the gimbal and no digital IS. The DJI Pocket 2 can now produce a video like the Sony RX0 ii that is more "cinematic" and can be used with mirrorless cameras without image artefacts in the video.
You can quickly identify GoPro, Osmo Pocket and Osmo Action footage in a video because of the artefacting.
I have never used this camera (first gen but watching a trail running video down the Grand Canyon I am not sure how it could get any better. Just one video but no post and about 10 min long.

I get your point, visible artifacting is horrible. I’m never sure how much is UA-cam compression though. If you are walking down a street say, unless you ninja walk with a gimbal you always tend to see the Bob up and down z axis motion.
For the example of a trail walk, z axis would not be so noticeable since it’s not a uniform steady condition, so in some scenarios it’s not noticeable.
Artifacting may be more noticeable on action cameras because you are exposing them to fast scene changes compared to how you’d use the pocket, for example mounting biking compared to shooting slower cinematic type footage. Action cameras are fixed focus with the pocket autofocus with a certain amount of depth of field.
The original pocket was and still is awesome, but had v2 the option of additional DIS it would really have had best of all worlds stabilisation.

Nice review, glad you found my stabilization video ! Both cameras looking pretty good here until you get to lowlight. The downside of digi stab.
You should also mention which one is realistic based on contrast and sharpness, because we dont know if you are reddish or yellowish.
I tried using the Pocket 2 to take videos for AVP of my cousin's bday and everyone thought I asked someone to do it for me. I might have a future on this video edit career. ;)
I have the Hero7, looking for a second angle for my videos and thinking this gimble deal may also come in handy.

I orderd the Osmo Pocket 2 today. I have the original Pocket ass well and it looks to me that all the flaws (if you can call it that) are fixed with the version 2. Wider angle lens, better sensor and with the do it all handle you don't need a wireless module, a connector convertor to attach a external mic etc. I think this is a great upgrade and it maybe not as rugged as a GP but for vlogging or making a video when your out it's just one of the best quality for buck deals you can get. Thank you for this comparison.

I use my GoPro for diving and cycling. I have dropped my GoPro when cycling 2-3 times, the body is scratched here and there but still functions 100%. There’s no way DJI Pocket could survive those, diving and falling at high speed. So yeah, GoPro all the way for me.

You should take both cameras to a dog park and film running dogs, LOL. My first Husky's name was Mogul.
I've been using my Osmo Action as a vlog camera (infrequently, obviously) and the stabilization and framing issues are less than ideal. This certainly changed my mind on the Pocket version, which I have most definitely turned my nose up at.
How is battery life?
Just seeing this. I own both but find myself using the Pocket 2 much more. Video quality & stabilization are the main reasons. The larger sensor on the 2 also gives it the advantage at night. My only advantage to the GoPro is for rain or other inclement weather situations. The new anamorphic lens for the 2 really gives you those cinematic shots that are great for SloMo.

Did you shoot in linear with horizon lock on the GoPro? That would be the closest match for FOV, distortion, and stabilization.

I have gopro 9 and I’m totally disappointed with it, just waiting next update 22.10 and if they don’t fix quality of camera I will sell it and buy this osmo pocket 2
I’ve been saying the same exact thing. Today I actually reinstalled the update from a few wks ago and on the SD card. It fixed everything. Then we got the new update tonight.
I have the Hero9 and I had a very noticeable color dots problem on
I updated a new version today. It's true a lot has been improved but the touch is still bad and the image is still too sharp and to much contrast. So for me is goodbye Gopro 🙁

I have one concern about shooting with OP2 which is its screen!! I'm a travel vlogger and I'm not the person who gonna attach a phone to OP2. So, the question is how comfortable and visible the DJI's screen is to shoot some B-rolls?
New GoPro and DJI pocket are different tools. Action camera is for action. 3-x gimbals - for a movie-like shots. That is so simple! I'll buy it both. If DJI does not upgrade their Osmo Action.
I would like to see how they compare for horizon stabilisation with a rapid side to side movement like on a bike or skiing.

The thing that I hate about pocket 2 is them small connectors.. I lost one of the connectors and it just made me mad that they sell another connectors for frickin 15$-19$ wth

The GoPro looks way overexposed and with a dirty lens. I have both DJI and GoPro products, this review does not do justice to either. GoPro footage could also have been graded better.

Hi, so a few things I did not hear you talk about is battery life and if you can exchange batteries as well as operating temperature. . I am considering the Pocket 2 since I already use the DJI Osmos 3 for my S20 phone and like the software MIMO. 2- things are concerning. I want to shoot outdoors and in Canada the temp is often below 10C and my osmos operating temp is 0-40C and I think the pocket starts having issues at below -8C which means most winter sports and stuff cannot use the Pocket? Also, the Hero has interchangable batteries which is awesome when your in the woods or need more than 2-hours filming. I cannot find if the pocket 2 battery can be swapped out?
The hero 9 is much more versatile. Slap it om the outside of your car or go diving with it. These days software stabilization can clearly replace a gimbal. Gopro is my clear winner!
It depends on what you want to do. For rough action, I would definitely go Hero 9. But stick a Hero 9 on a tripod, and it just sits there. Pocket 2 can follow you when you move and record audio from the wireless mic for about the same price. It really is two different cameras with an usage overlap in the middle.
Looks like they nailed it. I like the form factor, and if they have at least some usable focal lengths on the longer end, with a solid crop or tele adapter then it would be perfect for travel. ✌️

Guys please don't be fooled by the footage differences shown here between the 2 cameras... I'm sorry David, but I think there is something definitely wrong with your GoPro 9 footage, it lacks sharpness, or it's for some reason out of focus, dirty lens or wrong settings. I really cannot tell you what exactly it's wrong with your GP 9 image but the GoPro 9 looks much sharper and crisper in reality than what you show here. And I say this, based on the footage published by other GoPro 9 reviewers because I've never owned a GoPro, I owned the original Osmo and then the Osmo Pocket. I am not payed neither by GoPro nor by DJI, and I don't accuse you of manipulating the image, but this does not seem to me to a fair comparison in regards to the image quality, even when running. Please take your own GoPro 9 footage and compare to other GoPro 9 movies from other reviewers, and you'll see it for yourself.
Yes, this vid is very obviously bias towards the Osmo, and is comparing two cameras that have completely different purposes in life. I’m assuming he’s being endorsed by Osmo. By the way, I don’t have either so my comment is from a neutral observer.
gopro have fixed focus. Which will always be worse than non-fixed focus imo
Agreed, the sample videos were filmed horribly.
He is biased towards DJI. there was review on his kinotika channel comparing osmo action against a gopro 7 and he was calling the gopro the gopro hero "whack" and comparing the footage with the gopro in flat color mode saying the color is better on the osmo. i can't seem to find the video so i think he delisted it, but it never left me confident of him as a proper reviewer.
Dji obviously lost to the gopro, just look at the horizon feature. That shit slays

I am a Offroad blogger please advise me , my main cam is iPhone 12 Pro Max and DJI mini 2 and my nieces go pro 8 for B roll ,but that last one must be upgraded. Please if u get a chance advise me.

There is a time and place for mechanical stabilization and you can certainly get some buttery smooth cinematic shots with one, but ALWAYS better, no, no they are not.

Great video. I cant get my head around AFs and AFC .
Is AFS like manual focus ? so you click on it once and it's focused at that point. So for example
Click AFS once on a landscape.
Move behind a rock ( rock should be blurred out)
Pan /slide left and landscape will be in focus.
AFC always does auto focus
Landscape is in focus
move behind rocK
and it will refocus on the rock
when would you use AFS vs AFC

I just bought a hero 12 and I love it. I was considering getting a gimbal, but the pocket 2 can be had now for about twice the price of the gimbal. Any thoughts on whether you think the pocket 2 is worth it in 2024? It’s under $300 now and readily available. I’m mostly going to use it alongside my hero 12, but for lower light conditions. I know the pocket three has great low light capability, but it looks like the pocket two is no slouch in low light. I would love your thoughts. Do you think it’s worth it in 2024 since it’s under $300 now?
Now do the same test, but use ReelSteady on the GoPro 😅
