i love this summary! May i know what are your thoughts on the mic? How does the pocket 1 deal with wind and background noise? and is there wireless mic for 1? (or is there no need for an external mic?)

wow, thanks for the summary! I'm a fresh out of high school (almost starting college) and the last two years (post-covid) has made me realise how much vlogging is significant to me. I regret not taking much photos and videos when I was at my peak so now I try to record each and every moment that I could. So I am not the kind of person to post much on any social media so I'm looking for a camera that is not much expensive (the reason why I'm thinking about 2 or 3) but if 3 has better features for its price than I might save up a bit more. But now that I have watched a full comparison video, I might consider 1 as well. I need a camera which has a good controller wheel and a tripod and if possible, the thing, you know, the camera follows you (if this feature is only in the 3, then that's fine but I want to know if 1 or 2 has that feature). Thank you in advance :)

Just got mine today… always considered these more of a toy then something to utilize for what I do, real estate. But for that I think this will be phenomenal. Wish this came out a year ago lol
Just got DJI service in Manila to re-batt my Pocket 1. I use it all the time as a b-cam for my Sony a5100s when making youtube videos (near 500). No plan to get a Pocket 3. Too much money for my use case. Not one viewer has ever asked, or commented about what cameras I use for my content. Cheers
Def planning on picking up one of these, would love it even more if it was a bit more rugged with weather sealing. That being said, I think it's a great run & gun portable solution for vlogging, IG Stories & Reels, YT Shorts, etc.
I'm 90% on purchasing a Pocket 3 for me. I have a ZV-E10 and an A6000 I sometimes take to the gym with me to record some stuff, but usually i take my Insta360 to record, because it's much easier to take it to places due to it being a much smaller setup and i can alse record POV while I'm biking. The insta360 one RS image quality is decent, but the Pocket 3 seems like a big upgrade.
The Pocket 3 is probably the best thing to come out of the media lineup since camcorders. The Pocket 1 and 2 were great alternatives to smartphones but the Pocket 3 completely became a great tool and even a video cam replacement. It's actually quite nice to have a recording device that doesn't have notifications interrupt you every time you want to record something. Pretty great tech. Maybe Pocket 4 they can add zoom on it too since the main FOV is wide enough.
I have all 3 of the pockets and was surprised that the pocket 1 was better than the pocket 2 in some of your tests. I have used the pocket 2 for a lot of my projects so when the 3 came out of course I knew I would have work for it. The bigger screen alone was cause. Pocket 1 and 2 the screen is so small you have to look very carefully to make sure you were getting the shot. I haven’t had much time to work with the 3 yet, however I will be interested to see how much better the face tracking works. On 1 and 2…. Meh. Usually the 2 would lose track if the sun was behind you. Additionally if you were in a higher frame rate than 30 or resolution 1080, it would lose track easier. So most of the time I would shoot without tracking and it follow mode. Works fairly well actually. Great video, always enjoy your stuff.
Hi there. Could you please share your feedback on pocket 1 since you might have used for few years like any issues with gimbal, or screen, or any buttons etc. I am planning to buy pocket 3 but it nearly cost 900 usd in my country which is expensive so is it worth. Currently using go pro 8.
@@roninr8199 I was amazed how good the footage the OSMO Pocket (1) created when I first bought it. I purchased it used off of eBay 4 years ago. It has 4k with 60 fps which at that time was unheard of in anything other than SOME of the full frame cameras. But I owned a DJI Air drone and was always blown away with the clairity of the footage I got from it. Maybe the same technology. Depending on what you need it for it’s a great camera. UA-camrs griped about the lens being too narrow for vlogging, if you use even a short selfie stick, that is not an issue. If you need better sound (the onboard is not bad) you can hook an external mic to the USB just make sure it’s the right cord. It’s great for collecting B roll and has great creative features like Timelapse, and motion lapse. You can add ND filters if it is too bright and you need to slow the shutter. None of the pockets have apertures, they are locked at 2.8. The battery life is good probably the same as your GP8, maybe a little more. I would get the accessory kit from DJI that has the scroll wheel and the wifi transmitter. The wheel is precise for smooth gimbal movement, and the wifi transmitter that clips to the bottom gets rid of the need to use the phone connector to connect to your phone to view the screen on your phone. The viewing screen on the 1 and 2 are small and sometimes hard to see just how much is in the shot. Look up Jeven Dovey on YT, a few years back he did several videos on using the pocket and using it to make stock footage for money. If you can do that, you know the quality of the output is good. Hope this helped.
Hi Jason. I've been waiting for your review since this camera came out because back in a days your videos encouraged me to buy Osmo Pocket 1. So again, thanks Jason👍
That lean on the Pocket 1 when you were running alongside your daughter, is the accelerometer getting confused. I stuck my Pocket 1 to the window of a plane when going on holidays last year and as soon as we started the take off roll there was a pronounced lean. it leaned the other way when we landed. It's good to see the 3 seems to have overcome that.
Decided on a whim to get one of these. Had no idea what was going to use it for haha. Turns out it’s really cool for behind the scenes footage and test footage 👌
im planning to buy pocket 3 to replace my gimbal shots for wedding venue, as some wedding venue i go require me travel light. Do you think is a good idea to invest on this jason? Im just a little worry bout the 4k image quality is gonna be like go pro hero 10..
I would only use this a few times to use the active tracking function for shooting car clips. Even though the Pocket 3 seems like a great device, the price is a little too much for my needs. Would it be a total waste of money for me to buy the Pocket 1? Based off the experience maybe other people have with this camera
Hi Jason, at the 10:10 mark, i noticed you were wearing airpods. Might I ask if it was because you can use that to monitor the audio of the pocket 3 as you record ? If so, can share how was it done? Thanks!
Hey there:) Thank you for the video!! I don't have either of these, but I'm thinking about getting one for my next trip to Thailand. But I'm unsure which one I should buy since I don't have any experience yet. Besides, I only want to make videos for private purposes and memories. And I'd rather record nature or friends while traveling rather than vlogging, so sound an tracking is also pretty irrelevant. So if I have to decide between the 1 and 2, is the 1 better? Is there a wide angle attachment for the 1? And is the stabilization of the 1 also good or rather bad? Because I think while traveling I'll film also while walking. So which of those is more recommended? I can't decide... The 1 is also cheaper compared to the 3 and I dont know if the features of the 1 are already enough for my use anyway.
Just ordered a refurbished Pocket 1 to see how it goes. I plan to Vlog my classic truck rebuild and needed something cheap and to the point. Thanks for the detailed review and comparison!
Hi. Thank you for this video. But I am sure which product is suitable for me. I'm still looking for a good product for my travel vlogs that is not too high priced. What would you recommend?
Hmmm. Unless I missed it, I don't think you specified how the cameras were configured, at least in broad terms. In particular, when the little girl was cutely dancing around, the Pocket 3 footage looked somewhat dull, underexposed, in comparison with the Pocket 1 - which is the opposite of expectation, as the Pocket 3 is generally said to over-expose a bit. Did you have the EV and / or sharpness dialled down? What colour mode were you using? Some are now suggesting, with persuasive examples, that the Normal mode is actually the best to use unless you are going to get deep into LUTS and stuff - with light behind a face, the normal mode seems to give best facial exposure for instance, possibly due to in camera AI-type processing which is not used in the more "Pro" modes. But Pocket 2 owners have often said that the Pocket 1 PQ is often better (possibly as you point out due to lens differences tricking the eye). (I noticed late in the video that there was a shot with the child running round, and then you appear in the picture with grey sky behind, and your face is hard to make out - I bet if that had been shot in normal mode, your face would have been nicely exposed without the sky blowing out). The tiny handle add-on had the merit of giving you something to hold comfortably - but if you have tiny hands or really want the smallest possible overall size, you can leave it off. Also, if you have the camera on a tripod, you can detach the camera instantly from the little handle, leaving the handle waiting on the tripod, if that's useful. You didn't mention the audio backup feature which turns the Pocket 3 into a four channel audio recorder, which happens to also do video. (Of course you couldn't mention everything unless you did a 2 hour + presentation!). DJI introduced USB-C audio functionality back in the days of the Action 2 camera. So basically you can connect any reasonable USB-C audio device (mic, mono or stereo, or playback headphone, with or without a 3.5mm to USB-C adapter as required) and that can be direct into the base of the camera, or via the tripod adapter, or into the USB-C socket on the battery handle if that's what you are using. You could generally say that if it works with a phone it will work with the Pocket 3. And if you turn on the audio backup feature, USB-C audio is recorded onto the video file in AAC format (in stereo if the input is stereo), and the three internal mics are recorded onto a wave format audio file in stereo, which you can then mix in editing. Even if you don't have an external mic in use, you can have the same internal mic audio recorded in both AAC and Wave formats, and for the best results (in theory) you can ditch the data-compressed AAC audio and use the data-uncompressed wave audio instead. I suspect this may be unique to the Pocket 3. Furthermore, if you use the Mic 2 with audio backup in use, you get Mic 2 audio in AAC and internal mic audio in the wave file - BUT due to a presumed bug, the internal mic audio is collapsed to mono, which is a great pity as it means you can't do the obvious thing of having ambient sound from the internals in stereo, mixed in editing with the mono output from the Mic 2 to make your voice clearer against the ambience. Weirdly, if you connect any other USB-C-friendly wireless mic system instead of the Mic 2, you don't hit this bug. Lastly, if you have any USB-C audio device connected to the battery handle, when the battery handle goes dead you will lose the audio from the USB-C source connected to it. You've then got to quickly unplug the battery handle, disconnect the mic from it, reconnect that to the Pocket 3, and carry on shooting. And that can be awkward or even impossible during event recording - eg a wedding. "Sorry folks, we lost the audio from the vows when the battery handle went dead..." Sorry for long comment but I'm a great believer in using UA-cam as a shared knowledgebase. A great video which actually inspires me to dig out my Pockets 1 & 2 to use alongside my Pocket 3 when appropriate! (And I can't help editing in a suggestion that you check out our Aussie "brother" ScottyMakesStuff cases for the Pocket 3, which might appeal to you in the context of professional use - there is some evidence that the supplied DJI case can cause damage to the screen when you remove the camera, so...)
Thank you, great video as usual I admit I watched your pocket 1 video also brought me to the channel as other have said, although am a Sony user primarily...although I bought the pocket 3 a few months ago as an upgrade and for the purpose I need it is suitable, its genuinely better in low light and the easy integration with 'lightcut' is fab, a great tool to go hand in hand with my other cameras, fab for blogging for simplicity with the mic, but has its negatives also I admit. Keep the reviews coming, spot on!
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema Hello, we are from the ORDRO brand and invite you to promote our camera products. We recently have a new pocket camera m5, which is very suitable for your promotion. If you are interested, we will send you an m5 prototype.🥰
Something I haven't seen anybody address is whether you need the pocket 3 to get 32 bit float on the DJI mic 2. Can you use the transmitter as a 32 bit device by itself or to get audio from any other device? If not it's not a great a value as it's being made out to be.
The mic can be used independently as a standalone recorder without needing any cameras attached to it. Later this year DJI will officially release the Mic 2 which will allow you to connect it to other cameras. For now it only works with the Pocket 3 but as I said, you can use it on its own. I've been using it while filming with my A7IV then syncing the audio in post.
@@RyanKorea It also works with the Action 4, and with iPhones and Android phones (but probably depends on the phone version and what app you use). It records internally in 32 bit float but it doesn't transmit in that format - I suspect no wireless mic does due to the data rate required.
So besides all the cool features, I feel that we could also have talked about the price tag. They kinda doubled the price. I also really really don't get, why the camera can't flip for vertical, leaving you with a cropped image. It is almost the price of the mini 4, that you could also use in a kinda similar way + all the other features. I don't say it's bad or you shouldn't buy it, but rethink if it really is beneficial to you workflow and the way you want to experience a creative process.
I saw the Coles sign and thought - thats weird - it must be downunder - thanks jason - still questioning do i need one due playing on S ultra and wifes iphone 12 too much.

Well, I do have a birthday at the end of this month…….#55, coming……so I might as well buy the Pocket 3. Thanks for the great comparisons on all three Osmo Pockets, my man. 🍻👊🏾
First came to your channel due to the DJI pocket one. Im still using it .. latest model 3 sensor in particular is very tempting but im just not going to spend the money for the upgrade as i dont feel its so important that ill give uo the smaller size. This is not a main camera for me. The pocket one is still doing a great job for me. It's out of date compared to the 3 but still a good device
I have a pocket 3 and it's great, but it's still nowhere near the quality of something like an Arri or Red camera. It will be great for stuff like vloggers and home video though
youtubers are praising this but dji made a stupid decision imo for not rotating the camera to portrait mode, instagram, tiktok, snapchat? Somebody should tell dji that there are a lot of those users and they want slomo and low light too
Have you tried one? It has vertical shooting built-in that works great. No need to rotate the camera. I heard that physically rotating the camera would cause you to lose one of the gimbal axes
but don't buy dji pocket if you are still filming or vloging with your iphone. dji's image quality could be better but they don't care about their customers, there are many problems from dji pocket 1 but they still don't fix it, like the gimble will tilt when recording in slowmo or lose tracking. The community has been asking for a patch to able to manual focus and locked focus for years, but they still don't care. the pocket 2 is dead . The same goes for pocket 3, there won't be any firmware updates in the future.
Why you care so much? I have iPhones and all Pockets. And iPhone never replaces Pocket series. Maybe for stypid tiktoks but try recording over 1 hour continous event..
it was your osmo pocket 1 video that got me subscribed and eventually i bought it! still using it and dont see the need to change as it is still a very solid piece of equipment

Pocket 3 or stay with iphone 15 Pro for run and gun vlogging?
DJI Osmo Pocket 1 is so tiny, that I really can say that this is the only fair "Pocket" camera
Just ordered a refurbished Pocket 1 to see how it goes. I plan to Vlog my classic truck rebuild and needed something cheap and to the point. Thanks for the detailed review and comparison!
How is it?
"Sorry folks, we lost the audio from the vows when the battery handle went dead..."
Sorry for long comment but I'm a great believer in using UA-cam as a shared knowledgebase.
That’s awesome! Thanks for the support
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema Hello, we are from the ORDRO brand and invite you to promote our camera products.
We recently have a new pocket camera m5, which is very suitable for your promotion.
If you are interested, we will send you an m5 prototype.🥰
May i know what are your thoughts on the mic? How does the pocket 1 deal with wind and background noise? and is there wireless mic for 1? Thanks!!!
I'm just starting to get into travel vlogging. I can get the Pocket 2 for about $214. Do you think the Pocket 3 is $300 better?
The external mic can be used by itself, it has a record button and 8 gigs of internal storage then you can sync it in post
@@RyanKorea It also works with the Action 4, and with iPhones and Android phones (but probably depends on the phone version and what app you use). It records internally in 32 bit float but it doesn't transmit in that format - I suspect no wireless mic does due to the data rate required.
Yes you can use the device by itself. How I’ve been using it for a couple weeks
Got it, love it even more with the mist vnd filters from freewell🙏🏼🙏🏼
So besides all the cool features, I feel that we could also have talked about the price tag. They kinda doubled the price. I also really really don't get, why the camera can't flip for vertical, leaving you with a cropped image.
It is almost the price of the mini 4, that you could also use in a kinda similar way + all the other features.
I don't say it's bad or you shouldn't buy it, but rethink if it really is beneficial to you workflow and the way you want to experience a creative process.
Thank you for the video. After watching this, i change my mind and gonna have pocket 3 🎉
Good choice!
Finally great to see the next videos 😁
Thank you
how to audio monitoring via pocket 3?any jack output?
USB-C either natively or using a suitable adapter to 3.5mm
Through USB-C
Apart from the screen, you haven't shown me anything that worth upgrading from the one to the three. That's just my opinion though
still looking at getting the pocket 2 since i can get the more combo for $594 the pocket 3 combo is $1129 AUD what do you think of that price?
I price matched at OW and got it for 550. Rkn that’s a good deal will do 80% of what the pocket 3 will do for half the price. 1100 is just too much.
In my opinion the OP3 is worth it. Even just for the beginner pack
@@robbiefushu5724what’s OW?
I would have loved to see more 2 VS 3 vs 1 VS 3 in here but overall good video. Thank you!
I saw the Coles sign and thought - thats weird - it must be downunder - thanks jason - still questioning do i need one due playing on S ultra and wifes iphone 12 too much.
Haha yeah down under. Oh that’s interesting. I personally think image quality it would best those to phones but stuck at one focal length
I love my pocket 3 and the creator combo is a must!
Ofcourse you get that and not a Sony camera 😂
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema Only the highest quality for me lol
thank you for this review!
Yo Jason, your DJI Osmo Pocket trilogy breakdown had me like a kid in a candy store! 🍭📸 First, I caved and got the Dji Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo - the new rockstar in town. Now, thanks to your review, I'm grabbing a second-hand Dji Osmo Pocket 1 for that 4K camera sidekick! 🕵♂🤘 Who knew cameras could be this addictive? Cheers for being the enabler, Jason! 🌟 #PocketCraze #DjiOsmoFiesta
I will wait for Pocket 4 hoping the size will come back to Pocket 1 and quality will be improved cause 3 model still does not look ideal
You’ll be waiting a while since this was 3 years after the pocket 2
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema Only 3 years?? That’s soon🤣🤣
Pocket one still best 😂
Well, I do have a birthday at the end of this month…….#55, coming……so I might as well buy the Pocket 3.
Thanks for the great comparisons on all three Osmo Pockets, my man.
🍻👊🏾
Nice one
I using pocket one because I can use the self telescopic stick.
I'm sure pocket two can use the stick as well
But pocket three can not. Why ?
osmo pocket 1 FTW
Holds up so well
First came to your channel due to the DJI pocket one.
😅eheh the same i came with pocket 1, but now i'm using dslr items;)
Pocket 1 is still king!
Does having this on the market make you worry about job security as someone in the world of cinema?
Absolutely not. The pocket 3 does will in its class but cannot compete with my full frame cameras or my red Komodo x
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema you’re the man, Jason
I have a pocket 3 and it's great, but it's still nowhere near the quality of something like an Arri or Red camera. It will be great for stuff like vloggers and home video though
youtubers are praising this but dji made a stupid decision imo for not rotating the camera to portrait mode, instagram, tiktok, snapchat? Somebody should tell dji that there are a lot of those users and they want slomo and low light too
Have you tried one? It has vertical shooting built-in that works great. No need to rotate the camera. I heard that physically rotating the camera would cause you to lose one of the gimbal axes
You've definitely never used one because it can absolutely shoot natively in vertical.
I Like Pocket 1
but don't buy dji pocket if you are still filming or vloging with your iphone. dji's image quality could be better but they don't care about their customers, there are many problems from dji pocket 1 but they still don't fix it, like the gimble will tilt when recording in slowmo or lose tracking. The community has been asking for a patch to able to manual focus and locked focus for years, but they still don't care. the pocket 2 is dead . The same goes for pocket 3, there won't be any firmware updates in the future.
I just literally updated my DJI Pocket 3 to the latest firmware released in late January, making this statement invalid.
@@andrewcasesjrfacts
Why you care so much? I have iPhones and all Pockets. And iPhone never replaces Pocket series. Maybe for stypid tiktoks but try recording over 1 hour continous event..
I have no idea what ur talking about iPhone suck Apple sucks.
@@juhaaavalaakso455this is why i need one the iphone has minimum storage
1" sensor but still not have phase af
it was your osmo pocket 1 video that got me subscribed and eventually i bought it! still using it and dont see the need to change as it is still a very solid piece of equipment
That is so awesome to hear! Thanks for sticking around
Jesus loves you
Fantastic video - been waiting for a good comparison like this. I have the Pocket 1 (love it) and the Osmo Action 2 (love it too), so no real need for the Pocket 3. If I change my mind it’ll be AFTER that price comes down. 😳
